I loved this so much that I cannot think some reason of why you have many dislikes... to be honest I don't care about those but makes me wonder. Excellent job!
Thanks Zamir! I think its just too random. This was just a camera test and a practice for us. So thats why there is no real story behind this. But someday i will make a short film and i will come back to these kind of scenes for sure. BTW awesome short films on your channel! Really fun stuff you got there :D And nice VFX work!
Lintaro Hopf Oh! but it's really great, and indeed it was very immersive, I felt like if I was there, I loved it so much that I subscribed to continue see more of your work. How cool you want to do a short film, I know it will be great :) And thank you so much for taking time in checking my stuff, and indeed almost all the videos I've done are to experiment new techniques, that's why there isn't really a story in almost all... but thank you so so much! :D BTW, maybe you'd like to take a look at my new video I uploaded the last friday, it was also kinda experimenting because some things are out of focus, but I also took inspiration in the revenant for the score... also it was all practical effects, except the ending, but you'll see... Thank you! :D
+Martino422 i guess you can say i cheated a bit... i applied a preset from the Magic Bullet Suite. It has some film imitation presets and i tweaked it a little bit. But yes, i desaturated the footage a bit. I have a Magic Bullet suite Film preset comparison video on my channel, you can check it out if your are more interested in the presets i use :)
Cristian Dragomir Sorry, I'm not sure I've understand what you said. Seems there's a lot of cyan in these images, that's right. I'd like to know how the director has got this effect. Post-production? Some lenses put in front of the camera? I don't know, I'm asking. Sorry if I don't understand.
Yes the image has a slight cyan tone in it. I just used a film preset from magic bullet (magic bullet film) and tweaked the settings a bit. But i also shot in S-Log 2 or 3 (im not sure) so the image was really flat and bluish in the beginning. It was also an overcast day.
This is awesome!!!! I enjoyed the short. I am laughing because your friend refused to drink that water. lol... In either case, this is great footage and I am hoping that the Fs5 will drop in price and now I have a new idea for shooting. Meaning... shooting shorts... I am not much of a nature buff so no in the woods stuff for me... lol....
lol... Thanks for the feedback...Hmmmm.... Depending on the features, I might have to pony up for the FS5 mark 2. Of course, it will be around this time December 2017 b4 I would have 7 grand to throw at a camera, but we'll see... I have seen stranger things happen. lol....
I wouldn't say the cold WB is the main factor for the look of The Revenant. It's a mix between muted colors and a colder WB. Unfortunately I dont temember my WB settings. It was already a bit dark and cold so my guess is it was between 5500-6500 K.
Lintaro Hopf there is no doubt a comprehensive color grade behind it although from watching the revenant behind the scenes film I can see the white balance is anywhere from 3900k-4300k and with those kelvin temperatures at any time of the day it will be more on the cold side. These are great temperatures because they can enhance the blue while maintaining the warm light coming from all fire sources that are around 2000k. The revenant doesn't just take advantage of blue hour but the blue looks more on the teal side to me, and considering the Alexa's tint is more on the green rather than magenta side of tint this makes sense. All in all the Alexa has a beautiful sensor and a beautiful color science and I couldn't imagine the revenant had it been shot on something else.
oh yeah you are absolutely right about that. I think I cannot remember my WB settings because I was shooting in S-Log 3 and WB changes aren't really adjustable with the FS5 then. It must have been just dayligth WB and the rest was done with Magic Bullet in premiere pro. Yes, the Alexa was perfect for the Revenant. I remember sitting in the theater with my eyes having orgasms the hole time lol
lol well I thought you did a great job for a quick little project! and yes the revenant was amazing in IMAX. I think one thing they did right is not reveal anything in the trailer so when I watched the film itself it was like watching it for the first time. And the soundtrack was incredible. I can't stop listening to The Revenant Main Theme.
+Hel Product I used the samyang 14mm T3.1(its like f2.8) cine lens. I can't remember the exact apature i used but it should be around 2.8-3.5 since it was quite dark outside. What is the 16mm lens you are talking about? I think the field of view in 'The Revenant' is a bit wider than my 14mm. But its really close.
+Hel Product yes you are right. I recently discovered a channel that has a video about the cinematography from 'the revenant' on it. It's 'cinematography database'. Awesome dude and really informational stuff!
Lintaro Hopf bin sehr zufrieden macht schöne Aufnahmen und hat nen geilen focusring.Hole mir noch das 50mm vdslr dann bin ich komplett und ready für neue Projekte
I like this. Good job. Only thing I had problem was that when he drank the water, his lip wasn't wet... I know he didn't want drink that nasty water, but since it wasn't wet, my mind went to well he really didn't drink it. But good job.
Cameras are GREAT, The Montage , Camera Directing ... everyThing is Perfect , but .... WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS ... why Waste Your Time Making This , while You Can Make a Professional Movie With These Professional Tools and Work ...
+ACH-DON VEVO you have a good point here! This was just a test shoot to see how the camera (sony fs5) works with the ronin stabilizer. Since i shoot more commercial work there is not much time right now to shoot full movie projects... but i'm working on it! Thanks for your comment!
Hey ! Nice colors !
Oops the Ronin stand at 1:15 ^^
I've never noticed this before haha! Good eye

