Finally got to play this mech, and officially it has become my favorite mech. One SLaser, six MLasers, one ER LLaser, max armor and too many heat sinks. It's intimidating, doesn't overheat except in the most intense firefights, and can one or two-shot most light mechs. The ER Large is very accurate and lets me headshot opponents liberally. Group the Small and two Meds together, the other four Meds in a second group; leave the ER Large alone. It's brutal. 😋
Wew boy, this is a monster everyone has an opinion of. You love it or hate it. That usually depends on your first experience with one lol. They hit hard and move pretty good, they are one of the highest heat curves innersphere I can think of. A single alpha strike can put both the Target and the shooter on the ground. Variants are interesting and innovative in extreme. It hits and it moves and it gets hit. In all variants will either bully you, push it too hard and over heat or play too cautious and it lacks luster. The good news is except for missile boat, if you have a play style there is a black Knight for you. Sniper, braserker, brawling, direct fire support, electronic warfare or Juggernaut, it's more than able to do it in some configuration. A good player can reap a battlefield with a black Knight, a mediocre or bad pilot/player will think it's a waste of tonnage. No matter the player if you see one on the other team, unless you really know the player, you better take him serious, there is allot of potential pain. Rather don't get hit or spread it out and press the pilot into heat problems if you can. A smart player won't let you do this. I feel a black Knight should never be left alone, support it and you exploit is strengths. Too many players see the fire power and think it can hold alone. It can't run or hit it is too hot it shut down. Worse yet destroyed while hindered. It's a great machine, and an icon if the game, it advanced with the times, high-tech, low tech, Star league, succession wars... Into the dark age, it's survival tells the tail if a great design both in the lore and in the game, it's just a concept, hype meets design. I have only run in one once and it was fun. I have fought against them several times, some days sucked really bad haha. I love the design on both ends of it's trigger. Well done again GDN, keep it coming, we will have fun when your get to the r2d2 trash can haha.
I just started using a Black Knight in MW5. Mine has lower armor than normal because I turned it into a sniper build with 3 ER PPC & 2 ER medium lasers as backup. Has been an amazing stand off unit. With the PPC's in chain fire by the time the 3rd is fired the cool down on the 1st is finished allowing an impressive steady amount of fire down range.
Now 3 weeks after my original post I have dumped the ER PPC's for ER L Lasers and equipped 4 MP Lasers as backup. I have been having great success with sniping cockpits with this current setup. While yes I was able to destroy mechs a bit easier with the PPC's, I have been able to salvage RIDICULOUS amounts of mechs with my cockpit sniper build. Literally ROLLING in C-bills right now (78mil) lol.
Double heat sinks and a regular PPC, two regular Large Lasers, Four Regular Medium Lasers, and one ER Small Laser in the head. As long as you remember to use the correct weapon at the correct range, ppc at long/ mixed with the Large Lasers. Medium Lasers/ mixed with large at medium and close range. Never have any real heat problems.
Mine was a BL7 field upgraded to a BL9-ish with Clan salvage. Sword, ERPPC, 6 ER Med Laser, 2x C-3 Computers [to link a full company] Angel ECM, Jump Jets, and Triple Strength Myomers to tae advantage of the excess heat [overheat to 10+ then jump in swinging the Sword]. My character was ex-com guard [cover story] mercenary captain who lead a mercenary group made of ex-pats from the great houses, sponsored by the Wolf's Dragoons and Explorer Corps to gather info on the Clans
Between the Clan ERPPC and the TSM augmented sword [with a hellacious Gunnery Score] I could potentially called-shot decapitate 2 mechs in 1 turn, severely damaging a 3rd with the 6 ER med's, Coordinating strikes on the survivors via C3 with the Catapult, [pink] Panther and Centurion in my command Lance, each having C3 link with their own Lance of similar armed mechs, Including a pair of 100 ton customs mounting twin long-tom and twin Arrow-IV, a 25 ton super-fast with ECM, Tag, Active Probe, MASC, TSM and 7 flamers in each arm [it would overheat the mechs it could, then call in artillery strikes on what it couldn't], and a smattering of classics like Atlas, Warhammer, Hatchetman and Highlander. All [except the 2 artillery mechs and the Catapult] full-energy mechs with jump jets. We eventually collected enough salvage to not only afford the 3 scratch-builds, but commission a hybrid Warship/mobile repair yard, in exchange for a 10-year retainer mission to Explorer Corps to join the hunt for the Clan homeworlds, it gave us the ability to independently support a mixed Regiment [1 battalion of vehicles [all VTOL and Hover], 1 company of jump infantry, 2 of Aerospace Fighters, 1 Battalion of Mechs. 1 Overlord, 3 union and 4 Leopards deployed the entire force, with the extra Fighters having berths in the Warship itself.
Mine carries an ER-PPC, 2 ER-LL, 5 ER-ML (all clan tech) linked to a TC4. Beagle Probe, 20-double HS, Jump jets. I would hate to meet your mech up close.
my personal configuration is 3 ER large lasers, 4 medium lasers, double heat sinks and max armor to 440 points of armor, just as much or more than many standard configuration assault mechs. Perfect for cockpit piercing max damage at medium and short range. The Er lasers to destroy the armor and the medium lasers to finish the job.
I love the old school artwork! That blue BK I've never seen before, it's pretty cool looking. Thin, kinda alien looking. And why would anyone put an inexperienced MW in something like this? Only the finest MW need apply to pilot such a powerful Mech. Trainer "What experience do you have piloting Mechs, Jones?" MW Jones "uuuuuh, a Honda Civic?" Trainer "Good enough!"
Battletech was a amazing universe and game. 3039 was the best. the 3050? supplement(not the 3050 technical readout) told the tale of how house Davion and house Steiner United. The resulting attack on the draconis combine devastated them. Only thing that saved them was a battle of the bulge tactic. A bluff that saved them. Brilliant. And then came the Clans. I prefer 3029. But the tail and story was well done. Especially the Michelle Stackpole books, so well done. Masterpiece. Then comes the "jade wolf" I was like ok ok I'll except it, after all that is life things change. When he changed it back, kindve stop caring. Unfortunately I didn't read the whole clan destruction saga. Did read the end fight with Katrina(?). Not good. My opinion. Night
M'Lord Narrator I'm looking forward to the Black knight iic. It's pretty much the same but has a pointy head and white paint job. Oh and it only has flame throwers for weaponry.
Not sure they where available when this beast debut. It is very old (Reunification war) and does not employ ER weapon either in example. The beast is also nice in urban combat with good armor and the Beagle probe
Yes tried one, weapons hardpoints too low. In open terrain you have expose entire upper torso to get shots off. Head hardpoint is not large enough to mount a hvy weapon. And no I dont care for swords and shields in my battletech games. Maybe for the Solaris games. Not for warfare in the sphere.
It’s not a sniper, it’s a brawler. PPC at long range but you should be closing to bring the medium lasers into the fight. Large Lasers as your closing and every second or third volly.
@@TheGreatDayne1983 nah, not my style, I do run brawlers but I like to utilize terrain too. If I had my choice for a PPC brawler it would be the Marauder or Marauder 2C or maybe a laser heavy Nova Cat or Night Gyr outfitted with clan Heavy LG lasers instead of PPCs. At one range you track better with lasers, can't do it with PPCs and PPCs are so hot.
Same, love the content and hate the execution. I gave up on this channel once, but I decided to give it another chance by turning off the sound and clicking on the subtitles.
One of my favorites. I also like that he mentioned characters from MechWarrior 4 black knight expansion including the player character.
"do you own any?"
I'd settle for a urbie as long as it were real
You better settle cause in an urbie you wont be able to move at all

