One thing you could do with this bass: Turn off the bridge pickup, and pretend it’s not even there - and hey, you’ve got a Precision sound with a Jazz-style neck. Not a bad combination at all.
THANK YOU for showing tone knob configurations of 20ish and 70ish %, most youtube bass reviews show 0 and 100 and really the sweet spots is where its at, really appreciate that
I am a Bass beginner, currently playing my way trough the deep notes on a squier pj-bass for 200€, so I dont have much expierience with what a good Bass sounds like or should sound like. But when I heard this Fender played for the first time (which was a few seconds ago) my heart dropped!! I NEED this bass! 😍 i am in love. Thank you for rhis informative video! I will watch it every day now, until I bought my own 😍
I love my player Jag. Turn up both pick up volumes, then slightly roll off bridge pick up until the tone gets louder for the sweet spot of this bass for me. Fitted flatwounds on and it sounds great.
I got one of these 2 1/2 years ago, and I really love it. There were some issues that can sometimes be expected with a bit more budget models, the nut was not that great, so the E string could sometimes jump out, and the frets had to be treated a bit, but other than that it is fantastic.
Good Morning Anthony, I really enjoy your videos. I began playing a little over 60 years ago. My primary Bassists to which I listened were Joe Osborn, Bob Moore, and Carol Kaye. Joe played on those Johnny Rivers Live at the Whisky a Go Go albums, which I wore out several of those playing along with them. As you know, Joe and Carol both played with a pick between the neck pickup and the neck. Bob played a lot of upright bass, on which I actually started then bought a Precision Bass and a Bassman Amp. I also played at Roland Jane's studio in which he requested that I play with a pick. I'm still playing Fenders, just switched to a Jazz Bass with a Fender Rumble 500 head and two 115 cabinets plus a Rumble 500 210 combo, and yes I still play mostly with a pick, it depends on the song. Have you a good one today. Play that Bass, Make some Music, and Smile a Lot. Keep on Thumping.
thanks for ur great review from Japan! Now I’m thinking which bass is good for my second bass guitar, Stingray sub and Jaguar Player. But Japanese didn’t review about jaguar so I have had difficulty in getting information about it. Now I’m determined to buy it! Thank u very much!
Playing with a pick is just as valid as with fingers. I can do both an use both in my music depending on the sound and style i need. Pick has a completely different tone and i find it especially useful for faster songs. Playing 16th notes at 220 bpm is a lot easier and sounds a lot cleaner with pick over fingers (unless you are some sort of bass god). So if all yall elitists in the comments (all 2 or 3 of you) can just not be assholes that be great.
Zech Evans thats about it bro. Nobody can tell you how to play your instrument, for that matter if you want you can use a dead beaver’s tooth if it sounds dope lol
There’s no “right way” to play a bass, pick or fingers, single notes or chords, higher notes or lower notes, it’s all valid, long as you make it sound good.
I've been a fender fanatic for years, but it's always been Ps and J's ,I think when I buy my first American fender it's going to be a bag, just for something different,at one time I wanted just and American p bass and j bass matching, now I'm adding the jag definitely
Sounds great! Needs a chrome control plate on the upper horn to complete the look (even if it's a control switch you'd never need). Just looks like it's missing a bit of chrome.
Tried the P bass - neck too massive. Tried the J bass - couldn't duplicate that P bass classic sound. Tried the Jaguar and bought it! Great slim neck but can sound like a P bass. Love the shape of the body and overall look. Best of both worlds.
I gotta come check your shop out,I only live 80 mile's up the road, lol. I'm in the Burgh all the time, North Shore is one of my favorite places in the world. I only got Hubbard music in my area , their good when it comes to stick, but they do most of their business with marching band, and school stuff,I want a shop of old players that have seen and done it all and KNOW what I want when I walk in,EMPIRE seems like the place🤟🤟 I haven't heard of a 412 area code since I was like 6,lol so used to hearing 724,lol
I bought one of these several years ago: Candy Apple Red w/ Antique Ivory Pearl pickguard. Each time I arrive with THIS baby and unpack it ..... " Oooooooo .... ahhhhhhh .... " 😊
nice video, i was wondering.. that buzzing from the single coil J-pickup, what if i was to replace it with the noiseless version? i was thinking of buying this but when i heard that humming i was turned off by it...
I like your reviews a lot. I am a beginner, played some in high school and looking to pick it back up 15 years later. Trying to decide between the Player P-Bass or a Player Jaguar. Can't decide between the versatility of the Jaguar or the classic, simple tone of the P-Bass.
Thanks for watching. You can't go wrong either way. Adding a J pickup in the bridge is a great option to add tone-wise. Jaguar is definitely a little unique physically. I've been thinking about this bass for a little bit because I have a pinched nerve in my left arm and its been going on for a while. And I wonder if this medium-scale would be better for me than full-scale
After you switched to the J pick up and grabbed the pick, Anthony, my first reaction was that it sounded like Ross Valory. He's the first person I think of with that specific combination. What's the scale of this model? Is it closer to that of a J bass than a P bass? You might have mentioned that in the video, but I was too busy enjoying the sound demo to pay attention.
But that's just a comment. I like the clip very much. It actually shows what's this bass capable of. I personally prefer p-bass style neck pickup.. but miss pastorius-style bridge pickup. I have p-bass with jazzbass neck.. and it's getting more and more somewhere between. I already have bought seymore duncan bridge pickup and electronics to make it pj-bass in near future. This could be my spare bass. How about the neck of this thing? Is it more like jazz bass, or p-bass?
I’m also no good without a strap. But I’d imagine if you work in a music store, you need to learn as you’ll be grabbing a lot of instruments throughout the day and demoing stuff.
This. This is my comfort video. I come back here every few months.
same, stg I've been trying to find an excuse to get this since last april
@@dannypops5629 get it, it’s an awesome bass, I got it in sage green with a pau ferro fretboard
@@krishanattri9305 hell yeah, I got mine about a month ago in orange with the pao ferro
Mine too, kept coming back to it. Just ordered the capri orange, currently waiting like a child for it to get here.

