I agree. This way, it looks more distorted and less detailed. You'd have to use your imagination to fill in what you cannot see or understand, making it more intimidating.
I can confirm this, that "second voice" you hear is actually done by some variation on doing the voice while inhaling to produce that second resonating voice
Peter Stamerra makes sense because he consumed the minds of many poets. “Some struggle on mere words for days, yet I can come up with sentences in seconds.” The Gravemind is extremely intelligent .
those "teeth" are bones added to his biomass which created him from protogravemind to full blown gravemind, it adds a layer of horror to it that I find quite impressive.
haha, that is awesome. I had always heard that, but never really listened as closely as I did until I read your comment, and he really scoffs in disgust when he says containment.
i always thought it was kind of sad how the damaged monitor has been in gravemind's clutches for millennial, but he's still obliviously following his protocol and talking about containment.
I love Gravemind's voice. It's sinister, quiet and scary, at the same time very profound, like the voice of time speaking the secrets of Universe. Great choice of casting...
Dont remember Halo 2 story much-was too young. But damn this cut scene alone looks better than most(not all dont rage), the cutscenes in halo 3 and up cutscenes.
i know that one but there is the music and you cannot actually see if there is a live effect on the input so i wasnt sure if there is some sort of reverb or distortion
There originally was a level where Master Chief had to go in the sub-levels of Halo and had to fight his way out before getting killed by Gravemind. During the level, you'd get a cool vehicles called the Forerunner Tank which you had to use to fight Gravemind. Too bad, they cut it. :(
To charybdis9: I agree with everything except the part about the Gravemind. According to the little book thing in the H3 collectors edition, when the Flood consumes enough food, a Gravemind forms. It just absorbs all the genetic memories of all the flood, which is why it seems to be much older than it really is.
@C48813 I think the guy in shorts is only there if you play on legendary. There is also another cut scene where a grunt plays with a master chief doll on legendary. That's the cut scene when Master Chief land on Halo. So there are actually some "legendary" cut scenes in Halo 2.
All 7 rigs are still there and there are still ready to fire on demand. They are like PCs that come with remotes. The PC will function perfectly without the remote but you cant control the PC from a distance. But the thing is, if one of the rings are ever broken, there will be no replacement.
Humans were also at the time as forerunners, they were descendants at a much higher standard that was shown to us in past Halo Games, The Forerunners were at war with humans, simultaneously fighting the flood, the Humans almost won, but forerunner tech was slightly more advanced. Also when the humans lost, they were "reset" aand send back to Hama and Shama Nune (Spelling not sure) and many others. They then developed and were once again killed by the Halos, remnants were left behind to rebuild:)
@NuclearKorean Gravemind is a powerful creature who controls the flood - an alien parasite. The purpose of the Halo rings is to destroy all life in the galaxy to contain the flood. Master Chief is not in Halo: Reach because it takes place before Halo 1, before he was taken out of stasis. -Something like that anyway.
does anyone think that the tiny robots face looks like the symbol used for the halo 4 trailers at the end when it says "an ancient evil awakens" theres a symbol spinning that looks similair to the face of the robot being held by the gravemind
I really hope some iteration of the Flood are in the next Halo games. They don't need to be the main antagonist, like the Gravemind of Installation 05 was in the original trilogy, but I'd be pretty bummed if they weren't present at all. I know many people hate them, but I find them fascinating. They're fun to fight, as they are entirely different than the Covenant, and the Gravemind is an extremely intriguing entity.
Gravemind is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker The Ninetailed Fox is voiced by Paul St. Peter. Dee has voiced a bunch of the aliens from Ben 10. Paul has voiced lots of "monsters" like Saber Leomon from Digimon Data Squad. But he also voiced Xemnas from Kingdom Hearts 2.
That's exactly what I thought you meant. When I think of "death metal" I usually associate that with the music that plays out something like this, "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
"There is much talk; and I have listened, through rock and metal and time."
*Fucking chills*
Bone-chilling, mysterious, abominable, unknown. Lovecraft would be proud.
Yeah.
I feel like somehow the flood was a little inspired by Lovecraft. Gravemind really reminds me of Nyarlathotep
Lovecraft would shit himself. Which is a compliment in itself.
It’s so flappy. Like a puppet.
Gravemind's head reminds me of a cabbage.
He also looks like the giant plant from Jumanji...
I agree. This way, it looks more distorted and less detailed. You'd have to use your imagination to fill in what you cannot see or understand, making it more intimidating.
well guess the remakes for you then
at least he doesnt look like a weiner with foreskin in halo 2a...........
I prefer the original design, the rotting Venus flytrap look is freaky looking
the guy that voiced this did it with no voice changer as hard as that is to believe
I can hear a 2nd voice at 2:45 . So call me skeptical. .
Dee Bradley Baker can do some insane stuff with his voice, he's amazing
I can confirm this, that "second voice" you hear is actually done by some variation on doing the voice while inhaling to produce that second resonating voice
Gabronthe The human throat actually has a second set of vocals that some people train hard to learn how to utilize.
