Let's not forget that she is not imitating Julie Andrews. She is just singing the way she does, wondefully. I became a huge fan of her work after seeing the Phantom of the Opera at the Albert Royal Hall. Amazing perfomermer.
I personally think she *was* imitating Julie Andrews, she just blended it with her own voice and made it sound natural. I don't think it would have been anything wrong if she *was* imitating her
the nice thing about the lockdown, that is staying at home, is that you have all the time to watch and listen to well-known broadway musical. i was initiated with these kind of stuff when i was in grade 6, 1960. the movie was south pacific, starring mitzi gaynor and rossano brazzi. from then, my love and fascination to it, lingers up until this time of my retirement age of 72. honestly, i could probably have seen them all , perhaps only the best
I loved South Pacific!! Mitzi Gaynor was fabulous in that!!! Rossano Brazzi too, although I always thought his singing might have been dubbed. (He denied.)
DEAR Madame Sierra Bogges with the orchestra and Chorus, thanks for your talents and exciting beautiful performance of this unforgetyable song, best greetings to You from Maciek Malas from the City of Katowice Upper Silesia Province of Poland Europe, still loving You and your talents ❤❤❤❤❤😂
While waiting for Ms. Boggess to perform, I note the performance of the female chorus....a tip of the hat ladies; it was lovely. Sierra Boggess should have been given the role by NBC...Carrie Underwood, well, she's a darling girl, but this was not the role for her. If they do "Annie, Get Your Gun," Carrie Underwood would be perfect.
Jo-Anne Zeidenberg Thank you. I was taken by enormous surprise! I had a lot of ideas on what iconic roles Laura could take on. Being as she's a mezzo and prefers to belt. I didn't think Maria was a good match. No need to be concerned. She nails it in her own fashion. :)
Wow! Such respect for the choir! I remember watching The Sound of Music as a child, and being touched deeply by the nuns singing at the beginning. These talented women do it justice. So much respect!!
For goodness sake, will all you pernickety people stop comparing this performance to Julie Andrews. This concert was a celebration of the music of Rogers & Hammerstein and NOT a lets compare this performance to Julie Andrews performance 50 years ago. Why not just comment on what you can hear from this wonderful Singer & Amazing hand picked Orchestra.
Although Sierra is a beautiful & exquisite singer, she is too operatic to be Maria. Dame Julie Andrews had character , soul & humor in her singing movie role as the nun/ governess and her expressions were priceless. Julie not only sings so well, but her character’s personality is strongly reflected in the singing role she is portraying, whether it is Eliza Doolittle, Cinderella, Guinevere, Mary Poppins or Maria. And the same goes that I could not imagine Julie being in Phantom, as Sierra is the perfect Christine, besides Sarah. Of course, that is just my humble opinion. (so sad on the loss of Dame Julie’s gift of her musical voice).
She is a soprano but not a coloratura soprano, so she cannot sing opera. She is often out of tune, and no one in this world can sing this song better than Julie Andrews. Sierra is not better than Julie, no one is.
Yahhhh... I fear we don't have the talent in Hollywood any more to take on a project like a "Sound of Music" remake... I think they'd destroy it... I'm worried about the "Dune" remake...
One of the best main titles EVER arranged... and played. They actually sounded just as good as the orchestra from 20th Century-Fox under Irwin Kostal...not an easy task.
First time seeing this wonderful young singer. This is the only singer I've ever seen sing this role who's made me want to see someone other than Dame Julie take on the roll. If only they would tour London casts internationally!
Ellie Tuckwell Exactly. And that is the whole point. Carrie is/was surrounded by trained, ( even the children ), stage performers, as is Sierra.. So that makes it so much more apparent on Carrie. And yes, Sierra would have been a better choice, but aside from POTO fans, Carrie is much more well known. Aside from that, Carrie did a very respectable performance, considering it was her first stage performance, and before millions at that. It's two different genres of music. And since it was / is a movie, retakes and retakes and retakes can be done until it can be exactly right. In live theater, there is only performance and cannot be 'smoothed over' until it is perfect. And by the way, Mary Matlin did that Sound of Music for 6 years on Broadway before Julie Andrews made the movie. Very well done Carrie!!!!
Ellie Tuckwell Not yet, but please remember and never forget that the live performance of Sound of Music was her very first foray into this genre. For a singer with zero prior experience in musical theater, I thought it was actually superb. Given time, she may well excel in it.
Soloist was amazing, but what got me what the enthusiasm of the strings when they begin to play my favorite things! Watch if you did not notice it. They are semi-dancing and playing and moving all over the place in their seats. Was lovely to watch.
I absolutely LOOOOOVE Julie Andrews and anyone that has ever sang any of her songs from any of her movies, I have never thought halfway lived up to her class or her talent. Until this lady. This was absolute perfection and as close to Julie as anyone could get. That was wonderful. I would love to hear her sing all of the songs from the movie. She would have been way better in the live TV version back a few years ago than Carrie Underwood was.
Lyn Byrd I know you commented like, a year ago but you should totally see if there’s an orchestra near you! Sometimes there’s even symphonies and even high schoolers can be super talented. I was in band as a kid and even played professionally. It’s so nice to have people interested in music come listen to us! As for listening for more of Sierra Boggess’s work, please do check out Phantom of the Opera 25th anniversary! You can get it on DVD or amazon video. It’s amazing and she plays Christine Daae.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and rattle some cages. As much as I respect and adore Julie Andrews, I think Sierra is just as good. They should have played her for the NBC version of Sound of Music.
I like like Sierra's version of The Lusty Month of May better (but honestly that might just be the director letting her get her ho on a bit). For SoM I still gotta give it to the queen of Genovia.
She is very good, but she lacks the distinctive quality that Julie Andrews has in her voice. Musical fans can usually recognize Julie Andrews singing in an instant. I don't think the average person would be able to tell as quickly that this voice, though quite lovely, is Sierra's.
Loved it so much!!!!! It's her character and her expressing the song that makes me want to watch her singing again and again. There are who sing high notes and can sing technically good as sierra but there is something in her that others dont have.
Sierra is American, born in Denver Colorado. However she is one of the few Americans who can sing with a good English accent. She also has another 'link' with Julie - her birthday is on the 20th of May (also known to musical theatre buffs as Eliza Doolittle day!)
This was spectacular!!! She added something new to the song and I loved it especially when she emphasized certain words comically but not where it was disrespectful, it was amazing!!!
Once again, Sierra Boggess is sweet and lovely as she interprets Julie Andrews. I'm so delighted that she has "con' fee-dence," but I'm aching to hear Andrews sing it.
I just ~hate~ the way the BBC cuts off these videos after maybe one second of applause. Part of the experience of these great performances is hearing the crowd's reaction. No reason at all to cut them so abruptly.
Now it is 2020. Sierra as Maria and Ramin as Captain von Trapp would be a dream come true Sound of Music!
please please please !!!!
omg
Someone make this happen!
Brilliant!
Sierra and Ramin just need to be in a remake of EVERYTHING!
Broadway NEEDS to revive the Sound of Music and have Sierra play Maria!
Both Broadway and Hollywood.
Beautiful and emotional music that uplifts your soul!
Let's not forget that she is not imitating Julie Andrews. She is just singing the way she does, wondefully. I became a huge fan of her work after seeing the Phantom of the Opera at the Albert Royal Hall. Amazing perfomermer.
One could do a lot worse, however, than to imitate Julie Andrews.
I personally think she *was* imitating Julie Andrews, she just blended it with her own voice and made it sound natural. I don't think it would have been anything wrong if she *was* imitating her
Is there anything this woman cannot do? She never ceases to amaze me.
couldn't agree more!!! ❤ Sierra is a spellbinding goddess!!!
I would LOVE to see her play Maria
+Rachel Hughes She is in something new .... playing the School Teacher in the School of Rock on Broadway.
Cool.
She should have played Maria on the most recent Sound of Music rather than Carrie Underwood.
NewMeToday22 Amen to that.
Rachel Hughes n

