I saw this documentary as it was first broadcast. It was John Peel's 60th birthday in 1999 and the BBC (in UK) 'gave him' the channel BBC2 for the evening as a birthday present. He decided to devote it to The Captain, whom John had promoted heavily in UK. I'm relying on my ageing memory so could be wrong on this. It stands up as much today as it did then. It's over 52 years since I first saw Don and Magic Band at Liverpool Stadium. The first of numerous of his concerts that I went to. At the first gig I hadn't heard anything by him before the gig. I went because of articles about him in Melody Maker (as UK music paper) and I was curious. I was captivated from the first moment. Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band are to your ears what Salvador Dali is to your eyes. In days of woe, I just think of his music and then everything is fine............

Dan Hamilton on guitar to the left, Judd Hamilton on guitar to the right, Tommy Reynolds on keyboards, and Joe Frank Carollo on drums. Two years after this recording, Judd left for London to work as an actor, while Dan, Joe Frank, and Tommy formed the band "Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds" with their first big hit "Don't Pull Your Love" in 1971 and their number one hit, written by Dan Hamilton, "Fallin' In Love" in 1975.❤

it happened so many times to groups... the small faces were a prime example as were the nashville teens who when i interviewed them told me that with a number one hit in the charts were still all sitting in the back of a transit van for gigs and on barely on £20 a week each! jimi hendrix was a big name that really got screwed over...

Hippies never ruled anything. Those who ruled the world then are still ruling it now. I continue to think Peace and Love are better than War and Hate. But as long as the rulers continue to make more money from war than from peace, the hippie New Age will remain in the future.
