    I love the base WHR-6R.
Used in TT setting, had an ammo explosion, both side torsos blown off, pilot knocked out up to the last injury box, and Mech toppled.
Rolled to recover my pilot, was able to stand on first attempt, and thus was a walking stick that enabled me to call spotter on a retreating Nova to pick it off with another Mech dropping LRMs on it.

Might have been worth mentioning it was a response to the Federated Suns' BattleAxe and Hammerhands, eventually supplanting those designs even in Davion service.

I like to replace the PPC's with Snubs, freeing 2 tons for armor, the MG's with another pair of Small Lasers, the MG ammo with a Heat Bank, and the SRM6 & ammo for 4 Jump Jets, and upgrade Heat Sinks to Doubles(when possible). I call this variant "Mjolnir".

  • @anna-elizabeth

An absolutely iconic "Mech. I found an old, used, lead casting Warhammer on eBay, and stripped it, restored it, and painted it as "Black Lady", the personal Warhammer of Captain Natasha Kerensky. I also acquired a plastic Destroid from Palladium's "Robotech Tactics" set to have a more-detailed "Black Lady", and I should soon have in-hand a new Catalyst Warhammer.

Solid mech. The Davion variant that drops the ammo weapons and up armors is one of the best. The Warhammer hits hard, I can't imagine an assault lance without one.

I still believe that variant is mislabeled. Those cradel robbing hillybillies would not understand something as complex as a Hammer and would never give up on something that throws projectiles. Most likely they stole the plans from Steiner as well ;)

This is absolutely without any doubt the the most recognizable and fearsome battle mech to make it off the design table and into mech hangers around the sphere. One of my early favorites. This mech shares a design feature with the venerable and proven Rifleman in that they share the same legs and waist designs in the early artwork and early table top games. This is also one of the most hotly contested designs from the Harmony Gold era. It may not be widely known that 6 designs were hotly contested in lawsuits that held up mechwarrior advancement for years, they were:
    The Warhammer
    The Rifleman
    The Marauder
    The Archer
The Stinger (still yet to be released)
The Wasp (still yet to be released)
Other units from the battletech universe were the Ostroc, and the Ostroc MKII that were used by the antagonists in Robotech.
The 4 heavy designs were known in Macross and Robotech as "Destroids", In those story lines emphasis was on the lights, the Wasp, Stinger, the Crusader (medium) while the antagonist used what was known in battletech as the "Ostroc" and "Ostsoc MKII" design of "battle pods, The Marauder was usually depicted as a command mech for those units. There was a total lock on all battletech gaming for a long long time over the rights of these designs. I guess they underestimated the loyalty of the Battletech fans, as soon as a game came out, harmony gold would file lawsuits and then there wouldn't anything for years, then something would come out and harmony gold would file another lawsuit, and on and on. Thats why battletech and mechwarrior fans absolutely hates Harmony Gold ( he spits toward the ground), sorry the taste of that name is too much.

Back in the 90s, my gaming group was Battletech crazed. At the time, I was kind of meh about it, but that's what they liked to play. I did a little research and decided I wanted to specialize in the Warhammer. It was a solid all-around mech and had a nice weapon balance. I bought two of them, painted them deep panzer gray, and detailed their weapons. That's what I always played with. I did all right. Everyone else was playing their mech of the day, I knew the Warhammer better, every engagement. Pretty soon, my opponents were dreading seeing the pair of dark Warhammers.

A good solid front line mech, tough and loaded with heavy firepower, capable of incinerating anything that stands against it. Just has the annoying tendency to run hot if you get too carried away with discharging its energy weapons.
I would definitely say that the Warhammer is the grandfather of the Hellbringer, as they have a similar appearance and basic weapon configuration. Only difference is that the Hellbringer is omni-capable, lighter, more agile and faster, but much more fragile.

    Hello Grim.
I have both used and faced just about every Warhammer Mech in the game during the several decades I've played the tabletop game, and later the HBS computer game.
The Warhammer is an 'iconic' Mech. One that just about every player recognizes and either loves, or hates. For myself, I both loved and hated this Mech design. The 6R's issues with heat overload being the primary reason to dislike it. But, with the introduction of the Helm Memory Core's tech, one can redesign and refit older Warhammers to make them more efficient fighting machines. Which, I must say, I gleefully did.
I won't bore you with all the variants I came up with, but all benefit from the upgrading of Heat Sinks to DSHS, at the least. One design even has an Inner Sphere Targeting Computer for it's pair of PPCs.
Love it, or hate it. The Warhammer is a 'staple' of the B-Tech Universe, and one that will keep marching into battle, despite any detractor's desires.