@@marygracehughes7455 It was dubbed, by Enzio Pinza, the Metropolitan Opera bass who originated the role on Broadway with Mary Martin.
Haha she sang in British accent just like Julie Andrews. Love her talent and personality. Such a lovely singer :)
The first thing I ever heard from Sierra was Sound of Music tunes, and I thought she was British. LOL
Hybrid, more American than British - Americans think that anyone with enunciation is playing British!
No such thing as a British accent lol!
@@coryross6597 British accent = any of the accents spoken within the British isles. Just like American accent = any of the accents spoken in the USA.
@@coryross6597 Well don't keep us in tenterhooks, Jamie. What would you call it, a posh London accent?
Ramin and Sierra- please -The Sound of Music
Yes, please!
Oh God, Yes please...make this happen
I'm happy for discover that I'm not the only that think that Ramin could be a perfect Georg Von Trapp.
Yes, please!!!!
Ramin Karimloo as Captain Von Trapp + Sierra Boggess as Maria Von Trapp = PERFECTION😍❤
Julie Andrews would be proud
agreed
She was probably watching live. She might even have been in the audience. :D
emily schwellenbach definately
DEAR Madame Sierra Bogges with the orchestra and Chorus, thanks for your talents and exciting beautiful performance of this unforgetyable song, best greetings to You from Maciek Malas from the City of Katowice Upper Silesia Province of Poland Europe, still loving You and your talents ❤❤❤❤❤😂
In the world of vocal music, Sierra is a treasure. Her voice is a truly beautiful instrument.
While waiting for Ms. Boggess to perform, I note the performance of the female chorus....a tip of the hat ladies; it was lovely. I agree with your more than you could imagine
Anna-Jane Casey is the best choice for Annie get Your Gun. She has actually done it.
Randy Patton I agree
When Sierra performs, I feel like I am discovering the music for the first time
We need sierra as Maria and Ramin as the captain ASAP
Can you believe a lot of young people have never heard of let alone seen the Sound of Music? How sad:(
My hat's off to the lady's in the choir..... BEAUTIFUL!
ladies

