Other than that, it's a beautiful demonstration of blind side parallel parking and definitely helps my brain register what is going on from the outside for when I do this in practice.
Hardest part for me of the CDL test. My advice is when your practicing this before the actual test, try to find a place market you line up with and use that as the point to start turning. So find one point to start turning the trailer in, and then a second point to counter steer the trailer into the box. Once your in the box it's easy from there.

Just had to do this maneuver on my CDL test a few days ago.. I didn't get it perfect, I got too "deep" in the box and my rear tractor tires went slightly over the boundary line. I always made the same mistake in class too.. make sure you don't wait too late to make your counter steer to avoid that mistake! Although I was really nervous, especially on the road portion, I passed! My examiner told me I did slightly better than average on my test in general. I'll take that! Lol. Don't beat yourself up too much for hitting a cone.. you don't have to get everything perfect to pass the test!
Tried it failed, passed pre trip, straight back and offset did good on. Had to much angle on trailer my 3rd attempt I got it in but was to late by then. I know truck drivers and they say “ 30 years of driving truck they never parallel park”. I guess something those politicians and regulators might think up to make something more difficult
In Europe in cities you definitly wind up doing these manoeuvres more when you look for quick parking spot to get Some shuteye , it’s always better to know a manouver and not need it opposed to do it and not knowing how to perform it ....
I had to reverse park a semi trailer the other night to join a que of trucks waiting for asphalt, don't know how I did it but by studying tutorials like this I should be able to do it again.👍
Have done this several times over the last almost 30 years of driving. Most of the time you don't need it but you never know. Especially with parking becoming a premium nowadays. One time as a Household Goods Mover, had to parallel park in front of the customer's house in between 2 cars with a light pole on the curbside of the trailer. The customer said if I didn't see it I wouldn't believe it! Had to have a spotter behind the trailer because could not see the car behind me
This maneuver had me the most nervous on test day. If you're off just a little bit at any point in the procedure, shit gets all wonky and you end up crooked. Luckily I ended up busting it out perfect.
Once you see it done it’s very simple I guess it’s all about backing straight and you’ll finally get it!!! Had a hard time doing it but finally was able to get it done!!!
Thank god they have drivers pass this test to get their CDL. With all the parallel parking spots for semi's around the country, where would drivers be without this!!!

Take your time watching the trailer.if you have to pull up,pull ALL THE WAY up & set up again.Take advantage of tge free pull ups to set up.Great video
In over 20 years of trucking, I’ve never had to blindside parallel park. There is almost ALWAYS a place to park where you are not risking damage or injury.
I really like your videos well edited and put together ive been driving now for almost 3 years but i was wondering of sometime you could do a blindside 45° backin video?
The driver in the cab is turning counter, but that's wrong, the truck is turning clockwise. The narrator also seems to mix up tractor vs. trailer when he's describing wheels passing into the box.
I'm doing the new 2024 modernized skills test. Reverse, offset, backing to the right with a 53 foot trailer And it has been very difficult for us students at the school I attend to get this maneuver done correctly and I'm wondering if I can use the same formula That you used on this blind side parallel parking exercise, because it seems very similar? And can I use the 3 seconds that you count when turning left? And then stir, right to get my tractor and trailer straight at the correct angle? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. You have great content on your videos. Very easy to understand thanks again?
Yes I think offset and parallel setups will work on this newer modernized skills test. It seems to me the exercise you're referring to is the offset, parallel and ally dock all rolled into one exercise. In the video the trailer I'm using is a 48'. If you have a 53' you may want to adjust your count. So the 3 sec count would be a good starting point. If you find you are over shooting the lane try 2.5 or 2 sec count. If you are under shooting then bump up your second count. Good luck!
I was shocked by how good I got at parallel parking the 18-wheelers of my CDL school. I went from never had even driven a stick shift car--to being able to play out manual double clutching Eaton-Fuller truck trainies like a Stradivarius violin. However, my parallel parking sucked for weeks in school, but after studying how trucks move with my die cast 1/50 scale semi-truck and trailer on my kitchen table, I was able to put those visualization into action--which at last made me an expert at parallel parking 53' foot trailers in just 2.5 minutes, where it had been taking me 15-minutes! LOL!
