My reason to buy an RX 350 is reliability and that's it. I wonder why the car makers like Cadillac, BMW and Mercedes still don't get it. Reliabilty is the major factor when we buy a vehicle. It is just my own opinion.
Reliability is not just a luxury & it's a necessity when you have an SUV that's meant to be a multi-purpose vehicle shared among family members. When you're busy with the other tasks or headaches in your life, reliability is essential to get those tasks done without having to make multiple trips to your dealership's service department or to a mechanic

Brad Colby We had a 2013 that was leased. Wife drove it. She didn’t like that the backup camera didn’t have any lines or a frame for guidance. When the lease expired, she got a Murano cause it has a 360 camera. It also has a CVT which I hate when I drive it. Wish we would have kept the Lexus, the Murano isn’t in the same league. Lexus dealers experience was top notch and it wasn’t expensive for routine maintenance like the German brands. I’m here cause I’m thinking of a new RX. 🤔

The people that buy a RX know exactly what they want ... they want smooth, luxury, reliability, resale, cost of ownership and image. Plenty of ppl buy a European vehicle then switch to a Lexus later. It just works.
@Rela Stela Yeah, you're right. No one goes German than to Lexus. Reason for that being by the time you attempt to trade in your German car, it's broken down as it's fixed with the most unreliable parts. Good one, buckaroo.

Here in the south, Lexus is synonymous with "old money." The interior as long as it is plush, and exterior somewhat sporty, will continue to be king. People who buy this vehicle don't care too much about flashy toys like brands such as Mercedes and Audi provide, they care about noise levels and reliability. This is justified by the almost 20 year old blockbuster GX460 and the GS350. Lexus knows it's target American audience and they continue to be brand loyal.
Plus, for some of those toys, I feel it’s better to buy them aftermarket instead of paying a premium that will be tacked on to you car note loan (and interest)
Maybe I'm just old, but I love the interior. I like buttons and a CD player. I'm not a fan of minimalistic I interiors so many companies are going to. It feels like a cockpit, and that's the very thing I like.

