So I guess it is a memory thing with all the sprites before, namely the two Klampons and Squitter
For the first point, I always thought that the map was implied to be what you find in the ship during the first level (where it outlines the basic story) and the circles are simply the path from DK Island to Crocodile Isle, since it a traditional treasure map (that presumably belonged to the Kremlings).

Animal buddies and instruments color palettes share the same space in memory. If the animal buddy isn't unloaded from memory when the instruments appear, those are painted using the animal buddy color palette. Also, you don't need DK Coins to get 102%, they are only for Cranky's Video Game Heroes section.
I have a theory that Kong Island was actually colonized by the original DK. Krocodile Isle was a synthetic made island from all logic, particularly the fact the island blows up and sinks. That, and the temple of Kremling origin, meaning their presence predates the Kongs, the island looks like the current DK so it was obviously carved out, and the Kremling head indicating a previous encounter by Cranky, it all makes sense.
Golden instruments are clearly a color glitch, the same can be observed on DKC1 when people mess up with Ramby, the kongs might even color change, or Ramby's sprite can turn into a white DK clone. :)
It probably is, but these gold colors really compliment the instruments. None of the pallette swap glitches in the first game look as natural that I can recall.
The thing with the color changing golden instruments was really neat! Played this game a lot and I never heard anything about that. I'm really curious about that.
The real mystery is how did two elderly Kongs get all those museums and schools smack-dab in Crocodile Island, and how come the Kremlings apparently didn't care and allowed it to happen. Is Wrinkly teaching the Kremling kids or what? Also, what's up with the Gloomy Gulch manor? The place is full of books and Kremlings don't strike me as the reading type, so who lived there? Who was Cackle and why does he haunt the place?
That 75x Krem Koin is _classic_ "cheat code" material, and I never knew it before. Makes me nostalgic for those old secrets in the days before we could readily look em all up online
Yeah, I think it was left in to allow the developers to test out the secret boss and not removed; this makes me think that the lost world was more of a "last minute addition", as in not part of the original plan, or was the last thing developed in the game.
check this out: In Donkey Kong (original), Donkey Kong is mad at Mario because they are using the Kongs as labor for construction. Mario is helping build something on DK Island There is only one steel constructed building on DK Island: Krem Co. therefore, Mario helped build Krem Co
10:08 - The "One Koin to Rule Them All" can be collected after you've spent all 75 in the game too, so you can finish the game with your Koins being 75 instead of 0. That's how I've always preferred to do it. I learned about this cheat by stumbling across it one day just mucking around in the level, and after it appeared, I looked up what it was about. Was kinda funny to run into it by accident 😄
Menu Map: That's really interesting. Those temples were probably the Kremling's original home, before most of the Kremling factions migrated elsewhere (with King K Rool's faction staying on DK Island). That map could have been the map Kaptain K Rool used to discover the power on Krocodile Island. Golden Instruments: That is simply a palette error. The game seems to switch some colors of the palette based on certain events. If you destroy the animal buddy (with the sign or a bottomless pit), or just ditch him earlier in the level, that error doesn't happen. DK Coins: I always thought it was strange that Cranky somehow found the Lost World and hid some DK Coins there. But if the Kremlings originally stole them long ago, and hid them all over the island, that makes perfect sense. The Most Powerful Animal Buddy: Assuming the "Lava" in Lava Lagoon is actually lava ..... the game devs obviously don't know how Lava works then. One does NOT simply cool down Lava into water with a safe temperature to swim in. One cools down Lava into solid black rock. I just assumed the Lava in that level was just really hot boiling water. Cooling that down into water you could swim in would make sense. And let's not talk about most of the enemies in that level. Clapper cools down the "water", then you see critters everywhere, in a space that was lava/boiling water mere seconds ago. That level is whack dude.
I never noticed the thing with the map before. That is very mysterious, indeed! Uncle Kong looks a lot like Bluster from the cartoon series. I'm sure that's where thy got the concept from. This video brought up a lot of interesting observations!