  • @schnarre0
    @schnarre0 5 лет назад +4

...Lost track of the number of variants of this Mech I would field, though 2 stand out:
    1) Replace the SRM-6 & ammo with 4 Medium Lasers (coupled with the other 2 medium lasers it already has, this makes short work of anything that gets too close for the PPCs), & drop the Machine Guns & ammo with Flamers (not unlike the Liao -6L variant)
& 2) A city fighting variant, downgrades the PPCs to Large Lasers, replaces the SRM with Medium Lasers (as per the above variant), drops the Machine Guns for 2 rear-firing Medium Lasers, adds a Flamer (Infantry cook real good!), & 3 tons of armor. A bit less effective in the open field than the PPC-armed types, but in close-quarters I was able to turn even a BattleMaster into swiss cheese!
...With 3050....Oh the possibilities!!!! *grins evilly*

This is one of the greats. Armor to spare, mobility, and slugging ability. A heat curve but hey 3050tro made it moot. The favored ride of Natasha Kerensky for like 2 decades, the black widow spent more time in one than any other. That will tell you something. I had to wait twenty plus years to own my own and it's an unseen. It is a flash of my youth like the PPC fire of a dream. Almost smell the ozone. As for table top. Get this big smasher in middle ranges and slug it out, it's not a jugergnaught with epic one hit quit like ac20 packing mechs, it's a brawler, it's meant to stay and play all day. If you are in a prolonged campaign Expendables aren't an issue as long as you don't leave it behind as salvage. Run out of ammo and you don't lose much on your damage curve and you increase survivability by having a crit sink in the torso that won't cost a ppc as well. In fact I start shooting SRM every round I can even long shots and will dump the ammo if it's looking iffy. Then back to smashing. This mech has little real weakness, long game, short range, armor, mech, battle armor and infanty can all be dealt with. Speed is on par with most of the 50+ ton mechs. Jump jets would be it's only short fall but can't win it all. This icon is really what they mean when they say mechs rule the battlefield undesputed in the 31st century. Thanks again, GDN, I hope to get one of the non project Phoenix resculpts in the near future. I want to see what comes next in this series.

First of all, I am very pleased with your presentation!
It is both very informative as well as entertaining. This is no easy feat.
I am well aware of the fact the Mechwarriors would each need to be given their own video presentations.
Therefore, I fully support your wise decision to make each of the Mechwarrior entries here, brief.
As to the Warhammer Battlemech, I have been a fan of the design since the first time I got the Battletech Boxed Game in 1990.
The excellent firepower and good armor protection makes it a great combat system.
Making it even better, is the quality engine that gives the Warhammer respectable speed on the battlefield.
My favorite part of this Battlemech is that it has weapons for almost all possible ranges.
The only thing that I often do to modify it is to replace the Machine Guns & Ammunition, as well as the SRM with an LRM 10 system for long range firepower and especially for indirect fire support.
Thank you for your excellent and informative presentation!

Ah yes the mech that started it all, the greatest one of them, no joke here, we all love it and want one, be it in-game, toy, board game piece or card, we do, it was on the cover of the books, game manual and gaming magazines,
Get one slap 2 Extended Range Particle Projector Cannon or 2 Extended Range Large Laser on each hand separately, 4 or 2 light lasers and or 2 medium lasers for the chest, or 1 heavy Mg and HE missile rounds and I can wreck even an Atlas, yes I once took on and lived to tell the tale boys and girls!
BUUUUUT the Clan just had to something heretical to my boy! NEVER FORGIVE NOR FORGET, UNITED UNDER THE BANNER OF THE STARS!
But for real I have a very hard time trying to play the online game in mine each and single every time, when I am minding my own business, some light mech rocket jumps in front of me and I just end up shooting them and get flagged for team killing!

You're serious about that? I can do a video about the King Crab. What others are in its family?

@@GrimDarkNarrator Well, there's the King Crab (Designate KGC-XXX), the Crab (Similar design, made by the same company; could be argued it's a precursor to the KGC, designate CRB-XX), and the Clan-tech Supernova, a stripped down 2nd line made from KGCs they couldn't maintain.
If you're covering BattleTech, I'd appreciate seeing my favorite city-killer get some love.

I'm sorry man. I've tried so hard. I love the fact that you're delving so deep into the lure but I can't handle listening to you. It's really hard. I know you're trying and I give you a lot of respect for trying. Keep it up
