- 3D Lemmings (aka Lemmings 3D) was released in 1995, and it wasn't long before it got its own Christmas holiday themed edition, "Winterland." As far as 90s 3D updates to classic 2D games go, it wasn't awful! Assuming you can solve its biggest puzzle of all: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝟑𝐃 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐚.
RE-UPLOAD: Added some effects to the intro skit. I ended up receiving a bunch of comments from folks saying how much they disliked it, were confused by it, or even found it offensive. That is not the kind of response I ever want from a video, so it seemed worth re-editing. No one made any demands, but to me it made sense to edit things in order to avoid confusion in the future. In hindsight, the original skit out of context did not convey what I envisioned for the clone storyline anyway (the busted clones being stuck in a glitchy digital simulation.) The only thing different is there are now audiovisual glitches to imply the clones are broken sims, continuing the story in episodes from years prior. Everything else in the video remains the same!

Christmas Clones have been a comforting constant every Christmas since they were introduced and a staple of the channel. I don't have a strong opinion on the edits aside from getting a scare that they might disappear next year or something. Christmas / New Year is traditionally horrible for me every year, but strangely enough, this is one of the few wintertime things that I actually look forward to.
Hey, I hope you're doing okay. I haven't been feeling great this holiday season either, but it's comforting to know we can share things like fun vids with each other and prop each other up a little.
Glad you like it. I'm not really feeling the Christmas spirit this year, but I similarly like little Christmas stuff as well.

Didn't find the old one offensive, but I do think this version is clearer and funnier. Reminds me of the 'glitching' by characters in early Red Dwarf episodes.

Always look forward to the return of the Clint Christmas clones. The look on Clint's face tells you that he's screaming inside for help from the horror of having to deal with glitched out copies of himself around every Christmas.
It's not the holidays without an LGR Holiday special or four! I love this tradition, as it's become!
its weird, maybe an artifact of having lived in that era, but those bad early 3d games still feel more 3d than the actual 3d games i been playing the last 20 years

Old 2D lemmings is one of those games I ALWAYS found in other people's computers, especially school PCs.
I know you said the tutorial made things easy to get into, but holy cow does that look absolutely impenetrable from the footage and I loved the original 2D Lemmings!

Watched the first version and I wondered why the video was marked "3 minutes ago", so it was reuploaded. Love the glitched Christmas LGRs haha. I liked the og intro too, but the one now is funnier

Didn’t see anything wrong with the original intro. But this new one kinda feels like it gives the clones more character. Still worth a rewatch anyway for more LGR goodness

This edit, to me at least, suggests that at least two of the Creepy Christmas Clone Clints are starting to break down. Could be a bad capacitor between the two of them. Harblenargle really should get his own checked, especially after that brief foul-up last year.

I never thought of the clones being offensive. I got the joke years ago.
But yeah, I can definitely see it now, and how newer subscribers who aren't into the Christmas Clone Saga Lore(that's something I just said) would definitely get that impression.
That being said, I actually do find the edit funnier. Very creative and gives the joke better context for newer subs.

This was my first LGR "Christmas Clone Saga Lore" experience and even _I_ got the bit. Increasingly defective clones isn't a new trope, and I find it hard to believe it's something other people haven't seen before either.
Clint isn't the type to "punch down" anyways, so anyone who would even assume that was his intent is out of line, imo.
Still, his commitment to changing the skit is definitely admirable.
I appreciate the inlcusion of "Practice Mode" after over a decade of videos. Thanks for the good times, man.
Saw the old intro in the thumbnail preview and instantly clicked, that track takes me back to when i was 13 and first getting into retro gaming, that was almost 10 years ago now man i feel old
Great video as always, Love these christmas videos they always make my day and I rewatch them every year, this one won't be any different. The christmas clones are always a highlight of these videos too, never thought I would look forward to someone making a silly face and saying christmas each year but here we are.

So, within the official Christmas clone continuity, there are at least four confirmed clones. And of these four clones, only one can say anything other than the word 'Christmas'.

Edit: Well that was in the original version at least, turns out this was actually supposed to a simulation of some kind. This was apparently done because a few people believed that the original version was riffing on people with disabilities. That wasn't the case obviously, but it was changed to make the simulation angle more obvious in this version. So this ended up being a change for the better in my book.

@@Untrustedlife yeah, I think I remember hearing RUclips is beginning to suffer from some technical problems because of the removal of the dislike button screwing with stuff. Think how the Amstrad version of the Spectrum 128k doesn't work with some software because they changed the copyright from Sinclair to Amstrad if that helps you understand the situation.
I'm not even hearing impaired and the subtitles on these videos are delightful!

As a kid I found Lemmings 3D too confusing. Though I was very young so puzzle games were hard even in 2D. I'd love to see a VR remake with complete free look and the kind of palette UI you see in VR art apps.

It almost feels as though Christmas arrived twice here!
Being familiar with the christmas guys from older videos, i'd never accuse you of any bad intent cause thats clearly not what you were going for, but i can see how one unfamiliar with the trope could interpret it in a very negative way, specially out of context, which again is not provided by this video alone. Combine this with the anual nature of the christmas guys and it was kinda bound to happen sooner or later.
The glitchy-effect is neat btw. I like how it still shows what they are supposed to be, but also adds a bit of appropriate "videogame" flair.
The older ones were popping up like gremlins all over, this one was more just centered around the way they talk and I did think of what other people did. It's fine, nothing was lost, he just clarified.
The Christmas Clones are amazing. Also, I have the PS1 version and the early 3D camera is a struggle

To be fair, none of the messages I got were assuming ill intent. They were largely concerned that _others_ might assume ill intent in the future, or take it the wrong way without context.