I have never been a Toyota/Lexus fan as they always seemed to be behind the curve when compared to their competitors. But recently I bought my wife a used Lexus NX 300. I thought it was a really dumb move as we could have bought a new Mazda CX-5 for nearly the same money. But after going through the dealer experience (it was a CPO car) and living with the car, I have to say...I'm very impressed. The car is just quality. Switches feel great. Seats are great. Ride is great. Performance is more than adequate. I've probably owned over 30 vehicles in my life and none really gave me the feeling of solid reliability like the Lexus. It seems indestructible. I'd say if you lease a car or trade every two or three years then there are some fancier options that might make you happier. But if you keep a car for 5 to 10 years, I think the Lexus may be the ticket. They seem to focus more on the tried and true than the latest and greatest.
Veyronp87 and the best part is is nobody is gonna hit you because they’ll think you’re driving an uninsured Pontiac Aztek cuz the front end is so fucking ugly.
💯. I have one on my 2017. And on top of that, the 12 in screen was also already available. They upped it on the Highlander to match the RX...not the inverse.
Living in South Florida, I really did not want the panoramic roof, so I special-ordered my 2019 RX 350, with all the options I wanted, last year. I had to wait almost 5 months for delivery, but it was worth it to me. I wouldn't want any 3rd row seating, personally.
In the market to buy a second car next year and RX is at the top of the list. I currently drive a Camry, so reliability is my biggest factor, but I also want a dash of luxury thrown in there. Lexus just makes sense.
I recently picked up my 2020 RX350, continuing my ownership of RX models since 2004. Clearly, I think that they are superior in design, comfort, quiet, equipment and reliability. The two-row model is quite spacious, with 38 inches of legroom in the second row--easily accommodating 6 foot+ individuals behind front seats positioned for 6 foot+ individuals in the front row. I prefer the controls in the RX (except for that horrible track pad, but it is made obsolete because the screen can now be touch-controlled), especially the traditional shifter as opposed to the ridiculous joy stick or push button shifters adopted by some competitors. Two-row RX models are typically priced from the mid-$50's to $60k, which is quite respectable when compared to European competitors.
As a Lexus driver since 2004 as well I second your sentiment 100% I started with the LS 430 in 04 then switched to the RX 350 starting in 2010 and then a 2015 RX now I'm staying until I croaked with my last year's acquisition the 2022 RX the last of the V6 engine. Over the years I have had many other vehicles, and I can attest that nothing drives and feels as good as a Lexus, the quality and reliability are unmatched.
@@RichieRichMD It's good to hear from you. I hope that Lexus listens to loyal customers like us. I'm planning to keep my 2021 RX350 until they see sense and again offer a V6.
@@robertehlers3757 💯 x a zillion In agreement with you Robert, surprise to see Lexus jumping into the bandwagon with the 2023 model and 4 cylinder bi-turbo which actually requires 91 premium gas and it is indeed a subpar vehicle in every single aspect compared to all of the V6 engines, not counting a very fuzzy screen without dials, horrible! in my experience.
@@tommydo961 give me a break, if you were all so smart you would not have to move here. I find most asians (chinese) drive mercedes and BMW where I live, so much for your theory about being smart with reliability.. the RX is probably the most reliable luxury SUV you can buy.
@@austing4321 Reliability is important as are innovation, technology, and design aesthetics. Toyota/Lexus products are rarely associated with those last three.
@@JulezWinnfield Well Hyundai and Honda definitely innovate a lot and they're generally reliable as of late so it's possible to do both. I just think manufacturers rush these "innovative" engines to the market for an extra 2 mpg and it ends up being a quality disaster. I'll once again point to Honda's 1.5L turbo and Hyundai's Theta II engines. Innovation is fine but if you're going to sell to a general costumer, make sure it's reliable and safe.
This is a great vehicle. Reviewers might not like the old shifter, and buttons, but people who actually use these things on a daily basis love them. Too many companies have gone overboard with removing buttons and putting in huge screens. You also buy this vehicle because it is comfortable. It is not a sports machine. probably the most common reason it sells so well, is that it holds its value very well, and if you choose to; you can keep it for 20 years and put hundreds of thousands of miles on it with little concerned. Not doing that with any of the German vehicles.
