Jackie did you remember disposable gloves? I'm not picking on you! I thought of it when mixing Apoxie the other day. It says on the label you're supposed to wear gloves to mix it at the very least. Some say to use it, too, but that one is debatable. If not, no big deal, you were insanely efficient with your Not Another Crap Kit. If you did, dang woman, you are a BOSS! ;) I ordered mine within minutes of it going live so lack of gloves isn't going to change my mind (LOL)

You have folks who care about you. Please talk with someone you trust who can advocate for you when you feel at your lowest point. You aren't alone or broken or worthless (even if that's how you see yourself at the moment). It takes an insane amount of courage and bravery to actually acknowledge when we need help (been there, doing it now) then accepting help when we need it. You ARE worthy. Gentle hugs and healing energy to you. ✌👍❤

I have nobody IRL. No friends, no supportive family (we don't even communicate, really). I'm in an emotionally and mentally abusive relationship. Some tell me it's financially abusive, too. I'm disabled in ways people don't understand. I've called domestic abuse hotlines, mental health organizations, and government agencies, and they can't understand or work with my OCD (one of my mental issues, but I need to talk right now, not do ocd therapy again, to ease my stress), or they tell me I "have too much going on" for them to be able to help me. I can't work, and I don't get enough SSDI for disabilities, which some are new since I first got on SSDI. I have a psychiatrist who mostly just gives me pills. The last time I talked to him, I told him I was afraid what would happen to me if something happened to my boyfriend, and he suggested I marry him. I told him I have no interest in marrying him, and he has no interest in marrying me. He then said, if my boyfriend and I got married and he died, I'd get an inheritance. I repeated my lack of interest and my boyfriend's. Even if my boyfriend DID want to marry me, I DO NOT want to marry him. I've had psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, etc., for 43 years. I've been told some crazy things. In my early 20s, I told my then-psychologist I didn't want children, and she told me I should have a hysterectomy, that she'd had one, and it was no big deal.
I've never lived on my own, wasn't taught, dearly want to (with my cats and what's left of my personal property), but I'm scared.

This week has been horrific for me. My little boy got excluded from school for the second time. He's 8 and has adhd and is autistic. After the school sent him home for hurting another child I discovered he had been hurt by the adult supposed to be caring for him. School have denied this but its true I know it is.
My heart is broken and I'm all out of spoons given my own health.

It's funny you were talking about "gut feeling" near the end. One time at university, there was a guy who came into our lab and on my, my gut feeling was screeea-ming 'get out, get out, get out, now!" and I left. I never had before (nor after) an intense feeling like this with skin crawling and all and still to this day, I don't know why I reacted like this to this guy. Never saw him in the school again. really weird. Again, really interesting topic today, would be curious to learn more about other books that impacted you like this. thanks for sharing!!

I really needed those words on doing the best I can. As a single solo mom with borderline personality disorder and adhd and a carp ton of health issues (that I can't find a doctor to take seriously) I beat myself up alot wishing I could give my daughter everything she needs. But this past year I've really gone downhill mental health wise sometimes we have cereal for dinner because I've used up all my energy just hanging on. I need to try harder to be kind to myself. I would hate for my daughter to think of herself the way I think of myself.
Also I started wearing shorts outside which I haven't done since I was in grade school. Rocking the thunder thighs and not covering up my scars. Why should I be so uncomfortable in multiple layers to hide under its crazy hot in Toronto these days.

I have had quite a bit of trauma myself as a child, teenager and even as an adult. Was in toxic relationships, but through counseling/therapy, I have learned to trust my instincts more and break toxic cycles that I was in. The biggest thing I’ve learned and yet the hardest was; to forgive myself and let go/walk away from the very things that was harmful to me. Including distancing myself from family members who are/were toxic.

  • @BrittaCoaching

This really lights my heart up to hear you talk about your trauma and where you are now. I am essentially a trauma coach and I help people (primarily entrepreneurial women) heal from a lot of that in the form of emotional blocks, personal agreements and societal programming. I love the four agreements. Such simple truths but so profound. Thank you for talking about these things. I’ve loved watching you for a while now but these podcasts just take it to such a deeper level.
I hope you’re feeling better and the procedure is having the desired results. Sending light, love and healing vibes

