Cool to see you doing an outdoor gig
did you delete all your videos??
This Giglog was Amazing!!! And hello from Germany
Ey iam german too and my name is paul tooooo. Wtf
Great video. You guys handled both situations very professionally. 😀👍❤️
4-6 1kw fresnels would have been usefull for front lighting i think. Also when renting power equipment I usually add 50% cabling and some distros on top to be prepared. Power is relatively cheap but hard to plan precisely
Our front lighting being properly focused would have been perfect, and we didn't plan the generators/distro, the county did and also was not given what they ordered
What subs are you using
Coming from someone who has been through all of the problems you have mention in this vlog, I would recommend investing in a single phase pagoda distro, or build one. For downstage wash it’s still hard to get away from a conventional rig (even par 56’s) they can take rain and abuse and nowadays they can be had for cheap. Plus it’s just hard to get a good front wash without them unless you use some good LED fixtures. Try to get your client to rent the cities bucket truck to aim your fixtures once the stage is at trim height, most cities have one and they become useful around the festival site. What processor did you guys use to time align your subs since they were out in front of the PA? All in all as long as the client is happy that’s all that matters, you’ll find the next show to be easier!
No processor for time alignment, just used the built in delay available in the X32 and did it by ear. Didn't have time to measure or do anything fancy, and any cancellation at the crossover point was completely unnoticeable. Also, the sub lowpass is 24db/octave at 80hz and the top highpass is 48db/octave at 90hz. Again, any phase issues were completely and totally unnoticeable. System EQ was almost completely flat, just did some reduction around 6kHz to deal with some HF diaphragm breakup distortion.
Nice gig log (as always)
Makes you think about multiple contingency plans when sooooo much things come together to suck and drain your excitement of working an out of town gig let alone ANY gig when the suck factor is so dam high. But..... you made it thru the muck...Salute fellas...
in 2014 a lot of my equipment got rained on, including my then brand new X32. Thankfully everything survived. My Yamaha DXR15's, the desk, the subs. Everything!. Still nerve wracking experience.
What an awesome video😻
Really dope video guys! Nice job!!
The gear may work now but after the corrosion gets bad enough they will not work then. Rain sux! I got rained on more this year than any other year before. For a while every show we had our gear tarped.
Can you share the audio and lighting gear tour. Thanks man
Vocals sounded like you took all the body out, is that the camera or did you cut a lot below 1k?
The camera does a pretty good job of representing what the event sounded like, so no that's not the camera. What you may call "body" I may call "extremely horrendous mud". I've seen a lot of examples where the engineer at a show is working with a low mid heavy PA and does not correct for proximity effect of the dynamic mics, which results in tons of low mid in the vocals. This may be what you refer to as "body", and you may like that sound, but I hate that sound. It sounds terribly unnatural to me.
I was working with a flat PA and corrected for proximity effect, beyond that I didn't do much else to the vocals. My preference for vocals is just that they sound natural and balanced, basically what the person sounds like naturally, just amplified.
That's mental that 2 15"s did all the highs! How did they perform did they limit at all?
They were in limit when we check the PA, and we're also during the loud dynamic parts of the band, but we knew they would be loud enough for our needs and they were 👍
Doug understates that, they were in limit the entire time the band was playing, but they have different levels of "limit" due to the limiters being so high quality. Also, because of the asymmetric coverage of the 15s they "throw" much further than you would expect, and as such everybody was blown away with how loud and clear the sound was hundreds of feet away.
@@alexberry3833 ahhh i was very impressed by the video, its drastically changed my opinion on Martin tbh
First of you guys really used just 2 15 Martin tops but 8 18 subs ?!?! Wow those tops must be powerful huh..... had an opportunity to buy some 2nd hand for $600 (Pair) from a club.... lasted 3 hours in the web, next thing you know SOLD$$$ 😓
2nd
Great job guys! Would love to see a hanging audio video if possible. I know there's not much to it. But I rather see someone with experience doing so, before I try it my self!
