It always used to amaze us how many folks in the rv community would tell people in online forums asking about doing this - that it couldn't be done or that it'd be a bad idea. The kicker?,... none of them had done it. That's often the case with many things. We've done this more than once wth good results. The paints they make now days seem to bond to just about anything and lay down easily. As for those asking about serious cracks; use a "high-fill" spray-can primer from the auto parts store and a scuffy pad or sanding block and go over it lightly, (very lightly),. Then hit it with a very light first coat.
First off thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Haters will hate it worked on our RV. Has been on there for almost a year and we have had zero problems with it.
I have 1,000's of hours of professionally painting experience. Painting everything from surface equipment, cars , trailers just about anything an everything. I see nothing wrong with this . Nothing wrong with putting in some work and saving some money.
Extremely skeptical when I saw the title. However, this came out amazingly!!!! I personally would not have thought about this myself, but this looks like a great way to start to change up the look of our 2005 Itasca verses dropping 17k on a complete full body paint job. Awesome, thanks for putting this out here shipmate. Beat Army!
Suggest first edging with 1/4" tape next to stripe. Wipe down with 3M wax remover in case there's any wax or silicone on the surface. Or, use mineral spirits. Scuff surface with 400 grit or similar scotch brite pad.
WOW! Thanks again. As long as it is a clean dry surface with paint will bond to the plastic surface. that is why we cleaned it with TSP. TSP is what professional paints use to clean prior to painting. UF you have any other questions please let us know
Is your coach full body paint or just fiberglass? Ours is fiberglass which has dulled over time and I was wondering if the contrast between dull fiberglass and newly painted stripes would be a problem with the appearance?
Thanks for this…I’ve been taking a lot of old graphics off our 2004 Winny Siteseer…such a pain. I think I will try to replace with new vinyl graphics that I can order on some of these. But the big “swoops” it will be so much easier to try your method of paint. Have you tried the Krylon Fusion “all in one?” Still debating exactly which kind of paint to try.
2002 39Z Bounder, just got a quote, remove vinyl graphics $2k and repaint Graphics $3.8k, $5,800.00 nope. I'm painting my graphics because of too HIGH a cost for old the coach and your DIY awesome video. Thank you! May i ask, how many cans of paint did it take?, i realize it was multi colored but total cans gives me an idea.

Great idea for our 06 Terry. The decals have been sun beaten all their life and they make this trailer look like it just doesn't belong with the ones at the stops we enjoy so much. I had to at least try LOL. On a serious note though, I have removed a few of my decals that were really bad and it left a shadow on the RV of where they used to be. Do you believe this spray paint would adhere to The gelcoat? Thanks
Thank You Aron. I need this for my RV. What about the white space outside the stripes? Same process??? What type of white paint would that be?? Gloss, Satin?
Aron Jemison No, either you want it to come out like yours (visible cracks) or take someone else’s advice that does it for a living. Thank you for your service.
@@3tailsRV thanks. Really enjoy the videos. Just had a grey water tank bust on my montana. Debating running hard line to drain due to expensive cost of new tank and labor. If you have any great ideas would love to hear back. Thanks
First off thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. to answer your question; No, sorry we only moved them to get them filled. I made a bracket using 2 4x4 and notched them, install a cross brace with 2x4's and cut out a moon shape to match the curve of the bottle. I strapped all that to a wheeled cart so it was easier to move around. We don't travel with them any more as we sold them when we left washington state. (that was a year and and half ago)
Aron, Please publish an update after a year or so and let us know how the paint is holding up. I'd assumed that the vinyl and any residue had to be removed before painting. I'd sure like it better if painting over the vinyl turned out to be a good long term solution!
James thanks for watch the video and leaving a comment. So we made that video only a few months ago, but I can say that we have driven over 3,000 miles since then and we get a lot of positive comments about how well it looks. I will keep you suggestion in mid and do a video at the 6 month mark.

Hello. Ive been trying to decide how to approach my cracking decals - Im pretty much leaning towards paint also.I saw that on some of your decals the decal was cracking - mine are heavily cracked. Did you sand them down at all? If not, how did the paint finish come out over the cracked portions? Not sure I want to go thru the sanding process if they turn out okay without sanding.... Thanks.
Steve first off thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a great comment. to answer your question no I did not sand them and the more layers of paint that you add will fill in the cracks we found that 4 to 5 layers was sufficient in filling the cracks. 2) sand
3) Spray on adhesion promoter (Bulldog)
