"That one was talking shit!" I love playing FL4K. Even though I suck at headshots, he's still really fun to play, his pet especially is fantastic since it means one more thing to split damage between, making his survivability pretty good. Also the DLC lets you have a Hyperion Loader as a pet and after the absolute hell those things gave me in 2, it's so good to have one on my side.
Going for an irradiated master build and my god I haven't had this much fun playing a video game in years! I can't wait to explore the rest of the characters.
I'm going a heal god build. You go down the masters far enough to get the Healing Rift and the kill talent that increases the duration of the rift for everytime flak or his pet kills anything. Then you go fully down stalker where you get all the health bonuses and regen bonuses and dmg based on health. The healing rift heals 20% of you HP per second and with the right talents it will last longer than its cooldown. Allowing you to stand on 1 spot and basically take 0 damage. Especially since you and your pet will benefit from each others healing. + this will make this build an amazing co-op build as well since teammates share the regen. Edit: Said master tree twice. You go Master then Stalker

I'll put it simple like this and just list the talents you need. to Start 3 IN persistence Hunter and 2 in Ferocity. Then 5 in Who rescued Who? 3 in Hive Mind 3 In Barbaric Yawp 1 in Mutated Defenses 1 in Pack Tactics. Then Grab on the left Endurance and Burst Aid. In stalker you go. 5 in Self Repair, 5 in Eager to Impress and 3 in All my BFFs. 1 in the revive skill 3 in Turn Tail and run. 3 in Fast and Furryous 5 in Rage and Recover and 1 in Power Inside (full health = mo dmg) Then there should be a few points let over to fill in the master tree.
When talking about the Rakk Attack augment that gave an additional charge, it boosted cooldown *rate*, not cooldown time! That means you get an extra charge and the charges should be back faster, not slower.
After watching this I'm for sure picking Fl4k as my first character. His abilities seem very fun to me & it seems like I can try a bunch play styles with him.
I choose fl4k for my first play through and i did a half and half of master and stalker. i'm only level 37 and just beat the game but gamma rift plus jabber works best in my opinion. i haven't even touched the hunter tree
Yes hes more than likely going to be the boss and maybe even raid boss killing machine of the game. His crit build is very insane with the right weapons. out of all of the footage I've seen fl4k will definitely be killing bosses faster than everyone else. Everyone else I'm sure will be able to hold their own with the bosses dont get me wrong, but fl4k just seems to be dealing the most damage out of everyone most of the time cause crits are 2x-3x the damage. I'm personally going moze cause her playstyle looks fun. Fl4k is cool just not intriguing for me yet I'll play him eventually, pets are cool though.
Can't wait! I was thinking that it would of been cool to be able to dismantle weapons and items like in the game Realm Royale for points to buy miscellaneous things, making looting and exploring an even more liable thing to do.
Flak has the highest burst damage with fade away AS but they are vulnerable while on that 45 sec CD. However Moze has the highest DPS without using her AS at all, leaving the mech for a second hp pool every 2 min. Also Flak gets the worst anointed weapon perks while Moze gets some of the very best anointed perks.
So I just bought BL3 and was feeling FL4K just because I loved Zer0 in BL2, and this guide totally sold me. Seems like exactly my kind of character since crit shotgun build are my jam. Appreciate this guide for covering all the ups and downs for a newcomer. Thanks dude!
To follow up on it, I'm now in TVHM, mayhem 3, and still absolutely loving my stealth shotgun crit build. Bit glass cannon-y, but the damage I'm dishing out is so worth it.
Hunter all the way for my first playthrough. I am going to do multiple playthroughs for each character with different skillsets for each 4 vault hunters and going to learn the game's mechanics and what exactly is being reflected during the combat all by my own.
Depends how you wanna play. Moze is a slow grindy character more solo oriented whereas Fl4k does really well in his own but also contributes a lot to a coop playthrough
@ErikSweed Moze offers little outside of pure DPS to a co-op playthrough whereas Fl4k offers all the different bonuses his pets give, utility, sustain, DPS as he has the highest pure gun damage potential in the game, and his pets can help with revives which aids in survivability.
I'm assuming it's all the gear, but if that's true that's super awesome and powerful. The only thing thats keeping me from fade away fl4k right away is that long cooldown

