I got my hearing aids from the VA audiologist. It’s amazing how much you were missing before using them. For example I can’t hear that my blinker is on without them.
I think this is great. As someone who has used hearing aids for a long time that were molded for my ear and calibrated using real ear measurement by an audiologist, I am sure I wouldn't find these sounding all that great, but if my hearing aids aren't with me (which has happened) I love the fact that this option now exist.
I've been using the Airpods Pro2 hearing aid function for a few weeks now, and they are a life changer. Way, way better than the $500 OTC hearing aids I was using. My battery ran low while watching TV a few nights ago. Put them back in the case for about 10 minutes and got an additional two plus hours usage. These things are great.
I just bought the airpod pro 2 as well, but I'm having trouble setting up the audio test that's described in this video. They're not working as well for me like you. Can you please tell me how you did this? I have iphone14. Thank you
@@lori8733 A bit late, but what we discovered was that when my wife tried to use her iPhone SE the "hearing" test set up did not appear. When we used my iPhone 11, there it was! Apparently some devices do not show certain features (both were OS 18) Try using another device (phone or iPad) and perhaps it will show up. Worth the effort as the result was great - better than her VERY expensive brand name hearing aids.
Thanks for the break down of the updated software!!! I was born mostly deaf in my right ear. But I have a very hard time hearing when there is background noise, like at work or a restaurant. I've always been told that a hearing aid wouldn't help my right ear, but that I could wear bilateral and one would be more to pick up sound and transmit to my "good ear". I'm in my 40's, and only in the last few years realized how much this hearing loss has affected me! (since I was able to hear in one ear, I developed normal speech and hit all the mile posts growing up, so everybody just assumed I was ok. I have been debating trying out some Apple Air pods, and this was very helpful!
I’m really glad somebody made a video about this feature because my dad has hearing loss now and my mom and I were thinking about getting these for him.
Great video! For me Airpods 2 as a hearing aid is a godsend in one specific area. I've used prescription hearing aids for almost ten years and have been through two pairs of Oticon hearing aids at $5000/pair. I also wear prescription glasses. Until now I could only use over-the-ear headphones if I wanted media to sound good (hearing aids + headphones = reasonably normal sound). Unfortunately, "real estate" above and behind my ears is limited with hearing aids and glasses, so headphones (like Airpods Max) are uncomfortable with the pressure they exert on my ears. I can now swap out my hearing aids for Airpods 2, which are "tuned" to compensate for my hearing deficit both in transparency mode and with media, and they are comfortable. The rest of the time I still prefer my hearing aids which provide more balanced sound.
I've got a $3000 set of Eargo. These AirPods are WAY better than the Eargo. I could buy 12 sets of these for that price. Sure wish they'd sell them in flesh colors or at least black. They are like "hey!!! I've got earbuds in". People will ultimately look at them and think I'm checked out in music land. Fortunately I have long hair so it covers them mostly. That annoys me. But whatever. I can hear!! 😊
Can’t wait to get the AirPods Pro 2 and take this test. I’m worried I might have some hearing loss. I worked in the engine room of ships during the first two years of my career, and that might have caused some damage over the years. Plus, I've always worn earphones, whether wired or wireless. I may have my criticisms of Apple on many things, but they got this one right. Well done, Apple!
We meet again sir 😁 I've been wanting to know how this works. I lost hearing in one ear. My remaining ear was my bad ear. So this could be a game changer for me.
For my moderate hearing loss and tinnitus I have a good set of hearing aids tuned for speech and music. But, when I travel, I cannot use headphones with hearing aids. They feedback. Some have bluetooth, but the sound is OK. I am using the AirPods Pro 2 for music enjoyment with noise cancellation. The app makes sure that the specific frequencies I need are boosted. Great advancement for hearing health. Happy to see it being addressed post FDA changes.
I have a referral to get into the audiologist, still waiting though. With that said, working in customer service, even in daily casual conversation, I've found simply having my AirPods Pro 2s in transparency mode has allowed me to hear a bit clearer than unassisted. Speech is definitely distinct.
