    Really good conversation. Good hosting as well - hosts with Rory on have a tendency to let him ramble, zigzag and dominate the conversation, but you kept him honest - nice work

    Really good Podcast with Rory - Thanks for that.
    One request for likes/subs is enough though (perhaps somewhere in the middle) after the third request I felt like not doing so. Four is OTT.
    Keep up the good work. 👍

    Hi Common Sense guy (didn't catch your name, sorry). Loved the interview. I'm a complete Rory nut and evangelist so I watch everything he appears on, so thanks for having him on again. And I really appreciated your retort that there actually aren't any things you 'can't talk about anymore', I think you had him cornered there a little bit! 😂😅

    Very interesting conversation with Rory who I just recently found out about which I am very happy about. I do have to add some friendly observations that it was a bit difficult to concentrate on with the continuous acknowledgements after nearly every sentence that Rory made, either by a yeah, hmmm, or a giggle.........might be better not to have those short acknowledgements every so often. Also no need to cut to you when you just say hmmm....or yeah....only cut to your take when you make a point or have a question as the interviewer. I love the casual format but maybe introducing a table between you and your guests might frame and concentrate the energy of the conversation. Once more these are respectful observations from a user and I am by no way an expert at all. So maybe what I have observed or felt has no real foundation. Congratulations on your podcast and this very interesting conversation. I look forward to your future podcast.

    Good interview, nice job matching Rory's energy and responding to his humour. Quite a few podcast hosts are a bit po-faced, or just too slow to keep up with the flow, and its a bit embarassing. Occasionally I think he's humouring some of those podcast hosts, but this seemed like a proper conversation.

    I really enjoy listening to Rory but I have to say one thing he spoke about here was just something I couldn't get on board with and I'm talking about his defense for Dominic Cummins during the covid lockdowns, somehow he made the case that we wouldn't question a skilled surgeon if they made that journey and no we wouldn't have but that would mean he is making the claim that Dominic has as much importance as someone who was that essential and I think its a rational case to make that simply no, he was not of that level of importance and when he did this at an unprecedented time when the country was told to stay indoors, cancel weddings, only have 10 people show up at a funeral (which happened at my Aunties funeral) family couldn't see new born babies, fathers had to miss hospital appointments during pregnancy and anti-natal classes were cancelled, mental health programs were cancelled, suicide rates and domestic abuse skyrocketed then its a very clear answer from... no, Domonic was not remotely fucking important enough to justify seeing his family when the rest of the country couldn't see theres and everyone had an absolute right to feel bitter and angry with how the entire lockdown period was handled. Politicians need some cheese and wine for morale? Cry me a fucking river. I'm from the position that rules are for everyone and if they aren't then we are in a corrupt society.

      why do so many people have the mic in the shot, in interviews?
      i do not get it.
      a good mic does not need to be in front of the speaker's mouth.
      are they just trying to show how big their mic is?

    You really don't need to put the "please subscribe" advert interruption so often, like every 15 minutes, and I think it's the exact same every time. And you do it in the middle of a sentence. It's so disruptive and takes you out of the conversation. It's unnecessary and I don't think it is helpful. Once during the podcast and then perhaps at the end, as a reminder, even if it's the same clip used both times, would be enough. And the one in the middle could be better placed than in the middle of a sentence.

    If we're going to refuse or feel bad about "only" improving the lives of 30, 40, 50% of the population by some innovation (eg. remote working) because the others don't get the benefits, we'll never do anything.

      1:40:37 if cummings had said "while I admit that I did it, I did it for a good reason, however in acknowledgement that other people may have been fined for doing the same as me, I will pay the £2k fine." So many other people got fined and it was the double standard that really annoyed people. As a political strategist he should have known this and the fact that he didn't also shows that he was pretty rubbish at his job too.

    I watch a lot of Rory and I like him. I had no intention of subscribing, as this seems like a fairly typical sycophantic chat, but then you politely and quite deftly pushed back on the 'we are not allowed to speak about immigration' trope and I was really impressed. Just to confirm I'm 40 yrs old and I remember when Farage & UKIP came on the scene to parasitize our politics as a teenager, and the topic has never fallen off the agenda since. However, migration remains essential & broadly beneficial, which is why we should probably ask if it is time to stop discussing it. Or at the very least start saying something interesting about it. For instance 'what you are not allowed to say' is that: a child born in Uganda is not responcible for where they were born & has just much right to live in the UK as my kids, if they want to.

    • @cobbler9113
      @cobbler9113 5 месяцев назад +10

      I think the issues surrounding immigration at the moment that alarm people are the sheer numbers (over 500k net per year the last couple of years) and our country’s (in)ability to cope with that. I believe it was the ONS who basically said that to keep house prices where they’re at now, we would to build 382,000 homes a year, every year to accommodate that. This is before we get into infrastructure and expansion of public services. We just do not have the capacity to do that unless you want to rebuild Victorian style slums or turn this green and pleasant land into a giant Mumbai. Neither will be very popular to put it mildly. By all means, let’s have migration, but let’s be much stricter and more sensible about who comes in.

    • @julianchase95
      @julianchase95 4 месяца назад +3

      Your last sentence doesn’t add up. Giving effectively everybody “the right” to live in the UK doesn’t work, especially as a huge proportion of immigrants are net recipients of UK largesse, rather than contributors.