I’m leaning toward maining Zane but I’ll probably try all the vault hunters. I use to love Sirens but Amara for some reason doesn’t seem as good as Maya or Lilith. Maybe I’m wrong and will find that as I play it just doesn’t seem it from the videos I’ve seen.
She's less of a Siren and more of a Space Monk. I dig it, to be honest; cuz I don't align her with Sirens, so my interests are more aligned with her melee capabilities.

Tbh I'm running Zane first but I would go Fl4k if soooooooo many people weren't going him. Imma definitely run him 2nd. I feel like Fl4k and Zane will dominate most lobbies.

I played this game when it first came out and hated how hard it was. I grew a pair recently and looked up if the game was hard and got answers. It mentioned the classes being heavily diverse, and there were some that were designed for veteran players, for example Zane. The funny thing is I actually played as Zane. And my only prerequisite experience was playing as Zero in Borderlands 2 and I didn't get too far. So I learned FL4K is the best for newbies or beginners. So that's the only reason I'm choosing FL4K. Is because all those Badass GigaPsycho-Hoohahs were spreading my asshole wider than the circumference of the Raj Mahal when I played as Zane.
I’m torn between using the rakks or using the invisibility... it’s like either using Mordecai or using Zer0. The double rakks and healing could be good.. but also, the criticals seem very overpowered
Amara or Moze when done right, maybe zane when absolutely super geared, fl4k is probably possible but j see that being very skill and gear reliant as well, where i could see getting really really strong fast paced amara and maybe moze too without as much requirements to meet first
My biggest question is can I play a smg/assault rifle F4lk with the skag and rakk ability without having to spec into 3 different trees and still deal good damage