As an autistic person it's not about dumping on Clint, it's about recognizing and not feeding into society's negative portrayals of some people. Clint just used common traits that media depicts as "this person is an idiot," which sucks because I consider this channel a comfort zone for me...so to be reminded that some people see things I do, or the way that I can be sometimes, as me being an idiot when I'm just trying to chill and watch LGR.
Clint has taken responsibility and shown that that *wasn't* what he was doing, nor tried to backpedal to defend it regardless. It's just a little disheartening to see so many people try and invalidate a real perspective because they're unfamiliar with it or don't share it.
I bought a copy of 3D lemmings and enjoyed it. Was unaware of this extra.
Can't express how much I love your Xmas old game reviews/gameplays. I find holidays in games (or holiday themed games) to be so heartwarming. Seeing these kind of reviews just make me want to find and play these games. I never played Lemmings but that xmas ☃cheer ⛄has me sold. Heck id find it a real treat if you could do a holiday review for July (xmas in July)

From past experience it's never usually the majority who're voicing their opinion on the matter. Thankfully most people here seem like reasonable, rational people who didn't blow it out of proportion.

@@em_birch In this case it was main the parents of special needs kids, including some who Clint knows personally. And frankly if they found it troublesome, no matter what other people not in that position might think, Clint was right to make the edit.

I found the idea of Glitchy Christmas Clones quite funny.
I think this could be a entertaining mod idea for games to add.

I always thought the Mario Vs Donkey Kong sub-series with the "minis" were heavily inspired by (or ripped off) of Lemmings.

I don't really remember much about the original intro skit, but I thought it was okay, if a bit long. I don't know why so many people were hating on it or saying that it was offensive, but regardless, this is still a great episode.

@@lloydlandrum3040 I'd say if someone extrapolates from that character that it's implied that it has "special needs", it says more about that person's mindset than Clints.
If the messages people sent me didn't make sense to me, then I wouldn't have acted. They made valid points that I hadn't considered.
Combine that with the folks watching from the opposite side of the internet, leaving comments like "lol, making fun of retards is based" and so on. Which, yeah, that type of audience is _not_ the type I want to cultivate either. Folks on both sides were getting the wrong idea so it simply made sense to re-edit.

However, considering how insanely sensitive people have become in today's culture, my best guess would be that viewers felt that the Clint clones were making fun of those with developmental delays (or whatever the PC term for it is currently).
@@fakeshemp9599 The concern was about the clone characters being seen as generically "mentally unwell" out of context, using what they referred to as ableist stereotypes to convey that idea, and how it might be misconstrued by others as malicious in the future. So I added a glitch effect to build on the existing story from previous years of the clones being part of a simulation, aiming to make the skit better fit my intention.
@@LGR I think the main thing to consider was the voice / hand gestures you did, which is the stereotype. There are all sorts of ways to convey a broken clone which don't have the same mannerisms of the intellectually disabled. I personally wasn't offended, but it's easily avoided in the future by going for different 'glitchy' effects like you did here

As someone with cerebral palsy, it never even crossed my mind that the original intro could be seen as offensive to mentally handicapped people. I think some people take (what's very obviously) jokes a little bit too seriously.
Same here, and I'm an Aspie. While I do understand where both sides are coming from (mainly because the most noticable, according to Clint, have or knows someone who has soecial needs), I tend to get more offended by those who white knight for autistics at least than some intentionally offensive Asperger's joke.
Never crossed my mind either.
I'm kind of baffled that someone would even think that the clones where meant to represent real people, mentally handicapped or not.

In your old video, your annoyance was directed at the clones, but now you're clearly focusing it into the camera at those imagined viewers. I don't know how you did it, but it was a very apt edit! ;-P

The PS1 version is pretty much identical, or at least it's like I remember it being like, I haven't played it in ages and I'm in no hurry, I didn't like it very much to begin with for the exact same reasons listed in this video. 2D Lemmings is definitely where it's at!

I have fond memories of the demo, but probably I wouldn't be able to stand that clunky camera today.
I know you heard a bunch of times but this skit makes so much more sense for your demeanor. It was like pictonary except for the layman's eye could not guess the plot. I thought you we're doing a Adam Sandler skit that's off suit for your channel, but I was like hey why not experiment with no down vote from I.
This edit clearly shows glitch effect, which is more pleasing to my ears. Whatever you do, do not pull a modern Star Wars story where you tell the story in visual media than showing it. What i love about your channel is the excellence in every edit as you tell and show a like or past memory game than adding a quick name drop plug.

I vaugly remember this coming out when I was a kid and everyone hating it compared to the original Lemmings games
I remember playing some variation of lemmings in 2005 or so... Don't know if any came with old windows versions but in middle school the computers in my tech class weren't running XP, I know that for sure. We only needed them for basic sketch ups of projects and got to play games sometimes.

@@alexhobbs1208 That was it. I have a friend who didn't take to it well as her son is special needs child. She wasn't mad about it, just thought it was a bit too close. That's 2021, seems people take things a bit to personally these days. My son is on the Spectrum but as a long time LGR viewer I didn't see it that way at all. I know the skit though and as has been said, Clint just ain't that guy in any way.