6:01 Rare predicted the Nintendo museum lol I bet cranky had to make some kremling customers scram after they unplugged and plugged in the controller over and over because they heard the windows sound 😂
DKC 2 along with Conker's BFD is not only one of my favorite Rare games but one of my favorite games of all time. I just love how it goes much further than DKC1. In a way you could argue that DKC 2 is the Terminator 2 of video game sequels, superior to the original. I also love the game's pirate adventure theme and that actually got me interested in pirate stuff. I remember getting my copy of DKC 2 on Christmas 1995 but of course I also got my copy of DKC 1 because Id just gotten my first SNES. I also got with them Yoshi's Island and Warios Woods. Also aside from the Gangplank Galleon my favorite areas of DKC 2 include Krazy Kremland, Gloomy Gulch and the Lost World. The music in the game is also some of the best too. Really gets you in the mood. When this game came out Rare were definitely on their way up as a great gaming company. I also got the game's novelization Rescue on Crocodile Isle but I also got the other DKC novelizations too. Aside from space stuff Rare must also be fascinated with pirates and other nautical stuff too because there's the lagoon area in Diddy Kong Racing, Treasure Trove Cove in Banjo Kazooie, the villa and Pelagic II levels in Perfect Dark and there's also their game Sea of Thieves. So I therefore conclude that while many consider DKC 1 the game that started Rare's growth and popularity I personally think DKC 2 is the one that truly began it.
Rare has always had a thing for pirates. Banjo started as a pirate game (project dream). And look at them now with sea of thieves! It’s definitely a thing they kept putting in their games!
This game endlessly frustrated me as a kid, but I couldn't stop playing it. The music and visuals were just too alluring! Edit: 3:40 gotta love that Rare SNES electric guitar!
I didn't know about the gold instruments, and such. However, you are wrong about the DK coins, they aren't required to access the true ending, and don't even add to your game percentage. They're completely optional and only effect the "Video Game Heroes" segment of the ending. Answering all of Swanky Kong's trivia minigames will get you 102% though.
Also wrong. You don't need to answer even one of Swanky's questions to get 102%, all you need to do is visit Swanky at least once to get his 1%, same as with Cranky, Wrinky and Funky.
@@chrisbeach423 I really appreciate that!! Haha It’s a legitimate comment I receive all the time. If I had a dollar for everytime someone said something along the lines of So underrated! How do you not have way more subs?!
It's weird since I have seen it happen on Topsail Trouble and they look the same, even though Rattly uses a different palette (and also is much much earlier in the level).
2:05 It's a pallete swap glitch, where a pallete for one sprite is incorrectly applied to a different sprite. I've gotten a similar thing to happen in Jungle Jinx, where the end of level target turns orange instead of blue. I dont exactly kow how I get it to work, though.
If you want to ignore the Mario Karts and Smash, there's a more indirect connection through Mario: In Super Mario RPG, you can find Link in one of the beds in Rosa Inn, in Rosetown. I guess that's specifically a Kruncha, Krusha's DKC2 variant. Neither of our heroes in this game can defeat them except by projectile attacks... including throwing the other Kong. Did Cranky somehow defeat and decapitate this guy? Or did someone else sell it to him?
I recently played through DKC 1-3 again and they’re just so good! Love your videos, my man. RUclips is so fucked, though. The algorithm is broken and is refusing to connect you to the intended audience imo. It’s too busy feeding them hawk tuah shit and brain rot fuel. I feel like if it could connect you to people who want to see these videos a little better, you’d likely have a lot more subscribers. Seemingly, not much you can do other than have a good attitude and keep crushing it until the algorithm wakes up.
Thanks so much! I will keep chugging away! My videos thankfully perform pretty well! I just need to encourage people to like and subscribe to help support me! I’d love to do this full time and put out videos more often! The dream!!
Connections between video games can only be made from the time. Attempting to connect Sonic the Hedgehog with Mario universe in any discussion during the 90's, then using the Olympic Games, is an utterly disingenuous argument. Rare was making fun of Sonic and Sega with those shoes...
I don’t understand your first sentence. Connections can be made constantly and in future installments. But it’s not that serious I was just creating a discussion about it.
Fantastic video mate!!!🏆 This game alongside Banjo Kazooie are my equal fave video game/s of all time!!! Great video!!!🏆 Pretty sure you can get 102% file percentage with only 39 DK Hero coins, I wonder if you get the ending after beating K. Rool in the Krocodile Kore within the Lost World with only 39 Hero coins/DK coins out of all 40 in the SNES version. I wonder. From memory I saw a God speedrunner of the game say something about how you don't need all 40 DK coins to beat the game but speedrunners in their community either do and/or require them to. I don't remember which speedrunner said it but they are God level skill! Likely hold or held WRs in speedrunning this game the person speaking about it. From memory I tested their claim months or a year back and if I recall correctly, only 39 DK Coins/Hero Coins are required to get 102% on the save file. I wonder if you'd get the ending cinema from beating Krocodile Kore in the Lost World, I don't remember to be honest. Only tested this once. Wasn't looking for this but rather the file percentage stat, only need 39 DK Coins NOT 40 for 102% on SNES game IF I recall correctly! Enjoyed the video mate!!!👍🏻 Congrats on your high quality and AWESOME content!!!🏆
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words! And actually I have seen people beat it with 39 coins. Apparently they aren’t needed for the true ending like I stated but just for the Cranky cut scene for the video game awards. But still! Gotta collect em all!
