I saw them in 1979 on this Highway to Hell tour not but several months before Bon Scott died. Saw them in a smaller arena, slightly smaller than this one, and it still is one of the best live rock shows I've ever seen, and believe me I went to to a whole bunch. Just amazing. And at some point this one heavyset bouncer looking guy put Angus Young on his shoulders and literally walked him up and down every stair in that arena through every section. He came right by me and I got his stinging sweat in my eyes from him flipping his head around while he rocked out, and I could see how beat up and battle-scarred his guitar was and all the worn decals and scratches on the back of it. His solo went on for easily 15 minutes. And meanwhile the band was just rocking so hard down on the stage and Bon Scott was always having the audience right in the palm of his hand. He just had that energy coupled with a sense of humor.
I grew up in the punk scene in LA. The first arena rock show I went to was AC/DC on the For Those About to Rock tour for my 16th birthday. Mind blowing. 😊

Thank you for your reaction. It is interesting to watch your two reviews of this song, from performances 30 years apart, and with two different singers. Prior to AC/DC, Bon Scott was in a progressive, folk, & blues band called Fraternity. In those days he was something of a hippie poet, and a prolific letter writer while on tour. Consequently, he had the ability to rhyme without losing the message. His tongue-in-cheek lyrics became a signature feature of AC/DC songs. My point is that I think his vocal performance was perhaps enhanced because he was singing his own carefully crafted (and heartfelt) words.
Bon had been around. I first saw him in a frilly-shirted teeny-bopper band called the Valentines. Bon trying to look cute was disturbing. He was in another hippy/folky band called Fraternity. Can you imagine Bon playing the recorder? These were two completely different personas. Bon was scary wonderful. You've shown your enjoyment of bagpipes. Their "It's a Long way to the Top" has them too. Bon was perfect for AC/DC.
Both singers have great sounds. Bon would be so happy that Brian took over for him. And life long success the guys in the band did. They did it for Bon❤
What a lot of people don’t mention about Bon is that his singing was so effortless. Brian has/had a great voice, but he always looked like he was squeezing out an unflushable.😂
True. The lyrics just flowed out of Bon. Totally effortless, as he winks, smiles, scowls throughout his performances. He and Phil Anselmo are my all time favorite front men. Brian filled a void. I can take him or leave him. RIP Bon Scott🕊
Being an AC/DC fan in my mid teens I was devastated when Bon died, thinking the band was never gonna get back on their feet again. Then when they released "Back in black" I was very sceptic. Remeber I walked into the record store, picked up the album and asked the staff to put it on. 5 seconds after Brian started singing i just smiled and said "I´ll take it" 😍

AC/DC live at the Apollo in 79 was Bons and the bands nearly best live concert ever.Great heartwarming review from an Aussie who saw Bon in 77 last concert in Melbourne
I swear that yo could listen to Bon Scott on wax cylinder and the epic tone of his voice would come through. For me one of the best captures of his personality I'd say the video for Let There Be Rock, see if you can spot the bit where Bon breaks his ankle...
Bon Scott seems to be far more effortless with his vocals then Brian Johnson who always looks to be far more strained with his facial expression when singing. Both are great just two different styles to achieve a similar result.
Bon was a professional singer that could sing....Brian at one time had an amazing voice when he was with the band Gordie....he sounded a lot like Tom Jones.
Definitely heck out more Bon, AC/DC has been my favorite all time band since 1974 , Bon never gets old listening to, Absolutely the Greatest Rock And Roll Frontman there ever was and ever will be
I saw them in the early years. They were playing the Evansville Coliseum in '76 or around then. Bon came out into the audience on the shoulders of the guitar player. The one that always wears short pants. Sweat was flying everywhere, an experience I will never forget.
The Live At Donington concert is an amazing 2 hours, and they did a show called Rock Goes To College back in the day. You can find that whole show on RUclips, and it's incredible.
I was lucky to have seen AC/DC with Bon Scott live about 16 times between 1975-79. He had a mesmerising presence on stage. To me the band died with him. He was AC/DC. Miss you mate.