I think it's a handsome SUV. Beautiful paint and leather and interesting lines, the way it catches the light. Very Japanese, origami-ish, but I think it works, at least from an aesthetic, design perspective. Even if it drives like a chickie meh mobile.
I work for Lexus. If anyone has additional questions about our products, I'm happy to answer. A few notes from this video specifically: 3:30 the door thunk is still solid, but I have noticed with the '20s that sometimes it likes to "bounce" back out ever so slightly instead of latching. I have a feeling they wanted the door to close so softly that they actually made it slightly too difficult to latch. 5:00 this interface operates much more smoothly now, and the touchpad by the armrest is much easier to use than the previous "mouse" style device that I found to be wonky 6:50 you actually CAN get a dual pane sunroof on this vehicle when you basically max it out on options 11:35 this third row is not comfortable (basically not even possible) for adults, but it is completely adequate for kids. That is the purpose of this car 14:20 the trunk is HUGE with the third row down, and still functional with the third row in use 15:30 these tail lights are actually part of the triple beam headlight package - these are NOT standard, and the base tail lights are identical to '16-'19
sorry but lexus is slow car 0-100 8 sec all europea car are faster and better tech then lexus. lexus is just a toyota with good looking and always the last one in tech
Lots of retirees and boomers trade in their Lexus LS/ES for one of these rigs (wheelchairs and walkers fit in back). Also, this is the car of choice for upper middle class soccer moms who hate minivans and who are done with their BMW X5's (too many service/repair trips). BTW, there's a rumor that the Japanese base car of the RX (Toyota Harrier) will be coming to the US to your Toyota dealers.
Very good review sir. We are entering the market, now in 2021, for the RX350. Want to finally "move on up" to Lexus after years of Nissan vehicles. This video will/does help us solidify our decision to go for this model! Thanks very much.
Genisis needs to sort out its lackluster dealer network, the service/buying experience and its resale values before it can steal any existing RX owners away from Lexus. The way I see it, the GV80 will do a great job at selling to potential RX buyers, but existing RX buyers are some of the most loyal in the industry and need a lot more to be swayed away.
Ryan C...Good point and certainly valid! It's a bit better in Canada, where you can order your Genesis online. Here in Korea the GV80 is on sale already, and I can tell you it's superior in every way to this rather archaic RX. I think you guys will really like it.
Kia/Hyundai need to fix their engines first. Even as recent as 2018 they are catching fire: www.consumeraffairs.com/news/hyundai-and-kia-recall-500000-cars-that-could-randomly-catch-fire-030419.html
Will Thorson 2022 rx will have the same power and quality with better efficiency and reliability, (10-15k cheaper) and they won’t be lagging behind in tech for long. And the gv80 is a $50k Bentayga
That was funny. Didn't even realize the new delicious shade of green until after you ate that piece of sushi wrap. After seeing the matching jacket, it was a wrap. Laughed for a good 30 seconds. You the man.
The whole point of an SUV for me is the higher driving position to see over the traffic ahead, to enjoy the view, and to enter and exit easily. But manufacturers, including Lexus, are reducing heights rather than increasing them.
It sells because it's inexpensive to buy and inexpensive to run compared to other superior mid-size premium CUVs. Nothing wrong with that, but the sales focus in the car industry is always in units, and not revenue or margin dollars, so it doesn't really show a clear picture when you compare cars with wildly different ATPs
Does the Hyundai palisade or telluride drive similar to Lexus RX? I think those two cars have much better interior than RX and have just as much safety tech. Thanks
bikephil Keep telling yourself that while they continuously improve reliability....A good indication of that would be how the Kia Forte has a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder with PORT INJECTION ONLY. In addition, I wouldn’t need to tell you the recalls and problems Toyota and Lexus has been having as of late would I? You keep underestimating Genesis and watch how they out beat their competition. Furthermore, I wouldn’t trust Toyota with their 8 speed trans problems and crack blocks, even Scotty Kilmer said new Toyota’s are trash...so your point doesn’t stand
I own the 2017 version. I agree with you - for as big as this vehicle is, the interior space is terrible. The CRV has significantly more cargo space, but is smaller overall. I think it's the slanted rear window and the high cargo floor that are the problem.
Nicholas R..I wonder what you base that on? This RX is just so OLD! It's a fwd biased vehicle with a CVT. Very small inside and a dash that came straight out of 2005. Nice? Yes. Luxurious? Sorry.