@jiggylookback most welcome mate!!!🏆 I keep hearing true ending and to be honest, I still need to learn what that means despite being a veteran of the game for many, many, many years playing it on and off since the 90s, absolutely love this game SO MUCH!!! Not sure if "true ending" is any% completion or 102% completion even though I submitted a speedrun to 102% category I forget what true ending means. Off topic, I achieved 2hrs and 2mins in game time speedrun single segment on PAL SNES. Unfortunately, I didn't time real time attack that run but timed real time attack on a 2hrs and 4min in game time run single segment. My RTA was something like 2hrs and 26mins for 102% when scoring my slightly not best 2hrs and 4mins in game time for 102% single segment, don't remember seconds or milliseconds for real time attack with 2hrs and 4mins. You're welcome for the kind words, I watched some of your play for Banjo Tooie, DK64 and Diddy Kong Racing. In particular navigating the Haunted Maze (not sure of the room's exact name. It's where the teeth are on the sides of the snake like path and it's very dark), in Witchy World and the DK arcade for the Golden Banana and then the Nintendo Coin prizes were superbly well executed by you mate! There were other things too but I have trouble focusing for long periods of time these days so watched small amounts of your play throughs despite them being good as I have trouble spending lots of time focusing at once which has been the case for the last maybe 4-5years now but prior you could get me to focus on something for hours straight. Your gaming skills are super impressive mate!!! As are your RUclips content!!!🏆
@ thank you my friend! On my streams people were pointing out how great I did on the difficult golden bananas in dk64. What can I say…I played these games religiously lol
I can create a golden Krooka in that exact palette color doing a glitch with an invisible object from the beetle in the begining of Artic Abyss level, but the color only change theres nothing else to do with it. so I guess thats just the game hues glitching on the radio instance
@@juniorduncan8316 thank you so much for noticing!! Fun fact. I use only music from the game and each corresponding mystery is related to the track playing. Example Cranky’s Museum is the Cranky’s Museum theme! I do that in all my videos and no one has ever said anything about the music. Thank you!!
Some of the speculation is a bit of a stretch lol I’m pretty sure this game has more or less been turned inside out ever since speed running became popular.
Trying to offer more to the world than "because that is how the game was designed". Just trying to think deeper than that and see if the game lore can explain things away. I realize that it isn't always everyone's cup of tea, but I find it fun to speculate like that.
Broski RUclips somehow unsubbed me or I dun goofed but IM BACK BAYBEE. Edit; There was playground myth back in the 90s like mew under the truck with the cave above millstone mayhem. Kids would say there was a secret treasure horde there. That you had to do a button input like the warp from world 1 to 3
On the map, that’s not a connecting line. It’s where the map was folded horizontally. The gold instruments are just a glitch. It’s similar to the silver DK glitch involving Rambi in the first game.
Maybe a bit young to truly know or maybe you wanted to come up with your own lore, but the Sonic and Earthworm Jim parts are referenced because they’re disses to the franchises since they’re next to the garbage can . Earthworm Jim’s head had an arrow through DKs head… guess the devs of that team didn’t like DK & Rare. Sonic being part of Sega was direct competition to Nintendo… and further down the rabbit hole, Sonic 3 was released the same year as Donkey Kong Country in 1994, and nearly beat that game and sega beat Nintendo in being the top game/console for that year. Made Nintendo salty big time for sure.
@@vivelecorn I’m not too young 🤣. I understand it’s just a developer joke on the surface, but I like showing the connection was reciprocated. I like to overthink and dive deeper on things and get creative with it rather than just say this is blue because the developer wanted it to be you know?

In Donkey Kong (original), Donkey Kong is mad at Mario because they are using the Kongs as labor for construction. Mario is helping build something on DK Island
There is only one steel constructed building on DK Island: Krem Co.
therefore, Mario helped build Krem Co
But why would it be for the Kremlings and not the Kongs?
