Johnny, WRT twist, the match kings have a thinner jacket. The game kings (game changers) have a much thicker jacket (trading off jacket concentricity for better terminal ballistics) which slightly alters the stability parameters. Sierra’s website suggests a 1:8” twist for both… Yet you are absolutely correct that they do have a different bullet shape as evident from the different ballistic coefficients. The trade-off is superior laminar flow at mock speeds vs. improved terminal performance/energy transfer inducing hydrostatic shock in game. In other words, for those that are not ballistics physicists, think of the game changer as sharp F-117 think of the matchking as a smooth B-2 bomber. While I may sound critical of the 6.5 game changer, it is in my top three as a hunting bullet in the 6.5. Truly a fantastic shooter in my boom stick. Awesome channel please keep it coming.
After watching you use it in so many videos I finally broke down and upgraded my single stage lee press and got a Redding t7. The lee was good to me for 5ish years but so far I'm absolutely loving the t7 it is just so much more convenient
Thank you for this video. A very hyped projectile from Sierra. I’m glad to see some real world tests. I’m still gonna stick with eldx, or accu bond, maybe even that gold dot! I tried the Sierra gk hp in 7mm rem mag and .270 win. Shot great groups but was not impressed on whitetail at all. Think that left bad taste in my mouth for Sierra.
Hey man, as nice as these super triggers may feel, you (unfortunately) are making a good case for just keeping a standard milspec in mine :) But as always, love your videos and keep hoping you'll put more out there :D Thanks!
I've had really good luck with these bullets in my 6.5 Grendel TC contender pistol with power pro varmint. I'm still playing with the seating depth since I can load long . 2.26in with 28.5gr of PPV gave me just under 0.5in group at 100yds. Velocity was 2300 FPS from my 15.8in barrel.
2 observations...man that compass is still on point! Im thinking my next rifle just might be a compass to go next to this Savage. Second observation...man those AR10 groups did not shift much at all! Pretty flat until you hit the high side. You know if i had to do it over again i would have gotten my savage in 6.5. As good as the 308 is shooting i can't help but think the 6.5 would be a tighter shooting gun. Good to see you working again and don't worry about the number of videos you get out because the quality of content is where its at brother.
Johnny, it is awesome to have few videos coming along, I miss your videos and fun shooting you do, be without you and your videos regularly is "depressing"… LOL… keep them coming, have a great weekend! Thank you for your services!
Your load prep, almost the same as what I put together for a 24" barrel in 6.5 CM AR-10 and here is what velocity and hand loads for each cartridge: RL-16: 42.3 - 2830, 42.5 - 2827, 42.7 - 2830, 42.9 - 2865, and 43.1 - 2876. Cratering signs started from the beginning but@ 43.1 with some ejection marks started. I'm going to do the shooting test again and concentrate only on RL-16 load @ 42.4, but only with 5 rounds. I'm using Berger VLD Target 130 grain. The cratering may be from a too long firing pin because I changed to another pin and I plan on measuring the length of both firing pins because I never got cratering before not until the change-over. Reloading can be a puzzle at times! Precision, reloading!
Chuck your Lee Universal Decapping die stem in a drill. Fine Emory cloth or sand paper will make it fit. I did just this when I bought some .243 SRP Peterson brass. Works good for 6BR brass too.
As others have said those groups mostly will change without the suppressor or the chronograph on the barrel. It does make sense to use the chronograph to establish bullet speed and standard deviation but honestly there are other chronographs out there. They may not be as easy to use and take set up time, but in all honesty the barrel harmonics change with anything on the barrel. I do like the simplicity of the chronograph you are using and have considered getting one myself but I would be wasting more bullets in the end because to confirm the load will shoot right without the chronograph one has to shoot it without the chronograph attached. Nice video as always. I do enjoy your videos.
Most data you find is for LRP. All my 6.5s have shot 150fps above max loads with lapua SRP brass. The SRP brass seems to be the answer if you want to get a velocity increase. 43 gr of h4350 with a 140 SST seem to be my new go to for hunting.
I just ran Quickload and the velocities in your Compass all matched within 5 fps. Never seen any powder bullet combination that Quickload modeled so closely. I was using Hornady case volume and Sierra 130 TMK, as I do not have any of the case brands, or the exact bullets you used in my Quickload files.