This is amazing. I have hearing loss and need to get hearing aids but the ones I tried were terrible and far out of my price range. This might be the solution.
Thank you for your honest opinion. I have someone who doesn't want to admit to hearing loss in my family and I am going to ease these in as a christmas gift....maybe they will have an awakening...
Im that guy that has resisted getting hearing aids because of that self imposed stigma. These pods however work amazingly as hearing aids, and I look like every other hip dude listening to tunes throughout their day, instead of looking like a deaf old fart :) I wish they had a tone generator feature that would negate my tinnitus, but thats a lot to ask perhaps !
I would love to have this availabe to me in Canada, but our gatekeepers have not approved the feature apparently. If they do eventually get approval, I would consider getting a second pair if charging was an issue. I am sure the #3 version will be coming along.
Sorry does this new update work on AirPods Pro gen 1 as well? You keep just saying, and the title, “AirPods pro”. Please change the title appropriately if pro gen 1 doesn’t work.
Thank you, sir! I’ve appreciated your viewpoints for a few years now, and I’m glad you haven’t abandoned the RUclips platform. This video has convinced me to give my AirPods a serious go as hearing aids. I set them up last night, and was surprised at the change in music reproduction. Today I’ll try them without music; I’ll likely be glad I did. (Call me a snob, but actual hearing aids always had a stigma associated with them. AirPods Pro, on the other hand, are a subtle status symbol.) Have a good day, Jason, and thanks again!
I am trying at set from Best Buy’s $189.00 I watched a TV show last night and they do help. For me just using them while using my iPad while my wife is watching TV is fantastic. Still learning on them but great for day 2.
Jason, really appreciate this review of the APP2 from someone who can actually benefit from them, you are the first I've seen so thank you! As someone who has been diagnosed with mild-moderate hearing loss I was really excited for this feature and after having used it for a few days my impression is, mixed bag but generally positive. On the plus side, it does amplify the sounds in my world so I can in fact hear my wife better and I can hear the TV better (and because of that I can keep the TV volume lower which makes her happier...happy wife happy life). On the down side it amplifies everything else, so if the dogs are chomping on bones, I hear that more. I actually find that I hear myself in my head more so the oclusion effect seems to be worse for me. If you're outside in the wind, forget about it. And sharp sounds like metal on metal, forks hitting plates, etc. kind of hurt my head. For me it's best after dinner if we're just sitting down to watch TV. Overall I think it's a positive life improvement so I say bravo to Apple for coming out with this feature!
@@thejasontlewis I've been playing around with that slider and you're right with the ambient noise, but then it impacts how well I can hear the TV at level that doesn't annoy my wife. We'll see how they refine this over time. I'm encouraged and I think it's a fantastic start.
Excellent review. I really appreciate it. Just this morning, a Best Buy employee told me her mother bought AirPods Pro 2 for hearing loss and very much likes them. I am considering buying them for my moderate hearing loss especially after your detailed review. Thank you so much!
My problem is hearing people speaking to me in a crowded area, but I cannot for the life of me get the conversation boost to work, (the feature that isolates peoples voices when you look at them, just clarifying because there are several voice features that sound similar). It looks like it’s set up properly but everyone raves about how amazing it is, and it doesn’t seem to do anything for me.
Thanks for this great, honest broadcast. I just ordered Airpods Pro. I do wear Resound hearing aids at times, but they are broken and won't be fixed for a couple weeks. They also cost $7,000. The battery also does not last a full day... so sometimes I need a stop-gap solution. This seems perfect. Thank you, and thanks Apple.
If you are in a restaurant at a table with many people talking the same time, how does it know to boost the conversation of the one person you are listening too. It seems it would still be jumbled. Also will it work with my android phone or do I have to switch to the Apple ecosystem?
There’s some DSP magic happening in there. It sounds like it uses the noise cancelling function to dampen certain frequencies and isolate the frequencies most prevalent in speech. Unfortunately, you do have to on iOS to take advantage of the more advanced AirPods features.
