  • This is what I found at an estate sale. Vintage Soundesign PLL turntable with cassette deck and 8 track. It was beautiful and gorgeous machine. I restored it and enjoyed playing my vinyl collections. Really nice findings for me.

    I had a Soundesign stereo like that back in the early 80's. They were pretty good for a child back in the 1980's. Good memories.

    Very good restoration job, well done. Never had a combo console, just separate components. My parents had a Dual record changer unit; they liked to stack up to 6 or 7 I think was the max; especially Christmas records. I never liked changers because they weren't great for records; the dropping and sliding of two record surfaces. Amazing how all that old grease often turns to glue!

  • @stuckinthetimemachi1

    My 1982 Soundesign Classic Collection console had the exact same record changer. Played the heck out of the whole set for 10 years and enjoyed it very much.

    Nice restoration job on this Soundeisgn. My college dormitory in the early 80's had a lot of these all-in one budget stereos. (Panasonic, Electrophonic, Emerson).

    Nice video!! Just picked a similar model up at an auction. 8 track works fine. Record player wasn’t working though. It is gummed up like yours was. Hopefully a thorough cleaning will be all it needs! Thanks for posting this - it is just what I needed to learn where to start!

    That is truly amazing!
    I have never seen a stereo system with both a cassette deck and 8-track player in the same unit before now.
    Great cleanup and restore all-round. Surprisingly you didn't need to change any caps (e.g. in the power supply) or blown electronic parts (on the main board).

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  6 лет назад +2

      I think I am lucky that most of the vintage electronics I restored did not need to replace caps. But in order to get more high quality sound, I may need to work with that in the future. Thank you!

    I could tell it was a BSR but they used a plastic cam for the reject mechanism hmm! Soundesign was a cheaper brand then others in my opinion! But as long as they weren't using crosley type needles back then! The needles were good on those turntables but they used crystal cartridges that would go bad from time to time! Anyway nice job once again on the restore!

    I'm not sure if anyone told you that you can play the record player without turning on the main power. There is a built in power device that operates through the record player power switch that if you use it, and after record ejects at end of record, when switch pops off, so does stereo.

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  8 лет назад +1

      Hi, I use multi purpose white lithium grease like these.
      amzn.to/2aRoZEK
      Before I also used high speed bearing grease (blue one) to the spindle and platter bearing.
      amzn.to/2alm55N
      But viewers told me that lithium grease is good enough all parts including bearing.
      I also use sewing machine oil, sometimes I mix grease with oil and made it more smooth.
      amzn.to/2aRpPSd
      Hope these info will help your DIY project.

    When you try the turntable, I noticed that the arm with the automatic rises too much.You should adjust the arm lift pin, because in this type of turntable the arm must be in horizontal position.So when the turntable is about to stop, the arm goes down to the stand before the lock catches shut.

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  7 лет назад

      Hi, Alessandro. Thank you for the great information. Next time I will check the tonearm position. Thanks again.

    • @k333ization
      @k333ization 7 лет назад

      Hi Teddy, nothing for information.In the BSR turntable, the arm that rises so much in automatic, goes well in the P163, P182, P200, P204 models.Because in all four models, the arm works horizontally.

    • @k333ization
      @k333ization 6 лет назад

      Hi teddy, the BSR turntable with the plastic plate, using them with the long stick of the disc changer with the passing of time on the disc forms a circular sign.Because when the disc falls on the plate, this sledge on the plate turns.For this reason, the BSR turntables with the plastic plate mounted stereo sound, had the black plastic short pin.

    • @teddyhashee

      The stuck switch will be the result of dried-out old grease. You want to completely remove the dried-out grease and apply new one. Reverse the turntable, follow from the switch to all moving parts, you will see they are seized by the old grease.

    Those speakers seem odd. From the front it looks like maybe an 8" woofer and a 3" mid-range/tweeter. But the description on the back only lists a "3 1/2" Full Range" speaker and a 3 watt power rating. Is the "woofer" actually a passive radiator, or just a dummy? Or is the description on the back just wrong? Either way, the speakers tended to be the weak link on those systems, so an upgrade would probably be worthwhile, though they sound better than the description on the back would suggest. Nice job of restoring the rest.

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  7 лет назад

      +TheRoberx1 Hi. The tonearm is going outside from the platter when you playing record? or When you start auto play, the tone arm will touch down out side of the platter? If your turntable's tonearm has anti-skating adjustment, you can use it to adjust. But I believe yours does not have adjustment. Usually such tonearm won't to goes out from platter while you are playing record. Let me know more detail. teddy

      +Teddy Hashee Thanks for the reply. It is so. I do not see the shift adjustment . It is equal to your bsr . lower arm properly. The problem is that it does not move well , seems a bit harsh, then jump again and again . When it comes to changing groove jumps and stays in the same place . Thanks again for the reply. and your work is excellent . BSR not find the handbook is C197 . Regards.

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  8 лет назад

      +TheRoberx1 Hi, I believe it is from dried-up grease. I saw same symptom before, and after I cleaned all dried-up grease and made free all parts, all parts including tonearm movement became so smooth. You want to remove changer from its body and see the reverse side of the changer. I bet you will find many dried-up grease. You can use q-tips and paint brush, 70 to 10% rubbing alcohol to remove them. Then apply new grease to the parts. My other video shows how to do it, so check them out.
      I hope you can fix your turntable's problem. Teddy

    There is one just like this for $50 at a local antique shop. I want to purchase it but hope somebody who reads this can answer my question...... both the radio and the turntable work, but the volume is turned all the way up and is still pretty quiet - even quieter on the turntable than the radio. Any ideas why and how I could repair??

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  7 лет назад +1

      You want to clean the volume controller as well as balance and other controller. Use contact cleaner something like this one.
      amzn.to/2wzFv4N
      Most of the case, sound will come back as it should be. How to clean, check my other videos. I always got good results. Teddy

    Back in the days of honesty: "3 Watts RMS" on the rear of the speakers. Although it states only one 5" full-range driver, from the front, it looks like there are tweeters. So either they are fake tweeters, or they forgot to list them on the specifications.

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  6 лет назад

      The reverse side of the changer, there is a sticker from original maker. You need to find the model number from it. Also if your tonearm still has its cartridge, inside of the cartridge there is a model number, so it will help you too.

    I've been always told by nutjob audiophiles (then again I'm insulting myself) that you should have separate units for playing like records, cassettes and 8-tracks. I have been proven wrong because this piece of machinery, not only is it beautiful, it sounds great too. Nice work Teddy, you earned yourself a subscriber!

Nothing major, I would just like to record onto cassettes without holding down the record button when I shouldn't have to. Keep up the good work Teddy.

    In general, the BSR turntables of these stereos are equipped with the central short black pin, because there being the plastic plate as long as it changes, the disk is ruined because it slips for a moment before turning when it falls on the plate.