Alpha makes a great 6.5 brass as well. That small flash hole is precisely why I got rid of my Peterson brass. I had to switch to a different decap die just to work with it, and I couldn't see any difference in velocity or accuracy with that smaller flash hole. Try not to focus so much on SD. A low SD does not equal small groups. First thing I learned talking to several US Team F-Class shooters. One said he got an SD of 2 on a VV powder and it was the worst groups he'd ever seen out of a powder with a sub-10 SD. It's strange how that works.
I've ran through a box of these with my Ruger Precision 6.5 Creedmoor. I've come to a load that is 43.0gr H4350 Hornady brass, F210m primers, seated to 2.800 and have a SD of 7.6 for 5 shots at 2854fps. It shoots!! Other than my favorite 135gr Berger classic hunter load (which you can see on my channel taking it to 590yds) the GameChangers are the bee's knee's. I'm always looking for a load to shoot at steel and then take out the same day or next to hunt with, without having to re-zero for a "hunting load".
That Compass is looking sharp with that stock. Does that chronograph effect your groups? It would be interesting to see how the groups develope with and without that chrono attached to your can. Maybe even a bare threads, can, can with chrono comparison video.
On the AR10, I'm running the 260 remington and the 130 game changer. H4831 powder @ 43.5 gr. Charge. Seems very close to your accuracy and fps between your 43.6 charge. . I also did latter test to 44.0 grains from H4831....I'm happy with the 43.5 grain charge. As well as same group.
Have you considered using the vibrations of an electric toothbrush to vibrate the extruded powder deeper into the case to prevent compressing/crushing?
Hyped to tag a white tail with my TC compass using 42.3gr RL16 with a 143ELDX in Hornady brass with a Winchester LRP... Only hitting 2730 with a SD of 9 but cold bore had been dead nuts on...
But still no 300 win mag watched all three videos. I'll be waiting for those I'm very excited to see how that turns out. Bit this bullet didn't do as well as I had hoped for. I figured that would shoot lights out
At 10 yards, I think you can expect rifle projectiles to shave some weight off. Would love to repeat gel test at 200 yards. But, getting 2900 ft/sec is pretty good velocity, proving you don't need the new PRC.
Love all your 6.5cm Series. You should try some Nosler RDF Bullets Hollow Point Boat Tail 140gr for the 6.5CM. I have had amazing results with those in my TC Compass.
2800something FPS impact velocity is going to rip apart most bullets unless it's bonded or monolithic I think. If you do a gel test with the grendel at 10ft from the muzzle, you'll see how the bullet will perform at distance in the the creed.
I went out and bought a new TC in 6.5 and love it. Don't have a Chrono but best I can tell with my dad's gemteck one on it I am getting 2768fps box says 2700 out of a 24in barrel. Does that sound about right or am I off? The ammo is rem corlok 140gr
I'm having an issue with my expander ball sticking on the way out and I'm worried about run out. I have a gauge and get anywhere between .01 to .06 run out. I tried neck sizing only on once fired brass and the bolt closes too hard on some rounds. Your thoughts on depriming , bumping the shoulder back .02 without the expander and then neck sizing with the Lee neck sizer. Your input would be appreciated, thanks
Looking for some advice please. I’m shooting a Browning X-Bolt pro 22” barrel. Using the Hornady 6.5 creedmoor 143 GR ELDX. I’m mostly deer hunting. The groups I’m shooting are not very consistent. Can you recommend a factory ammo company? Bullet weight and type. Thank you. Your videos are very informative 👍🏻👍🏻
I put my CMC single stage 3.5# trigger in the mail yesterday to CMC because I have been having reset issues with it since I installed it, dry fire and live fire. Even after giving it a good cleaning with spray carb. cleaner and reoiling. If Charles sends it back saying it all checked out good I will make an adjustment to my gas block. Wondering how much you adjusted yours in. I have the same Seekings adjustable gas block as you.
Hi johnny mate I know this is getting away from the 130 game changer but we don't have them here in Oz yet. Was wondering if you could do a test review on the 129gr sst and reloder 17 cheers. Awesome channel I've almost watched all the 6.5 creedmoor videos
Hello Johnny , does this Serra plastic tip bullet resist tip melting that causes excessive drag /Hornady plastic tips are claimed to reduce melting and less bullet drag . i would think bullet drag would increase bullet drop and inaccurate shooting . it would be an interesting test Seera tip bullet vs Hornady tip for bullet drag also which one seems to be more accurate..
