    Thanks for a great video. I am a hunter who wants the best accuracy I can get out of a gun, but I am a non technical/non engineering kind of guy and have never previously understood what it means to blueprint an action and how it makes a gun shoot better and with consistency.
    I will now happily spend money on this for my rifles and see the expenditure as a very worthwhile investment.
    Thanks again and best wishes from Australia

    Very informative information on how to get a better shooting rifle. I like the way you explained that process to the public. We are very lucky to have good gunsmiths like you to get good information from. Thanks

    This is pretty eye-opening, and understandable logic. In my mind I think, so how does a "normal" pocket book get a good rifle. Lugs and glass bedding and expensive scope and new trigger, well - they are somewhat cosmetic compared to getting the action to align with the barrel. Then snugging up the bolt. Thanks for the education.

    In my 25 years of experience I can honestly say that properly blueprinted Remington action will shoot just as good as any custom action.

    Does the Savage floating bolt head help mitigate an out of concentric action?

    Enjoyed your information but will agree the radio was a little distracting for me as well. Maybe it’s just my age??

    I have serious doubts about blueprinting an action. I say forget it and get a quality barrel. I’ve had 2 action tried that shot better but they received new barrels at the same time. The 3rd rem 700 had only a new barrel put on. It shot just as good as the tried actions.

    If snipers can tag people from mind boggling distances without action blueprinting on old actions or semi auto m14 EBRs, is it really that necessary, or are you selling the emperor some new clothes?

      Bryan Hascall USMC snipers have never touched an out of the box factory rifle.

    At 500 yards to 1000 yards blue print vs non blueprint how much is accuracy increased ?

    When you cut metal away from the bolt how does that not change the head space? And make everything lose in the action

    • @BlueMountainPrecision
      @BlueMountainPrecision  6 лет назад +2

      @ricky white You most often need to rebarrel at the same time. Also when you recut lugs and face of the bolt it equals out to minor changes in head space. But blueprinting is done for accuracy and a new barrel is installed and then headspace is reset. I will not put the time into blueprinting a action with factory barrels. Concentricty is key and factory barrels lack that.

      Blue Mountain Precision I couldn't see wasting time blueprinting a factory rifle be of that I guess it makes more sense if you rebarrel

      darthcollosus I will be upgrading to a new lathe very soon. It builds accurate rifles but it's too slow for a full-time shop.

    Nice discussion, no actual machining.

  • @samalverio3157

    If you indicate your action by using that mandrel then you are doing it wrong.you have to indicate off the threads by making a precision mandrel that fits the threads tight..and butts up against the locking lugs..then indicate the O.D.of mandrel front and back and also length wise.after that then you can cut the face and internal lugs..forget about the rest.remember the treads are the master point..everything has to come off the threads...bolts are made sloppy.as you know. Some gunsmiths end up rechasing the threads and making things more complex...that's a NO NO.leave threads alone and work off the threads in the action

    • @BlueMountainPrecision
      @BlueMountainPrecision  4 года назад +3

      Sam if this is how you think you machine actions true then you should probably never touch any action if you want top accuracy. Maybe you can prove all the other top gunsmiths in the country wrong too. Lol.. The raceway is the center of how all true actions are made and machined for top accuracy. Maybe this is why custom actions all start with a raceway to work from?? Sometimes it pays to do research to gain real world knowledge before try to educate others.
