I was on a flight from Amsterdam to Calgary and found a pair in my seat. I spent 3 hours calling the airline and apple support to try and return them to their rightful owner as they are not cheap. No one could help me. Apple couldn’t return to the owner for security reasons, and the airline wouldn’t disclose who last sat in the seat for the same reason. They also advised against handing then in at lost and found because they likely would get “collected” by anyone as the Airline would take no responsibility in trying to prove who owned them (likely for liability reasons). So I have a pair of lost AirPods. It pains me to think that someone out there knows where they are and possibly thinks I’ve stolen them. Wish I could have returned them.

Not take them. But now I think I know who’s got them and I’ll get them back.

No it can, if you had AirPods Pro or newer you can put them on lost mode to track them once someone connects to them, but it has to be before they reset them