The Martin tops are super powerful! Although, for a balanced sound, we were only running the subs at around 25% power
@@dougberry4674
Wow really? How about when you did the test with EDM music?
@@StreetMobTruckin that was when the subs were the loudest
@@dougberry4674
Ah ok I was thinking that!
When Doug says that's when the subs were the loudest, that's when he means they were at 25% power. For the actual show they were running even less than that.
What’s your opinion on the QSC speakers?
generally not a fan
I was suprised with those martins how they turned out loud like, line arrays
a good way to think about their output is to compare them to 3 per side kla, or even vrx
we have seen some people online complain "what were they thinking?! need more pa!!!!" but what's funny is that if we had simply used kla or vrx they wouldn't be saying that at all even though the CDD Live 15s are actually better
@@dougberry4674 I agree, JBL VRX932LAP is ideal but 3 per side will need 6 dual 18 subs because the VRX932LAP's are killing some single 18's because it lacks low end
Nice sound
how is youre experience with the behringer x32? I got one on my own and want to hear some impressions of you guys.
I love mixing on the X32 series. I love the workflow, I haven't had a single issue with any X/M32 devices ever, and I've never run into a situation where I could hear any limitations in regards to sound quality.
@@alexberry3833 thanks for the response. I had the last weeks my first gigs with it and I'm really impressed how easy it is in comparison to my old analog mixer. The feature to stand somewhere in the room and set the levels is valuable. So I want to say thank you from Germany. I started looking for some gigs because of you're videos and got really interested in new things.
Will there be a Cedar Cliff Mini Thon 2019??
The event did happen, we declined to do their production.
@@SLMEntertainment why? how saddd :(
When is there coming a new gig log?
TODAY!
@@SLMEntertainment Do you know the CDD Live 12? I Could get a pair used for 1400 Euros (1700 Dollars), i dont know if thats a good deal.
@@Newschoolcovers That's a good deal for a pair!
Name
It takes guts to sing up on stage nice gig / mini concert 👍
Subwoofer?
Edgking Music read the description my dude
Nice video👌🏼🔥
Place the subs under the speakers next time. Better sound
but far worse coverage for only marginally better sound. having the subs in phase with the mains doesn't matter if 1/3rd of the audience area is outside of the power alley
I think you guys should invest in some more tops.
What makes you think that?
SLM Entertainment Well, I was just thinking that when doing bigger gigs like this line Arrays would be better but then i am not an expert and i don’t know how the 815’s or whatever you where using sound.
Just a question Do you think monitor speakers are important for live performers because in my school when I set up I put the only monitor speaker beside me. should I just put the monitor Infront of the performers or should I ask if the school to buy 2 monitor speakers for the Performers
The Great Sniper The whole point of monitors is to ensure the people on stage hear what they are playing. The point of you at the sound desk is to correct things according to what the audience can hear ( such as, through the front of house speakers) If you have a monitor, it will sound different and the accuracy will be lower.
Mr.Someone \Tom/ thanks
@@thegreatsniper6683 No problem. I'd still ask them to get two monitors one doesn't cover the whole stage, I know schools usually have quite a tight budget. Asking for two for each member on stage would be extreme lol
When ru going to upload again?
Coltin Riffle They’re on the way!
TODAY!
i would liked to heard the subs by them selve cause it sound like singing coming out of the subs mine is just pure base
You're talking about around 7:45 right? The singing is coming from the tops.
Kok sepi?
what tops are these?

We had a couple recent gigs that were quite stressful as well. We did an Elvis Memorial Dinner in Memphis, TN and got only a couple video clips of the event just because of everything going so badly.

Then our next gig was a simple laser show at an outdoor dubstep event in Nashville, and got complete torrential rain right after setup completion. Thankfully we were able to wait it out and continue the show after the rain stopped!