^He's right, just look up Mongolian and Turkic throat singing
This scene almost explains all of halo. How crazy is that. The Gravemind is one baddass monster. He looks awesome in halo 2 anniversary.
I love how the gravemind rhymes as he talks
It sounds almost Shakespearean
Peter Stamerra makes sense because he consumed the minds of many poets. “Some struggle on mere words for days, yet I can come up with sentences in seconds.” The Gravemind is extremely intelligent .
"eh, nothing can be done until my snowman is complete!"
You can also hear his voice behind Cortana's in the Halo 3 announcement trailer. Halo 3 is going to be very emotional.
UNSCleric cool beans dude
Can’t wait for halo 3
Good times
Im so excited for halo 3 im so ready to play it
Anyone know when Halo 3 comes out?
I saw a leak cinematic of the Gravemind on Halo 2 anniversary.
He was UUUUUUUUUULGY!!!
... In a good way😄
Fun fact he speaks in iambic pentameter
Woops, it's trochaic heptameter (7)
420bluntsmokerxXx Hepta as in seven right? What does that mean?
That is actually really really cool. I have loved the game and series but still find out these little things about the universe that makes it cooler.
Therasul bungle loves seven
Graveminds think alike!
Wowwww
Same if it were me then I would take some time to tell that what monitor says and what prophet says are the same thing.
Damn I saw it comment false 😂
Literally!
I have the video timed and playing next to the remasterd version, what a difference. New gravemind gives me the damn creeps. all those teeth
plushie it’s a giant super intelligent and sentient pile of corpses, it’s probably gonna be a little creepy
Really? I kind of giggle at how stupid the new one looks...
Nicholas Eitenmiller I’m sure you’d giggle in person
Angel Rodriguez
I know I did
those "teeth" are bones added to his biomass which created him from protogravemind to full blown gravemind, it adds a layer of horror to it that I find quite impressive.
haha, that is awesome. I had always heard that, but never really listened as closely as I did until I read your comment, and he really scoffs in disgust when he says containment.
4:26
Master Chief: Boo!
Grunt: AHHHHH! *runs away*
Master Chief has a sense of humor. lol
i always thought it was kind of sad how the damaged monitor has been in gravemind's clutches for millennial, but he's still obliviously following his protocol and talking about containment.
Monitors ai “reboot” every once in a while with only protocol and procedure memories, to avoid being affected by the logic plague
I love Gravemind's voice. It's sinister, quiet and scary, at the same time very profound, like the voice of time speaking the secrets of Universe. Great choice of casting...
Keith David
What about him?
Joshua Benuto the voice actor of the arbiter
One of the greatest cutscenes ever.
"Glory to the flesh. Glory to the mass."
Man the flood really reminds me of the Many.
0:10
Gravemind: A NEW FRIEND!!! :D
3:54 look closely in the background
You can see a guy in shorts
that was a Easter egg of one of the devs I think. it's to the right.
yup it is actually supposed to be Martin O donnel maker of halo 2 music
Dont remember Halo 2 story much-was too young.
But damn this cut scene alone looks better than most(not all dont rage), the cutscenes in halo 3 and up cutscenes.
As a kid that voice.. those who Bulit this place.. knew what they wrought..
2006 at 380p, what a time
Captain Rex, What happen to you?
"... The great Journey is nigh, and nothing, not even the flood can stop it."
Great timing.
@likeasir42 gravemind, a biomass of sentient flood that controls the entirety of the flood.
The flood grave mind is the high mind of the flood and he knows how to work together with others.
Dang the anniversary version update the graphics a lot
The gravemind is one of my favorite characters
Gravemind here looks like a venus fly trap
I thought it always looked like a giant stalk with a crocodile head on top with lots of tentacles
Dee Bradley Baker deserves some award for completely changin his voice for this
Only the strongest will survive
He was wrapped in tentacles, he could hardly just lob a grenade.
one of my favorite scenes in the whole series
"Relax, I'd rather not piss this thing off."
When Chief loses his cool, you know youre going straight to hell.
There can only be one Gravemind at one time.
"and nothing, not even the flood can stop it"
Chief: whut about little ol' me?
I want an MP3 or WAV of all of gravemind's speech.
He just sounds so cool...
i remember why i loved this guy now
"Fate had us meet as foes, but this ring will make us brothers"
LMFAO, the grunt at 3:56 just gets smashd like a fly xD
I love when Chief says "boo" and the grunt just turns around and slides across the floor to escape
"now...at last i see...your secret is revealed..."
the gravemind is a lot of flood warriors combined
@TheNewModSoul Gravemind's speeches are awesome and usually sounds good as well.
no, he says "fate had us meet as foes, but this ring will make us brothers."
master chief is smart. "relax id rather not piss this thing off."
This is the only time you can see what the Gravemind looks like in the whole trilogy of halo games
He really is running a marathon
He was rampant at the time of his capture by the Flood.
the chief gives some damn good advise here
i noticced that when i first got to this point in halo 2 years ago xD
There's more than one gravemind, the one in Halo 1 was supposed to become a gravemind before the chief destroyed it.