Thank you for your take on these. You are the first I've heard talk about the occlusion effect. That was one of the biggest frustrations I had with hearing aids. That and the 'stigmatism' of wearing hearing aids. Who doesn't wear earpods now?? I spent $1500 on hearing aids that had the app with bluetooth controls. They were nice, but I just wasn't comfortable with them. (They really were painful to wear also.) Anyway, after watching your video, I'm fixing to make the purchase!
Excited to get the 18.1 next week! I find the current set up inconsistent, for example, "Custom Transparency Mode" in settings, which enables the hearing-aid function, randomly turns off. Very frustrating. In any case, if this is corrected in 18.1 and the sound quality improves, that's a definite win-win! Thanks for the report!
I was just diagnosed this summer and I think we have similar hearing loss judging by what you're saying. The worst thing about hearing aids to me is missing out on the full experience of music through headphones. My big over-the-ear headphones sound muffled and playing music through my hearing aids is like listening to an old radio. I miss bass, basically. Your video is making me wonder if it might be worth getting some Airpods Pros not truly for the hearing aid experience but for the adaptation that setting makes for listening to music.
Another big advantage I've found for AirPods Pro over my prescription hearing-aid is how easy it is to put them in and take them out, which I often need to do when I'm using other headphones for monitoring sound. If you choose the correct size tip they slip in easily, fit snugly and stay in your ears without worry or effort. In loud situations the occlusion plus the active noise canceling accomplishes much more than my $6000 Widex hearing aids ever can.
just a note: my audiologist advised against wearing hearing protection like the musicians earplugs, airpods etc. for longer periods (for people with no severe hearing issues). it will make your brain and ears got used to these gadgets, then all noise/music/etc will be more damaging when you are not wearing them. Can cause or make Tinnitus worse then it was.. Thanks for sharing your experience. I was looking for such solution as i tested my JBL earpods and they were ok-ish, but they lack the features i was after. Then i heard about the Airpods Pro 2.
Hi Jason Thank You for your review. I also noticed makes people speech much clearer! The occlusion effect for me actually is a little greater, but I’ll play with the settings. I have nerve deafness in my left ear. These are amazing thank you Apple. If you ever need older Mac stuff let me know Im cleaning out my basement.
I keep hearing comments that because of the 6-ish hour battery life, these aren't for people that need them all day. But why not just buy another pair?
Thanks for sharing, Jason! My entire life has been wearing hearing aids, as my hearing issue was congenital. Been really curious about the iOS 18 feature, because I tend to wear my AirPods Pro when I go for power walks and for exercise out of my home. I'd love to try the feature out so that I can use them for, say, walking around, and try out convos with mepoel with them on. It's a pain when I can't hear someone even with the AirPods on, then have to remove them and put my hearing aids on, which is mostly not possible since I leave them at home during my power walks and exercises. Also, since my hearing loss is moderate to severe, not yet sure how well the feature will work, but worth a try. Really appreciate the video. Also, might be worth checking out Costco for hearing aids...pro tip!
As you are aware from Apple‘s description of its hearing aid feature in AirPods Pro 2, it is intended for those with mild to medium hearing loss, the kind associated with age, as in losing the ability due to hear the higher pitched sounds, which if you’re in conversation with women can make you miss a lot of words. That description is almost exactly what I am experiencing in my battle with hearing loss. What intrigued me about Apple‘s approach is how they first test your hearing to determine the frequencies that you are having problems with. Then, when you activate the hearing feature on the AirPods, the results of your hearing test cause your AirPods to boost the frequencies that you have trouble with. To me anyway, the simplicity of this approach represents a leap of innovation that challenges a very comfortable industry accustomed to justifying its stratospheric prices by invoking the mystical expertise of the “audiologist.” I’ve had my hearing tested by an audiologist and believe me, this is not rocket science! These AirPods have made a significant difference in my being able to understand what people are saying. To me, the proof of the pudding is in the tasting. These things work for me, and that fact is far more significant than the hocus pocus arguments an industry that sees its meal ticket in jeopardy. I understand your hearing loss is congenital and more serious than mine. It seems the possibility of a significantly improved hearing aid is more likely to come from Apple than from an industry that relies on your hearing loss for its income. Anyway, best of luck!
