The single PPC is not much, but once a Battlemaster gets close is when the pain really begins. That battery of six medium lasers alone is some serious pain. It is also a great mech to use for engaging in mega robot fisticuffs.
I got the hero Battlemaster chassis (BLR-1GHE 'Hellslinger') in Mechwarrior 5. After my own refits it has: a snub nose PPC in each arm, quad medium lasers in the torso, and 3x SSRM-2. It runs at 71 kph, has ferro fibrous armor, double heat sinks, and a battle computer geared for PPC usage. It is brutally effective as a mid-range brawler/city fighter and well lives up to the name Battlemaster. No Atlas, Awesome, or Mauler has come along that's tempted me out of my Battlemaster.
Ah, a Battlemaster. All the firepower of a Griffin with no jump jets and thirty extra tons of weight slowing you down. The Battlemaster suffers greatly from the curve they used to calculate engine weight. One of the guys in my lance had his Battlemaster cored. We were able to salvage an engine from a Marauder and drop it into the Battlemaster and we didn’t have to sacrifice a bit of armor or a single medium laser. All we lost was a bit of melee damage from the extra ten tons of weight.
The Battle Master narrated by the Narration Master! Critical Hit! I like the BattleMaster as an Iconic Assault Mech. It's a great platform, and I enjoy using it to obliterate lesser machines, and savage even Atlas Mechs before succumbing to such raw power.
That picture of Hanse Davion's Battlemaster utterly thrashing those "Liao Death Commandos" is one of my favorite pieces of Battletech art in the world. The only one higher is the Atlas caving in the head of a Warhawk with its fist.
Battlemaster is probably my favorite assault mech. This comes from playing MechWarrior (the late 80s/early 90s) PC game. The locust is my favorite light mech, same game is to blame.
I mostly use it as a defender-command unit-laser boat packing as much armor, heat sinks & AMS as possible. The stock engine is too slow for my tastes to go on the offensive but I've also envisioned it as a good Com Guard unit protecting HPGs from pirates & raiders trying to disrupt communications.
My all time favorite battlemech since the days of playing the tabletop game. So much hitting and staying power. Its too bad HBS could not use the original version for their recent BATTLETECH videogame but the current look has grown on me especially when the right camo scheme is used. Thanks for a most excellent lore video and HAPPY NEW YEAR GrimDark Narrator! :)
The MW5 version is one of the only times where I think PGI made a mech look better, not that the OG looked bad... The current one just looks better. My MW5 version is expensive: 400 XXL Engine + Super Charger to go 84kps "119kph sprinting", 6 Martel Medium in the torso, Clan Large Laser in the right arm, ATM-9 "one ton HE and STD", a single 375mm Gauss Rifle and a HMG in the left arm. There are 11 double heat sinks on the engine and 3 corrosive heat sinks in the body with one Heat Bank MKII... Pirate ECM "Blasts heavy metal and Canopis smut on all frequencies even IR and ultra violet lol" and Clan Probe The the meat and bones are composite structure and clan FF armor maxed out... It's expensive but I lasted long enough for all those refits.
@@jayive34 I don't care for them myself, I think they're mediocre compared to things like an Atlas or Highlander but mine was custom and I had it for a long time and it became my go to while the Atlas was in refit. I would actually use a highlander over it in MW5 if the jump jets didnt suck. If MW5 had Mech Warrior Living Legends jumpjets then DOA would be nasty.
definitly one of my favs, being mostly energybased lets it run for extended campaigns without being super reliant on ammo refuels. and it looks realy awesome too ^^
I actually like running the Battlemaster as a master of WUBS. 6 MPLAS, 1 LPLAS and as many double heatsinks as I can fit into it. Yeah, he still runs hotter then the sun when we go full rave mode, but at least everything in the immediate stops being a problem.
Hello Grim. And yet another fine Mech video, from our favorite Narrator. As for the Battlemaster... Well, I can definitely say with some experience that it is a welcome 'Assault' Mech for any new Mercenary Commander. One that is fairly well armed and heavily armored. Even the 'downgraded' versions available by 3025 are still useful to any newly formed Merc unit. Having said the above, however, I must point out that the design does have it's flaws, and that later variants upon this chassis attempt to fix this flawed design somewhat. For myself, I dabbled with various fixes and redesigns of this Mech, but never came to 'love' it as much as I did many others. If a Battlemaster was part of post battle salvage, and there was any discord about who got what, I would always cede the Battlemaster first to whomever wanted it. This 'policy' of mine usually netted me either more Mech parts, Mechs, or greater percentages of the overall total salvage available. It also meant that those that wanted them, usually underestimated me and my Merc unit, and they would cede me other choice salvage in exchange. This, usually resulted in my obtaining what I most desired from the battlefield salvage, with the addition of a higher percentage overall of the available salvage. As one example, I ceded the nearly pristine Battlemaster (needing a new cockpit, left arm, and a leg, as well as near total re-armoring) for the 'rights' to claim an additional 15% of the overall salvage, and the claiming of two Warhammers that were both highly damaged. These Warhammers were in turn traded to another player, for a pair of Shadow Hawks, a Griffin, and highly damaged Thunderbolt (please keep in mind that we were playing with 3025 tech). I kept the Thunderbolt and traded off the other three Mechs for three Wolverines and another Thunderbolt, as well as tons and tons of armor, ammo, and actuators. In fact, each trade netted me additional parts, supplies, and armor. In the end, by ceding the Battlemaster, I gained far more than I had given away, especially when I followed through with trading Mechs and supplies with fellow Merc Commanders later.
@@77Arcturus It is rather nice to have a 'playing group' of friends where you all are keeping track of wins, losses, gains, and such. And yeah, some old fashioned 'horse trading' at times. Especially when a player gets access to some Mech type you want in your own force. Be it a House Army Unit, or Merc Outfit. I remember some memorable battles with House Kurita as a Merc, that netted me quite a few Panther Mechs, partial Mechs, and tons of Panther parts. Of course, I was happy to trade 'em off to House Davion for otherwise unobtainable Mechs and access to some of Dr Banzai's prototypes. I must admit I was stumped by the watermellon in the hydraulic press the first few times I visited his lab... but after seeing the movie, I 'got' the reference. I worked out Banzai's 'test' for that... it's not about the mellon at all, but about testing his friends and lab assistants to see if they could resist temptation. Even a single light touch would break the equilibrium of the testing gear, resulting in the loud and messy destruction of the mellon. So, can YOU resist the temptation to 'Do Not Touch!'? hehehe.

Thanks for this video. I am ashamed to say I don't have a single Battlemaster in my mech collection. None of my old Battletech friends had one either so I haven't faced one in a game. I hear much praise for it, but for me, the single long range weapon is just not enough for my playstyle. With the Catalyst " Game Of Armoured Combat " including a miniature, would be my first Battlemaster. I look forward to trying it, but frankly don't expect much... Thanks again!
I always considered the Cyclops to be a poor man's Atlas, with better communications It carries a high-level officer isn't very mobile and is lightly protected for an assault Mech. It was a reason Alexander Kerensky did not use one

The BattleMaster has fantastic armor/speed/heat profile since always, dmg ehhhhh sometimes. Punch mad stuff tho.

Who would win in a one-on-one fight the Atlas or the Battlemaster

I'd think the Atlas is more resilient.