Gravemind has main character shields, and the Chief knows it.
The Prophet of Regret being reincorporated into the Gravemind after it let him talk.
Now this is a proper video
Best Scene from Halo Ever
its like right next to the grunts in the distance.
I love this series.
i know that one but there is the music and you cannot actually see if there is a live effect on the input
so i wasnt sure if there is some sort of reverb or distortion
i love that, he's just like "boo" and the grunt runs for his life XD
There originally was a level where Master Chief had to go in the sub-levels of Halo and had to fight his way out before getting killed by Gravemind.
During the level, you'd get a cool vehicles called the Forerunner Tank which you had to use to fight Gravemind.
Too bad, they cut it. :(
the terrible quality makes this so much better imo
@MasterLeafS115 Definitely. Given that a Gravemind is the collected intelligence of tens of thousands of individuals, it makes perfect sense.
4:29 "boo"
Truth: Kill the demon!! 😡
Cortana says that she is a monument to all your sins because she is starting to merge with the gravemind.
To charybdis9: I agree with everything except the part about the Gravemind. According to the little book thing in the H3 collectors edition, when the Flood consumes enough food, a Gravemind forms. It just absorbs all the genetic memories of all the flood, which is why it seems to be much older than it really is.
Which is why he scoffed at the mention of containment from the oracle
out of all the lines in the halo series, gravemind has the most of the best. anybody else think so?
@C48813 I think the guy in shorts is only there if you play on legendary. There is also another cut scene where a grunt plays with a master chief doll on legendary. That's the cut scene when Master Chief land on Halo. So there are actually some "legendary" cut scenes in Halo 2.
I remember seeing this cutscene in Halo 2 and being really creeped out by Gravemind's voice, it just sounded so awesome! :D
i just love that line ''its ready to fire on demand''
All 7 rigs are still there and there are still ready to fire on demand. They are like PCs that come with remotes. The PC will function perfectly without the remote but you cant control the PC from a distance. But the thing is, if one of the rings are ever broken, there will be no replacement.
gravemind and the prophet of truth are two of the coolest villian characters i've ever seen
Gravemind- "Fate has made us foes, but this ring will make us brothers"
Master Chief- "How bout a mint first, broski."
for being a alein zombie master mind, he is actually pretty nice reading to kids with cancer! =)
"boo" i dear god run! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!
Humans were also at the time as forerunners, they were descendants at a much higher standard that was shown to us in past Halo Games, The Forerunners were at war with humans, simultaneously fighting the flood, the Humans almost won, but forerunner tech was slightly more advanced. Master Chief is not in Halo: Reach because it takes place before Halo 1, before he was taken out of stasis. -Something like that anyway.
chief is like 'ok stay calm chief, stay calm.' and arby's just like 'OMG WTF IS THIS!'
"...The moment of all the Covenant should shave..." ..."icon has been found (*showing his new gilette razor blade")".
@Starman117 some of it is, but alot of those things cortana talks about never happend. Keep in mind she was rampant when recalling these stories.
I swear I could hear some little kid talking as the Gravemind is talking.
They should make a Halo series where they explain everything and I mean EVERYTHING from Halo1 to Halo 3
He's just a mean green momma from outer space.
does anyone think that the tiny robots face looks like the symbol used for the halo 4 trailers at the end when it says "an ancient evil awakens" theres a symbol spinning that looks similair to the face of the robot being held by the gravemind
I don't know if the Gravemind breathes, but if it does I can't begin to imagine what its breath smells like
Jampolo the entire gravemind is made of thousands of corpses so... yeah
*LÁSTIMA QUE NUNCA DOBLARON ESTE JUEGO AL LATINO*
Gravemind's voice is AMAZING how they put it two different voices.
I really hope some iteration of the Flood are in the next Halo games. They don't need to be the main antagonist, like the Gravemind of Installation 05 was in the original trilogy, but I'd be pretty bummed if they weren't present at all. The grunt is filming him thats why.
Out of all halo figures Gravemind and Arbiter are my favorites!
if the oracle hit gravemind with his powerful laser beam gravemind would be angryer and that would be fun
Gravemind is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker
The Ninetailed Fox is voiced by Paul St. Peter. Dee has voiced a bunch of the aliens from Ben 10. Paul has voiced lots of "monsters" like Saber Leomon from Digimon Data Squad. But he also voiced Xemnas from Kingdom Hearts 2.
When I first bought this game: I heard it play Breaking Benjamin: Blow me away. And I just freaked out.
The gravemind is Captain Keys he was growing bigger than any other flood taken over a human body
@WertAc1 Master Chief isn't in stasis during the course of the war on Reach. He was part of Blue Team who were doing an operation in space.
That's exactly what I thought you meant. When I think of "death metal" I usually associate that with the music that plays out something like this, "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
The Gravemind in Halo 2 Anniversary is even more terrifying