Just an FYI - the first pair we bought had a glitch which rendered the hearing aid function useless. They would simply "cut out" at random. Returned them and bought another pair which works beautifully. The resulting sound is clearly superior the the multiple VERY expensive brand name hearing aids my wife has used for years.
I have hearing loss and severe Tinitus. I have tried the Audien Pro over the coiunter hearing aids, and wasn't thrilled. They sounded unnatural, and actually out of sync with each other. I recently got a pair of Airpods Pro 2, and was considering giving their hearing aid capabilities a try. Your video definitely pushed me in that direction. I'll do the hearing test tonight when the house is really quiet, and then give it a try. Thanks!
I have tenitus as well and I’ve noticed that just having them turned on without ANC or any other settings, takes away the ringing. Have you experienced that? I noticed it years ago with my Bose anc headphones.
I just saw your video today - I have an appointment at Costco next week to get new hearing aids (I have a 3 year old pair from them) and while mine will be fully covered by insurance, I don't like the feel of them in my ears and they are really not great at connecting with my phone and laptop. So I'm less than enthused about getting a new pair. Having seen your review, and finding that they are $179 at BJ's right now, I just sent my husband out to get them. I'll pass on my older AirPods that don't have this feature to my daughter, since her pair is getting crackly. I'll probably still get hearing aids at Costco, but I wanted to try these for a week to see what I think and I'm hoping that they'll work well for me. I know for sure that AirPods are comfortable for me to wear, and my hearing aids get annoying by the end of the day for sure. Thanks!
Thanks for the discussion about the improvements from using the accessibility feature. One thing on charging is that you can take one bud out at a time to charge. It add a decent amount of charge quickly.
This is a good point. When I’m listening to podcasts I sometimes do this so I can charge but also hear things like my wife. Kinda important to hear her for my physical health and safety. Haha jk honey if you see this.
Got it today 11/19/2024 and I’m very happy about it! Took a test and it really brought back my deficiencies in hi mid frequencies. I’m very happy with results. I could not believe until I try it. ❤❤❤
I’ve been using the transparency mode for the past year or so. I’ve been suffering from moderate hearing loss and these have worked much better than my hearing aids, by far the best money I’ve ever spent in a product in my life. Curious to see how the new update will work!
Well I rushed to comment that. After iOS 18.1 this got completely ruined by Apple - they disabled this feature for all countries where the Hearing Aid functionality is not supported yet. Huge step back and downgrade and a very valid reason for people to not buy airpods pro, in case they were thinking to buy it as hearing aids. If you live in a country where the Hearing Aids functionality is not supported yet and you have updated your iOS to 18.1, you WON’T be able to use custom transparency mode based on your audiogram anymore and the airpods won’t work as hearing aids, like they did before!
I have moderate hearing loss and bought the Miracle Ear product at around 5K. Fortunately ins paid for it. I hear conversation MUCH better with them, BUT for music or even TV audio, it’s not an enjoyable experience. Just bought Air Pods Pro, maybe a month ago, but haven’t had time to do much with them. Looking forward to testing their hearing aid function. Thanks so much for your review of them👍
For the record, Several companies have had hearing aid level support in their ear buds LONG before Apple. Nuheara's IQBoosts were out almost ten years ago. What changed was that the FDA allowed for explicit OTA labelling of these as 'hearing aids' and Apple just jumped on the bandwagon. Apple's great at retrovation (claiming to have been innovative by 'inventing' something that already existed).
Love your review and went out and bought a pair. Works well but getting tinny sounds, have you experienced this at all? Maybe I have a defective pair? Thank You 🙏💕
Had a son 2½m ago, he has mild hearing loss from birth. So been looking up how it will affect hes life quality. Very nice that earbuds can function as hearing aid. Also hoping on that gene therapy that restored hearing in 25 kids in its first trial this year. Regrew those tiny hairs in the inner ear. Trying to figure out how this mild hearing loss will affect my sons life, very complex thing to understand as i take all those small sounds for granted!