Wow, Jackie, that was FASCINATING! I’ve been aware of the four agreements for years but it never meant anything to me. I suffer from severe depression and several chronic illnesses, so I look for anything to help.
YOUR broadcast and analysis of the four agreements and what they mean to you, through your personal examples and very articulate way of expressing yourself, made these agreements more understandable to me. I don’t know yet if I can apply them, but I’m definitely saving this podcast so I can hear it again and see if I can apply it toward my life. I NEED something like this in my life. You have inspired me, 😁and I think that this could help me in my journey.
Thank you so much for explaining something in such detail and with clarity, that I now understand in a completely different and much more usable way.
Thank you thank you thank you! I have always been a fan of yours and watch all your videos. Love ya, and I hope your back surgery is progressing well and your healing and feeling better. ☺️❤️👍🏼

To me what I refer to as gossip is when someone elevates themselves or their circumstances over someone else or their circumstances. When someone uses someone else to appear better than, then "to me" THAT is gossip. If speaking of others was ALL considered gossip, well this would be a VERY quiet world.

I know exactly what you meen, my Granparents were farmer, I spend the most of my holidays with them. In the morning, when the cows got ready to got milked, I went down stairs and sneacked into the stable. It was quite early, so my grandma would send me back to bed. But I could not wait for breakfast were we had fresh milk. And when the milk stood a whyle there were cream above the milk. And often I were alloud to "snack" this cream with a little sugar. I even made budder with my "oma" (i am German) I just told her, that is a really deep memory of mine. Loved it. The name used in Germany is whole milk or raw milk. You can get it nower days not that easy as back than. Had to stop the video, it is not my theme, or to much my theme. Get well still.

"I'm doing the best I can with what I have" is going to be my mantra now. I was an athlete practicing ballet at a professional level for 20 years, plus other dancing techniques.
But it was not my career, I practiced it as a hobby. Then my career and kids took more time and left most dancing and exercise out due to time. And fast forward to 5 years ago when I had an accident that left my right (and dominant hand) partially disable per nerve damage and constant neural pain. Fast forward to today my 100% varies too much from day to day depending on my mobility and pain level. So I need to remind myself that it's okay to do what I can with what I have every given day

I feel like this was a solid view of Jackie in Teacher Mode! Very much felt like I was back in a college literary discussion course, just the professor and maybe a dozen students talking about a book. I would love to see you bringing on viewers/subscribers to have like... a classroom setting kind of thing where we get to see you leading a group discussion.
And I agree on the gossip topic, sometimes gossip is really important to share information and protect people. As an example in recent drama in the art community, if more people had talked about what was going on (allegedly) with a certain creator's behavior, maybe more people could have been spared the pain and trauma of dealing with it personally. Sometimes we have to come together as a community to protect each other from toxic people and gossip is a useful tool in doing that.

With the cream aspect of the conversation, it sounds kinda similar to clotted cream we have in the UK, although we don't have it on its own with honey, it's what we put on our scones with jam, and is that super thick spooning consistency, might be a good alternative if you can get your hands on it in Canada!

I love philosophical discussions and debates! That's what my bestie and I did in art class in the last year of school. So much fun!
I had to stop watching at half an hour for my mental health. Touching on things I've been doing in therapy. But on the plus side you've helped me realise where a phrase my parents used came from. They just took it too far. There's a difference between trying to teach a child that not everyone is "impeccable with their word", saying don't take it to heart, and using the same phrase to excuse their own bullying "jokes".
So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you, Jackie. You helped me find a missing puzzle piece bridging the gap between how I was as a small child and how I came to be this tangled version of myself

I'm loving the philosophical podcasts, Jackie! I was always a "weird" teenager, more interested in reading, critical thinking, and things like that, so I totally understand what you mean. I am going through a lot lately, treating myself really bad because I have severe depression and I can't study as much as would some months ago, and this video came just in time to help me remember that my 100% does not have to be the same everyday. I think it is something we all know deep inside, but do not want or are not able to apply, but we totally should! By the way, I hope you are feeling much better. Looking forward to you next podcast video. Lots of love from Spain! :)

Do the best you can with what you have, when you have it…. It was like a lighting strike to my brain. Having chronic autoimmune diseases, they really do rob you of what you had. It’s so so easy to judge yourself for failing and getting stuck in the belief that your lazy or horrible because you are no longer what you once where…. I think I have been slowly adjusting and internalising the acceptance and kindness I need to show myself to heal the pain of living “less” of a life than I used too, but having it put into such a succinct phrase really felt like a shock of relief. It feel like I’m on the right path and it’s okay to be okay with where I am at day by day- even though it differs so wildly sometimes. Thank you Jackie for sharing your thoughts again. Sending healing hugs and spoons for you!

