  • A typical 1970's "All-in-One" system with AM/FM, Phonograph and 8-track from Sears. My example has the original speakers and owners manual and is in excellent cosmetic condition but needs some work to be fully operational.

I got it for Christmas in 1977, too!!! Twelve years old and I WORE IT OUT!!! Many, many seriously fine days rocking the house!!! Best Christmas present I ever got...EVAHHH! (Also got a whole stack of all the new rock albums that were out) It was a wonderful Christmas and I'll never forget it. Glad I was alive when I was to have lived through all the great music. It's all gone now.

I got this system for high school graduation in 1975. It served me well though college and a few years beyond.

I got that exact same stereo for christmas in 1977. I also got the 8-track soundtrack of Star Wars by the London philharmonic orchestra.

I just got one today at a thrift store 5 bucks mint condition wow it's been a long time since 1977 the original speakers that came with it where they are but I didnt want want them lot of wear on them but not to much but it works fine after I got it home it couldn't have been played much it had a brand new needle cartridge the BSR record player so smooth at the sit down position it's unreal it has for 8-track player and the record player and radio👌🏼 things were made so much better back then I love it because it says Sears I miss Sears don't y'all I think the wear on the speakers was from being put up in storage for so long but all in all it sounds good i hooked it up to some more speakers I have 👌🏼✌

I just like it for the BSR changer. I wish I would have kept mine; they're easy to repair.

I know I mentioned that my parents had this system. It had great output volume for the compact stereo. My dad got my mom this for Christmas 1976. I've never heard an 8 track player sound as good as this one did. Unfortunately, you have the cracked plastic that gives you the crosstalk. It really was loud and sounded relatively clean. It did bite the dust sometime back in 1986. The one side had blown transistors and I tried to repair it. My mistake was not putting the insulator between the collector and chassis ground. I smoked the diodes in the power supply. I was a young kid learning electronics at the time. Had I insulated it, the stereo would have been repaired. I learned for the next time, though.

I still have this stereo in storage, the only thing wrong with it is the BSR turntable's frozen. If I ever get to where I can fix it, radiotvphononut has a tutroial on how to fix these BSRs, so hopefully one day......😉

A fancier version of the one I had. Mine didn’t have channel selector buttons for the tuner, and the 8-track only played, no record.
    Very cool to see!

The 'record' function for 8-Tracks was seriously overrated. They were a pain to get 'set up' properly, and they always seemed to sound really bad compared to the prerecorded ones from the store.

My parents had this one. The worst part about it was the fast record player. That being said, it had the best sounding 8 track player and made excellent tapes. It was surprisingly powerful for being a compact stereo. If it would have had a magnetic cartridge, it would have been perfect. I loved this stereo though. One of the sets of output transistors went.

Hi Dan - I've picked up a few combos over the years. I like the ones that have all, the radio, 8-track, cassette, and record player. I like 'em, but for some reason (at least in my area) they don't sell. So, I only keep one if it can be used myself, or find one that is beautiful shape with all working fine. I'm still looking for one that comes in like that. If I put a turntable and a receiver on Craigslist, it's sold in a week. But those combos.... I just can't sell 'em. Who knows why. Dan, those broken plastic head pieces are a very common problem. A little adjustment can crack them. I've repaired a few and have found the best glue to use is an epoxy that is made especially for plastic. You can get it at ACE hardware. Other glues have not worked well for me over time. This epoxy has held. See ya -- Atco

More modern audio electronics don't sell well here either. A few years ago I was trying to clear out space by getting rid of about one dozen run-of-the-mill radios and cassette recorders from probably the 1970's in working condition. I couldn't sell them on Craig's List. I finally just donated them to Goodwill. Thanks for the 8-Track advice, Atco!

I have one almost exactly the same. The differences are the knob under the power button is actually the power button and the radio part on the top isn’t there. Do you happen to know the model number for the one I am describing.

We had this exact model, but it is from 1976. As typical with BSR changers, it ran too fast.

Best way to repair the plastic is with a spot of crazy glue or plastic glue...the lighting I believe is not LED,, albeit GE first invented the LED in 1962, I don't think the LED was used in consumer applications like this for light (I could be wrong, I think it was more for digital displays such as calculators), this is more likely incandescent bulbs and a green diffuser, some other tricks the mfg would do to change color was to add little color rubber caps to the bulbs themselves and paint the bulbs....

    • @DanOConnorTech
      @DanOConnorTech  8 лет назад

You could be right about the incandescent bulbs, Jack. I don't know why I forgot the easiest probability!

BSR changers make me cringe when they're set at 78. The way they whip the tone arm around and just 'dump' the needle on the record like that....YIKES.
