  • Hear my thoughts on this Merlin theme park located in Northern Germany. The park is home to numerous roller coasters, including Krake, Flug der Dämonen, and Colossos (which I unfortunately did not get to ride).

Heidepark was founded by a guy who was the best friend of the founder of Europapark in Rust (southern Germany) (Family Mack --> Mack Rides). So in the beginning all the rides were built by Mack Rides. Like the Europapark the Heidepark was focused on families. The landscaping, trees, flowers were in perfect order and just beautfiul. They had a mascots like the Europapark (you can see them at the walls of older toilets in the park). When Merlin bought the park from the family of the founder they started to transform the Heidepark. They started to incorporate IP of big companys and the old identity (and the mascots) was tossed away. When you have been to the Europapark you could imagine what the Heidepark used to be.

agree 100%! Heide Park has lost a lot of its charme over the last years. like you said, it was pretty similiar to Europa Park, the themes were similiar and way more cohesive with a dutch part, the Heide village, the USA area around the lake, the bavarian mountains and so on...

      Hello stranger,
I am planning on visiting this park next year and I was wondering if I need to take two days or isn't it necessary? I'm planning on a mini trip Heide park - Djurs sommerland - Liseberg and doing all three one day per park would be ideal but not sure if it's enough for Heide Park. Would you advice two days or not?
      Thanks in advance!

@@therealinfernape4720 eyyyy Djurs sommerland too!! I think i can reply you that one as well since i have visited these parks! If you Are There in the high season, then i would say you need 2 days in Liseberg at least! Maybe 1 and a half in heide:) you can do Djurs in one Day thought! Its not massive but I love it! My favorite park in My country! I Hope your gonna like it:)

Villas Byrne Hey Villas, Thanks for the response and the advice! Can it get so crowded in Liseberg? Seeing their coaster line-up, I didn’t expect you need 2 days there. I wanted to add that I’ve already visited Djurs once but quite some years ago, so it seemed to be a good stop between Heide and Liseberg. Plus I won’t visit the parks during weekends, if that would matter alot.

The Real Infernape You could definitely spend two days in Heide Park but if you’re only there for a day that would be enough too. I took my spanish exchange student there and I went there on a field trip with my class. Both times we were only there for a day and we had enough time to do anything we wanted. ( btw definitely to Krake. That’s my favorite one)

I was there last fall and while there's nothing wrong with Colossos it's definitely not as good as advertised. The first drop and the first hill are great, but after that airtime is scarce. There's also a really drawn out helix towards the end of the course that is forceless.

I'm surprised that you especially mentioned the ride ops wearing themed clothing, when I visited Heide Park every ride op at every attraction was wearing the same blue Heide Park shirt, except for the Flug der Dämonen ops. I know you visited Phantasialand as well and the ride ops at this place definitely got different, themed clothing at every attraction, really stands out.

Ever since Hansa Park opened Kärnan I skip Heide Park. I used to visit Heide Park at least once a year but one of the major rides was always down due to technical issues. They also took down a lot of fun flat rides without adding proper replacements. Many people dislike the park for what it became. The only reason I might go again is Colossos and Kraken, well and Flug der Dämonen because I didn't have the Chance to go on a wing coaster yet.

Just got back from here, Colossos is a must ride coaster. Literally has the best drop on any coaster. The ride ops dont push down on the lap bars, they just pull up so they wont staple you. The drop is better than steel vengeance, I cant even explain it. To sum up go there asap to marathon it. There was a 2 hour wait, but the single rider line is almost always a walk on.

As German it's nice to see that you had fun in Heide Park. Alot of germans are bashing the park, because it has some flaws. However I actually like the park, obviously it is not as great themed as other Parks like Phantasialand or Europa Park, but it still got nice spots and some really nice coasters. It's a nice park, maybe not the best, but you can have really much fun there. And when you know that they have some really awesome deals. you pay just 50€ for a night in one of there Hostel style Hotels with two day entrance and food included... Thats basically a steal.
Considering that it is an amazing park.
About the color of the coasters, I assume it's about law. We have general speaking really strict rules concerning building things. One aspect is the view of the skyline. All the coasters on top of the hill are White, because that won't "disturb" the view.