  • @Kreative_Rainbow

I think what makes gossip so challenging is that it often is a form of comparison. And putting others down so a person feels better about themselves.
I also am overweight. The irritating thing with all these rights of certain groups of people affecting who you can joke about and how to not offend others is that weight is still a target. Comedians target overweight people frequently. You are also dismissed by others as having the right to an opinion or could possibly see things clearly. Medical people are the most challenging with this issue. An overweight person in an ER will be looked down on and dismissed extremely easily. And if you are a woman or have known mental health issues, you better have someone, preferably male, with you for them to listen.
The next 2 topics seem almost intertwined. So it makes sense to cover them together.
Not taking things personally is a big challenge, especially if it is negative towards myself.

Jackie you are totally right: as mean as gossip sometimes sounds it is a means of socialization. We get closer to each other. The problem is, when we take it to an extrem and badmouth about every human being. But for example: gossiping about the boss can make the team work harder together :) plus it is a stress relief

In spanish your "ishta" is called "nata" and I hated it because people never put that apart, so they serve you the Milo with that weird thing on top or they strain it before serving. But that was with the Milk we buy in the supermarket, pasteurized and all. Everybody seemed to love the nata. I rather not say how bad I disliked it. It has to do with texture and it felt like snot for me. 😥

You don't even have to find a farm, many people living in the countryside have cows, and they would happily sell you milk if you ask for it, or any other produce. The little boy (aged 6) I nanny often asks me questions like “how long is the Wall of China?”, “how high/far can a German Shepherd dog jump?”, “could a crocodile/alligator crush a car if it bit it?”, and I will often ask him what he thinks, then I’ll give my opinion and then we check in a book/online. I feel that a lot of this sounds a bit like be kind, honest and helping when you can as long as you are being kind to yourself...My childhood was so full of sex, verbal, and 👱‍♂emotional abuse. It takes years to learn to trust others💯. Or feel loved...Yes go on, and I will be there.👏👍👌 Thank you dear Jackie for showing us this side of you. Love to you. 🙏for your health.❤❤❤

"Anything is negative if you take it to extreme" Absolutely. I try to tell people this all the time. I can relate to a lot of what you are saying. I have never read this book, which I'm surprised, but I have heard a lot of this before. I am going to have to give this book a read. With the impeccable with your word, O have learned to be to assertive while speaking, I'm not sure if it goes along with that or not. I also get the saying certain things can program you, if you keep telling yourself something you will eventually believe it, whether it be positive or negative. I love getting to know you. 💜

The quote about keeping your word impeccable, I take that to mean not being self deprecating, which I was the queen of for a long time. Also, thinking people are gossiping/badmouthing me when I am left out of a conversation or people are laughing and giggling across the room from me. So empowering now to think ‘Ah well, even if they are, who cares!’

  • @blueumbreon444
    @blueumbreon444 3 года назад

I think the best way to tell if gossip is bad is the intent of the speaker. Are they getting a laugh out of other's misfortunes and trying to hurt them or they trying to caution the listener away from a person or activity.
It's best to avoid bad gossipers because they spread bad feelings and will likely turn on anyone, including you, if they feel they can get a good story out of it.

The coffee chats are my favorite, also one of my fav things to do anytime, even though most of my friends drink tea...
'Weird milk' ... For part of my earlier childood, my dad worked for a farmer and would bring fresh milk home in big gallon glass jugs... The milk would separate while sitting in the fridge, my dad always took the thicker cream from the top... We would let each layer separate, pour off the cream, and by the botyom of the jugs,it was the equivilant to skim milk... We then had to heat the milk to pasteurize it before drinking... Now there is a milk truck that delivers,my son is thrilled at getting milk in glass jugs...
'Internal dialog 'is a tough on to get a hold of, After 50yrs i had a conversation with myself... Basicly,it's my job to be my own best friend, back biting, stinking thinking and negative messaging, is not acceptable... When it starts up,which from time to time it does, I grab hold of it asap, thats not how friends treat one another... It takes practice, but it works for me...

Often, there's a singular event in a relationship that represents that relationship in it's entirety. Recognizing it is often difficult at the time, but later is seems so clear. Learning to break the cycle first involves recognizing the pattern. I have broken the cycle, but I don't know how to fix it.