At 0:20 to 0:47, when he was shooting behind the scenes, did he have a GoPro On a Gimbal? Because that looked so cool!
Love it! :)
+conradstudios thank you! Great work on your channel! :)
You nailed it. Jesus.
Hi! Was this shot internal 4K? Did you add any sharpening in post?
Great footage! Really nice 👍👍👍
What fps did you shoot this in?
I think the video is wonderful, but if you want to really emulate Emmanuel lubezki’s style, try closing down the aperture for a deeper depth of field.
What kind of color correction did you do on this video? Desaturation? More green? :-)
+Martino422 i guess you can say i cheated a bit... i applied a preset from the Magic Bullet Suite. It has some film imitation presets and i tweaked it a little bit. Martino422 any filters? i see a lot of cyan as filter... it is right?

haha, good catch! I heard the FS5 mark 2 or something will come out soon so we can expect a prize drop. It's a nice camera indeed.

Do you find that the cold white balance has a lot to do with the look from the revelation? Also what the was white balance

You guys did good what wide lens did you use and at what focal length
Thanks chinelo! his was all shot on a 14mm cine lens from samyang/rokinon.
What Aperture on this? I have a 16mm 2.8 and i think his shoot is very similar that "The revenant" or "birdman".
+Hel Product I used the samyang 14mm T3.1(its like f2.8) cine lens. I can't remember the exact apature i used but it should be around 2.8-3.5 since it was quite dark outside. +Lintaro Hopf I use a canon lense, and i make some research and he used lenses between 12mm to a 21mm
+Hel Product yes you are right. I recently discovered a channel that has a video about the cinematography from 'the revenant' on it. It's 'cinematography database'. Awesome dude and really informational stuff!
What camera is on the phantom and how did you get it on looks like an x5
It was just a GoPro Hero 4 Black i think. Shot in flat profile and graded to match the footage
Yo did you pull the focus by yourself?
we prefocused to an area and left it there!
Looks great. What 14 mm lens did you use?
+Gert Henriksen I used the samyang 14mm cine lens. It has a bit of a distortion but othert than that its a nice lens.
What camera and gimbal did you use?
+Rodrigo Valencia i used the Sony Fs5 with the DJI Ronin for this shoot.

Lintaro Hopf aaH i See Now ,
Anyway That's Professional Filming , and i Hope To See a Movie Project By You Soon.
Great! But the camera movement is fast, and too many angles. Great job mate!
Darken highlights and shadows and better audio and you'll be halfway there lol
Yes that would work! We just used the on board mic on this...