Counting doesn't always work, some trucks are faster than others. But still shows a great example. Except the counter-clockwise clip at 1 minute in, clearly the steer tires turn clockwise like he said tho.
Yes! I was taught with either conventional or unconventional parallel parking all of your reference points are on the outside. A-line DOT bumper with furthest cone. Turn steering wheel away from target then reverse until you see 3/4 of your landing gear then STOP(this is the ONLY reference point that will be on the INSIDE). Counter steer until trailer and tractor are straight; your reference point at this point is the cone on the OUTSIDE to the REAR which you should have a 6 to 9 foot gap from the rear outside of the trailer if you didn’t overshoot or undershoot the 3/4 of the landing gear. Then proceed backwards until your fifth axle wheel on the OUTSIDE is on the boundary line then STOP. Then turn steering wheel TOWARDS your target and proceed backwards and watch for your 3rd axle wheel to come within 5 inches of the OUTSIDE boundary line then STOP! Lastly, counter steer and back the tractor into the space and then it should slide right Into place.
yea, i was also taught the whole reference point thing too which made it impossible for me to do properly.. this makes it 10x easier. just look in your mirror and pretend like you are looking at ur reference point (note: i couldnt understand it the way my instructor taught me so i came here, this makes sense & i will try it tomorrow)
Did this for the first time today in school. Took me 5 or 6 tries before I realized what I was doing wrong. Just do what this guy did on the video and you won't need any pull-ups. I try and not use any.
Just a heads up- At :59 it says turn clockwise (which is reflected in the animation)…but the guy in top left is shown turning counter clockwise. Don’t let that slip you up.
for people who need a marker to know when to stop turning look at the first bar of your landing gear until your truck is turned about 60% and that should help
Don't count to three, not all units going to idle at the same RPM and roll at the same speed watch your trailer and know when to start turning your steering to straighten out the tractor with the trailer. All this info about counting to three or turning left to go right and turning right to go left is rubbish. Learn how the thing works and understand the relationship between the two stop watching the end/back of the trailer and focus on the entire length. If you want to know how to operate a thing you have to first learn how it works.
@ricardonelson8263 You’re absolutely right! The best thing you can do is to watch the trailers reaction so you can make corrections as needed. No two parking spots will ever be the same, or docks so in the real world it’s impossible to use the “procedure” that most driving schools will teach you. You have to know your truck, pay attentions to the trailer, and make corrections as needed. Don’t overthink it. Personally, I never pay attention to which way I’m turning the steering wheel because I’m paying attention to what the truck and trailer are doing and turning the wheel as necessary. When you start thinking about clockwise vs counterclockwise, counting to 3, or which way turns the trailer left or right in a stressful situation such as backing into a door across a 4 lane highway you will create so much stress you won’t be able to think straight. The best thing you can do is practice backing as much as possible in an open parking lot and just get used to watching your trailer (especially the tandems), and where they track without looking at the steering wheel or even thinking about which way you’re turning it. Then, it will eventually become natural muscle memory. This applies to any backing situation, and not just parallel parking. Also, in the real world you will have varying load weights that will affect how the trailer reacts. Plus, the weight of the load will also determine where your trailer tandems are. With a heavier load the tandems will typically need to be further back to distribute the weight, which shortens the trailer tail swing but makes the trailer track further from the tractor’s path. I know the goal is to pass the test, but to become a good professional driver you will need to master backing up in every scenario. I wish everyone the best!
1:00-1:03, the steering wheel is turned left but the steer tire turned to the right. Why is that?? At this moment, steer tires should turn right so the trailer goes left.
Thank you for the video!

