- This vintage JCPenney unit has an AM/FM Stereo receiver, 8-Track Player, Cassette Recorder and a 2-speed semi-automatic turntable. It's model #683-1770. I paid $11 and change for it. Let's find out if I got my money's worth.
My mother bought me this exact unit at a garage sale in 1982. I had it all through college! Thanks for the memories!
I did odd jobs around town for a year or two to get enough money to buy this from the JcPenney Christmas catalog as a kid. That was a pile of money in 1977 lol. Great video, thanks for the memories!
I just found one of these in my basement of a hoarder house I bought. She's really dusty but she works!! This video helped me find the model so I can figure out the rest of how it works. Thanks!
I had this exact system...My parents bought it in 1979 for me for Christmas.
I had this stereo as a teenager. It was given to my aunt when I moved away . I got it back a couple years ago from my cousin . The light doesn't come on now unsure if anything works yet since I don't have speakers but might turn it into a shelf for my music room if it doesn't work. It's very sentimental to me. Yours is in great condition we wore mine out
I got this record player for my 10th birthday on January 15 1981 in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada. I presume my mother bought this record player for me either at Sears Canada or Eatons or The Bay. I kept it for 10 yrs and then sold it to a friend. I loved that it played 8 tracks and cassettes. I did my first audio recordings on blank tapes immediately and have some still from 1983 singing along with The Beatles.
I had this. Looking at it today, I love how the turntable was isolated on springs, looked like it had a headshell and a counterweight - although they were just decoration - but it LOOKED like a much higher end system than it was.
i used to love these all in one units..they should really bring them back. i would love one for my bedroom
I had this exact unit when I was a kid. I remember that the tuner was great!
I had one of these as a youth. It was my Christmas gift from mom. Been cruising ebay looking for a decent replacement. Thanks for the memories.
I'm surprised it doesn't have the typical BSR idler-wheel record changer on top.
I had one of these as a kid. It originally came with brown speakers that were maybe 18" tall and had a single 4 or 5" driver.
My mother has one that's 50+ years old with the same layout (no 8-track player) made by Panasonic. It has VU meters for both monitoring or recording levels. The knobs, levers and buttons all still work and are solid and tight.
Those aren’t bad at all. There is still one of those somewhere at my parents house. Unfortunately the original speakers aren’t with it. Played records on it a lot back during my teenage years. Sure beats the cheap record and cassette players that are out there now.
I had one of these as a kid. And it was long before 1977. More like 1974-75.
I haven’t tried to play a cassette or a record on mine since the 80s and I don’t think my family ever owned an eight track. But once the speakers settle down (lots of static for about a minute, or when you move the dial) the FM radio is perfect.
We had one of these when I was growing up. Found much music I loved on it. Thanks for the memories.
I had one very similar by MacDonald Instruments. Looks like this JCP could have been manufactured by them. Nice video!
This is a nice stereo. I had gotten one sort of like it when I worked in a computer company almost 40:years ago. Mine did not have eight track but it had cassette and I had lots of records. It was so much fun making my own tapes.
I just bought this for $1 at a "junk" sale, I'm so excited