Amara is fantastic for 1 hitting trash and general room clearing without a reliance on her AS - literally just a decent shotgun and your melee button. Also arguably the best in terms of survivability, Zane being that pretty solid argument Fl4k is fun as hell though. Everyone seems pretty balanced
I’ve been wanting to play fl4k since he was revealed, but I love my elemental guns. Is he still okay to play even if I don’t follow the “Jakob’s only” type of gameplay?
I'm horrible about what name is what.... I'm going down the Green Tree on my first play through with some dabbling in a few spots on the blue and orange tree for damage to FL4K and pet along with movement speed upgrades and crit damage increases. Working out pretty darn well so far.
I'm playing through the game with that type of build in mind. From what I see in the skills it should be really good. Both the stalker and master trees give FL4K and the pet lots of survivability. Here's all the skills that i'm getting that increase survivability I'm using gamma burst and I use the skag pet over the jabber because I like his increased agreesiveness and passive damage boost. I plan on using great horned skag latter on for even nore damage but if I decide I want even more survivability but still want agression I'll go beefcake jabber which gives a movement speed and max health increase. Either way the Master tree's Barbaric Yawp skil is great because doubles the passive pet bonus when maxed out at 5 points. So a +10% damage and +20% gun damage for great horned skag or +10% movement speed and +20% max health for beefcake jabber. *Master Tree* *Burst Aid* Final action skill augment for gamma burst. Gamma burst leaves a rift behind that gives 20% max health regen to Fl4K and all allies near it *Who rescued who?* Pet damage gives FL4K max health regen FL4K damage heals pet for a portion of damage. *He Bites!* Portion of pet damage taken reflected back at attacker *Hive Mind* Portion of damage FL4K takes goes to pet instead. *Mutated defenses* Pet gets. 40% max health regen and 30% damage reduction for 6 seconds when low health, 15 second cooldown. *Shared spirit* When FL4K is low health %50 of damge taken goes to pet instead *Pack tactics* FL4K and pet max health increase *Stalker tree* *Self-repairing system* Max health increase and regen for FL4K *Eager to Impress* Kills reduce action skill cooldown time, pet kills reduce further (This is important for when I use Gamma burst to revive my pet) *All My BFF's* All allies get a portion of FL4K's health regen, pet gets double the portion *Lick the Wounds* Pet can revive you *Turn Tail and Run* FL4k gets max health regen and damage reduction while moving, gun damage and fire rate while still Keep in mind these are just survival skills. Fl4k has some other useful skills like ferocity, sick 'em, and empathic rage
I'll be honest and this isn't spite or malice. You did a very poor job of breaking down Fl4k. You failed to realize how guns can be implemented into difference play styles. For example, you said the hunter tree is dedicated towards crits where I'd highly disagree. The hunter tree is focused on around pure damage. Making your already owned guns even better and partially maximizing on them for whatever the gun may be. The stalker tree is built entirely around the gun that you're using and no, snipers nor shotguns are ideal for really any play style of Fl4k. Machine guns and submachine guns or even auto sniper rifles and torgue shotguns acting as grenade launchers (early game it's a blessing). It's about getting the most damage out as possible focusing on crits and with passives that rely on said crits to truly maximize it's potential. In retrospect, the hunter class is made for lower tier players who need the buff to make their guns more viable due to the lacking crit potential where as the stalker is made for higher tier players who make fine adjustments to their slotted gear in order to min-max their setup. As for the other skill tree, don't even care to google (master something?) it because it's just pointless unless you're running with a team but even then... why? In regard to the other, least popular skill tree, we need to wait for gearbox to adjust the pet to make it almost equivalent to the player themselves in order for this to be a viable tree in any regard besides early level gameplay. Otherwise, the buffs of other characters double the base potential of their character at the very least where as the sad excuse for a skill tree, master something or other gives maybe a 30% buff to base level. That simply isn't viable, ESPECIALLY in end game.

I’m at a crossroads... I’m at level 12 with FL4K and honestly he’s boring. I really don’t want to start all over but I just might. The pets are useless, the skag constantly dies.
Will you do the other hunters? Everyone is on Fl4k robo dick. I like him as well, but I want to see the others, especially Zane. I'd also like to see amara. Initially, she didn't appeal to me at all, but now I'm more interested in her, but Zane is my guy.
Since we can switch action skills whenever. I think a good god idea for Fl4k might be to use gamma burst for mobs and rakk attack for burst damage in bosses because of its 2 charges and now cool down
Yes but keep in mind that the better pets down the tree give you more bonuses (atleast during leveling, high level you can reach the advanced pets of a 2nd tree)

This was my favorite of the 3 skill trees. Also, once you can double dip into the other trees it really excels.

The increased cooldown rate means that it cools down FASTER. It's not just good for burst, but it also lets you use the ability a bit faster.

I played this game when it first came out and hated how hard it was. I grew a pair recently and looked up if the game was hard and got answers. It mentioned the classes being heavily diverse, and there were some that were designed for veteran players, for example Zane. The funny thing is I actually played as Zane. And my only prerequisite experience was playing as Zero in Borderlands 2 and I didn't get too far. So I learned FL4K is the best for newbies or beginners. So that's the only reason I'm choosing FL4K. Is because all those Badass GigaPsycho-Hoohahs were spreading my asshole wider than the circumference of the Raj Mahal when I played as Zane.
I'm gonna try to mix the master tree with the vanish stalker ability
so far it's going okay but hes not very tanky so he gets down a bit

I’m torn between using the rakks or using the invisibility... it’s like either using Mordecai or using Zer0. The double rakks and healing could be good.. but also, the criticals seem very overpowered

Amara or Moze when done right, maybe zane when absolutely super geared, fl4k is probably possible but j see that being very skill and gear reliant as well, where i could see getting really really strong fast paced amara and maybe moze too without as much requirements to meet first

FL4K's writer confirmed the character is supposed to be non-binary, hence they go by "they/them" pronouns in game.