John Holst I base it on reliability, quality, comfort, utility and style. I will say it does not drive as sporty as a comparable European luxury suv, but then again, you don’t buy a Lexus for the performance or handling.
John Holst Toyota/Lexus builds cars with not the latest and greatest technology, but proved to be reliable technology only. Not the latest and greatest. Only if it’s proven to endure in the long run. That CVT comes only in the hybrid version.
A Lexus will last a long time. You do not have the same astronomical repair costs that you have with Mercedes or BMW. I could care less about stitching on the door. I want a car I can get 200,000 miles on with no issues.
I really like this but will still go with highlander, the difference in price is about 15k for me considering am getting the xle version. the better gas economy in the hybrid lexus will not be enough for the price difference even after 10 yrs
People love reliable, boring, and comfortable point A to B transportation. Auto enthusiast are a very small segment of the buying population so most manufacturers realize it’s not profitable to build exciting products for that small segment. It’s unfortunate but that’s life. No SUV/CUV for me. I actually enjoy driving dynamics and being engaged while driving. I am not ready to die yet
I love, love, LOVE that old style cruise control stalk. I wish more cars used that system. I despise buttons on the steering wheel spoke for cruise control. That old system is so easy to use without ever having to look at which button is which. End button is on/off, down to set or decrease speed, up to resume or increase speed, pull to cancel. Simple, easy and intuitive.
Nova...I guess it's whatever you get used to. In my car, I don't have to take my hand off the wheel to use my cruise. Far better than a stock. Toyota knows this as well, and that's why they don't use it their new vehicles. Audi used to use a stock too. Not great.
Sofyan is successfully missing the point of the RX. It's job is to provide a smooth, refined luxury experience, with crisp styling and optional hybrid power. Plus superior quality and resale for $40-60k. A winning combination. If you want more luxury, more features, or more power, you can get that elsewhere, for more money. but you give up things that make the RX the 2nd best-selling luxury car in America to the Tesla Model 3.
I think too much stitching on the interior would be overdoing it. As it is it’s nice and classy. Remote touch pad is not really too bad once you get used to it.
Lexus has been my favorite brand from a quality durability and reliability standpoint for a long king time. After owning 6 of them since 2004 i can say without question that the models that I purchased from 2004 to 2013 were by far the most solid feeling and sounding. They were the best made. They were all also made in Japan. My current 2019 was made in Kentucky and I immediately noticed a difference in quality solidity and overall workmanship. Its simply not the same. Thus was the first Lexus that I've ever owned that I thought the doors sounded flimsy and cheap when closed especially the front doors. Lots of shake and clatter when slammed shut. My 2013 with 157k on it sounded 5x more solid when I slammed the door shut. It really is something that Lexus should look into as a company as a quality control measure if they truly want to keep the reputation that they have worked so hard and have done such a stellar job at maintaining since 1989! They can do better. I think quality and solidity took a back seat to design/image change and edginess.
gabe villarreal It’s hard to teach Americans true Japanese dedication to doing things the right way, with discipline, and kaizen. We’ll see how these Canadian made RX’s go.
For the paddles to work you need to be in M mode by moving the shifter over. Also when you are in D you can use the paddles, but you can only do so by shifting down first. Then you will temporarily be in manual mode. It's handy if you want to gear down to pass someone or need to move quick. IMO the RX sells for a good reason, not everyone wants or needs an engaging fast sporty car/suv. The plush ride is fantastic for long drives and commutes. You arrive comfortable and not fatigued from the road. The bullet proof reliability and low maintenance is something no one would complain about. Sure the tech might be a bit dated, looks are subjective, but overall its something you can buy with full confidence. Again, not everything needs to be sporty. Majority of your driving is going to be everyday errands, work, school, travel, and for that smooth, quite, and refined is perfect.
You read my mind on what I wanted to know and the dated interior. Thanks for doing the drive first. Others spend way too much time on the exterior looks.
20 percent of the reason I watch this guys videos is solely because of his outtakes. The same reason why I watch Cooley's on C-net, due to his dry humor combined with my love for cars.

