The lack of physicality is why Lebron has been able to keep playing this long at the level he’s playing. That’s why the comparisons to Kareem and MJ don’t match up!

The traditional bigs not being in the driving lanes, & the shooters all on the 3 point lines so help defense can’t arrive fast, are just as important, to inflate his career stats.

I came up hooping in the mid 80’s… in Baltimore, back when Dunbar High School, Calvert Hall, Mount Saint Joseph, Cardinal Gibbons, Southwestern, Walbrook, Lake Clifton… Southern, were producing high level D-1 guys and many professional guys.
In High School, hooped against so many great players, and the game was physical… Sam Cassell, Rick Fox(Basketball camp) were just a few of the guys I hooped against …
Even after High School, I hooped in many leagues with guys who were former D-1 players and guys who played overseas… I only saw playing time because I played defense (I was a skinny 6’4 wing) and even in High School, the game was PHYSICALLY demanding… It’s different when you chasing a Sam Cassell off screens and the screeners are the 6’10 Dozier twins who in high school were built like Antonio and Dale Davis. Lol. Yeah many a times I felt like I ran into a wall… I think now, that had I come up in this era… I would’ve had a shot at playing beyond high school (I did try to walk on in college…but was the next to last cut, a kid named Melvin Swan made it over me, because he was … more physical, I was around 190 at the time, Melvin, same height, but was a chiseled 215) anyway my point is todays game is soft, and physicality made the game far more difficult.

The clip you played of BJ Armstrong was posted on an IG account, and there were so many people(young fans) who defended the game and the analytics… of the 3pt shot. It was many arguments in the comment section … lol..
Honestly I try to watch, but I can’t watch a game from start to finish… because it is boring…
What is not spoken about is that all the old school coaches are now gone, on all levels… the new coaches are all on board with the modern analytics game. They scout and recruit players based on these concepts… which lets me know, that old school game ain’t coming back…
It will take a brave coach, who wins with an old school approach, wins consistently, for NBA teams and executives to change course.
Otherwise, what we are seeing will continue for the foreseeable future…
And again the young generation loves it… the next generation will emulate this generation and so on and so forth

~ the elimination of positions is also a huge issue… look at the power forward position… guys are relatively the same height as in previous era’s but new age “power forwards” are smaller in build, and are defacto guards, set screens, and attempt to get down hill for one of the 3 options you mentioned ~ kick to corner for three, layup/dunk, go to free throw line.. Guys don’t even matchup anymore.

It all started with David Stern when he took away hand checking and wanted that European style bullshit. Ever since then no defense ruined the game and Adam Silver refused to do anything about it because he thinks scoring 270 points is a great product. Now look what we have, a bunch of 3 point shooting, a joke of an All Star game and players that take nights off whenever the hell they want to. Let's start by bringing back hand checking and some physicality. The new TV money still going to come and maybe the ratings will go up like they was in the 90s or at least some kind of resemblance especially since games are coming back to NBC and I know they don't want to aquire that bullshit that's been presented for the last 20 years.

I dont wanna see some goofy 7fter like giannai walk the ball up. Pgs getting the ball over, while under pressure is an art form and a skill. Also remove the corner 3, have the three point line run out of bounds, instead of making that turn to leave space for the corner 3. Now u dont have a million corner 3s

Man Down. Wht I miss about basketball is that, system vs system thing. The Triangle vs the pick and roll, Bulls vs Jazz, you know motion offense with Reggie or the physical defense minded systems with the knicks the pistons, the Heat. Then constant ball movement with the Show time Lakers. Now everyone plays like Golden State and everyone shoots an absurd amount of 3’s like Curry even LeBron does it. The NBA is not good anymore. It’s crazy how everyone was up in arms about how CC was gettin hard fouls and most times no call or a common foul, that’s how the NBA was back then! It was physical. The WNBA has exposed the NBA on how soft the league is now.

It is the imagination and creativity of the players that made the NBA, in my opinion. That’s what drew the numbers. First was the adoption of the dunk, then the finger rolls, the fadeaway jumpers, the no-look passes and the switch-the-hands-in-midair layups. All of this were incorporated into a system-based game. If it now becomes only system and analytics based it becomes bland and unwatchable. BJ is right in my opinion. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

All them guys are still under some kind of control because I believe the former players and current players could’ve been put a stop to a lot of this non sense but their all puppets outside of a few anomalies (kyrie, Jaylen Brown, and etc). The NBA has put money/entertainment over player development & competition and it’s sad. Just my opinion. How can you teach a younger generation of kids the game when they’re watching bad basketball which they can’t play at any level except the nba which only a small percentage makes.