I bought these today (12/2/24) at Target online for $149!!! I think it’s the last day for the sale. On sale for $169 and they have a coupon for $20 off for purchases $120 and over. Crazy deal I couldn’t pass up. Also- I want these for killer sound and also noise cancellation due to being sensory sensitive. I also have some hearing loss. It’s wild that these can work as hearing aids as well as to cancel noise. I imagine you can’t be listening to something while also enhancing your hearing??? My biggest concern is that they may be uncomfortable but I’m thrilled they have a variety of sizes of earbud caps. I use xs with my loops. I’m also concerned about the battery life being only 6 hours. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long to charge. The hardest part would be if I’m out of the house for hours with no place to charge. That’s hardly ever the case with me being disabled so probably not a huge issue. Thanks for this great video!
As someone who has hearing aids, I found your review informative. FYI, you’ll find having more than one set of hearing aids very beneficial. Battery life for rechargeable HA’s is only 12 to 14 hours. That will diminish over the years to the 10 hours +or- range. I’ve taken to even wearing a pair as I sleep. This seems to reduce my daytime tinnitus. Good luck on your journey.
I can’t use it where I live. I’m pretty sure if they just called the feature differently in regions where they don’t have approval yet, they could still offer it.
It was available for years under ‘custom transparency mode’, you were able to upload an audiogram and tailor your transparency mode settings and volume so that it amplified the frequencies that you needed to boost. Apple disabled this functionality with iOS 18.
@@thanospappas3816 I know. That’s why I’m saying I’m pretty sure they could enable the feature everywhere if they named it accordingly. And if not, at least don’t cripple the audiograms.
I lost my dog a few years ago, but I put Air Tags on him. We found him immediately, cleat across town! I hope Apple can help you find your hearing too.
So very useful. Great review. I started using the Jabra OTC hearing aids 1.5 years ago, and it's been a fantastic change in my life. But they absolutely suck for music and podcasts and such. You have sold me on the Airpods... at least Gen 3 Pro when they're released next year. Thanks so much.
As someone that has moderate to severe hearing loss this is a step in the right direction. I wear an actual hearing aid in one ear and go without in the other just because it seems to balance out the background noise for my personal preference. For context last time I had a hearing test I had about 50% left in one ear and 75% in my good ear. Although that was years ago now.
Great video. I'd love to know why this feature is not available in the UK. I bought them thinking I could use as a hearing aid and it was an expensive mistake.
It may be regulatory. I'm not sure. There was a backdoor way to set them up as hearing aids before. I'm ot sure if that's tstill the case. You did it through the Accessabilty section of the phone.
great video! happy that its helping you ! i hope that android google buds pro comes up with something similar! or perhaps its also possible? having earing loss and tinnitus myself.
Once you have your phone off, does the hearing aid part still work? I have the Airpod Pro 2 but I am a Samsung phone user. Is there a way to avail of the hearing aid piece? I do have access to someone with an iPhone to get the firmware upgrade, but I would not be able to stay connected to their phone.
Excellent and honest overview Sir. Thank you so much. I too have less than normal hearing brought about by too many years of working in loud environments. I have mild/moderate hearing issues. About 5 years ago I went to an Audiologist and ended up spending $6,000 on one of the "best" hearing aids available at the time. Sigh, disappointing! They just never really did my hearing any good over time no matter how often I took them back for adjustments. Next I tried a few of the otc hearing products. Found a couple of OK ones and one good otc set that rivaled my original Audiologist ones. Time with those has now passed and I'm still looking for something better. Yes, I am picky about my hearing and really want it improved to a point so that I can comfortably converse with friends in a crowded environment or with the family at home without saying "huh?" way too often. I have ordered and am awaiting my new set of Air Pods Pro 2 to arrive. From your site and others I have watched I am hoping for a good all around "fit" for my needs. Best wishes to all the other "searchers" out there from the Left Coast of the US.
Even different brand hearing aids from audiologists can give you a different experience. My husband has 2 pairs that cost thousands and blue tooth to his phone. He will switch them out depending on what he is doing.
I've just bought a pair due to this 'Excellente' review - I have tenitus and I'm interested to see how these can help me! Totally agree w/ the comment about Apple products - they always seem to have something in the back-pocket that no one else has thought of! This helps swallow the frustration with day to day workarounds for their products.
