As a regular 1/2 and 1/3 player I want to echo what everyone else is saying. Please don’t bluff and fold to aggression. Value is the name of the game, them folks don’t fold pairs
I’m not sure you’re allowed to say run bad after some of these hands. 1/2 and 1/3 is about making a hand and getting paid. You’re forcing it way too much instead of being patient and you’re paying the price
You'll turn it around but if I were you, I would make fewer thin value calls and bluff catchers at 1/3 games. People play pretty transparently at that level. You're leveling people who don't need leveling imo. You've seen how some of these clowns play. You think they're 3rd or 4th level thinking at the table? Bruh they're thinking about the next time the drink girl is coming around. Most of the time 1/3 is just folding until you make hands, then getting paid off by people who don't know better. I'm rooting for you man
Being used to $2-$5 then trying to play $1-$3 isn’t as easy as you’d think.. most of them don’t know what their doing so you kinda have to play the simplest strategy, raise when you have it and fold when you don’t.. bluffs are hard to get through because they’ll call you with bottom pair. On the other hand you can exploit that anytime you have a good hand. No more hero calls on big pots because 99% of the players at 1-3 are never bluffing with a turn or river bet
yeah the check-call, check-call, donk lead for pot on a four flush board is effectively never a bluff lmao. they are not turning QJo/JTo into a bluff, ever, ever, ever. low stakes, can just over-fold to big bets on rivers
22:05 when you isolate a wide range to 7bb and get a couple of callers and then UTG 3bets 2.5x to $50. When you call because of Pot odds, it usually isn't going to go well against a 3% 3bet range. You will have a 2 SPR against a nitty range. It's more or less playing bingo. I think this is one of the top 5 reasons these low stake players lose so much money. If you check wizard on what to do when you use a 5-7x open and face a small 3bet 2.5x most of the range is still folding because the SPR is so low! I'm rooting for you on this journey, I have watched every episode so far. I think this K4s hand is forced aggression due to off the table financial pressure. I've been there many times before. Off the table events impacts the way you play on the table a bit too often. Best of luck!
I never understood how people try to analyze low stakes players ranges and lines they take. In my experience alot of low stakes players play erratic and play any 2 cards. Hard to put players on hands. Just got to run good and don't bluff that much
"Once you're at rock bottom, the only place to go is up" is what people usually say in situations like this. Seems like you're tilted at 30:30, gotta stop donating money to greg's table and try to build yourself back up. Favorite vlog series, and I hope it gets better from here
Everyone plays their hands face up. It is a different game for sure. His style is more for pros. Normal people will never fold top pair decent kicker. He just has to have it.
@@samuelwilson5465i know it is a running joke to move up stakes " where they respect your raises", but it is super hard to play in a stationy game and play LAG. He is probably going to have to switch to TAG.
The nut heart flush losing to a full house on the river was a truly bad beat. But calling down a big river bet with a 4-spade board and only the 5 of spades in hand...that's on you, as you're going to lose that hand at showdown too often to make calling profitable. Also, the AKs hand was a fold against 2 effective shoves. Big respect for showing the rough hands and all you're trying to accomplish!
It doenst matter if he had the 5 high or j high flush. The jam is representing only nut flush. If you think how high his flush was mattered, you hav already misunderstood what hero calling means.
Definitely some brutal runouts and weird stuff happening in these hands. NLH is amazing you can go from absolutely crushing to nothing working losing every spot inside a few sessions. Can make a solid af player feel like a total donk at times. The hardest thing I have is preventing the tilt monster from coming out in these sessions. Only takes 1 butchered hand to double a loss for a session. Appreciate you sharing the good and bad Sam, you're extremely good NLH player mate you'll be back to crushing in no time. Best wishes!!
Thx for sharing us the pain and down in poker! It’s not easy vlogging bad plays, the bad beats and getting cooler when you’re ahead.. hang in there and hope you get some wins and good luck at the felt!!
Japan YTer here been following your poker journey for a while. You've been instrumental to improving my own game so thank you. Don't give up! You are definitely very good and can run up this challenge no problem! After seeing the limited hands we have been shown at Greg's home game, it seems like they play similar to 1/2 or 1/3 ... Essentially the "they are NEVER bluffing" stakes. Maybe you need to approach that game tighter than how you normally play your 2/5 game and bluff less? Anyways keep it up, you got this, and I'll keep watching and learning!
Yeah some of these hands histories are bad. Forcing too much. 1/3 if you are good is meant to be boring unfortunately. 2/5 is where you can start to begin thinking a little deeper. Say whatever you want but I'm folding AKs to a cold 4b from BB in 1/3 unless I have a read the player is crazy. That is always AA or KK. It's boring but it's the truth.
if they put half their stack in but not all-in, it's not a level to look stronger (that's a level too high), but because they really want you to call against their monster

Oh man this was brutal to watch, run bad is real! Those flushes 😭seems like you need to do a little adjusting to 1/3. Good luck my man I’m rooting for you!