@@jiggylookback I don't know. The Kremlings apparently wanted a factory on Kong Island. It is named "Krem Co" and not "Kong Co", after all.
Christmas time baby. Snes and donkey Kong country trilogy again
Doesn't the brid shoots coconuts ? 🤔
Receiving this game for birthday was a great memory, was that 93, 94? Damnit I'm old...
Nope it’s eggs based on looks. I could be wrong but I don’t think they’re coconuts
The level is whack. Lol.
In the manual it totally says Cranky hid the coins across the island himself. 😬
That last one blew my wig off
@4:55 Another cool thing about Link is that in Link's Awakening (GB), there were Chain Chomps and Goombas as enemies.
@@Xboxwiistation yeeesssss it’s awesome
I never noticed the thing with the map before. That is very mysterious, indeed! Uncle Kong looks a lot like Bluster from the cartoon series. I'm sure that's where thy got the concept from. This video brought up a lot of interesting observations!
Awesome tip at the end !
I finished replaying DKC2 yesterday and regretted not being able to unlock all of the lost world levels.
Going back to it then, merry Donkey Kong December everyone !
Heck yeah! Merry DK December haha
I've thought of making an online public comic but, I am so terminal offline an anti technology, My idea was using cut characters across video games and Funny PizzaLand
I always learn new things from your vids. Like I said, this one holds a special place in my heart. Keep up the good work!
This video was also cool, and now I know some interesting facts and mysteries of the second Donkey Kong Country game.
For the lost world level jungle jinx, crankys tip was when you get about half say look back and see what youve done.
I never understood what this meant
I need to look into this…
halfway*
Holy shit! So our first 3D-ish render of Link was in DKC2? Totally forgot about this.
@@matthewallen1957 pretty much!
I've been trying to replicate the golden boom box for years, I started to think it was a fever dream
Oh no…it’s there! Surprisingly so easy to do!
6:01 Rare predicted the Nintendo museum lol I bet cranky had to make some kremling customers scram after they unplugged and plugged in the controller over and over because they heard the windows sound 😂
It was Diddy kongs quest. Then supernaturally altered to diddys Kong quest. Back to the future style
4:07 genuinely never even knew Link appeared here since I’ve always had more than 19 DK coins by the end of the game. Crazy stuff
It’s pretty cool!
It’s definitely a thing they kept putting in their games!
ooooh nice donkey kong december present!
One of the greatest games of monke kind!
This game endlessly frustrated me as a kid, but I couldn't stop playing it. The music and visuals were just too alluring!
Edit: 3:40 gotta love that Rare SNES electric guitar!
Heck yeah!
Oh my bad!!
Also wrong. You don't need to answer even one of Swanky's questions to get 102%, all you need to do is visit Swanky at least once to get his 1%, same as with Cranky, Wrinky and Funky.
6:30 the llama in dk64 also had the ability to turn lava into water!
Very true!!
This was such a great video. Surprisingly, I’ve never heard of Uncle Kong, but he’s definitely Swanky’s father.
My favourite game of the series.
You don't need the DK coins for the extra ending. That is earned just for beating K Rool in the Lost world.
@@clayton_games thank you. I was corrected :P appreciate it tho!
10:51 nobody's gonna talk about the DKC3 map on the table?
Im loving your videos man. You are bringing these bangers about old school RARE games. I am subscribing so you won’t be “underrated” anymore 😂
@@chrisbeach423 I really appreciate that!! Haha
It’s a legitimate comment I receive all the time. If I had a dollar for everytime someone said something along the lines of
So underrated! How do you not have way more subs?!
The instruments thing is probably connected to Squitter’s palette. You can really tell by looking at Dixie’s guitar.
@@Tonberry2k probably! Somehow you can palette swap sometimes. I definitely love how that boombox looks. Straight golden!
It's weird since I have seen it happen on Topsail Trouble and they look the same, even though Rattly uses a different palette (and also is much much earlier in the level).
Thanks for that Kremcoin secret at the end!
No problem! It’s a cool little cheat
Was Uncle Kong named Uncle at birth? If so, his parent Kongs had some unusual life goals in mind for him.
Lmao he’s gonna be a great uncle someday
6:00 I like how the controller is bigger than the games lol
some cool lore here
2:05 It's a pallete swap glitch, where a pallete for one sprite is incorrectly applied to a different sprite. I've gotten a similar thing to happen in Jungle Jinx, where the end of level target turns orange instead of blue. I dont exactly kow how I get it to work, though.
