I rode the pine as a QB at Stanford a few years after Lynch left. When he would come back to campus, already a big NFL star, he was like the most cool dude. Super humble. Even though he had been gone I think three years before I got there at least, his Legend loomed large in the locker room.

It really was! And a couple of those guys are of the Bill Walsh coaching tree - Tony Dungy, Lovie Smith; both going on to coach against one another in Super Bowl XLI. In fact, there are at least 5 coaches that I can think of who got their start under Bill Walsh, and have gone on to win at least one SB as a Head Coach: Tony Dungy, Mike Holmgren, Mike Shanahan, George Seifert, and Andy Reid; combining for 7 SB championships between them. I don't know how anyone could argue against Bill Walsh being the most influential coach of all-time.. Football is what it is today, in large part, because of the contributions of Bill Walsh..

Mike was a guaranteed touch down inside the red zone, teams knew he was getting the ball and going up the gut most likely and they still had no prayer at stopping him.
