      Same here. And in not a drummer. My brother had a kit when i was about 16 and i just found the drums tough. But I love the way Emma breaks down everything. She’s seems a really good teacher. Unfortunately im 44 now so picking up the drums is a step too far for husband and kids to bare😂

    Important to know that a lot of this differs with each piece and between genres. Especially the ride and hi hat I see the other way all the time, and often I see the snare on the note b on the stave in treble.

    This is pretty helpful, but not everyone writes the hi-hat the same way. I usually use an x on the top space within the staff for open, and the space above the staff for a closed hi-hat. I also put the hi-hat pedal on the space underneath the staff. This is also the default way that MuseScore charts drum voicings.

    I'm gonna be honest... I've played drum for 7 years now, I'm 15. The toms are put everywhere. The lowest in the kick 2 top circles are the toms second lowest is floor and the snare is the one that is just the most logical. That's how I remember it. What is the most logical.

    This is incredibly accurate however the symbols used (not the placement of the notes) are subjective depending on the person writing the music (please don’t come after me I play the drums in a band this is just stuff I have picked up along the way)

    Just discovered your channel… Fantastic! But you’re too good of a musician to lower your standards and refer to your base drum as the “kick.” Please don’t let no-nothings co-opt our musical lingo, like the so-called “singer” of the first band I was in. He assumed I was a non-musician as well, so he thought what I did was kick my drum. I don’t see it that way. As a musician, do you find yourself kicking your drum, or operating the pedal attached to the bass drum with a sophisticated musical technique?
    Keep up the good work… Thanks!

      Maybe not “necessary”, but why wouldn’t you want to be the best at your craft ? Having the ability to sight read… allows you the opportunity to site in on any session and play the piece the way it was written…

    • @ericjencson9489
      @ericjencson9489 6 месяцев назад

      @briancfullen4062 I guess maybe it depends on the genre. Most drummers doing popular music don't read music. Guitar players aren't reading a lot of music either.

    • @briancfullen4062
      @briancfullen4062 6 месяцев назад

      @@ericjencson9489 I think you’re making an assumption that they don’t or can’t read music. However, my point stands… those who want to be the best at their craft take the time to learn how to read music. Most professional musician can and do read music.
