  • ~ Some times when the stars and moon are in correct alignment wonderful things can happen and that is just the case here on a single by 'the fifth generation' from westfield MA...this garage-pop band got things brilliantly correct when they wrote and recorded this dynamic organ driven record released in january '68 'if i see her/you lied to me' phonebooth records....formed as a loose congregation in summer '66 they soon settled down to the line-up that recorded this tune : bill gumlaw/gene d'amico/arnie gay/greg grimm/wade smigelski & stan wawrowski...practice sessions were held in smigelski's parents basement where they worked mainly on current cover versions..winning a battle of bands contest at mountain park holyoke with the winners getting studio time they recorded two tracks which they had custom pressed on their own 'phonebooth' label named in honour of local radio d.j. dick booth who helped promote the group...this also gave them several opportunities to appear on local t.v. such as the brad davis show....several more demo's were later laid down such as 'in the midnight hour/you keep me hanging on & two more...fabulous and ear catchy this will haunt you for days....i have taken the track from my copy of 'new england teen scene' c.d. el diablo records 1994 with the band saying later they should have written more original songs not relying on covers & i'll second that!
