- Come along on a cabin adventure to the woods in Northern Canada with us. We picked the coldest weekend of the year to head down to our cabin and spend some time.
On this episode we are doing some improvements on our big cabin also!

A refiner's fire means to purify. It is a biblical metaphor for what happens when metal is put in to a flame. All of the impurities are burnt off and what comes out is pure. That's what God does to our hearts when we turn to Him and accept His gift of grace.

The very short summer season up here is a real problem sometimes when it comes to accomplishing tasks and having a little fun. We would love to visit your part of the world some day, the climate, the animals, the culture, the food…. All sound so exotic!!

The commute is perfect! We’ve come a very long way from having to walk 3km each way from the end of the road, to the cabins when we first bought them lol

She has a coat. But she doesn’t like it. She is only outside for minutes at a time, and only if she wants ❤️
She has a nice warm jacket, a cozy warm vest and boots. But she hates all of it haha

Great question! The little cabin was built in the early 70s and the rec room (the bigger cabin) was built in the early 60s by the Lutheran Church. They used it as a bible camp and retreat.

South Dakota, we had serious cold about 60+ below & some of the cattle had so much frozen condensation on their faces they couldn’t see & they could barely breathe. We had to herd some steers into our brick garage which just happened to be empty. It saved them.

First time watcher from Raleigh NC, USA. Love the cabin and the Bible reference on the wood stove. It is never fun to have to go through the Refiner's fire, but if we endure, we shall emerge as more pure gold and silver fit for a vessel for the Lord!

Great video you 2. The hardest thing is warming up the cabin. We go up to our cabin and it takes a full day to get it all warmed up. Sure like seeing the old cabin. You have a great location for your solar. Putting out good. Maybe there is still hope for the grampa spruce. LOL

You’re absolutely correct! What a weird thing the temperature grading is when you look at the systems side by side.

Hello from here in Zephyrhills Florida where we will hit 39 degrees today so it’s not very warm here in sunny Florida either. But I’m from upstate NY and have been in -32 degree weather before which is why I now live in Florida lol. But this reminded me of growing up in NY so I just had to subscribe to your channel. I was born and raised in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York and had no electricity or running water ever so I can sympathize with what you’re going through to get everything up and going or warm enough to run. Europe has so much beautiful old architecture! Here in the far north of Canada our 60 yr cabin is a VERY old building. Isn’t that something? I travelled to Europe as a teenager. The old buildings were amazing.

I love cold places - so pure! -- QUESTION -- Where about in Northern Canada? So many people say that term but sometimes I find that they mean north of Toronto Canada and some mean the Yukon. You are absolutely right, we are in Northern Canada. On the west side of the country in the north of the province of British Columbia.
The cabin properties were priced affordably at $180,000 Canadian because they were in really poor condition when we purchased them from the church in 2020. There’s a video that shows some of the work we had to do to get our little cabin usable again. If you’re interested here is the link to that video.

I am very sorry. I'm from Ohio and this may be my first time watching but I got to tell you you can keep your weather. Not interested. It gets cold enough here. + There is no way I could handle it at -40. It's bad enough when it gets below 40 or below 50 here and it gets cold here in Ohio. Not for me
I think your attitude about the severe cold is very common! It’s definitely not for everyone, so no need to apologize!
Today it’s 25c (77f) and we are getting 17.5hrs of daylight currently, so we definitely get all the seasons up here in the north.

I think you should seal better the walls and the entry door. There are holes and the cold entry inside for sure. Maybe need an other stove or one biger.

C&K love the channel. To funny, I put Trophy Wife in one of our videos and the wife poo pooed it. When it started playing in your video we both laughed. FYI, the colder it is the more efficient solar panels are. When designing a system wire size is determined by the coldest average temperature for that region. Panels can produce 120% more than their label. Your cabin is beautiful, love large front porch.

Your solar is working so well precisely because it is cold, not in spite of it. The colder it gets, the more efficient your panels will be.
Boom!! You understand what most people don’t! Winter is much more efficient. Even though there is less sun
I’m in the uk, for us it’s very cold at -3.7° I can’t possibly imagine just how cold it is in your neck of the woods! I’m afraid as a nation we’re not that great at coping with freezing temperatures and snow. Everything comes to a grinding halt with just 3 inches of snow!
Really? That’s interesting! It seems the winters have been milder here in northern Canada in the last decade. None the less, we always get our week of -40 it seems.
The sunshine makes it bearable. It’s generally very sunny where we live ❄️☀️

@@OffGridWithChrisandKristie LOL, no. I was an air compressor mechanic for 25 years. I couldn't come up with a better name, I'm not that creative, LOL. We are in the process of looking for some land to build a cabin in northern WI right now. Unfortunately, not much available or too expensive.

Nice to meet you, I live about 6 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, it gets cold but nothing like what you have. Very little snow but we get those big ocean storms (hurricanes). It gets very hot.@@OffGridWithChrisandKristie
Northern Wisconsin has had wind chills -35 F at night during the last few days. Yesterday our high was -1F. I saw some guy get out of his car at the grocery store, wearing shorts! This seems to be the latest craze here. Some students wear shorts every day.
Haha there’s no way I’d want to wear shorts in winter! But sometimes Chris gets the wood stove rockin in the house and it’s so warm I can wear shorts inside 😂

Quebec looks amazing, maple trees and old architecture are two things that I wish we had more of in the north west of Canada.
We’ve tried to plant and grow maple here. But it just gets to cold in the winter for them to survive.

We had a cold spell to -12 / -15 haha not as chilli as you though got a foot of snow now that pizza looks tasty
I wish we could get a foot of snow! We are sure worried about the fire season coming this year, last year was super bad and if we don’t get much snow this winter we will be in a real pickle this year.

How is the weather over there this time of year?
all that work to make dough that will kill you. Why not grind your own grain and live a little longer.
It’s actually locally produced and ground grain! It is primarily white, but it’s unbleached and organic, whole wheat is good and we have that as well as rye. I don’t grind it myself. But local farmers do. And we choose to support them ❤️

The temperature was super warm, the wood stove is amazing! We got it up to 25c (77f) that night. But you could get it cooking hot in there if you wanted!

Hi watching from Syracuse New York , I haven't experienced cold like that in a long time. Hopefully we will get a little for old time sake. Our winters have been very mild for several years. Global warming has changed our weather patterns. Love your video, hope to see many more 😊