One thing I would point out is that in my experience at the lowest levels players dont fight aggression with aggression very often. When you have been showing strength throughout the hand and someone else takes an aggressive stance/the betting lead away they almost always have it. The times when someone tends to bluff is when they already have the betting lead or the hero has checked to them or checked back the flop. Might be different in the games you’re playing though. 🤷♂️
Well said. You can give them opportunities to stab and call them thin with your bluff catchers, but to be making thin value calls like this at 1/3 is a huge mistake. They're betting or raising aggressively to get money in the pot, not to take momentum away.

I'm always shifting my focus from poker to day/intraday trading forex. Both require systematic play, and are probabilistic, so there are definitely down swings with both. Last time I played poker was in Vegas at South Point. Things have changed the last few years in live poker. The minimum tournament buyin is about $100 at least these days. Competition is TOUGH at these low stakes because of the guarantees, which is a little nutty but that's just how it goes. You get more nits at 1/2 than 2/5 I've heard, similarly you get more tight play at the lower stake tourneys cuz these guys are probably on their last bullets 😂 I fired 3 buyins at various daily tourneys and the best one is their earliest 10am or whatever cuz it's the biggest GTD. Of course I ran deep but didn't cash 😢
If you haven't been in a gym in awhile take it easy you don't want to visit a doctor today especially now. Regarding poker variance how far does it go, hint: Daniel Negreanu has played since almost forever and never got dealt a royal flush.
Stop calling so many rivers in spots that are so underbluffed On top of that your hero calling with the absolute bottom of your range your showing up there with Stop thinking you're battling euro regs at 10/20/40 Your just non stop punting
Let me like, comment, and subscribe as many accounts as possible, cause bro is killing, loving the style, sorry bout the downswing, you'll grind it back🎉
76 hand just fold pre, need to play tight linear range, hit value, and best hand everyone at 1/3. 76 obv in later position Can just overlimp 55/small pocket pairs at a passive table and if you miss your hand just fold. They call with anything^ J8 too loose You probably dont even need to jam AK over 100BBs at 1/3 to avoid variance + a lot of 1/3 players usually do not play anything less than QQ/KK for less
You're a mid-high stakes player! I'm feeling like the lower stakes player pool is losing too much money (in general, to rake) for you to make money with your playstyle?
You called a limp raise with K4s.... yeah, you deserved to get stacked there. In small stakes a limp raise is always a premium. Just fold for $30 more. Just fold if it's a min raise. JUST FOLD! Also. When you're facing really bad players like these guys. Stop over thinking hands and ranges in GTO terms. They don't fucking apply. I've gotten into MANY arguments about this because I play mostly 1/2 in a room FULL of bad players. You never expect villain to have AJo on that board and to hero call your turn bet. But I promise you bad players are just that dumb. They will make that call and then bitch and moan when the 4th spade doesn't hit. But act like they're a poker genius when it does. So start thinking in the terms of "would my opponent have called my turn bet with the naked As? Yes they would. It's a fold." I know in higher limit games like 5-10 and up you'll get exploited by thinking that way But 1-2 and 1-3 you'll be the exploiting by folding. Also I recommend checking back if checked to on that river. Because they will also call your turn bet with a naked As hoping to check raise. It sucks ass when you check back and see they had 2p. But I promise you you're going to get called by so many better flushes there. I've seen people call an all in with the 9 high flush just because they had top pair. Called all the way down. Make a flush on the river. Then call an all in just because they had a flush and can't let go. My advice. Play TAG. Pile in stacks when you're really strong. You'll get looked up a lot by these bad players. Fold a lot more than you're used too. You will have less variance but your wins will be smaller. But I'll take consistent $200 wins over $2000 wins followed up by a few -$1000 losses in a row. My sessions run like this. +210, +245, +140, +380, -500, +170, +200, -240, +700, +330, +80, -600, -250, +300. It's not the best. But it's consistent and I don't usually face big down swings.
You can live, somewhat comfortably in your car. Put a small amount of winnings in it and it's not that hard. Get some screens for your windows and a usb fan and you're fine.
I said this in your last video, you’re not playing like a person who is living without bankroll from day-to-day. you don’t call three bets for 1/8th of your stack preflop with 7/6 suited. You’re still playing like you’re 300+ bb deep which is vastly less straight forward with 100-150bb in 1/3. Unfortunately, I think you have some leaks to fix until you switch stakes.
Wh3n u r down u have to tighten up your game bigtime. Dont be try to bluff someone to make content. I would rather watch you grind then donk off ur money.
playing bad cards pre.... k4h making poor calls like the 1 card flush... talking yourself into calls... those are huge leaks... playing like this makes even 20k a hard target...
from being an aggressive mid high stakes poker player into the micro low stakes.. if you can't change your mentality you will never do well in the low stakes again
#1. Build a bankroll. #2 Play like a nit until, you get a roll. #3 No trying to steal or bluff people off their hands. #4 Respect peoples raises, until you have that bankroll. #5 Stay and eat healthy and get lots of sleep. You look drained and nobody plays well when, there is nothing in the tank. I wish you the best of luck on the road for your first $20,000. Then on to the TWO MILL. MJK
Unfortunately I think you need that job to have a steady flow of income, even if the next few sessions go well your not bankrolled for it, which can put you back out of the game. Accumulating debt that you may not be able to pay back also not wise. My advice would be get that job, find a cheaper place to live, use the extra cash to build a bankroll put in more study. I dislike my job but am doing the same thing although it’s slower.. good luck.

