Its crazy how people of his time when they first heard it, hated it and walked out of his performance and called him deranged. Like apparently this came out way before its time and didn't gain its deserved recognition until later.

It's also possible that the performers weren't up to it. He was deaf, so he might not have known how badly they were playing it. I'm not saying that the music itself might have been beyond the listeners, too --- just that modern performers understand it a lot better, having grown up hearing it (and, a couple of hundred years of quartets teaching each other how to interpret it).

Haven't listened to this quartet with such rapt attention since I was a student first learning the quartets. Your graphics exhibit the 2, 3, 4 and 5 note motifs brilliantly and the finale is breathtaking.

I was about to make a similar comment. So many movements, so many themes within the movements, it's a lot of music and the differences in the graphical styles really help you keep track of it all.

Pretty interesting that after 5:20 the voices become scattered and arpeggiated, and the only time they are not is when it states the main subject

Depending on how you slice it, it might even be more than seven. Even within the seven movements, there are sections which could be considered movements on their own. It's an unusual quartet in many respects. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_Quartet_No._14_(Beethoven)

Brilliant! Great for people who have touble following the normal musical score. Have you ever considered doing this with Beethoven’s Hammerklavier Piano Sonata?

Reading music involves essentially the same thing. A score is like a Cartesian diagram of frequency vs. time.

I hope that someday you will decide to do Rachmaninoff's 3rd piano concerto, mvmt 3. I know he is not your style and it might be a nightmare to put together but it's a terrific piece. Also, I love what you did with Grieg's piano concerto.

I sometimes do something like that (or include an entire grand staff). Additional lines are a tradeoff between information (pro) and clutter (con), and I usually go for "less is more."

It depends how you measure it. This is the second version, which built upon the work I did for the first version, which built upon work I did for other videos. So, depending on what you count, it took somewhere between a week and a few months.