Sam in a market where almost all crossovers and suvs look the same and similar, we have to appreciate Lexus for standing out and looking bold.
Because Lexus is the one of the only reliable luxury brands now
You are correct. I believe if every luxury brand was reliable, I think Lexus would probably be out of business tho.
Acura needs to get that transmission issue together.
joshua38410 imagine if bmw was reliable
Feddy Teddy I would say my trust for the reliable luxury segment would be Lexus and Genesis

Great video, love the RX450h. I got the RX450h F sport last month and I love it now has car play and a touch screen!
22 inches of legroom in the third row lol. Someone at Lexus is on meth
Someone? There is more than one person who made mistakes with this vehicle

All of them are on meth, interior designers, exterior and infotainment

I'll take a slightly outdated and reliable Lexus over new tech and falling apart after 50k miles BMW, Chevy, Ford, ect.
My 2013 rx350 still no check engine
Lexus is known for reliability and no other luxury brand focuses on this which is disappointing.
Hey at least they got that paint color right! It’s beautiful

@@tommydo961 give me a break, if you were all so smart you would not have to move here. I find most asians (chinese) drive mercedes and BMW where I live, so much for your theory about being smart with reliability.. the RX is probably the most reliable luxury SUV you can buy.
This is a nice update. 2020 Fully Loaded F Sport is awesome :) even the 2019.
Lexus has are nice. And they blow you away when they're still nice 20 years later. And that color!
The #1 reason is reliability
Can a Toyota/Lexus fanboy ever refrain from uttering "reliability"?
@@JulezWinnfield it's true but that's not the main reason though alot of luxury cars are leased so reliability is irrelevant for those people
@@JulezWinnfield It's important and should be demanded from costumers so no...
@@austing4321
Reliability is important as are innovation, technology, and design aesthetics.
I liked the change up in the review. You made it work well
Soyfan I LOVE HOW WISE YOUR DRIVEWAY IS. Before the lockdown I started house hunting and a nice driveway is one of my requirements. BRAVO
I think it's a handsome SUV. Beautiful paint and leather and interesting lines, the way it catches the light. Very Japanese, origami-ish, but I think it works, at least from an aesthetic, design perspective. Even if it drives like a chickie meh mobile.
I love the new format, and congratulations on the purchase of the new home!
Lexus had the nerve to put climate controls in the third row as if anyone will be sitting back there.
People were complaining about practicality like they have to move buildings around, which forced Lexus to build a third row.
At least they have them lol
Yeah but it would be way more useful in the second row where the majority of this car’s passengers will actually sit
I work for Lexus. If anyone has additional questions about our products, I'm happy to answer.
A few notes from this video specifically:
3:30 the door thunk is still solid, but I have noticed with the '20s that sometimes it likes to "bounce" back out ever so slightly instead of latching. I have a feeling they wanted the door to close so softly that they actually made it slightly too difficult to latch.
5:00 this interface operates much more smoothly now, and the touchpad by the armrest is much easier to use than the previous "mouse" style device that I found to be wonky
6:50 you actually CAN get a dual pane sunroof on this vehicle when you basically max it out on options
11:35 this third row is not comfortable (basically not even possible) for adults, but it is completely adequate for kids. That is the purpose of this car
14:20 the trunk is HUGE with the third row down, and still functional with the third row in use
15:30 these tail lights are actually part of the triple beam headlight package - these are NOT standard, and the base tail lights are identical to '16-'19
**You can still get a Pano roof in the RX, Its optional. I had a pano roof in my 16' Rx Fsport. The first year of this new generation.
Michael Delgado Yes it is!!!
I like the driving portions first! Nice shakeup 👍🏼
I just love how lexus interior has possibly the least amount of gloss black panels in this segment.
That face tho when you eating those seaweed snacks omg 😂😂😂
I can NOT with you and those seaweed chips hahahahaha ha that was epic! Lol
I think reliability is a luxurious feature that non-Lexus brands are quick to dismiss.
Thank you for your honest review.
No doubt Lexus beats all European cars
sorry but lexus is slow car 0-100 8 sec all europea car are faster and better tech then lexus.
lexus is just a toyota with good looking and always the last one in tech
@@calindor19 that's why its popular and out sold German brand
What? Lexus beats European cars? Aside from reliability (which doesn't matter in brand new luxury cars) Lexus falls behind in every other area.
Reliability equals to old tech plain and simple.
gtb5 “don’t fix it if it’s not broken”
Does Toyota's TQM not contribute to reliability at all?
@@tajriantareq4464 it isn’t broken but the infotainment needs replacement
Lots of retirees and boomers trade in their Lexus LS/ES for one of these rigs (wheelchairs and walkers fit in back). Also, this is the car of choice for upper middle class soccer moms who hate minivans and who are done with their BMW X5's (too many service/repair trips). BTW, there's a rumor that the Japanese base car of the RX (Toyota Harrier) will be coming to the US to your Toyota dealers.
oldschool1 The New Harrier might be the Venza!
Heard it too Venza will be back!
Very good review sir. We are entering the market, now in 2021, for the RX350. Want to finally "move on up" to Lexus after years of Nissan vehicles. This video will/does help us solidify our decision to go for this model! Thanks very much.
OMG thank God it's finally a touch screen.
These vehicles have absolutely very comfortable ride.
Genesis is really giving Acura/Lexus a good fight.
Kia/Hyundai need to fix their engines first. Even as recent as 2018 they are catching fire: www.consumeraffairs.com/news/hyundai-and-kia-recall-500000-cars-that-could-randomly-catch-fire-030419.html
I love all your videos but this one was great with the leaf eating in the beginning.
Lexus and Genesis are gonna kill off the German brands.
W
Lol...no they won't. The x5 and the Q7 says otherwise. Look at the numbers.
Will Thorson 2022 rx will have the same power and quality with better efficiency and reliability, (10-15k cheaper) and they won’t be lagging behind in tech for long. And the gv80 is a $50k Bentayga

