I got my big buddy heater for our 9 by 12 porch. We live in Vermont so it gets cold around here and we wanted to be able to sit out on the porch and watch the colored lights we have out in the garden. This heater worked great. From 20 degrease to 65 and 70 after about an half hour. Now we can sit with the cats and enjoy life as it slips away.
Insulation is the answer, along with buddy heater. Proper venting is a must when using any type of flamed heat in a confined area. It will safe you fuel in the long run.
@aaronmelvin461 - great suggestion on the insulation. It definitely helped a lot - check out our other video here: ruclips.net/video/5gyjSaXrbM8/видео.htmlsi=IIFeNmeyO6KxPWL0
Have a wood stove in my deer condo made from a 20# propane tank, 80 degrees can be normal with 3 minature logs. Blind is 6 by 10 feet with a 7ft barrel roof. Shot a beauty of an 8 point that laid down for 20 minute with smoke going right at it's face, never bothers them... Northern Michigan...
Always a good idea to have a low level (more sensitive) portable or wall mounted Carbon Monoxide detector. I use a portable one (Klien Tools), easier to move where you need it.
I heat my 20 x 24 cabin with a Big Buddy. It is insulated quite well except the floor. After the cabin gets warmed up I use 2 small electric heaters to maintain so I can turn off the propane at nite while I sleep. I also use smaller Buddy in my 4 x 8 shooting shacks they work great as well
@@stonehillcabin in Ky a couple of days this past Nov during rifle season it got down in the teens at nite. If I had windows on my Shooting Shacks I could get by with the even the smaller heater
@Daniel Reeves - thank you. We had a successful hunt this year so far, and look forward to the remaining days. Hope the same for you? Thanks for watching our channel!
I'd swap the Buddy out for the wall mounted Camco Wave 8 heater. A 20lb tank will last around 160 hours on high. The Big Buddy has a 100 hour estimated run time on low. Also with it being wall mounted there's no tip over risk and you have longer run times so you can preheat it while loading gear.
@Anubis Reviews - I just looked up the Camco Wave 8 heater, and it looks great. The fact that it's wall-mounted is a real space-saver especially where space comes at such a premium in an 8x12 area. The only drawback I see is the investment at nearly 5x the price of the existing solution. Thanks for sharing this as I may be able to apply to a new office we are planning on building sometime soon.
@@stonehillcabin while it is more expensive it does have greater strengths. As it's designed for RV or cabin use it is built with that purpose whereas the Buddy is mobile for camping and small blinds. The additional hours of use are also a plus when you are limited on space needing to have less fuel around which also lowers the risk factor. Each has there pros and cons. Just have to find what suits your situation.
Better get the filter that screws onto the regulator first then the hose. Google it, the hose will release contamination into your heater and plug it up.
Thanks @Doug Hershberger. Is this what you are referring to? Mr. Heater Universal Propane Fuel Filter www.amazon.com/dp/B000HE8P2O/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_XEBVXYSXFDB9HD46X2XF
Insulating the stand could make it a multi - use structure. Deer may be used to the wood burning smell if lots of people burn wood in your area. You are also high enough that the propane smell should be dissapated in the surrounding air unless you have a incomplete combustion problem. Opening up a window a crack could help with any condensation from heating with propane. Have you considered a sled to haul your tank, heater, and equipment to the stand?
@Kevola - thank you for watching. You make a great point on the smell of wood burning - it's extremely common around here, so it's probably strange to deer if they don't smell wood burning, lol!
One suggestion for dirt cheap insulation. Look up "Finnish sauna insulation". The type which can be emulated by layering regular aluminum foil covered by tar paper then a sheeting of OSB on top and you're set. It should emulate R33 insulation value if the specs I got are correct. R33 approx. 4 inches of glass wool.
@Micke J - great idea on the Finnish sauna insulation. I wish I would have checked into that before I bought the batt insulation. I think I'll see how it does for this full winter season, and then consider this alternative next spring. Thanks for watching our videos!
@@stonehillcabin Will do a more in depth trial later when I get the temp and IR-sensor camera I know a buddy has access too. This should be able to show the actual heat dissipation and any pitfalls as well. The only thing to consider is not to puncture such a setup with nails or screws as this produces leakages. Also it may prevent Wifi signals and cell phone use but that is secondary when having windows in your case.
@RV Davy - thanks for subscribing, and we appreciate you watching the channel. Good luck with the filter on your Buddy....I know it can get pretty chilly in Az.
@rachael9372 - good point. We are happy with how warm it felt this season, but may consider a wood stove (with fan) in the future. Thanks for watching our channel and video!
Big propane tank is supposed to be outside . Always have a carbon monoxide alarm and a fire extinguisher . I seen videos where the connection had a LEAK and a fire started .
@Shelley H - thank you for your comment and concern It's interesting that MR Heater says a couple of things in the owner's manual: 1. This kit includes a 5 foot cable (very short!) to hook up to a campsite sized propone tank or to a 20 gallon tank like the one I have. 2. There's an auto shutdown when low O2 is detected. In either case, better safe than sorry. This is what I am doing although I do not recommend it to others. Thanks for watching our channel/videos!
@Chad Miller - yes! That is exactly what we ended up doing with the insulation. If you have a chance, please check out the next couple of videos and you'll see that. I'm still going back and forth on what to put up for wall board though. Definitely open to ideas for the spring. Thanks for watching our videos and channel.
I have a heat buddy in my shooting shack, heat rises you should put the temperature gauge couple feet off the ground for more accurate temperature for you . A little misleading
@John Walker - you make a good point. The reason I mounted it high was because the top plate provided a surface to mount the thermometer in the center of the wall. What I need to do is mount another 2x4 block a little lower where I can mount to (again in the center of the wall). We really appreciate you watching the channel and our videos.
@kevin balcom - I had considered putting a wood stove up there, because I know how nice that would heat things up. For now I've just stuck with the Big Buddy. Thanks again for watching our video and channel!
@shawnruddy6043 - The more I think about it, the deer probably smell wood burning smells coming from our home just a few hundred yards away. So not completely foreign to them.
Thanks for the tip. I actually looked and the owner's manual as well as on the unit and don't see a spot for the 4D batteries. I suspect that there's an alternate model that has that that looks very similar. Thanks as always for watching our videos!
@Tony Denton arms - that's awesome! Do you recall if wind may have been in your favor on that occasion, or I wonder if deer just don't care about the smoke smell? Merry Christmas!
@tony Denton arms - nice, I will definitely consider a small wood stove although we did stay comfortable after insulating and using the Big Buddy this season. For our size stand, we could probably get the smallest one they make.

Nothing wrong with a luxury stand it's a different kind of hunting, but it's still super fun especially with a hunting partner.
