Chillwell Portable AC

  • Chillwell Portable AC is a cool and small AC unit that charges with a USB cable. I can charge it anywhere I can charge my phone. And it actually works! A little, lol. It really blows cooler air, that is about what I expected. Definitely not a room ac unit. But if it's pointed directly on you, it has a cooling effect, so I like it for that.
I have no affiliation with them, but this is their website.

So it's a fan with a slight chill and some cool lights lol. definitely not going to cool an entire room, but if it's pointed directly at you, and is within a few feet, it's fairly comfortable. But absolutely not an air conditioner.

Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

They talked me into a power pack cord 'protector' that was just the PLUG to the thing. You pay separately to actually be able to plug it in and use it. And it was broken. Then there was the warranty that I refused but got charged for anyway, at $40. So we're at $115. And they charged me $176 approximately. How'd they get there? Stealing, that's how. #SCAMALERT

@@FitsandFun no, it isn’t. Just because it didn’t work for you in your life, doesn’t mean it can’t work for anybody else. I live in a place that gets up to and above 115 in the summer. Can get op to to 100 indoors. Because of this, the unit, which I keep next to me, cools the air around me to about 70-75 degrees. Last summer my average bill was $150. I ran central ac for hour or two at night to cool down my room. I used one next to my chair in the day or in the kitchen, and left one next to my bed at night. The previous summer, when I kept the ac set at 75-78 I was paying over $300 a month. Since energy prices have skyrocketed over the last two years it will be considerably more this year. It is only me here, I don’t need to cool the ‘whole room’. Just me and this serves the purpose.

I ordered 2 units early June 2022, decided to return them (never used & in original packaging). Mailed and insured them on June 22nd. They were picked up by Chillwell representative at the Nevada PO on June 25th (I gave the tracking number confirmation). I have called multiple times for my refund and was told the refund would be processed. After the 5th call while waiting for a supervisor to call me back, I was advised that they are getting multiple calls regarding refund issues. The representatives are home based and just trying to do their job. I was advised that Chillwell is having issues with their refund systems and tech is trying to fix it. I finally had to dispute this with my credit card company. Also notified BBB, all this could still take weeks. I would never recommend this company no matter how good the product might be.

It's a swamp cooler. You jump in a pool and you live in Phoenix, AZ. The temperature is 91 with a dew point of 45. The Heating Index is 87. You live in Columbus, GA. Temperature is also 91, however, the dew point is 70. That's a Heat Index of 97. This thing won't work to cool a room let alone a 400 square foot room unless the dew point is low enough for the water to become a vapor and absorb the heat as it does thus the air becomes cooler. This isn't new. In humid locations for AC to work efficiently it must remove water vapor which is seen as condensate outside dripping from the unit. Same principle with a dehumidifier. 80 degrees with a dew point of 55 is a relative humidity of 42%...very comfortable. 80 with a dew point of 75 is miserable. Again not new science.

How well do this things work?
It depends on the environment you use it in.
If you are in a well ventilated area that is a little too warm it will make a noticeable difference if it is within about 3 feet of you.
If, however, you are in a room or area with no ventilation and hot air is trapped inside that area, forget it, the ice will melt and it will blow room temperature air on you.
    Bottom line.

Of course it's cool, it's like somebody blowing air over ice water on you. It's a fan with just about the cheapest kind of radiator possible. I grew up in a trailer that had a bigger version of the same exact thing in place of an air conditioner. I have no idea what it was really called, but everyone I knew called it a cooler. You put cool water (just pumped from your well) in the bottom of it and a fan blew the air over it through the trailer. It had removable panels on the sides that were bent metal frames that you packed full of hay - I guess to slow the air down and force it to stay walled in with cool water for a while? Sometimes we put bags of ice in it. Anyway, same thing. The huge fan in it moved a whole lot more air than the fan in this new thing ever could, but it still sucked. There's a reason people use air conditioners. The only reason we used that for a while was because we were poor and it cost ever little to run. It could have been from the 1940s or something for all I know.

I got about an hour with the fan in high and the turbo mode on. But even then it has to be very close to feel cool. On normal high I get almost 2 hours, but it wasn't very effective. It's relaxing, but not cold. More like slightly chilled air.

I just received mine. Like you, it shut off after an hour. Can it run continuously charged? Athough I'm thinking the cartridge would not be as chilled and ice water would need to be refreshed and therefore less effective unless you have back up cartridge on hand. Oh well, live and learn! Still nice to have for a quick cool down during hot summer days and nights.

Don't buy them. Watch my updated reviews. They do not cool a room. They are personal fans, not AC units.

You know it's a bad product when they spend more time changing light colors than how long it lasts.

Lol. I was definitely more impressed with the lights than I was with the cooling capabilities. It's a nightlight with a fan, not an ac unit.
