    As a former pro pitcher I can say that all arm potential can be based off long toss, if you can’t full out effort with a crow hop throw a baseball 340ft on a fly at 45 degree angle their is absolutely no chance of you throwing 95 mph! It goes against physics! However to your point, I have seen numerous outfielders who could throw a baseball between 360-400ft but they can’t throw harder then 86mph from the mound. With solid mechanics like these being shown you can harness that overall power and arm strength to the mound! I do agree with some of this work most pitchers can add 2-3 mph consistently. Nice work..
    When I played they did not focus much on hip flexors and more power and flexibility in hips.

    His mechanics seem pretty counter to what is taught by a lot of pitching coaches. I imagine Trevor Bauer would not like these mechanics at all. Very little to no drift, It actually looks like he doesn't create much drop, not a lot of hip to should separation, his hips are late because of counter rotation but no doubt he has an amazing arm and incredible range of motion. His block is extreme causing the recoil. It's incredible to see so many different mechanics work for elite pitchers.

    • @manager4409

      remember roy oswalt? also 5'11 and he sits down real low like bauer. or billy wagner even earlier, only 5'9 and could throw 100. had a solid dip lunge. or even tim hudson for that matter, 5'11 and dropped down low. yordano stood straight up.

    • @Mushies15
      @Mushies15 6 месяцев назад

      This is the exact reason why some people have no idea what they are talking about. Do you understand how hip anatomy works? Everyone’s is different, all over the globe. Yordano has hip mobility limitations but it’s very clear that these actually worked in his favor. It’s most likely the reason why his arm was so quick. His hips didn’t have a long way to go from closed during drive, to open into landing. Having more or less internal or external rotation doesn’t always mean bad. It just means you will either be in IR dominant or ER dominant positions at different points in your delivery

      This beautiful game, like most sports in history over time, will evolve for the better. Hitters will have to evolve and understand how to read pitches faster to thrive. There's a reason why you take a pitcher from now like Jacob DeGrom and place him in an earlier era he will thrive and be looked at as something otherworldly. It's all for the better, and is inevitable.

    • @gregwilson5571

      @@ytvel4273 agree in full except that deGrom has had plenty of stretches where he looks otherworldly against current players too. We would all be assuming he was cheating 70-80 years ago. It’s too bad what happened to him. Looking at his mechanics, I noticed that he does have a bit of an inverted W. Obviously he moves very well and more likely he has 40 plus inch vertical leap and can probably run a 60 yard dash in under 6.5 sec. So he creates a ton of force but on the injury side, what do you think he could have done to prevent injury from a mechanical standpoint/ volume/ recovery standpoint? Thank you!

      Obviously it is very different for me cause during this time I was like 85-86 tops, but I had a pretty bad inverted W, but I have great shoulder mobility and I’m hyper mobile in a lot of my upper body. I think because of that I never experienced any pain or injuries. And in his case where he’s more mobile, more athletic, and stronger than me. Having an inverted W like that I don’t think had any effect on him.

    Why do some pitchers back leg drag, and others don’t? Is there a science behind it?

    • @noahpetty1301
      @noahpetty1301 Год назад

      It depends on stride length I think. Longer stride = more drag
      Shorter stride = less drag
      The reason this is the case is because every pitcher pretty much in MLB and probably as well as the minor leagues release the ball 8-12 inches out front of your lead leg. Long strides require you to drag your foot to get that far out front. Short strides on the other hand can get away with not dragging, though it’s rare for it to be from efficient mechanics. At least from what I have seen.

    Ventura threw hard from his arm whip with good shoulder hip separation, his mechanics were decent. Inverted W throwing motion, a lot of stress on the elbow. Pitching guys over use phrases like scap load and T spine , keep it simple. That finish is awful, you need to let your arm decelerate naturally and not let it whip back. That is bad for your arm. Your energy needs to release to the catcher. Think in terms of slamming on your car brakes. What happens? Everything slams forward.

      Pitchers are nasty nasty right now. I get it. But I have to believe the league batting average would go up at least 10 points if guys would just hit what the pitchers give them. Quit trying to pull an up and away fastball over the fence. Slap that shit oppo, take your fuckin single and then hope he throws you a mistake next at bat. Blows my mind they had to add a rule because guys couldn’t figure this out. But like Donaldson said they don’t pay you to hit grounders. Mind you I couldn’t hit that stuff either way but I’m an old man who was significantly less talented than these guys even when I was young. George Brett finally talked Moustakas into going the other way before the 2015 season. He worked on it all offseason and hit .284 that year. Then slowly settled back into his old ways.

    Ben you frustrate nyman 24/7 and this is why. You don’t throw from the pec you throw from scap retraction. We had a 2 hour talk and we are gonna talk again on zoom and it will be for 3 hours if we can. If you pull with your pec you are taking your shoulder out of the socket. If you use your scaps then that pulls the rubber band in our upper half and takes away the stress on our shoulder. With the pec we are stretching tissues and tendons in the shoulder with stress and you can’t get efficient arm rotation with the pec stretch. With scap retraction there’s more room for your arm to rotate around the humerus. There isn’t room with the pec stretch. Does that make sense to you? This came from Nyman!!!! Bleek said the samething and he’s the new Paul Nyman

    The stride or “leg strength” is overrated change my mind. Your momentum stops when you land so it doesn’t provide much power in the throw. Thats why you can run n gun/ crow hop/ whatever tf and still only get maybe an extra 5 mph (also probably because you’re throwing your body forward after landing but idk)The stride is only useful for getting closer to homeplate. I said what i said.

    • @manager4409

      I think because it's correlated to how fast you were lunging sidways. If you're explosively moving sideways (like tim lincecum) you're probably going to land farther down. Look at justin verlander when he was young compared to now. He basically just stands straight up with little to no stride, he only gets away with that cuz he's 6'5 or whatever. A little guy you're going to have to really get a lot from your legs.
