I think that this would work much better if both games were taken at random from a "survivors" pool, because it's kind of boring to have all of the bad Sonic games go up against Sonic 2.
Edit: as @BritBox777 in the replies said, a tournament bracket style could have also worked wonders. I'm not sure which of the two would be more entertaining, but both are better than this format.

Nah for me it was age 18. I was declutterring one day and found out I had Sonic Unleashed. I remembered buying it when I was younger but got bored of it on the first Ware-hog stage but this time I gave it a second go and it was incredible.

This probably would've been more interesting if it was in a bracket format like a tournament, so that you'd have more matchups between games and avoid the entire video being whether this game is better than Sonic 2 lol. The video is still good because of the conversation about each game but definitely could have had more interesting discussions.

While I love the video, I think putting Sonic 2 so early into the battle ruined the chances of having conversations about comparing other different games with each other like for example unleashed vs generations. An hour of this video is just what's better than sonic 2. Overall I did like the small deep dives and opinions shared about each games and the sonic 2 jokes.

To be somewhat fair, Sonic is a series where if one of the 12 genuinely good games shows up early, it's gonna stay winning for like half the list or more. Love Sonic, but man, he isn't known for quality... 😅

I never finished CD so I thought it was one of my favorite sonic games for a while. But after playing through it in origins? The level design is WAY worse than I remember... I'm still stuck on one of the later levels- I think wacky workbench? I can't even remember

You should do a bracket style, or at least put the games in a rough order of quality (maybe by Metacritic score or something) if you ever do this kind of video again. With Sonic 2 coming in so early, most of the matchups are total no-brainers.

@@cheekyhazelnut naw i kinda got what they were saying. The amount of "Black Knight actually mastapeece :O" videos ive been seeing recently is crazy.m, especially when they mostly compliment the writing and less of the gameplay.
And i say this as someone who grew up and still likes the game, but I definitely see what they're saying.

@@carck6442 I have played them many times and will continue to play them. Still don't fetishize them as much as many classic purists seem to. In fact I prefer many of the 3D titles
I think when it comes to Sonic 2 VS Sonic generations, and which is more important, it would probably be Sonic 2 yeah, but genuinely though it's close. Sonic Generations basically saved the Sonic series for a decade, with it being the only game during the meta era worth playing that whole time. If Generations wasn't released, we'd just have mediocre game after mediocre game with no hope in sight.

If you have the game, go to GHZ act 2 and just stop instantly, and then start running WITHOUT the boost. you'll see what i mean - the energy of the song picks up. drums get faster and the bassline changes. i think this miiight only be for sky sanctuary and green hill but it does still change.
also, on youtube, there's two versions of the song: normal, and fast. i'd link them here but i'm pretty sure comments with links get shadow deleted so...

I really wish this was a seeded full multi-bracket tournament rather than winner stays on. I'm 12 minutes in to the 2 and a half hour video and we've already got Sonic Generations vs Sonic 2. That's 99% of the other Sonic games not having a chance to get past a single round 😂
ladies and gentlemen, self-proclaimed games and sonic internet journalist: Scott the Woz. The number of absolutely borderline offensive statements in this video are outrageuous. How can someone who claims to be “America’s Gaming Nerd” respond, when asked about Sonic Advance, say: I didn’t play that one.
It is absolutely clear to me the aim of this recording was simple: PUSH SCOTT’s AGENDA. And that agenda is clear as day: Sonic 2 was released on a Tuesday.
Now, what financial stake Scott has in this game, I do not know, but it’s clear he is hell bent on pushing this narrative.
I really, REALLY want to love Sonic 2. However, as a completionist I find those half pipe stages abominable and it really soures my enjoyment of that game.

I appreciate Sonic Advance actually being compared to Sonic 2. That's a comparison that I've been making very frequently after completing both numerous times. Sonic Advance also has the distinction of being the only Sonic game I ever grew to love without having grown up with it.

I would've liked for them to change it up, it did feel like this was just one big nostalgia trip for Sonic 2. I don't like sonic 2 but pop off. I love this video, I love hearing other people’s opinions about Sonic games, even though I prefer my own opinion. (Obviously)
As a late 2000’s kid I only got a console in 2019. The only games I played prior was the Classic Sonic games (3&K) on flash emulator sites. So I mainly got my video game fill from RUclips. Now, according to my memory, Sonic Unleashed got a lot of hate during that time and I was very sympathetic towards the game. I got Minecraft and Lego JP as my first games. Eventually, I got Mania, loved it. A few years later, since I had an Xbox One S (Physical) I finally got Unleashed. Because I saw games through YT’s perspective I thought the Werehog would be a pain, I love the Werehog and the daytime stages even more. The combat isn’t spammy and there are lots of unique combos. The medal and difficulty of Eggmanland was more like a fun challenge. I even got 100%. I also love Unleashed better than Generations, for me it was because the boost physics felt off, and since I played Mania and the classics I didn’t like Classic’s sluggish acceleration and weird feel, kinda as if I was fighting to control him. I played and 100%-ed both Adventure games too, Unleashed for me is better than both but 2 is a close second. I think that’s it from me, stay safe out there guys! God Bless!
A few notes (if anyone cares):
- the PC version of Generations DOESN'T come with an unlockable Sonic 1... but it does let you have the pre-order DLC with the Casino Night Zone pinball stage
- the 8-bit Sonic games were technically developed with Game Gear specs in mind, though because the Game Gear and Master System were essentially cut from the same cloth (the Game Gear is just a portable Master System, except it can display more colors than the Master System), all Game Gear games technically started their development as (more or less) Master System games before having everything adjusted for the Game Gear and the only reason the Master System versions of those games even exist to begin with is because the console was still selling well in Europe and Brazil (all Sonic games on SMS were released only in those regions as the Master System was already a dead console in Japan and North America, even Sonic 1 despite being the last Master System game released in the US is technically just the European release with a new UPC sticker slapped on top of it) and the Master System ports were simply just byproducts of the Game Gear games during development that could've been easily put together
- Carbuncle was renamed to Has Bean in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
- the Wisps were actually given an explanation for sticking around on Sonic's world - some of them went back to their home planet but others liked Sonic's world so much they decided to stay with Sonic - at least that's what we got from Sonic Runners, the mobile game Sonic Team developed that later got discontinued
- did you know that Sonic Genesis is actually a port of the 2005 i-mode/Java port of Sonic 1?

In the future I’d love to see this done where you randomize it so every game is pre paired, and you create an actual bracket for them. So you can randomly compare different games and not have a sonic 2 happen.

In my opinion there hasn't been the perfect sonic game yet I belive sonic ha's the potential to be the best platformer even better then Mario but then Sega ha's to come a long way and combine many elements from sonic games in order to create the best game even bad games from sonic ha's done (some) good gimicks for sonic overall