Bon Scott -best singer to ever exist, best person to ever exist! -A Natural. Thanks from New Zealand Beth -I'd love for you to witness/hear Bon Scot singing in official vdeio's, HQ video's because Bon's voice is AMAZING
Bon will always be the true sound of ACDC for me. Songs like Evil Walks used to blast out of my car stereo all the time. It is a bit like Queen having to replace Freddy, you get a different sound but the songs are so great you still get great music. Interestingly, Queen's first choice for a new lead singer was Australian John Farnham but he did not want to move overseas for family reasons.
Its amazing that this was just another one of their songs, played at just another one of their gigs that just happened to be recorded. I saw them live more than once, this autopsy is remarkable to me,
Bon wrote all the original songs while he was still with us. Saw them 3 times while he was still alive, there was nothing like them. He WAS the band! Angus (the lead guitarist) was just a baby when they started, he was only 16! 😳
I love your reactions, your insightful analysis and knowledge are both first rate. I was just a kid, here in Australia, when these guys were playing the pubs and clubs, before they got really huge. I even had a Rotty x named Bon and like the man himself, that dog was brilliant and I remember being heart broken when I heard Bo Scott had died. The band however didn't fold and in true Aussie fighting fashion, they came back bigger and better than ever. Rock in peace Bon Scott, both of you.
Bon Scott has the advantage of authenticity. Highway to Hell is about the band’s early days in Australia, touring, with long distances on the highway, often to hell-hole towns. Bon Scott lived it. He feels it, and we hear that reality in his voice. Authenticity. And I remember back in the days before AC/DC became internationally famous, blasting AC/DC on my car stereo on long drives down highways in Queensland in tropical heat that created mirages on the road. We could relate to that song.
I saw AC/DC live at the Oakland Coliseum in 1985. I was 12 years old. My first real Rock concert. What I remember besides the incredible crowd was the incredible VOLUME things I had never experienced before!!!! The Volume is something you have to "experience" it's more like something you "feel" because its so loud it shakes your entire body.
I think Bon was the greatest rock singer who ever lived. What an amazing voice, and amazing band. I saw them twice on the Dirty Deeds tour and even early in their career they were something special.
Bon Scott passed so tragically. He was my favorite of the two. With that being said, I think I was in the 8th or 9th grade when Brian joined the band and I don't believe anyone else could have done it. They hit the jackpot when they found Brian Johnson. For example, Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin could never have been replaced. Nobody would have bought it. I love everything AC/DC did after losing Bon. Brian fit the suit in his own way. We all loved it and it just worked thankfully! I love your love of music! Your smile says it all!
They are on tour now, maybe for the last time, fly over to Europe and see them live. They are one of the best live rock shows ever, probably the absolute best live rock band ever. I’ve seen them several times since the 80’s, always top notch performances.
Bon was the personification of the outlaw rock n roller, and made it clever, dirty and FUN. Hands down, thee best rocker frontman out of all the giants from that era.
As good as Brian has been, Bon will always be the definitive AC/DC sound to me and was a tragic loss. As well as being a great vocalist, his song writing was dunny, cheeky and irreverent and often a bit naughty. The official video of 'A touch too much' is a great showcase of that.
I guess the best thing about getting old is to look back and say I saw them live in the late 70s before he died. Guys like Scott, Freddie, and SRV to name a few were taken way too soon. I'm glad people get to see these guys on RUclips. Take care.
UNFORTUNATELY BON SCOTT was gone by the time I saw AC/DC but I liked their............ ENERGY so much I saw THEM 7 times the last time was "STIFF UPPER LIP" what an..... EXCELLENT show and BAND (BON RULES!). ....................NICHOLAOS of TIME!..................
I love both Bon and Brian, and appreciate that there’s others out there who show that appreciation and don’t rate them against each other. That being said, I feel like as good as Bon’s vocals were, with the march of technology, we would have gotten even deeper, richer output if Bon hadn’t passed away, we would be able to hear the best levels of audio quality possible from him as well… just a thought though. No doubt he was great as he was, but it can be easy to think sometimes, what if. Though I’m grateful to have both available to provide ear pleasure, soul pleasure… etc, to me.
I've been an AC/DC fan for over 40 years, and I have to admit it, Ballbreaker is my favorite album. It was when I was just finishing my basic training in the Army that it came out, and it stuck with me.