I've noticed that your best groups are usually with the worst SDs. I ran through a hundred test rounds this weekend, 5 of each load, got the same good group bad SDs, just doesn't seem right.
Your bullet review and the layout was great. I do have a serious question. Why would you ever choose a bullet that would not pass thru your animal, it's a known fact that a pass thru shot provides much better blood trails for those times the animal doesn't drop apon impact of the shot. Looking at you recovered bullets, I would never hunt a whitetail deer with the first two bullets, the soft point leadcore bullets are simply proven technology on killing ethically but can lack accuracy at longer shoots. The hornady ELD is probably the best deer round on the table overall. I say this because it typically gives a pass thru shot because it retains enough energy to do so, its expansion is nearly the same as the soft points if you measure the expanded diameter which means it has dumped enough energy to cause a fatal wound channel and it is extremely accurate for much further shoots. Your opinion would be appreciated. I'm currently hunting with the 143gr ELD and have experienced bullets completely breaking up upon contact with bone and have not liked the performance. I have started reloading an old trusted friend in the nosler partition bullet to see if I get better results.
i would stick with 43 gr/Compass for the pederson brass and go with 43.7 for starline/AR10 with #16 powder. I'm not sure if I like the small flash hole, Why deviate from a tried and proven standard?
Not related to the 6.5 but do you still do gel tests? I am trying to find somebody to do a gel test on a 100 gr short jacket bullet out of a 300 Blk. Not the most accurate bullet but I did load some in a M1 grand -- before you chew my head off and tell me about timing and such I loaded them light and slowly worked up the load until they cycled. But the amazing thing was the short jackets would punch a hole in 5/16ths mild steel plate. More so then a jacketed round would. A full power load would go right through as expected. But the short jacket would punch a bigger hole and leave a steel cap, like a mushroom head, behind and it looked as it the mushroom was more like a 45 or 50 caliber hole. Very strange. So reloading the 300 Blk, as I do, and having a bunch of short jackets still on the shelf I started to wonder what the bullet would do in ballistic gel out of a 300 Blk. Do you even still have any gel or did you use it all up? My guess is short jackets would open up quickly and not penetrate very far but I don't know and would very much like to. I have no load data for the 100 grain but I did see a video where "preachers day off" reloaded some and used 16.5 grains of H110 But that is a homemade load without any reference data.
Sierra develops their data in actual firearms rather than a universal receiver. Their recommended COAL is consistent with a REM 700 SA magazine length.
Seems like you should be getting some better overall accuracy out of you creednmoor. I've had stellar results with Hybrid V100. I don't have my load data on hand, but my hunting load is around 40 grains, with a 140 gr Nosler Partition. The V100 shot really well for me with an array of bullets.
I don’t understand why people shoot gel tests at 10/15yds. Most game is shot between 50 & 150yds. So why not gel test at 100yds for a realistic bullet performance?!?
You can gel test at 10 yards by downloading the cartridge to mimic a given range velocity You wanna test .308 at 1000 yards with a 20 inch barrel... load a sub sonic load running 1000 fps and let r rip
I have a reloading question for you Johnny. And remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question lol . For combustion to happen, the fire "triangle" must be complete: O2, fuel, ignition source. Any one of these absent and one cannot have combustion or fire. My question is this: if one were to reload a round in a zero O2 environment such as in a vacuum, then the O2 part of the triangle would be absent, so would a round still fire under those conditions?
Hmmm, that cratering is a bit of a worry. None of the rifles I shoot crater the primers, even with relatively hot loads. What I do get however is the primers backing out. To gauge pressure, I'm looking for about 60% of primer base being affected by flattening as being max pressure. One day I'll remember to take a photo, lol. Great info, thanks for posting. 🇦🇺 🍺🍺
These rifles are notorious for the primer cratering some companies make a sleveing kit for the firing pin hole drill it out and fit in a bushing kinda deal and it helps the cratering problem
Probably due to the fact that you are shooting small rifle primers and the diameter of the firing pin and firing pin hole is setup up for large rifle primers which would cause cratering at high pressures due to the primer flowing back into the bolt face.
@@greggrobinson7564 nope not at all the bolt face around the bolt has a divit around the firing pin large or small primers don't matter with these rifles that's why other companies offer the bushing kit to get rid of the divit around the firing pin
What kind of teaser crap is this??? 106 minutes?? C'mon!
Lol it's like, the brownies are in the oven and you can smell them. But you can't have any yet.