Thank you for your honest review. I am currently waiting for the AirPods Pro 2 to be delivered. My gf never bought or wore hearing aids because she is anxious about how it looks on her. The AirPods will make her feel more confident.
I have been wearing hearing aids ($7800) for 5 years and will need to replace them soon. It took me about two months before my brain tuned out all the ambient noise I was unable to hear before. ( like people who live next to an airport no longer pay attention to planes flying overhead) I can hear sound I just can’t make out certain words people say. I will probably give this a try since I need a better option when watching video or movies. The audio quality of my hearing aids is just so so.
Thank you for this Video. I’m on the fence and this helped me a lot. I see your musician so am I. I play nightly in bars and lounges for 40 years. Do you think this would help me on stage? I’m a singer, a trained-singer and I blow out my voice cause I can’t really hear it although I have a powerful monitor in my face Which probably adds to my hearing loss. Could I get away with just wearing one? do you perform with these in your ears or while you’re recording? The last time I had a hearing test was five years ago and I believe it was pretty bad 60 DB loss at 4K and pretty much both ears. I’m not sure what that’s considered probably severe. Please let me know what you think. Thank you again.
After doing an audio test with your iPhone, why doesn't it simply give you the option to apply those results by adjusting the settings accordingly, and then you can make any further adjustments you feel it needs?
Question: If you want to use them as hearing aids do you need to have the iPhone or iPad on all the time? I understand you need one of them to set up the hearing aid. I do not have and I phone but do have an iPad. Can I set it up then be out and about without my iPad?
No, they will work after setup without the iPhone. It is nice to have then connected because they still work as bluetooth headphones while acting as hearing aids.
I am excited about trying this. The downside for me are the silicone tips. I’ve been searching for ages to find something aftermarket that doesn’t irritate my outer ear canal. Any ideas?
They DID NOT have hearing aid function, they were PSA Personal Sound Amplifiers. NOT hearing aids. The s.w. is currently scheduled for release 28 Oct '24.
@@scottOlsonsoulson Well now they disabled whatever this PSA was. And they only allow people from very specific countries to use the airpods as a hearing assistance device, pretty much making the device useless for many people who bought them the previous years to use the accessibility settings for hearing loss, if they don’t live in these selected countries where the Hearing Aid functionality is available.
Weird experience with it....The hearing test option wouldn't show up. Set it aside for a while, and later it did. The menu options seem inconsistent with on line tutorials.
Wow, great video and thank you for taking the time to share your insight. My wife has a condition that I'm hoping the AirPods Pro will help. She lost all of her hearing in her left ear one night in her sleep (a virus took out her auditory nerve). If she were to take the Apple hearing test and wear the AirPods, would the left one pick up noise on her left side and allow the sound to be heard in the right AirPod?
My husband tried these and they worked well for watching tv, however, when he would speak to me, the volume of his own voice was so loud that it hurt his ears. Is there possibly a setting that he needs to change?
My husband went to doctor, paid over $2000 for CHEAPEST prescription hearing aid (one, because he couldn't afford two). He HATED it. He went crazy just being near the fridge. Yes, the motor makes noise, normal noise, but nothing the average person would notice. Now we are trying to search for otc that don't cost a fortune.
They do really amp up the ambient sounds, but there's a way to tone that down with a lot of them. The AirPods Pro have a setting to adjust and so do the Sonys I'm teasting right now.
I have tried the new hearing aid function for my AirPods Pro and have to say it does a very good job. I wear hearing aids that cost me $2K and can tell you that the AirPods Pro work as good for me.
Thanks on this. Got my AirPods Pro 2 set up now. You mentioned you might get real hearing aids sometime and I recently bought a pair of the Sony C-20 in-ear tiny little things. Got them open box returned for $600. There was no ear wax in them anyway. New they were $900 I think and they are supposed to last 28 hours on a charge. They really work good. Was thinking of a $1500 pair from Jabra but these little things really do the trick.