Bons singing facial expressions were in part to keep some of his false teeth from falling out. He was great! Got to see him in concert before he died. What a future he had ahead lost.
I remember one of their first performances on tv. Bon started playing the bagpipes. He looked like he was laughing while doing it. Other than never having heard bagpipes in a rock song, the fact that he was laughing was great.
I was 9 when Bon died, but I remember being in the car with my parent and hearing it announced on the radio. And yes, I was listening to AC/DC when I was 9 years old. \m/

@@roscoefields-li9cs Bon a professional singer? as in trained? I didn't know that.. i knew he was incarcerated..singing lessons at freo prison?
Definitely heck out more Bon, AC/DC has been my favorite all time band since 1974 , Bon never gets old listening to, Absolutely the Greatest Rock And Roll Frontman there ever was and ever will be
Ms Vocalist your face your voice your smile all blend together it’s like a beautiful melody I could watch you speak all day long
Bon greatest rock n roll singer and lyricist off all time what he put down on vinyl in his short 33 yrs unsurpassed he is the king
-A Natural. Thanks from New Zealand Beth
-I'd love for you to witness/hear Bon Scot singing in official vdeio's, HQ video's because Bon's voice is AMAZING
“Let there be rock” live. With Bon.
I love the show of ACDC live in Paris with Bon Scott 👌👌🎸
We all loved him... RIP Bon.
I think Bon was the greatest rock singer who ever lived. What an amazing voice, and amazing band. I saw them twice on the Dirty Deeds tour and even early in their career they were something special.
It is amazing how all their songs rocked an done with simple vocabulary & lines!
Great review & reaction!..🤘👍
you need to check out AC/DC - Let There Be Rock (Apollo Theatre, Glasgow, April 1978). Bon Scott and Angus Young on FIRE
Bon Scott all day for me - no disrepect to Brian Johnson who is also amazing...but for ME, always Bon!
The real AC/DC. 🖥️(analog MAN )
Bon was the personification of the outlaw rock n roller, and made it clever, dirty and FUN.
Take care.
AC/DC livestream - go for it, I'll be there
AC/DC fan for 40+ years here - 'Highway to Hell' is most definitely in my top 10! 🤘🤘🤘
Watching her critique Highway to Hell is adorable! Talk about compare and contrast!
This was in my hometown Arnhem in Holland, great concert.
Bon was such a great front man, and had the perfect voice for Ac/Dc's hard rock.
Best rock ‘n’ roll band to come out of Australia!!!
This song as many before is Bon’s life sang through his lyrics…nobody will ever sing ‘em as well, especially live.
He was a Rock & Roll Singer 🔥
Saw them in July of '79 at Oakland's Day on the Green. They rocked!
I've been an AC/DC fan for over 40 years, and I have to admit it, Ballbreaker is my favorite album. It was when I was just finishing my basic training in the Army that it came out, and it stuck with me.
No big stage production, just plain Raw, kick ass rock-n-roll. Perfect!
The big difference is bon wrote the lyrics and OWNS THIS
I seen ACDC a few times in Sydney before Bon join the band , he really made it for ACDC success.🔥
Bon was so good. Touch too much is my favourite AC/DC song easily.
Happy heavenly birthday Bon !!
Bon Scott was best singer of all time great range full nice of the voice show them live great music live band them deference in music
Bon was the man. Brian Johnson had his own deal but when it comes to greasy, sleazy front men with a great stage presence and 0 f's, it's Bon Scott!
I've seen ACDC 12 times live. The first two times was with Bon (showing my age). There's not a lot of post production in this.
Yep. These kids don’t realize how good these old bands were. Heck Heart was so good I wood have thought they were lip synching but they weren’t.
Bon was the best and we wouldn't have AC/DC today without him. RIP
The secret behind AC/DC is the beat. They're all on and in it, and never fail. Never.
I hope you have a great week.
Thanks for the reaction, much appreciated.
Bon was an absolute original, he sounded sordid, dirty, funny, pure Rock n Roll.
@mixodorians - And Scottish too...
Bons singing facial expressions were in part to keep some of his false teeth from falling out. He was great! Got to see him in concert before he died. What a future he had ahead lost.
FUck I love that you love Bon so much! He's our Australian Son. Forever Bon. Forever Rock.
