    Episode Notes:
    1. Captured on real hardware.
    2. Games that support progressive scan are using it here.
    3. There are a handful of Japanese releases I chose not to cover because I don't own them and they have heavy Japanese text.
    4. The Gamcube was one of Nintendo's least successful mainstream consoles. Selling a little over 20 million units, only the Wii U was worse.
    5. The Gamecube had a huge problem with 3rd party support. Sega wasn't the only one to slow releases after 2003.
    6. Gamecube collecting has become incredibly expensive. Some of the more rare games can be prohibitively expensive. Even a complete copy of something like Skies of Arcadia is up over $100 now.
    7. Please note that The Ooze and Comix Zone were only available in the Japanese release of Sonic Mega Collection. I initially overlooked that until someone in the comments brought it up.

It was thanks to the Gamecube that I got my fill of some Sega goodies on that system. It was around that time when I went through two, maybe three, Dreamcast consoles due to one issue or another before our family picked up a Gamecube. It was nice to have experienced some Dreamcast ports like Skies of Arcadia (Sega’s last great RPG, in my opinion) and Phantasy Star Online on the purple machine.
Even better was seeing that partnership between Nintendo and Sega for F-Zero GX, and boy, I wish we could get another entry in that series. I think it’s worth noting with that game is that it’s one of a good handful of Gamecube released titles that supports a widescreen aspect ratio. So worth it!

Gamecube got some pretty good games by Sega, definitely one of the strongest third parties on the system (especially from Japan) but at the same time is hard not to see that it got the short end of the stick by them, since it missed some of their multiplatform titles like those sports sims from 2003 and 2004 as well as Outrun 2006, got less exclusives than the other 2 and it also lost more exclusives, since there were very few Xbox and PS2 exclusive games by Sega that ended up ported to other systems, but that's not the case with the GC which lost Mega Collection or Monkey Ball.

I am so glad I got most of these over a decade ago before GameCube prices shot up. I payed $20 for Skies of Arcadia Legends and now it's over ten-times that.
Out of curiosity, do you think Sega could have turned things around for the company if they did everything right with the Dreamcast (DVD player included, not lose EA support, and prevent the massive privacy)? The company was in really bad straights by then and I don't know.

FZero GX is probably the best thing they did as a third part dev. They got the chance to work on a classic IP that wasn’t one of their own, but in a genre that they have a very rich history. Everything about it is great and that is probably one of the factors behind them not continuing the series after it. Which is a huge shame for the series, but Nintendo desperately needs to remaster GX and put it on the switch.

As someone who started gaming in the late 80s, the idea that Sega would develop games for a Nintendo console was mind-blowing. Fzero gx was the absolute pinnacle of their efforts. As someone who grew up loving Nintendo. I now realise how important Sega is to gaming. We desperately need them back developing consoles. They brought such a unique flavour to gaming that's sadly missing.

The idea of Sega making games for Nintendo consoles was nothing new though. Sega was making games for Nintendo consoles back then too as both Shinobi and Space Harrier were released for NES in 1989. Sega was as good a third party dev back then even releasing Golden Axe and Altered Beast for the PC Engine as well as Lady Stalker, Thunder Force 3, and Columns for Super NES with Lady Stalker still a Sega Super NES exclusive to this very day. Also Sega mentions time and time again that they don't want to make consoles anymore as there is no point in making one and they aren't sure what new things they could bring to the table that the other 5 (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Atari, and EverCade) already did.

Loved the Gamecube. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Phantasy Star Online were probably my two most played games on the system (thousands of hours between the two of them). My wife and I played them both together quite a bit, especially PSO and the Chao Garden in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. It's worth mentioning that not only did both those games have the GBA connectivity feature, but you could actually unlock stuff in PSO with the GBA content from Sonic. F-Zero GX was actually the result of a threesome with Nintendo, Sega, and Namco (the same partnership that built the Mario Kart Gran Prix multi-cabinet arcade racer), and you could bring your Gamecube memory card to the arcade and use your data on the cabinet and vice versa. NCAA Basketball 2K3 is actually one of the priciest games in the North American Gamecube library nowadays...