And close to the end when he says clockwise he turns counterclockwise
@@donovanlovato2369 I noticed that too! I kelp rewinding it too make sure... I got a test in a few days so I was looking for pointers because Blind Side parallel parking is my weakness... idk to follow what he say or what he did or just find a better video lol
I’m just starting never driven truck before I can tell by watching videos and just. Learning as much as I can I could tell the rig was a kenworth the wheel has the Peterbilt logo on it haha
I PASSED my test! I messed up Every time while I was practicing! Come test time I Aced it!! This video is what helped a LOT!!
Thankfully in my stata NJ this wasn't required
Bro you said clockwise on a counter clockwise steer, 3rd set of steer directions. Just thought I would mention it
New drivers cannot use this method our reaction time isn't that quick, better to use reference points and you're two get outs
Way to go Sharon!! Be a safe driver.
I really like your videos well edited and put together ive been driving now for almost 3 years but i was wondering of sometime you could do a blindside 45° backin video?
Big mistake on 0:57. You said turning clockwise while turning counterclockwise. Now I'm really confused!
The 3rd turn he says clockwise when the driver is really turning counter-clockwise.
good eye I seen that.
Same saw that I was like wtf 🤨
Damm ok not the only one that saw that 😳
You're right i observed the same thing. Sometimes you have to go in the truck and familiarise yourself until you get it right
The driver in the cab is turning counter, but that's wrong, the truck is turning clockwise. The narrator also seems to mix up tractor vs. trailer when he's describing wheels passing into the box.
Simple short n I understood everything that was said 👍🏽
Video: *Parks a huge truck perfectly*
Me: *fails simple reverse test*
Good Job man! That was sweet! Did that like clock work!
I failed my test today bc this parallel got me frustrated!! I passed everything else ugh. Great video i will practice this maneuver
Francisco Aviles. Same here
I'm doing the new 2024 modernized skills test.
Yes I kept watching like he saying one thing while the video is turning opposite!!
@@tinagilliam9822 I knew I wasn’t tripping that had me confused messing up at school
Thats so satisfying to watch
this is Badass I'm 19 and learning how to drive them
Passed my test today 🙌🏻
I don't even drive a truck, but nice video lol
Awesome video i am currently ind cdl school this helps big time.
Isn't there a reference point? Instead of counting 3 seconds it feels like your winging it and hoping for the best.
J Dee what do you mean?
Paul Flurry how was it? Did you do it?
Paul Flurry i have my Road test on tuesday
You count ok. What your truck speed? This change result.
Watch it with the volume down
Thanks again for this video I just got my cdl
Definitely the hardest part for me I’ve failed the parallel park 4 times already.
You have to anticipate what the trailer is going to do and start reacting before it happens.
If you wait until it happens you're to late.
Omg thank you for saying that!
Thank you so much for noticing that! I was thinking the same thing that the video didn't match the narration.
Thank you for the video getting ready to take my road test
20 yrs back we didn't have this particular test
This is very helpful. Thank you for sharing!
Looks more like Steer wheel 2 times counter clockwise, 2 clockwise, 1 counter clockwise, 1 clockwise, and 2 counter clockwise.
for people who need a marker to know when to stop turning look at the first bar of your landing gear until your truck is turned about 60% and that should help
Can tell this guy is old school he speaks in riddles
Please pray for me as im in cdl school and im learning this. I get confuse and frustrate with which way to go with the steering wheel.
I was so frustrated today in class, almost quit smh. I really hope I get this down, got 5 more weeks to get this cdl thing down though
I'm doing training right now but they way my teacher is teaching me is way hard than this lol actually this looks pretty simple and easy too lol
I can only say thing.
The experienced drivers make it look so damn easy.
For the rookies it will take a helluva lot of practice.
In 18 years I have Never used it! Good video though
Wow the best video I've seen 👏🏾
Awesome thanks you guys God bless
The video didn't line up with the instructions. Was a little confusing. But I still learned something. So thanks anyway
You don’t have to hold the steering wheel against the stops take it easy on your equipment
1:00-1:03, the steering wheel is turned left but the steer tire turned to the right.
Why is that??
At this moment, steer tires should turn right so the trailer goes left.
This video is not right where is the reference and lead cone
Thank you