Kudos to Apple for addressing this issue… the AirPod pro hearing aid functions have been a game changer for me
I got my hearing aids from the VA audiologist. It’s amazing how much you were missing before using them. For example I can’t hear that my blinker is on without them.
Maybe explains why BMW owners don't use their signals.
That's funny. Back in 1992, when I got my first hearing aids, I noticed for the first time my turn signals made a noise.

Working great for me. I’m 70 and absolutely loving these AirPods.
How long does the battery last?
I've been using the Airpods Pro2 hearing aid function for a few weeks now, and they are a life changer. Way, way better than the $500 OTC hearing aids I was using. My battery ran low while watching TV a few nights ago. Put them back in the case for about 10 minutes and got an additional two plus hours usage. These things are great.

I want to try these air pods deaf in one ear and good ear got tinnitus. Hopefully works
These pods however work amazingly as hearing aids, and I look like every other hip dude listening to tunes throughout their day, instead of looking like a deaf old fart :)
I wish they had a tone generator feature that would negate my tinnitus, but thats a lot to ask perhaps !
How are they for conversation in noisy environments like a restaurant?
Try adjusting the ambient sound slider in the settings. That will tone down the chewing sounds, etc
@@thejasontlewis I've been playing around with that slider and you're right with the ambient noise, but then it impacts how well I can hear the TV at level that doesn't annoy my wife. We'll see how they refine this over time. I'm encouraged and I think it's a fantastic start.
@@thejasontlewis Also, moving the "Bright Dark" slider towards the Dark side :) will tone down the sharp sounds which are intense sometimes.
How has your tinnitus been while using them now. Glad they are helping you, thanks
It’s not affecting the tinnitus, unfortunately.
I watched your first video on this feature
This new update is awesome
Great overview 😎
Thanks a lot. Excellent video. I have hearing issues similar to yours and this was a very clear, concise review.
I made the purchase yesterday and am thankful I did, they work great.
How does this work? Does the phone pick up sound and play it to the AirPods or can you use them independently of the phone?
this is amazing content i didn't even know i needed. thank you for sharing!
Thanks Jason.
Thank you Apple and please keep it up! They solved my hearing problem for $200. That's $200 instead of $2000!
Thanks for telling us this marketing propaganda. I never use Apple junk. @66 my hearing is perfect
Thank You so much for this great review 🙏💕👍
just a note: my audiologist advised against wearing hearing protection like the musicians earplugs, airpods etc. for longer periods (for people with no severe hearing issues).
it will make your brain and ears got used to these gadgets, then all noise/music/etc will be more damaging when you are not wearing them.
I agree!!
Two pairs of Air Pods still cost less than a pair of Over The Counter hearing aids.
Yes, $250 plus any insurance (or whatever AppleCare for iPods is)
I would say they’re best to be used situationally. If you have more profound problems then prescription hearing aids will serve you best.
Exactly!! It’s still cheaper than ONE traditional hearing aid $1,000+.
Thanks very educational..
Or Amazon if you don’t have Costco/don’t have a membership there
As you are aware from Apple‘s description of its hearing aid feature in AirPods Pro 2, it is intended for those with mild to medium hearing loss, the kind associated with age, as in losing the ability due to hear the higher pitched sounds, which if you’re in conversation with women can make you miss a lot of words.
I really enjoyed this. I like your style. I also needed the information so I can get started.
My pleasure!
Jason returning to you … I havent recived any notifications since a long time untill today
Thanks!
Let me know how it goes for you! I'm always interested in hearing feedback.
I’m sending the Audien Pro back this morning and am going to try these. I was very disappointed that the Audien set didn’t work
I have tenitus as well and I’ve noticed that just having them turned on without ANC or any other settings, takes away the ringing. Have you experienced that? I noticed it years ago with my Bose anc headphones.
@steveliberty, @TroyKasper, @robertadams5557 here's your pal with tinnitus, how are you guys feeling about AirPods now, does that help you?
@@PNWmtnBKR I have tenitus, both ears - have these aided you and if so - how?
@@paulstejskal 😄
Thanks for all the information!
Great info. Thank you!