So after playing the game now. I honestly don't see the point in using anyone else apart from flak he is by far the best character
Amara is fantastic for 1 hitting trash and general room clearing without a reliance on her AS - literally just a decent shotgun and your melee button. Also arguably the best in terms of survivability, Zane being that pretty solid argument

Elemental guns still hit hard with Flak if you are using the right ones against the right target.
I'm horrible about what name is what.... I'm going down the Green Tree on my first play through with some dabbling in a few spots on the blue and orange tree for damage to FL4K and pet along with movement speed upgrades and crit damage increases. Working out pretty darn well so far.
do you think for endgame a stalker/master build is feasible? would it be only good for mobbing or would it be still effective in boss battle too?
I'm playing through the game with that type of build in mind. From what I see in the skills it should be really good. Both the stalker and master trees give FL4K and the pet lots of survivability.
Here's all the skills that i'm getting that increase survivability
I'm using gamma burst and I use the skag pet over the jabber because I like his increased agreesiveness and passive damage boost. I plan on using great horned skag latter on for even nore damage but if I decide I want even more survivability but still want agression I'll go beefcake jabber which gives a movement speed and max health increase. Either way the Master tree's Barbaric Yawp skil is great because doubles the passive pet bonus when maxed out at 5 points. So a +10% damage and +20% gun damage for great horned skag or +10% movement speed and +20% max health for beefcake jabber.

Final action skill augment for gamma burst.
Gamma burst leaves a rift behind that gives 20% max health regen to Fl4K and all allies near it

FL4k gets max health regen and damage reduction while moving, gun damage and fire rate while still
Keep in mind these are just survival skills. Fl4k has some other useful skills like ferocity, sick 'em, and empathic rage

I'll be honest and this isn't spite or malice. You did a very poor job of breaking down Fl4k. You failed to realize how guns can be implemented into difference play styles. For example, you said the hunter tree is dedicated towards crits where I'd highly disagree. The hunter tree is focused on around pure damage. Making your already owned guns even better and partially maximizing on them for whatever the gun may be. The stalker tree is built entirely around the gun that you're using and no, snipers nor shotguns are ideal for really any play style of Fl4k. Machine guns and submachine guns or even auto sniper rifles and torgue shotguns acting as grenade launchers (early game it's a blessing). It's about getting the most damage out as possible focusing on crits and with passives that rely on said crits to truly maximize it's potential. In retrospect, the hunter class is made for lower tier players who need the buff to make their guns more viable due to the lacking crit potential where as the stalker is made for higher tier players who make fine adjustments to their slotted gear in order to min-max their setup. As for the other skill tree, don't even care to google (master something?) it because it's just pointless unless you're running with a team but even then... why? In regard to the other, least popular skill tree, we need to wait for gearbox to adjust the pet to make it almost equivalent to the player themselves in order for this to be a viable tree in any regard besides early level gameplay. Otherwise, the buffs of other characters double the base potential of their character at the very least where as the sad excuse for a skill tree, master something or other gives maybe a 30% buff to base level. That simply isn't viable, ESPECIALLY in end game.

His pets should've been a stalker, skag, and spiderant and instead of special variants you could get an elemental badass

Na u can play solo or coop, for the endgame i think its similar to borderlands 2 with some new things, but more will come :)
Since we can switch action skills whenever. I think a good god idea for Fl4k might be to use gamma burst for mobs and rakk attack for burst damage in bosses because of its 2 charges and now cool down
Rakk is more for mobs, fade away for burst damage on badass/ boss types.

Yes but keep in mind that the better pets down the tree give you more bonuses (atleast during leveling, high level you can reach the advanced pets of a 2nd tree)