i'm Old looked like a Hotel Room door you were going into ,& i'm like "Damn where is He Staying that still Uses a Physical Key?" 🤪😁
Love to see ya try and get up to next blind level. 1-3 or 1-2 just a difficult place because its so unpredictable...Congrats on a new place, a sofa and a hot shower with a kitchen. I am 6'3" and have alot of empathy about sleeping in a vehicle. It just is unbearably uncomfortabal....
You got this Sam. All us degens are rooting for you. If you can’t do it, none of us can 😂
Implement table changes. Those guys had your number. Move.
Greg's game: no options and the players all know him. Day in. Day out.
Negative EV.
Anything less than 500nl is just a donkfest, essentially a pure gamble
Last time I played poker was in Vegas at South Point. Things have changed the last few years in live poker. The minimum tournament buyin is about $100 at least these days. Competition is TOUGH at these low stakes because of the guarantees, which is a little nutty but that's just how it goes. You get more nits at 1/2 than 2/5 I've heard, similarly you get more tight play at the lower stake tourneys cuz these guys are probably on their last bullets 😂
I fired 3 buyins at various daily tourneys and the best one is their earliest 10am or whatever cuz it's the biggest GTD. Of course I ran deep but didn't cash 😢
If you haven't been in a gym in awhile take it easy you don't want to visit a doctor today especially now. Regarding poker variance how far does it go, hint: Daniel Negreanu has played since almost forever and never got dealt a royal flush.
bro did you lose your whole bankroll in Macau or do you start from scratch as a challange?
Is there a video on how you went busto? Cause doing this at your own will seems insane. Either way good luck!!!
Stop calling so many rivers in spots that are so underbluffed
On top of that your hero calling with the absolute bottom of your range your showing up there with
Stop thinking you're battling euro regs at 10/20/40
Your just non stop punting
Love your content Sam. Greg's game is sus
i thought he made 100k in prev challenge. why is his net worth $0? somebody please fill me in
Great video dawg love the series and am on a similar journey. Quick question, why do you choose to play tournaments vs microcash games?
Let me like, comment, and subscribe as many accounts as possible, cause bro is killing, loving the style, sorry bout the downswing, you'll grind it back🎉
Ouch back to ABC poker and keep rye faith
76 hand just fold pre, need to play tight linear range, hit value, and best hand everyone at 1/3. 76 obv in later position
Can just overlimp 55/small pocket pairs at a passive table and if you miss your hand just fold. They call with anything^
J8 too loose
You probably dont even need to jam AK over 100BBs at 1/3 to avoid variance + a lot of 1/3 players usually do not play anything less than QQ/KK for less
for less than 100BBs
Not gonna lie my man but the stache works wonders on you. I'd get it back prompto :)
How many hours have you spent studying during this challenge?
Where did you get the cash to put 1k into that 1-3 game if your net worth was already negative? Did you do a cash advance before that session?
You're a mid-high stakes player! I'm feeling like the lower stakes player pool is losing too much money (in general, to rake) for you to make money with your playstyle?
That intro made me hungry! Low-budget cooking bud next?
i am sure you get find one of those weekly motels for less than 300. That saves 800 a month which is 1600 more before taipi
Weekly hotels for $300? Not in Canada you can't...
It's a fold." I know in higher limit games like 5-10 and up you'll get exploited by thinking that way
But 1-2 and 1-3 you'll be the exploiting by folding.
Hopefully Calgary's been nice to you
You can live, somewhat comfortably in your car.
Why soak green onions in jar?
Wh3n u r down u have to tighten up your game bigtime. Dont be try to bluff someone to make content. I would rather watch you grind then donk off ur money.
So you didn’t re raise the aq hrts bc u was scared to get 4 bet. 30 seconds later u raise j-10 hrts and lose 100 bucks when ur roll is 300.
I don’t understand I seen this just Guy playing in my city for 10/25/50 for $20,000 pots so can somebody explain why he only has $1000
playing bad cards pre.... k4h making poor calls like the 1 card flush... talking yourself into calls... those are huge leaks... playing like this makes even 20k a hard target...
from being an aggressive mid high stakes poker player into the micro low stakes.. if you can't change your mentality you will never do well in the low stakes again
MJK
Sam. Are you ok??
Are you running bad or thinking bad?
Way better off going to the casino than the home game. Why are your trying to be a hero at 1/3. Ha ha. No big bluffing on the river
Bro it definitely sounds like you should probably just take a break from poker for a bit. Taking out cash advances? for what? just to get tilted
Hey bud, am in surrey. Think I can get an invite to that micro game
You think about yourself. I'm a good player. I play like a pro. But you're not good enough for professional poker. These are the facts.
I dislike my job but am doing the same thing although it’s slower.. good luck.