Whether she is better than Julia Andrews or not, I don't know. But up to this moment she is definitely a singer for musical only.
Sorry, I just can't help it. I've only seen the move 6, 435 times!!
Agreed and how!
She is a soprano but not a coloratura soprano, so she cannot sing opera. She is often out of tune, and no one in this world can sing this song better than Julie Andrews. Sierra is not better than Julie, no one is.
Sierra is the closest to perfection (after Dame Julie Andrews, obviously)

Yahhhh... I fear we don't have the talent in Hollywood any more to take on a project like a "Sound of Music" remake... I think they'd destroy it... I'm worried about the "Dune" remake...
38 people give a thumbs down??? Whaaaaaaat????
This is amazing. Sierra would make a perfect Maria.... Julie Andrew would approve.... Very much....
Maria Llamanator there's no pleasing some people it was great
Maria Llamanator 48 now.....maybe they don't like the musical.

Closest to julie andrews out of anyone.

the orchestration!!
Sierra Boggess in the sound of Music please🙏
Yes and Ramin as Von Trapp
Julie Andrews will always be my favorite Maria but Sierra fits the role fabulously :D
I totally agree

I saw it on stage with Petula Clark playing Maria. I thought that she was great in the role.
This is so perfect. Her voice, her acting, just perfect.
First time seeing this wonderful young singer. This is the only singer I've ever seen sing this role who's made me want to see someone other than Dame Julie take on the roll. If only they would tour London casts internationally!
Sierra Boggess is more than worthy to carry the torch of Julie Andrews has passed to the next generation. Carrie Underwood, not so much.
Agreed. Carrie Underwood is talented, but she's not a musical theater performer.
Ellie Tuckwell Exactly. And that is the whole point. Carrie is/was surrounded by trained, ( even the children ), stage performers, as is Sierra.. So that makes it so much more apparent on Carrie. Lol. Beyoncé ...har har har....Kidding , ( Couph )
Sierra is not only the worthy successor to Dame Julie, but Sarah Brightman as well......she is a PHENOMENAL Christine Daae......
Oh my gosh I always get chills with the orchestra at the beginning. I LOVE the Sound of Music!
The overture here is electric.
She would make an excellent Maria in Sound of Music! I would pay just to see her preform the musical! Very well done! Brava! Brava! Bramissiva!
The Proms is sponsered by the BBC. This is John Wilson and the John Wilson Orchestra. I think they are the Boston Pops of the Twenty First Century.
Goosebumps overload! Orchestration incredible, Sierra Boggess simply oustanding, what an unbelievable talent she is!
Please, Sierra, don't get nodes. :( I would die if I had to live my life without hearing your beautiful voice singing new songs all the time.
She won't; she has excellent technique, and as long as that doesn't change, she could sing like this into her eighties without hurting anything. :)
0:29 , man, the harp is so beautiful!
She is amazing, easily the most talented Women in the West End Today by far.
But let's not forget about Audra McDonald who brings her art to life and takes theatre to a whole new level.
But let's not forget about Audra McDonald who brings her art to life and takes theatre to a whole new level.
At the top of my bucket list is to meet Sierra Boggess. I must/I must
Reminded me a lot of Julie Andrews! I wish she would have played Maria in the Sound of Music Live thingy. :)
Yeah I love Carrie Underwood but she can't act to safe her life. I'm in awe of Sierra though.
Actually no one sounds like Julie Andrews, and doesn't need to. More of a West End Christine or a Cossette. But it is an excellent performance.
Philharmoniker Fan ok
Damn that orchestra is amazing.

Lyn Byrd I think her MERRY MONTH OF MAY is even better.
Sierra would make an excellent Maria in Sound of Music.
The genius of Rodgers and Hammerstein will never be equaled. Truly, that collaboration will inspire till the end of time.
i haven't read all 500 comments, but let's not forget they're using Irwin Kostal's Oscar-winning arrangements. gorgeous!
Fantastic delivery with "Wake up!"
We really need a Sound of Music revival. We really need Sierra to be Maria.
I love the movie. I’m singing along in my head as I’m on the bus watching this lol
omg that choir though!!! She is amazing too!!!
I'm going to go out on a limb here and rattle some cages. As much as I respect and adore Julie Andrews, I think Sierra is just as good. They should have played her for the NBC version of Sound of Music.

