  • Today, I go step by step to install a leveling kit with new upper control arms on the 2019 Ram 1500. This video contains extra steps for those of you also changing out your upper control arms and not just doing the leveling spacers. A few changes were made during filming, which made this a bit difficult to make into an organized/short video, so I've added time stamps and posted them below my product links here in the video description. Hopefully this helps save some time!

You are the only person who I've seen recommend swapping the struts from side to side. I will def check into that when I'm doing the install and see what lines up best. I will stick with OEM UCA's as well thanks to your video.

    When the nuts don't want to come loose because joint is spinning freely put wrench on nut then use 10mm socket with airgun or battery powered ratchet and use opposite setting than what you want to happen. IE to take nut off then use the tighten position clockwise rotation on airgun or ratchet (if right handed thread) which rams are, this will loosen the nut make sure you hold wrench on nut when using airgun/ratchet.

      @TonyTheTruckGuy  8 месяцев назад +1

      Not u less you’re trying the change the ride or handling of the truck. If you wanted a stiffer front end or more travel than factory, then a full strut would be a better option. If you’re fine with the factory shock travel and ride quality but just want a little front end lift, the spacer is fine.

    Great video. Did you have any tire rubbing prior to leveling? The tires look bigger than the stock size. Thanks!

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  Год назад

      Yes they are slightly larger. These were 275/60R20, which was actually the stock tire size for the 4th gen Rams. The 5th gen used 275/55R20 stock, which is about an inch shorter. The only rub I had with these tires in stock form was the left splash guard. SUPER flimsy plastic piece that was never formed right from the factory, so it sagged down a bit. I just pushed up on it with my hand to tuck it up higher and never had another problem lol. I even stepped up to a 285/65R20 after the leveling kit and the only thing I had to do was trim my OEM mud flaps slightly.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy

      That’s correct, the Wulf kit is TECHNICALLY for the 4th gen Rams, but it does work with the 5th gens as you can see. Ram this setup for over 2 years before I traded the truck in and never had any issues. Ride quality basically as good as stock and no clunking or anything.

  • @craig4926
    @craig4926 Год назад +1

    word of the wise, never take your upper control arm nut all the way off until you free it from the knuckle. loosen the nut and leave it on a few threads to be safe when you hit the knuckle with a hammer to pop it loose.

    Just an FYI for people using this as a guide for the 2019 Ram Rebel.. make sure you loosen the 36mm Axle Nut, and just leave it threaded on about 3 threads.. this gives you about an extra inch to push the Lower control Arm down, and makes life a bit easier.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  2 года назад

      You mean the gap on the passenger front side from the ground to the fender is more than on the driver side front gap? I would have them check to verify that both strut spacers are indeed the same height. Also as I believe I mentioned in the video, it’s important not to fully tighten everything until the truck is on the ground with weight on it. If they tightened everything while the truck was on a lift, it could give weird measurements afterwards. Also, how certain are we that the gaps were perfectly even before doing the install?

      Did you do a top mount spacer on your 2016 or was it the kind that you have to take the strut apart to install? Mine feels just as good as stock or very close to it. • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  2 года назад +1

      I think I came through the engine bay actually. Otherwise if you’re having trouble, just take note what angle the UCA is at with weight in the truck, then jack it up and pull the wheel. Jack up on lower control arm until proper UCA angle is achieved and then just torque it there. Doesn’t have to be perfect just close so the bushings don’t get demolished immediately.

      Unfortunately, I have not seen the front end of these new Rams in 2wd configuration, so I’m not sure what kind of angle it has. A lot of the leveling kits I’m seeing show the same kit for 2wd and 4wd, so probably pretty similar setup only without CV shafts. You’ll have to look at your control arm angle and make your best judgement.

      The ones I’m the video were Black Horse brand. I have an install video on them, but last I checked, they were unavailable or discontinued. I also have a video on the OEM mopar steps which were my favorite of the 3 I’ve tested, but also the most expensive. The 3rd video I have is on a Yitamotor brand side step. I liked those as well and they were a fraction of the cost of OEM, but the paint faded from flat black to a dull gray in a matter of a few months, so you’d probably want to get them painted or do a coating yourself before installing those ones.

If you don't say anything to them, they more than likely wouldn't even notice because the top mount of the strut completely covers the spacer and makes it essentially invisible. The only way they would notice is by actually looking at the rake of the truck. My plan for all of this stuff at the end of the lease is to just to remove everything and sell the parts used on Craigslist or FB marketplace and then either return the truck to the dealer or buy it out and try to flip it private party for a profit.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  3 года назад +2

      2wd trucks sit lower than the 4wd trucks to begin with so you’re definitely going to rub with a 35x12.5 tire cause I have a 4wd with 1.5” level and my 34.5x11.2 tires rubbed. Granted, it was only on the mud flap, so if not for them, then I would have been fine. That being said, your 2wd truck with a 2.5” level is going to be about the same height as my 4wd with a 1.5” level. But my tires are skinnier. The tire width and wheel offset is what’s going to make or break the deal for you. I would get on the 5th gen Ram forum and see what kind of setups guys are running. The problem is most guys have a 4wd truck so it might be hard to find one like yours. If you don’t have mud flaps and you get wheels that don’t stick out too far, you SHOULD be able to get a 35x12.5 on there with the 2.5” level I think.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  3 года назад +2

      Hey no problem. Yeah the splash guards are very flimsy and bend easily with just some heat. The main concern would be rubbing on sheet metal. Factory wheel offset on the 9” wide wheels is about +18 or +19mm. Most people stick between a 0 offset and +18 as that seems to be the sweet spot for minimal to no rubbing. The closer to 0 you get or if you go negative offset, the more the wheel will stick out.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  3 года назад +2

      Well 0 offset just means the center of the wheel is right in the middle. Depending on what vehicle they get put on, it could be inside the fender or outside depending on how the vehicle is set up. On the 19 and newer Ram 1500, anything between about 0 and +19 will get you close to flush with the fenders. May stick out just a tad. Of course the tire width also comes into play there and I’m not sure if the 2wd geometry is the same axle width as the 4wd trucks. On my 4wd with this wheel and tire setup, is was about perfectly flush. But my tires are only 11.2” wide. I’d say a 9” wide wheel with the same +18 offset and a 12.5 wide tire would put you flush, assuming the 2wd front end is the same width as the 4wd but again it would be best to see what other guys are running.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy

      Thanks! I believe Zone only offered the spacers that require disassembly of the struts to install, which I didn’t want to mess with and I heard it makes the ride worse. Otherwise I would have had to go with the Zone replacement lift struts, but I’m always leery on the claimed lift gain on stuff like that because it seems some people say they got 2.5” of lift while others only got 2” or something like that. I could have done the r Zone 3.5” lift but I didn’t want to mess with the rear of the truck and as you see I ended up not needing the control arms anyways.

      I have a 2021 laramie and debating to go with a 2 inch level or 2.5. I tow a bass boat not that it's that heavy but don't want it to squat at all

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  2 года назад +1

      @@farwellfishing Even with a 2” lift, the truck would squat with a boat hooked up. 2” should make the truck totally level with no load on the rear. 2.5” “levels” aren’t actually level in my opinion, they make the front sit higher. The only way I’d see you towing a boat with zero squat is if you did a 2” level or 1.5” level with air bags in the rear. Not sure how much tongue weight the bass boat has. You might be able to get away with a 1.5” level and no air bags.

      The only thing I can see it voiding would be maybe the struts or ball joints, but you can’t even see the spacer when it’s installed. So if you don’t say anything, they probably won’t even notice.