I set these up for my mom who has moderate hearing loss. This is a wonderful innovation and kudos to Apple for devoting the resources into it.
Nice video, thanks ❤
Thanks. I have a pair of Sonys I'm reviewing soon and another pair coming in as well. I'm excited to try all the different options.
I can’t use it where I live. I’m pretty sure if they just called the feature differently in regions where they don’t have approval yet, they could still offer it.
Me too I don't see it in my AP 2 settings :c

Super Video Jason very informative… Thank you
I appreciate that. Glad to help.
Good info.
The function is not enabled in the uk.
Super helpful assessment of AirPod pro 2. I have first gen and wondered if I should upgrade. Listening to your experience sold me.
I hope they work out for you.
Do you need an iphone for these? Don't work with Android?
Once you have your phone off, does the hearing aid part still work? I have the Airpod Pro 2 but I am a Samsung phone user. Is there a way to avail of the hearing aid piece? I do have access to someone with an iPhone to get the firmware upgrade, but I would not be able to stay connected to their phone.
It should work bcz settings are stored in airpods ig
Have you looked through 2025 CES info?
Thanks for a very informative video.😊
My pleasure! 😊
$7800? That's a lot!
Going to the cinema, I found it's BETTER with AirPods Pro 2. Wow
very helpful video thank you!!!
You are welcome!
Thanks for this. I have updated to 18.1 but don’t see the hearing test. I live in the UK. Has it been released yet in my country?
After doing an audio test with your iPhone, why doesn't it simply give you the option to apply those results by adjusting the settings accordingly, and then you can make any further adjustments you feel it needs?
Are you saying that even before the new app came out you were using them as hearing aids? Can I use these new I pods without having an apple i phone?
Question: If you want to use them as hearing aids do you need to have the iPhone or iPad on all the time?
I understand you need one of them to set up the hearing aid. I do not have and I phone but do have an iPad.
Can I set it up then be out and about without my iPad?
No, they will work after setup without the iPhone. It is nice to have then connected because they still work as bluetooth headphones while acting as hearing aids.
@thejasontlewis Thank you, that is good news.
Thank you.@@thejasontlewis

Sorry that you are poorer (& less wiser) now ;)
I am excited about trying this. The downside for me are the silicone tips. I’ve been searching for ages to find something aftermarket that doesn’t irritate my outer ear canal. Any ideas?
I just got some foam tips from Amazon. They offer a less slippery feel so far.
What app do you use? Thx.
when wearing the earpods - do you need to have the iphone close? Sometimes my ear pods pro 2 work fantastic - other times not so good.
They DID NOT have hearing aid function, they were PSA Personal Sound Amplifiers. NOT hearing aids. The s.w. is currently scheduled for release 28 Oct '24.
Beta users already got it
Is this feature only available for US customers? I don't see it in my AP 2 setting :c
Those guitars in the back? Hearing loss? any connection? Been there done that, AirPods Pro 2 did it for me, and I still play my guitars.
Thank you for your review. I wonder if your ears still feel plugged when you use these and if you can hear voices, words more distinctly with them?
Is this available in india?
My husband went to doctor, paid over $2000 for CHEAPEST prescription hearing aid (one, because he couldn't afford two). He HATED it. He went crazy just being near the fridge. Yes, the motor makes noise, normal noise, but nothing the average person would notice. Now we are trying to search for otc that don't cost a fortune.
They do really amp up the ambient sounds, but there's a way to tone that down with a lot of them. The AirPods Pro have a setting to adjust and so do the Sonys I'm teasting right now.
WouldI have the same functionality on an Android device?
I have tried the new hearing aid function for my AirPods Pro and have to say it does a very good job. I wear hearing aids that cost me $2K and can tell you that the AirPods Pro work as good for me.
I’m testing them against other otc hearing aids and they hold up very well.
I have the C20 right now and will review them soon.
Where is the mic? Does it use the microphone in the iPhone? Or does it use a microphone in the air pods?
I'm assuming you can wear just one if you have a radio ear piece in the other?
What is the bluetooth device you recommended? Does it work with AirPods pro2