Colossos and Flug der Damonen are two cool rides. Both have amazing theming and the soundtracks that i'm a fan of. I did get a bit stapled on my first ride, but when i got back on later, i had quite a lot of airtime. "A spectacular view" at the top of Colossos.

one thing that was pretty memorable to me, at Heide Park, is the soundtracks. They were very loud, especially around flüg der dämonen, and it really added to the theme, ambiance and general experience. Man, not riding Colossus.. that is rough... I am from Germany and I went to Six Flags Magic Mountain during my ONLY USA trip and X2 was closed due to weather... I feel you... I wanted to ride that coaster so badly. Also Heide-Park opened in 1978, back then, the concept of theme parks wasn't very much a thing here, so it started out as a mixture between some themed places, some small rides and lots and lots of nature and garden areas. That's why it looks so unique compared to some other parks. It's also a shame that they basically do not theme most of their rides. Especially the older ones and the thrill rides like Top-Spin, the older coasters like Big Loop and others have absolutely no theming on them at all. All the specific theming only started rather recently. Before that it was only stuff like "Netherlands" or "Denmark" etc. so that's why the newer themed areas like Ghost Busters or HttyD feels a little out of place.

Also colossus is running again and that coaster is an airtime machine with incredible speed. I really hope you get to visit hyde park again. Its my home park and they did very good the last 3-4 years. They recently redid the vekoma SLC. It now has good theming and they fixed some of the rattling

I got to ride the reopened Colossus last year, it is one of the largest wooden coasters in the world and an amazing coaster, but in the end my favorite ride in the park was actually Flug der Dämonen. I don‘t know if its worth returning just for the Colossus, especially because of the huge waiting time the coaster has. In the evening the waiting time isn‘t to bad.
There is one park in Germany I can absolutely recommend you to return to... It is Tripsdrill. They have 2 new coasters this year and one of the 2 is absolutely amazing. Their theming is going to be finished next year however.

12 Years ago the park was completely different compared to today. In the middle of the lake was a half size version of the Statue of Liberty, the "How to train your dragon" area was a Americane style area, the Ghostbusters attraction was a Lego shop and some smaller versions of a mississippi steamer.
In the moment they tear off the big panorams tower that was part of the park since 34 years. Merlin is somehow destroying this park....

The German people commenting have all been very nice in not being horrified by your pronunciations. German is not an easy language, but the e's at the end of their words are NOT silent. Nor do they sound like "eeee", or this would be Heidi Park. Make an "uh" sound and you're close enough. Just remember "Thank you" in German: "Danke", a word that even Americans who haven't been to Germany know. So it's HIGH-duh Park. And KRAWK-uh, which is very close to KRAKEN, which would explain the big tentacled monster attacking that ship. There is literally only one letter difference!
Now that I've lectured you so mercilessly, no German expects someone who isn't fluent in German to correctly pronounce a letter with an umlaut. Or a word with "ch" in it. Or any word with more than three syllables. I've been to Germany a lot and I still commit homicide on all this stuff. (I'm still not sure how to pronounce Dämonen!) They realize how ridiculous some of their language is and they are mostly good-natured about it.

    Hey,
nice video about one of Germany´s best parks (in my opinion, for sure;)). I worked there as an operator last year and I´ve also seen your "Just how fast are Heide Park´s operations" video. I really liked that you think we are very fast :). And I´m glad that you liked the operator´s costumes at Flug der Dämonen, because you´re one of the few guests that won´t make some silly jokes about it. And btw, I can confirm that Colossos is the best ride at Heide Park ;)

