Doesn't IGN realise that millions of gamers read their reviews? Like, they could've rated the Sonic games extremely low just because of how biased they are and this affects the money and profits that go to SEGA as it deters gamers from buying the game. They should be fired!
Ign has to be the biggest reason why I stopped trusting any "professional" review on a game from others like Metacritic, pcgamer, polygon, ect and only rely now on credible youtube channels built upon reviewing games.

I played the first Sonic game about 4 years ago for the first time and i liked it. Im 23 btw so this should mean i have a bad taste in video games. These arguments dont work. Are they now gonna compare the latest Tekken game with the original arcade Street Fighter? A part of me wanted to believe that these "grown men" are just joking but this is clearly not the case. I've been a sonic fan and Mario fan since all my life, I've asked people if they are familiar with sonic, they said yes or no, those who are EITHER like or dislike the character but they say they respect the games progression and the games become greater by the years. A more legitimate comparison is Sonic 3 & Knuckles vs Super Mario World both of which are my favorites of the franchises, but I certainly favor S3&K. If you look at their size and complexity however they are very comparable.
and the dreamcast version of sa got a 8,6 and the game cube version got a 3,5.There the same game(not to mention that the ps2 ver. of sonic unleashed got a 7 and the ps3/360 ver got a 4,5)

I finally figured it out, you see if you replace every time they say sonic with IGN, replace all mentions of the Sonic games with controversial IGN reviews, then you'll see it odly fits So okay, when I was waiting for the Sonic Mania Review, I was expected the 2nd good IGN review, wait oops, there never was a first, actually IGN was NEVER good, like compare IGN to -Insert (Almost)Non-Biased Reviewer here- and I think you can see who's better, and I didn't ever give a name... can't wait for IGN Mania, or IGN 2020, because my favorite part of the Sonic Unleashed Review was when they said Roxas was a trash character.

Looking back, this video makes me remember an era when Sonic was the butt of all jokes in gaming in the mid-late 2000's. Really, saying you were a Sonic fan was considered a cardinal sin on the internet back then. It was just surprising to me that IGN was still stuck in that mindset even in 2016.
It sucks that this happened. Although I'm mostly a Pac-Man fan, I prefer Sonic than Mario. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of both Mario and Sonic, but I find Sonic's gameplay more fun.

4:00-4:26 1st, you missed the sonic rush series on the DS. 2nd, It's kind of debatable now whether or not Adventure and Adventure 2 have aged well. 3rd, Peoples opinion on Heroes, Unleashed, and Lost World are very mixed (People either love them or hate them). Other than that, I completely agree.
I chose sonic because he just seems like more of a heroic character. He has personality! When I was little I just saw more of that then in a nintendo character who just says "yahoo" ever so often. I mean at least a "OH YEAH!" sounds a little more hyped. I tried Mario games. They're fun but it's the same thing over again. Sonic has been in a hole for a bit but they keep trying!! With that came games like Sonic Gen. Sonic just appeals to me more.
Also Sonic was defined as different from Mario by adding slopes and physics to the math. Mario World is still enirely blocks and straight lines just like Mario 1, 2, and 3. Mario succeeded by following the same standard and adding a twist. Sonic 1, 2, and 3 are all completely different beasts.

Yes, this is so true. What sucks is that SEGA usually listens to game journalists such as IGN and internet critics over actual sonic fans. This is why so many games during the 2010 were light on story, and had lighthearted tones, and only had Sonic be the only playable character, because game journalists critized prior games for being to "edgy", and being to gimmicky. The success of Sonic Generations would also result in plenty of games moving forward to use nostalgic pandering. The worst part is that none of these big name reviewers never really cared about the franchise to begin with, and weren't concerned about the consequences of their actions. While I do think Sega is definitely responsible for how those games turned out in the 2010s, I definitely think some of the journalists carry a decent fraction of that blame. They had a massive impact on the series, but at what cost?
This takes me back to when they looked stupid playing Fire Emblem Awakening. I can't blame any Sonic fan for disregarding IGN, even if they are somewhat different now. They just did too much damage to be easily forgiven.