I've always enjoyed this mechs capability when it was introduced in the 2750 tech readout. it was devastating to the 3025 era mechs.

Sigismund would be proud of that mechanical bad boy^^
He might take it as a command mech and gave it giant power fists instead.
Yesssssss!!!
I take it you got a mention haha
Thanks for the vid sir.
My pleasure.
It's no Marauder but it'll do in a pinch.
Great video as always dude
I only use this mech in Battletech on Polar maps. I love overheating
ITS THE BLACK KNIGHT!
Love my Black Knight packing 9 Medium Lasers and 40+ Single Heatsinks. It can Alpha 3 times even with Ghost Heat on any map!
Awesome!

Ohhhhhhhh.. Those guy.
Aren't those built in the Periphery on planet Mississippious?
How to play blackknight. Over heat
Shadow cat next.
I'm not a big fan of pure energy boat designs, just because the heat built up is extreme.
….but they're great when you get stuck behind enemy lines and don't have to worry about LRM/SRM/GAUSS/AC reloads :)
correct,I used energy weapons and ammo ones to.
The engineer still using single heat sinks when double heat sinks are available need to be fired.

hey GDN i rarely ask things of creators, but can you do the Clint pleeeeaaasse? *kitty cat eyes*
I'll add it to a poll next week. Can't guarantee it'll get picked though.
Do you feel lucky, Keianna? Well, do ya???
This is the mech I used on the tabletop.
Nice!
to bad you did not used the blackknight from mechwarrior 4 mercenaries as an image.
I try to make it uniform by using MWO artworks. Its helpful because they have PNG's of pretty much all the mechs in the game.
The Black Knight 6B is a monster the 6 not so much

Good mech. Mech 4: Black Knight sucked though.
That seems to be a universal opinion, lol.