@@MundoOval literally only brainwashed people think that german cars are the best? How can something be the best if it doesn't hold up over time?
That was funny. Didn't even realize the new delicious shade of green until after you ate that piece of sushi wrap. After seeing the matching jacket, it was a wrap. Laughed for a good 30 seconds. You the man.
The Seedweed chips lol 😂 hilarious. I have a 2016 RX350. Interior looks exactly the same. Love my SUV. Great and Reliable.
The whole point of an SUV for me is the higher driving position to see over the traffic ahead, to enjoy the view, and to enter and exit easily. But manufacturers, including Lexus, are reducing heights rather than increasing them.
The 2020 rx-f sport actually has a panoramic sunroof. I saw a review from "The straight pipes" that had one .
Suave Munoz Yes it’s available!!!
I have the F-Sport with a pano roof.
Best Luxury brand. Loving my RC-F 2017. Reliable and great performance with new tech.
I love how you blurred the speedo at 7:33. Hehe
I could be wrong but with lexus cvts the paddles only work when the transmission is in manual mode.
I think the current model is beautiful. Love the green as well!
RX has pano sunroof. It's an option like 1k extra. Included on high trims. My 17 fsport has it
Thank you for another great review. Northern Virginia is so beautiful! No dandelions in that lawn! :)
Yes finally this opening was better than "Throttle H." Openings..yes serious man👍🏾.. Loved it!
I just love your reviews. Keep up the great work.
I love the traditional shifters, all the push buttons, turn knobs, joystick type shifters are just ugly and gimmicky
Paddle shifters in a RX? I'm sure that's a feature that the soccer moms of the world are really clamoring for...
I agree
Does the Hyundai palisade or telluride drive similar to Lexus RX? I think those two cars have much better interior than RX and have just as much safety tech. Thanks
We found they did, the Lexus may have slightly cushier seats but the Hyundai and Kia twins make it tough to justify spending more for the Lexus.
bikephil Keep telling yourself that while they continuously improve reliability....A good indication of that would be how the Kia Forte has a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder with PORT INJECTION ONLY.
I actually heard that the Lincoln MKX (nautilus) has an even quieter interior and rides just as nice!
Also just as dated interior wise .. I think buying used would be best bet. I wouldn't recommend buying 7+ year old interior for todays money. 😃
It just seem quieter because it's broken down in the driveway or on the side of the road.
mrsj1417 hahaha
Lincoln did a good job on refreshing the MKX, now Nautilus. But it can't match an RX build quality, reliability, and resale.
The Lincoln is probably better but the RX will outlast it by decades!
Soft is great, just let me relax with confidence. That's why it sells.
I like the wood on the steering wheel, why dont people like wood on cars anymore??? it makes it 10 times more fancier 🥺
Some car manufacturers found out that wooden steering wheel is more slippery than the leather one which causes accidents..
Rigoberto Garza I agree. I love the wood steering wheel on my RX
I own the 2017 version. I agree with you - for as big as this vehicle is, the interior space is terrible. The CRV has significantly more cargo space, but is smaller overall. I think it's the slanted rear window and the high cargo floor that are the problem.
There's no way a CRV has a bigger boot/trunk than an RXL with the third row seats down!
Genesis will soon be coming for Lexus spot in the luxury segment. They have better interior quality to me.
but much more expensive.
I dig the different format and the creative camera angles!
That jacket looks pretty cool! Where can I get one haha
I have a relative in Florida with a lexus rx400h with front wheel drive and the seats were plush with soft touch dashboard and door panels.
In my opinion, the Lexus RX is the best luxury suv you can buy.
Raschaud Farmer That Mazda won’t last even half of the RXs life span.
Stas Glory Accurate and the Mazda is also not as luxurious
Loved the format of the video!
A Lexus will last a long time. You do not have the same astronomical repair costs that you have with Mercedes or BMW. I could care less about stitching on the door. I want a car I can get 200,000 miles on with no issues.
Thx for the review but I believe that you guys did a review on the RXL before....try doing the RX F-Sport next time.👍🏽
I really like this but will still go with highlander, the difference in price is about 15k for me considering am getting the xle version. the better gas economy in the hybrid lexus will not be enough for the price difference even after 10 yrs

My man got that seaweed snack going! YES!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Not great.
I agree. Why fix what isn’t broke? It’s the epitome of simple, reliable, intuitive.
Correct me if i am wrong but i think you can use the steering wheel controls to navigate the infotainment now
I actually like the body style, but would love in a different color. Maybe a charcoal color!

I totally agree, the Lexus RX looks like a decade old interior design.
John Boss I drive a 2010 RX and the interiors do not look the same to me

20 percent of the reason I watch this guys videos is solely because of his outtakes. The same reason why I watch Cooley's on C-net, due to his dry humor combined with my love for cars.
