  • ~ By the time jazz giant buddy rich & tabla maestro alla rakha recorded this track in '68 the mid-late sixties had seen a huge surge of interest in indian music with many musicians incorporating its influence into their music (one of the earliest & best being the track east-west butterfield blues band from their elektra album 'east-west' 1966) ...the track your hearing is from their album 'buddy rich and alla rakha' liberty records 1968 with some tracks melding the two elements superbly while one or two in my estimation not quite gelling.....involved here are jazz flutist paul horn/shamim ahmed-sitar/taranath rao/nodu das mullick/amiya da gupta with ravi shankar overseeing production and composing some tracks...alla rakha is probably best known to western ears due to his meserizing performance with ravi shankar at the 1967 monterey festival as seen in the film of the event...not an album you see too often but if you enjoy those fusion type records this maybe your cup of cha....