Ahh interesting!! Be cool if we could figure out more triggers!
I like this route. Does Kranky have a method of defeating these things? Maybe his canes are actually dual blades in this. Haha
I always thought he spits out peanuts, not eggs. Hmm
As far as I could tell it was eggs.
Wow, never knew about the golden instruments
Yeah it’s pretty bizarre but consistent and reproducible pretty easy!
The dream!!
Great video, loved it.
Idk why it would say "Treasure" becaue that's where DK is held. Dk isnt treasure.
@@christopherbottger he is in my eyes ❤️
Your instrument is using Squitter's pallate
Holy shit I never knew about the max krem coin cheat/Easter egg. That’s crazy!
Right?!
I had no idea about the golden instruments. I feel like I’ve heard about the maxed out kremcoins year ago[?)
I think DK2 is the best in the series!
That coin at the end has “how to unlock Luigi in Mario 64” odd instructions but hey, it worked
So funny thing about cranky's museum is in the Japanese version the controller is a super famicom controller
I love that detail!
Great work as always dude. Love dk2. Crazy how much shit on this game i still didnt know
Right?! Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic video mate!!!🏆
This game alongside Banjo Kazooie are my equal fave video game/s of all time!!!
Great video!!!🏆
Pretty sure you can get 102% file percentage with only 39 DK Hero coins, I wonder if you get the ending after beating K.
Enjoyed the video mate!!!👍🏻
Congrats on your high quality and AWESOME content!!!🏆
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words! And actually I have seen people beat it with 39 coins.
Apparently they aren’t needed for the true ending like I stated but just for the Cranky cut scene for the video game awards. But still! Gotta collect em all!
@jiggylookback most welcome mate!!!🏆
I keep hearing true ending and to be honest, I still need to learn what that means despite being a veteran of the game for many, many, many years playing it on and off since the 90s, absolutely love this game SO MUCH!!!
@@jiggylookback nicely done!!!🏆
I can create a golden Krooka in that exact palette color doing a glitch with an invisible object from the beetle in the begining of Artic Abyss level, but the color only change theres nothing else to do with it. so I guess thats just the game hues glitching on the radio instance
Very cool!!
Great use of the music!!!!!!
Thank you!!
last one, i didn’t know
Did Diddy and Dixie ever get the smell of lizard piss out of their clothes
I don’t think so
No mention of the mystery lone banana at the start of Screech's Sprint?
Some of the speculation is a bit of a stretch lol I’m pretty sure this game has more or less been turned inside out ever since speed running became popular.
Trying to offer more to the world than "because that is how the game was designed". Just trying to think deeper than that and see if the game lore can explain things away. I realize that it isn't always everyone's cup of tea, but I find it fun to speculate like that.
The best DK game ever!!!! and one of my favorites games of all times!
It’s def in my top games of all time! Very fun

My favourite SNES game!!
@@RaineWillowTheWonderer it’s up there. Though my personal favorite will always be Super Metroid!!

Oh most likely. David Wise did the soundtrack for both so I’m sure he even had unused tracks he reworked.
Please let me do a collab in Donkey Kong country 3 please
Will there be another video dedicated to Mickey's Speedway USA soon?
Yes…
@jiggylookback Thank you so much.

On the map, that’s not a connecting line. It’s where the map was folded horizontally.
The gold instruments are just a glitch. It’s similar to the silver DK glitch involving Rambi in the first game.
It’s literally a black dotted line to two circles. It’s not folded there.
And yes the second is a palette swap glitch apparently! Really cool!
You got a subscriber in me man !
Heck yeah!!! Thanks so much! Hope you like my other videos too :)
If you do the Kremcoin cheat you can’t %102 the game
Simply make a DKC video and i love you religiously
Fair. Lol
Also Donkey Kong is Donkey Kong junior. There's not a third Donkey Kong. There's no generation gap
A lot of evidence for cranky begins DK’s grandpa..
A bit of evidence Cranky being DK’s father.
You can pick and choose. I do actually lean toward the father angle personally because I like DK64 the most.
@jiggylookback Nintendo settled it with the movie. That's gonna be the cultural pillar most people know them from and that's what they decided there
@@jiggylookback I made a half serious kong family tree, which has Swanky and Bluster as brothers, and Bluster is Uncle Kong because he's Dixie's uncle and CHunky's father