It's their opinion if they hate Sonic, I completely understand and that's fine. But all of these OFFICIAL reviews should be based on all the Positives and Negatives. Here's an example of a Positive and Negative score of a game: Sonic Colours (9/10) + Amazing Gameplay + The Wisps + Story + Music - Easy Boss Battles Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) (4/10) + Music + Graphics + Story - Controls - Bugs and Glitchy - Convoluted Plot I've been with Sonic since I was eight. Since I had my very first video game, Sonic Generations. That video ticked off a bunch of Sonic's fans and I thank you Sam for making this video
I don’t really blame IGN at that time looking back... this response was in 2016 and Sonic just come off of Rise of Lyric and Lost World which were bad. Mario evolves and gets better with each entry while Sonic devolves and gets worst with each new entry like Adventure to 06 or better yet Unleashed to Forces just massive downgrades. It absolutely stinks that the main series has gotten so bad while the fans are putting out way better games like Mania, Sonic GT, Sonic World DX, and Project 06. I used to adore the Sonic series now It’s hard to even recommend it to people. I did like it, I didn't necessarily find it annoying. But it did feel like a huge break from speed of the daytime stages. But they were solid :)

I've been a sonic fan and Mario fan since all my life, I've asked people if they are familiar with sonic, they said yes or no, those who are EITHER like or dislike the character but they say they respect the games progression and the games become greater by the years. These 4 "men" should rethink what they said, because what they said was completely inaccurate and stupid, they probably never even played a single sonic game in their life. Even if sonic had a bad reputation with games during the years, people still say that there are GREAT games he's had that even impressed Mario fans as well. both of which are my favorites of the franchises, but I certainly favor S3&K.

4:00-4:26 1st, you missed the sonic rush series on the DS. 2nd, It's kind of debatable now whether or not Adventure and Adventure 2 have aged well. 3rd, Peoples opinion on Heroes, Unleashed, and Lost World are very mixed (People either love them or hate them). Other than that, I completely agree.

I chose sonic because he just seems like more of a heroic character. He has personality! When I was little I just saw more of that then in a nintendo character who just says "yahoo" ever so often. I mean at least a "OH YEAH!" sounds a little more hyped. I tried Mario games. They're fun but it's the same thing over again. Sonic has been in a hole for a bit but they keep trying!! With that came games like Sonic Gen. Sonic just appeals to me more.
Also Sonic was defined as different from Mario by adding slopes and physics to the math. Mario World is still enirely blocks and straight lines just like Mario 1, 2, and 3. Mario succeeded by following the same standard and adding a twist. Sonic 1, 2, and 3 are all completely different beasts.

Yes, this is so true. What sucks is that SEGA usually listens to game journalists such as IGN and internet critics over actual sonic fans. This is why so many games during the 2010 were light on story, and had lighthearted tones, and only had Sonic be the only playable character, because game journalists critized prior games for being to "edgy", and being to gimmicky. The success of Sonic Generations would also result in plenty of games moving forward to use nostalgic pandering. The worst part is that none of these big name reviewers never really cared about the franchise to begin with, and weren't concerned about the consequences of their actions. While I do think Sega is definitely responsible for how those games turned out in the 2010s, I definitely think some of the journalists carry a decent fraction of that blame. They had a massive impact on the series, but at what cost?
This takes me back to when they looked stupid playing Fire Emblem Awakening. I can't blame any Sonic fan for disregarding IGN, even if they are somewhat different now. They just did too much damage to be easily forgiven.

I don’t really blame IGN at that time looking back... this response was in 2016 and Sonic just come off of Rise of Lyric and Lost World which were bad. Mario evolves and gets better with each entry while Sonic devolves and gets worst with each new entry like Adventure to 06 or better yet Unleashed to Forces just massive downgrades. It absolutely stinks that the main series has gotten so bad while the fans are putting out way better games like Mania, Sonic GT, Sonic World DX, and Project 06. I used to adore the Sonic series now It’s hard to even recommend it to people. Don’t wanna be too negative with this comment so here’s hoping Sonic Team really cares and knocks It out the park next time.