@@JohnnysReloadingBench lol-----its all good thanks
Ain't nothin like some good ole Johnny's Reloading vids in 6.5 to brighten a rainy day! #handsdownbestchannel
3 vidjas from Johnny in the same day wow brother great job keep up the great work
The gold dot was a realy great video, but here's the one I've realy been itching for!😁
Johnny is a powerful being capable of reloading a bolt action without cycling the bolt.
Keep up the good work Johnny.
Good stuff. You’re the best at this.
Dude. Your channel is so awesome.
Johnny, WRT twist, the match kings have a thinner jacket. The game kings (game changers) have a much thicker jacket (trading off jacket concentricity for better terminal ballistics) which slightly alters the stability parameters. Sierra’s website suggests a 1:8” twist for both…
Yet you are absolutely correct that they do have a different bullet shape as evident from the different ballistic coefficients.
MISSING! New Johnny's Reloading content! We miss ya bud! PUHHHLEASE come back!
Yeah!! 3 videos in one day!
Gamechanger is shooting well for me but man I love the look of the speer mushrooming from your other video! Going to get me some!
I'd definitely be interested to see this out of the Grendel too!
16:40 .. double fire .. good .. the best shooting . Bravo
Excellent video!
After watching you use it in so many videos I finally broke down and upgraded my single stage lee press and got a Redding t7. The lee was good to me for 5ish years but so far I'm absolutely loving the t7 it is just so much more convenient
Thanks Johnny! 👍👍
That double feed caught my attention lol
Thanks Johnny
Love to see your groups without the suppressor and that chronograph hanging on the end of your barrel

Ah the age of Creedmore. In 10 years it will be forgotten. Along with the 500 yards wet dream shots.
Chuck your Lee Universal Decapping die stem in a drill. Fine Emory cloth or sand paper will make it fit. I did just this when I bought some .243 SRP Peterson brass. Works good for 6BR brass too.
Maestro muy buenos videos tiene usted.
Thank you!
Reminds me, I've got 100 pieces of Starline 6.5 you can have. Half of it is fired once, half of it is primed with cci-450's and brand new.
As others have said those groups mostly will change without the suppressor or the chronograph on the barrel. Most data you find is for LRP. All my 6.5s have shot 150fps above max loads with lapua SRP brass. The SRP brass seems to be the answer if you want to get a velocity increase. 43 gr of h4350 with a 140 SST seem to be my new go to for hunting.
Just finished rolling some .45. Come on Johnny, let's roll some powder!

Our thin-skinned white tails would be easily dispatched by those rounds.
With the low SD’s I’d slap on a barrel tuner and shrink those groups down considerably.
That Compass is looking sharp with that stock. Does that chronograph effect your groups? It would be interesting to see how the groups develope with and without that chrono attached to your can. Maybe even a bare threads, can, can with chrono comparison video.
that AR10 is a nice shooting piece
On the AR10, I'm running the 260 remington and the 130 game changer. H4831 powder @ 43.5 gr. Charge. Seems very close to your accuracy and fps between your 43.6 charge. . I also did latter test to 44.0 grains from H4831....I'm happy with the 43.5 grain charge. As well as same group.

Same bullet in 6.5 Grendel what do you think?
But still no 300 win mag watched all three videos. I'll be waiting for those I'm very excited to see how that turns out. Bit this bullet didn't do as well as I had hoped for. I figured that would shoot lights out
I LOVE reloader 16 with Barnes 127 LRX 2900 fps and single digit sd/es, about 3/4 moa North of 42 grains
The gamechanger has a thicker jacket than the gameking, but they have a huge hollowpoint behind the tip.
2800something FPS impact velocity is going to rip apart most bullets unless it's bonded or monolithic I think. If you do a gel test with the grendel at 10ft from the muzzle, you'll see how the bullet will perform at distance in the the creed.
And another! Cool
Interesting how the lighter barrel's shots walked down the page as the powder increased. 🏴☠️
I went out and bought a new TC in 6.5 and love it. Don't have a Chrono but best I can tell with my dad's gemteck one on it I am getting 2768fps box says 2700 out of a 24in barrel. Does that sound about right or am I off? The ammo is rem corlok 140gr
I'm getting ready to start a 243 Game-changer Series. Now you got me curious on the weight retention of these 90g's.