I think the most important is the first one about speaking the truth bc if we speak the truth, esp to ourselves, then we can be happy and more at ease. I've been reading the power of now for over a year now. Yeah, I know... but like you said it's circular, so its like I'll pick it up from time to time as a reminder and to get a slightly different perspective on what's going on.
It's illegal in North America to sell. However, if you partner with a farmer, you can legally own a portion of the cow, like owning a portion of a stock without owning the whole stock. And so, you can get the raw milk from the cow you own, legally. The unsaid portion is that you will boil your own milk you receive from your cow, but some people don't. I have some friends and colleagues who grew up on dairy farms. One even talked about how she had her raw milk in an open pit her or jug in the fridge and there would be this film that developed on top and she would peel it off when she went to get milk. Not sure if she ever ate it, if it was safe or not to eat (legally).

I'm still learning to never forget what somebody did to me. I tend to be angry, sad and after a while I rationalize peoples behaviour. Then I forget and the cycle repeats itself again. I don't know if it's some kind of coping mechanism from nearly constant manipulation and gaslighting. Maybe people who are stuck in toxic relationship have similar problem.

Oh! When I was a kid, I couldn't drink cow milk (I still can't by the way). So my parents went early Sundays to a goat farm and bought goat milk for me and my sister. So every Sunday morning the house will smell like the goat milk candy known as cajeta because my parents were boiling the milk (and smells similar) and we had that type of cream from the top of the boiled goat milk and it was amazing! We ate it both salty or sweet, depending to what we added it to (corn tortilla/bread with avocado and salt or flour tortilla/bread with jam). I guess is something similar to cottage cheese or cream cheese. Just less "cheesey".
I live in México by the way, and while I don't think it's prohibited to sell raw milk, it's not easy to get if you live in a city. It's easier on the country side near farming and cattle ranches (
there are tons a couple of counties near the city I live).
Nowadays even goat milk is hard to buy because it is mostly used in the candy industry. And with cow milk, most of it goes to the pasteurize plants, so they don't sell to locals much.

Have you tried British clotted cream? Clotted cream is traditionally made by heating fresh cow's milk, then setting and cooling it for hours in a shallow pan. This thick cream has at least 55% butterfat. You can usually buy it in jars in British shops (or fancy cheese shops). It’s heavier than whipped cream - kept in the refrigerator it’s almost like whipped butter. It’s put on scones with jam - absolutely delicious!!! It sounds fairly close to the Egyptian cream.

I think of gossip as speaking untruths about people, or sharing secrets. The gossip of women doing laundry together, I’m sure, helped keep villiages together as a community for ever and ever, but we all know the eye of the gossip on us, right? Knowing they’re going to make stuff up or start saying negative things about totally innocent stuff. So I can see where not everything that is “talking about people” is “gossip”. It’s been a looong time since I read the Four Agreements too, though. But that idea that people do things because of their own univese was really important for me as a you ger adult. And deserves revisiting al the time like “omg why am I left at read? What did I do!?” becomes, oh that person is busy and I can support them by being understanding of that.

I love how you talk about food in every episode. It's always neat to get insights into how different cultures use and eat food and ashta sounds delicious. Every time you and Sika talk about being petty or protective of food I TOTALLY RELATE lol
I wish I had had someone like you as a professor. Most of mine were awful. I had two professors who required a citation or reference at the end of every sentence, which still baffles me to this day. When I challenged them during their office hours, saying I wanted to form my own critical opinion about the subject, and argue my point using existing theory or challenge existing theory, I was cut down. Do you know how long it takes and how much you DON'T learn making sure that EVERY sentence you write in an 10+ page paper is cited?
The discussion on the four agreements is fascinating. I find the second agreement maybe the most challenging personally. I also mistreat myself by wishing I was where I used to be, and I think doing your best, whatever your best is, is potentially the most important. I'm also not a fan of Eckhart Tolle!
And if you're anything like me, you've tried almost everything to feel better physically, but just in case, I want to mention aqua therapy. Exercising in the pool has been a game changer for me and tends not to trigger any of my chronic pain unless I go at my exercises too hard or for too long. Thank you for another great episode!

Omg! Same milk thing happens in India!, we call it 'malai'. We can make so many things with it . We use it for making 'ghee' with it only if you know what it is , it is pure butter. We get the milk from the dairy directly and if we get the pure cow or buffalo milk it make such good thick malai (the cream she talked about) and it's just sooo good if you take it and put sugar in it ,mix it and eat it it's just so amazing in itself. We even it that mixture putting on toast, which tastes amazing as well. And u can add onions , carrot and capcicum etc. Chopped mic it with ishta(I hope I spelled it right) with some spices and salt put it on bread , add some butter on pan and cook it. And believe me it tastes amazing and is a great breakfast I like to have and my mum makes it for me.