Great!! Enjoy your bass journey! Thanks for watching - Anthony
Did u buy it yet?
im convinced this is the best player series bass ! seriously both the j and p same quality pickup. great playing brother !
All Player instruments are super solid at a comfortable price! I'd gig one anytime! Thanks for watching - Anthony
I love my player Jag. Turn up both pick up volumes, then slightly roll off bridge pick up until the tone gets louder for the sweet spot of this bass for me. Fitted flatwounds on and it sounds great.
Finally here is a sensible, clear and fairly thorough explanation of the three knobs. It's very helpful. Thanks.
Good review ! The P/J config makes a lot of sense to me.

it better be flawless for 800 bucks

Thanks Jerry! That's always the goal! Appreciate you sharing and for watching - Anthony
I'm in love with that tone
The p with the j gives it a robust sound...my favorite bass for sure
“I’m not good with a pick..”
Proceeds to vibe...
...Still sounds pro 😂
lol..Thank You.. Definitely workin on it with my playing. Some days are better than others. Thanks for watching - Anthony
Love the tone at the 7:40 mark!

THAT is how to do a review! Lovely bass too. Thanks mate.
@6:25 Very 70s J Bass vibes!! Classic disco tone.

I use a pic when the song I’m playing requires two notes at one over and over

Looks great. Sounds great. Cool review...
Would love to try this with RotoSound swing bass strings, big plectrum through my old Ashdown rig. Sweet!
P bass pickups are my favorite but I've never played a PJ pickup configuration. Gotta play one... Sounds excellent 👌
Thank you for using a pick!
The need to offer this in a five string version with 24frets I would recommend that they do
Thanks for using a pick/plectrum 😁
Did a great job with this.. 👍

Very good review. On my short list
This is a great review. Thanks!
Wish they'd done a lefty version of this.

This is a full scale model, but getting a short scale absolutely can help.
I only own American jazz basses. I am intrigued by this one though. Is the body smaller than a standard jazz or P bass?
No I wouldn't way smaller, just different. The stronger offset makes it a unique experience. They are cool though! Thanks for watching - Anthony
The cool shape notwithstanding, how is this bass different from a P/J Precision bass, in terms of tone?
After you switched to the J pick up and grabbed the pick, Anthony, my first reaction was that it sounded like Ross Valory. He's the first person I think of with that specific combination.

The neck dimensions are the same as the jazz bass. 9.5” radius fingerboard, 34” scale, and 1.5” nut width. It’s perfect with PJ setup.
SOLD!!!!
I love that song you're playing at 2:30. What song is that?
What amp and eq settings? Would like to know to gauge tone
I wish you played the the orange one
Sounds the same haha
Which one would you recommand, the maple neck ones or the pau ferro ones? 🤔 Thanks, great vid!
Total personal preference! I prefer Maple, as it tends to give a little more growl when I dig. Thanks for watching - Anthony
What bass amp are you using? Middle settings?
This or squier cv jaguar?
Subtitles 4:51 “I love that out of the penis” hahaha guy u need those subtitles fixed
I feel like P/PJ bass and flatwounds just belong together.
Is it really 32"?
34"
This sounds metal as fuck.
id like one of these without the bridge (j) pickup... that would be cool
It's funny how everyone always plays these demos without strap. I just can't do it.

Playing with pick is ILLEGAL. Epico
Tell that to Chris Squier.
Bollocks! Go tell JJ Burnel that! Lmfao.
People really don’t know davie504 lol
Talk too much
What's with the colours of basses these days? Makes them look like cheap toys.
using a pick is a sin
You clearly don't play bass, lmao.
It's a common joke said in the bass community
