Hello and welcome to my Ted Talk XD
    TL;DW: 1:39:29
I thought I'd make a little commentary here just to get it off my chest, I don't wanna reply this ad nauseum. I definitely think this could've been a LOT shorter, more organized and concise, and above all newcomer friendly like I pride all my other videos. I'm afraid this is by far the most unwieldy video I'll ever put out, and quite likely the most unwieldy anitube video of the year lol
That being said I stand by my creative decisions in making this close to two hours and being as thorough as I could muster. I really wanted to do this out of the novelty, I feel only I was both qualified and crazy enough to do something like this, and I badly wanted it to exist, which IS in spirit to all of my videos. If you watched all of this I love you so much/I'm genuinely surprised, especially if you did it in one sitting.
    We stan.
    Enjoy!

I would absolutely love to see you talk about your favourite aspects and scenes in Ashita no Joe. I feel like it's a pretty fringe audience, as AnJ isn't necessarily the most popular or sought after animes despite its immense influence and reference in modern anime, and I can understand the reluctance to put the effort into it. However, I think there is a need for more AnJ content on youtube as I havent found much on it anywhere. Just my 2 cents.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the fact that, as characters, JD and Nanbu serve as reversals to the roles Joe and Danpei played in Ashita no Joe. In Megalobox, it's JD who is interested in and has a passion for boxing and Nanbu isn't really interested in real boxing, whereas in Ashita no Joe, Joe didn't care about boxing at all at first and was persuaded to do it by a very passionate Danpei. This is symbolized by the fact that Nanbu's eye-patch is on the opposite eye than that of Danpei's. Nanbu and Danpei are literally looking at the world through different eyes.

Nanbu actually did care about boxing, before that veteran who he trained he always showed interested.
I would say what happened is that different of danpai, that even after something similar happened, he still had a bit of hope he could find a fighter, but was blind due to his alchool problem, thats why we see him totally drop that and focus at making a better future for both him and Joe.
Meanwhile Nanbu just gave up completely and only used it to get money probably due to depression and to get something to eat, and Joe re-ignited on him the love for boxing, even sacrifing his only eye, and funny enough the eye that had the negative view of the world and the sport that follows your theory, and he doesnt even need eyes to "watch" the match

His transformation from complete asshole to a lovable jackass is really something! I didn't think the writers would be able to make me care about Joe, let alone love him and root for him, but they did! Joe's character growth and development was soooooooo good! They even show his growth in many subtle ways that build up over time, and not just through major moments alone. Joe Yabuki is one of my favorite protagonists of all time ❤

The comparrison I think calms realy into Nomad vs the end of Ashita no Joe. Where as the original Joe burnt up. Nomad/Joe was saved by the towel rather than fighting to the death. It was so he could continue life instead of fighting till the end.

I dont think attachments to some time period or events that really happened make things obsolete ( attachments to some narratives popular at the time or trends can be, but i dont think that attachments to things that are historically happened can make work obsolete ), for me, the fact that Joe takes time in this time period made that show a lot more interesting, cause its interesting to see how stuff worked at that time, at least for me. A lot of classic literature attached to some specific time period, and that doesnt makes them inherently obsolete. At least thats how i see things.
And i really like kids in AnJ, at least this far, im at the episode 12 of the 2nd season right now. Never thought of them as usseless or annoying, but maybe for some people they are, i can understand that.
    You made an amazing video.

As a matter of fact, the director of the show talked about that last scene hypothesizing he doesn't physically die in that scene, although it's implied. He says he dies as a boxer, like he'll never box again, and considering that WAS his life that signals the end of the story :)

I noticed the similarities in their styles. Joe, Junk Dog is similar to Michiko Malandro. I know this is dedicated to ashita no joe, but I just can't help but see the similarities in the characters with Joe.

Never seen Joe, but I am sure it's not another celebration of Ashita no Joe, and instead, it's own thing, working towards the future of itself, which is the message that I got watching your video until the end, also, Nomad made me cry a river at the end of the story of the hummingbird, or el conto del colibri

I have seen Megalobox coming off of Hajime no ippo as both my first sports and boxing anime in one. I was enthralled. even more so when the second season came out. Nomad was great but i still don't think I understand it so far, as do I not think i will right now. Megalobox meant a lot to me and after coming across this channel, specifically the magnificant "What inspired gurren lagann" I became invested. I am currently amidst my first watch of Tomorrow's Joe. I am highly enjoying the series so far. The rough charakter that breaks every trend modern anime has put on its protagonist aswell as the limited animation the 70s (i am assuming its a 70's show. I don't get cought up on detail a lot) give the show so much charm and raw charakter that its hard to imagine a world where anime wasn't shook to its core by joes influence. (side rant as an aspiring animator: I love old anime because oftentimes animation is reused in smart ways and when its not or scenes are particularly smooth or detailed it notes what was deemed "important" to the show. Seeing the process behind the product so clearly is a rare sight these days and I am in love with how well shows were able to look back in the day with a fraction of the manpower and budget todays shows get.)
There is no point to this post other than chronologing my journey to find joe and thank you for making content that inspires people to venture to new frontiers of the media they love.

the scene of aragaki putting it down and wailing in agony is some peak voice acting till this day. Thats not a sound i ever want to hear another man make. Id be horrified to even ask

Why do you hate that the main wins sure sometimes you lose and don’t get what you want in the end but I felt like Joe deserved it through everything they went through I just sometimes don’t understand the point why people want to the main to lose at the end

Do Hajime references Ashita. Sendo was KO'ed on the stool against Ippo in the first fight. In their fights they always do cross-counters

If you watch Ashita no joe. You'll notice how much Yabuki's voice matches with Junk Dog's. Same thing with Danpei to Nanbu😉

Fun fact the name Yuri is a reference to a character named Yuri in episode 69 of Ashita No Joe 1.

    • @CaribouCoon
      @CaribouCoon  6 лет назад +4

lmao of COURSE it was in ep 69, I didn't go looking into 52-79 for references cause I was worried that'd be stretching it (that's how I almost missed Fujimaki having the same scar as Goromaki), but I'll look, maybe there's some characterization parallels too! Thanks! :D