I totally agree with your review. However, since Heide Park is my home park I want to add that the park itself was better 10 years ago. Whereas rides like flug der dämonen and krake are great additions, the park closed its most beautiful section the 'heide dorf' which encorporates this 'medival' entrance style. Instead the entire entry section has been ignored and the focus on the lake section caused the park to feel smaller than it actually is. In addition to this great rides like the second log flume have been closed. All those changes caused the park to loose its identity, which was based on the local culture and architecture. Instead the park has now an incoherent mess of different themes which are poorly executed. Therefore, I am confident that you would have liked the park better 10 years ago, despite lacking some of the current coasters, due to the better structure and atmosphere.

now i am not the biggest fan of heide park, still a nice one but yeah this might be a bit biased
5:27 i think this is due to the history of this park. the park was originally created by the son of the guy who wanted to run the europa park together with the mack family, before he died unexpectidly. so the early park had close connections to both europa park and mack rides leading to simmilar attractions and a simmilar "vibe". this continued until 2001 when the park was aquired by the tussauds group, which itself was aquired in 2007.
so in the past 20 years the park was under constant changing of ownership leading to no clear vision or direction for the park. merlin entertainent also doesnt seem quite as willing to make big investments into heide park as they are, for example, alton towers. the recent edition of property based rides was likely a decision by merlin entertainment as the first property based ride wasn't opend until 2016

Living about a 5 hour drive from Heide Park, I visit there once every couple of years. I enjoy every stay there. But I do agree it's not a stand out park. With Efteling, Toverland and Phantasialand all a lot closer to home, it's not a park I would go to every year.
They do have am agreement with dreamworks I'd think. Last time I was there, there was a circus show from Madagascar 3.
The rides are all pretty good. Only like in most parks, the vekoma coasters could use the newer trains. The bobsled coaster is one of the better ones of it's kind. Together with the one in Parc Asterix. I'm definitely looking forward to my visit in august to ride Colossos again.
If you ever visit there again, look for promotions on it's website. We were lucky to get a really nice deal on a hotel+tickets package.

When I was a kid I went to Heide Park almost every year with my parents and I loved it because there was something for everyone. But since Merlin took over the park (and I know it already belonged to Tussauds before that, but there the former owner had some influence) the park pretty much lost its soul and heart. Almost every attraction aimed on children that I grew up with was torn down and not even replaced by something else. It was never a very tightly themed park, more like every ride had its own theme, but they were nice. They put a lot of heart in them, especially the Heide-Dorf and, as I said, I loved it as a kid so they must have done something right. Today it seems more like a stationary Oktoberfest with half-hearted decorations that's only there to make profit. I go there only for the rollercoasters, they are great. But If I had any children, Heide Park would not be my first choice for them.
At Europa Park and Phantasialand for instance - as was the case at Heide Park until Merlin bought it - you can see that they are famliy businesses because they put so much effort and love in every detail. Heide Park, on the other hand, has become just another corporate asset that is treated only for maximum revenue, so everything but the rides themselves becomes mediocre, as you mentioned in your review. Very sad...

Ive noticed that nearly all the coasters at worlds of fun are red! Why would parks make their coasters all the same color? Takes away from the beauty and identity of each coaster

Here in Germany it is at least because of few really famous writers. Karl May has written alot of stories. kinda hilarious that he got in Prison for beeing an impostor and used his time there to write some books. Today we would say he was mentally ill and he wasn't able to differentiate between reality and fiction. However his adventures he has written are still today classic books for children. And when you grew up with a certain view on that theme you like it.

Next they we had additional 30 minutes as camping guests, but left around 15-16. But it turned out that we actually had done most of the rides on the first day(but still I wanted to do them more😅). Believe me Colossos sucks (-> Colossucks?) and reaaaallly don't worth a trip there, even more if you have limited and counted times in Europa, even if you want to visit HansaPark and its on your way . As you said it well in your video, there's something meh in this park, from the gestion and the rides, this kind of typical Merlin "wedon'tcareaboutyourtimehere" short rides long waits but i admit the scenery is beautiful. Best ride is Flug der Daemonen and its not that fantastic.