Good seeing you in the comments
I'm having an issue with my expander ball sticking on the way out and I'm worried about run out. I have a gauge and get anywhere between .01 to .06 run out. Question: have you done work with the 260 rem ? What do you think of the sierra 6.5, 130 grain, TMK bullet in a 260 rem ?
I put my CMC single stage 3.5# trigger in the mail yesterday to CMC because I have been having reset issues with it since I installed it, dry fire and live fire. Even after giving it a good cleaning with spray carb. cleaner and reoiling. If Charles sends it back saying it all checked out good I will make an adjustment to my gas block. Wondering how much you adjusted yours in. I have the same Seekings adjustable gas block as you.
Those Speer 140s definitely look like the better bullet to me, judging by the gel test.
This in 6.5 Grendel with CFE223.
Smoked a nice 10pt whitetail with this ammo opening day
Sense you have extra decaping pins with your hornady dies just turn one down for the Peterson brass
Your bullet review and the layout was great. I do have a serious question.
Can you drill out those small flash holes to make them larger?
i would stick with 43 gr/Compass for the pederson brass and go with 43.7 for starline/AR10 with #16 powder.
Have you tried the barnes LRX? I cant get that bullet to shoot random flyers and random pressure changes
IMR 4895 Hornady interlock flat base bullet 140 grain 35.1 grains of IMR 4895 Tikka t3x Lite you can put five shots in a quarter inch
Sierra develops their data in actual firearms rather than a universal receiver. Their recommended COAL is consistent with a REM 700 SA magazine length.
Sure would like to know the thickness of the jackets of the bullets. Also if you could stretch out the gel out to 100 yards.
Hello Johnny I watch a lot of your videos and just wondering if there is a reason why you don't talk about 30-06?
I had an issue like that and it was the pins that hold in the trigger assembly moving.
What seating stem are you using for the TGK?
Is there a reason you are using the brass with SRP instead of the LRP?
3 in a day!
I don’t understand why people shoot gel tests at 10/15yds. Most game is shot between 50 & 150yds. So why not gel test at 100yds for a realistic bullet performance?!?
You can gel test at 10 yards by downloading the cartridge to mimic a given range velocity
You wanna test .308 at 1000 yards with a 20 inch barrel... load a sub sonic load running 1000 fps and let r rip
But most gel tests on RUclips are on factory ammo...

you sure it was a double fire, or a primer delay, did both bullets go through the exact same hole?
just wondering if you plan to try out accurate no11fs for 300 blk out
Wait until 7:000.......................... might be the longest 4.5 hours ever
? has Sierra made any all copper bullets, I can't find any for my rifle? I live in and all non-lead state so I am always looking for a better bullet.
Peterson brass is good stuff
Where did the double fire hit the target I didn’t see it?
First fired sized brass case capacity is less than fire formed one time fired brass.
To decapp those cases easily, pick up a Mighty Armory decapping die, with a Lapua sized pin.
Can you please do an RL26 video with the AR10?
John, What is your "hall of fame " loads for all of your loads? For 223 308 6.5 G , 6.5 C 30-06, Val, 6.8 ect ?
Try putting the bullets in hot water to dissolve the gel out that's stuck inside them.
So why would faster bullets hit lower on the target?
Check your disconector in the trigger, switch it out
6.5 Creedmoor with 140 grain interlock Hornady bullet and 35.1 grains Avaya model 4895 you cannot beat that charge or the Bullet
Need to see 6.5 staball powder loads
Hmmm, that cratering is a bit of a worry. None of the rifles I shoot crater the primers, even with relatively hot loads. What I do get however is the primers backing out. To gauge pressure, I'm looking for about 60% of primer base being affected by flattening as being max pressure.
One day I'll remember to take a photo, lol.
Great info, thanks for posting.
🇦🇺 🍺🍺
These rifles are notorious for the primer cratering some companies make a sleveing kit for the firing pin hole drill it out and fit in a bushing kinda deal and it helps the cratering problem
@@byerboys2607 Thank you
Probably due to the fact that you are shooting small rifle primers and the diameter of the firing pin and firing pin hole is setup up for large rifle primers which would cause cratering at high pressures due to the primer flowing back into the bolt face.
@@greggrobinson7564 nope not at all the bolt face around the bolt has a divit around the firing pin large or small primers don't matter with these rifles that's why other companies offer the bushing kit to get rid of the divit around the firing pin
When are you doing the 6.5 grendal vid?