What's wrong with her voice it is hers and she has wonderful control over it!For you experts out there no two voices are ever the exact same!!!
You are absolutely right.
Sierra is a perfection!!! She's so versatile...her voice and even her looks can fit into different characters she would play. Love her!!!
Terrific singing by Sierra Boggess.
Sierra should be in movies too, she is an amazing actor as well as singer!
Harp is the most beautiful music instrument for sure!
Loved it so much!!!!! It's her character and her expressing the song that makes me want to watch her singing again and again. There are who sing high notes and can sing technically good as sierra but there is something in her that others dont have.
Sierra + The Sound of Music = couldn't hardly resist to push my like button to her and her music!
Julie Andrews is a hard act to follow ,but that was just lovely darling well done i loved it xx
I'd like to see her play Maria one day.
Can I just point out how amazing the beginning was WOW sounded exactly like the movie version!!!
My favorite Christine, Ariel, and EVERYTHING!
What a TALENTED Performer is Miss Boggess!!!
I would pay anything to see Sierra and Ramin in this together!!💕
I love her voice....I'm just in love with her voice
Sierra is so magic! She inspires me every single day!!❤
Nice to be taken back to the early sixties, I think it was. Rogers and Hammerstein were the masters then . Sounds even better now. Thanks a million.
There is only one word for Sierra: versatile.
Julie Andrews must have chills down her spine to hear this talented UK star sing her song from The Sound of Music.
Sierra is American, born in Denver Colorado. However she is one of the few Americans who can sing with a good English accent. She also has another 'link' with Julie - her birthday is on the 20th of May (also known to musical theatre buffs as Eliza Doolittle day!)

Seriously, this lady is soooooo talented! I can listen to her sing all day.
Wonderful to see an Orchestra enjoying themselves. Absolutely fantastic 😁
What a thrill it must be to have the honor of playing in an orchestra like this ❤️
She is great musical actress .
Even the orchestra gave me chills.
so so beautiful
thankyou for making me relive my childhood days of watching the only video my nonna owned "the sound of music" :)
The excitement on the conductor's face before he cues the orchestra makes me smile! Lovely performance!
Just when you think she can't impress you any further, she does it again! 😱
Once again, Sierra Boggess is sweet and lovely as she interprets Julie Andrews. I'm so delighted that she has "con' fee-dence," but I'm aching to hear Andrews sing it.
I love Rodger and Hammerstein musicals!
She would make a great Maria. I thought she looked young but then she looked normal. I want to get the DVD of this. I love Sierra
Sierra Boggess is just radiant, beautiful and a dream of a voice.
She's so freakin awesome. She sings so well. Sierra should be in every musical from now on. She is just the best singer I've ever heard.
I CANNOT STOP THINKING OF I BELIEVE FROM THE BOOK OF MORMON WHEN I LISTEN TO THIS!
Having heard recordings of this music since I was little, it was just breathtaking to see it brought to life.
I just ~hate~ the way the BBC cuts off these videos after maybe one second of applause. Part of the experience of these great performances is hearing the crowd's reaction. No reason at all to cut them so abruptly.
Not only is she an incredible singer, she takes on the character so well.
I love it..it sounds like the actual orchestra and singing voice from the movie itself.bravo bravo
Even today, this is a favourite of my two girls and myself !!!
Sirrra has an angelic voice. The score from “Sound of Music” is one of the finest ever written and composed!
....Holy Cow....She is absolutely breathtaking.
Sierra is so AMAZING! Her voice is just gorgeous, she is sooo pretty and she is so lovely in person!
Sierra. What stage presence and charisma! Holy cow! I never saw her before. (Sep. 4, 2019)
Sierra’s voice always makes me so happy 🥹
A fabulous singer and a talented actress as well.
Oh I miss this song. When I was 4, my grandmother always sing tjis to me. I've also watched this when we have a VHS.
She is much suited as Maria than Carrie
1000 stars if I could!!!!!
AMAZING!!!!
BREATHTAKING!!!!!
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!!!
Youth, beauty, talent. What a gal!
damn she's good. yup i would have watched if she had performed for nbc. she d done justice for the original.
This brings back all the sweet childhood memories!! Sierra did a great job in putting emotion into the song!
Love The John Wilson Orchestra....best ever for playing R&H! And lovely Sierra Boggess!
Perfection. This right here is a prime example of that.
The ladies' choir sings exquisitely here.
