    Turned out great Sean! Customizing Bugouts is like a hobby within a hobby. I have a couple different g10 scale sets on the way and will be attempting to create a blue battlewash finish with a pair of stock scales. Just added these AWT scales to my list! You have a boat load of bug outs. Zach may have more but Benchmade is his second home. I really like the look of the swap. To make it complete my opinion only would be matching the thumb studs to the body screws. The gold kind of clashes. It makes sense if they are creating little extra areas for the ano to adhere to that it would be more consistent and longer lasting. We did the same thing to steel on the powder coating line for the same reason. Really like the build. Hope you enjoy it as much as you thought you would.

    Big fan of AWT stuff. Wish they would have came out with these a little earlier. Ended up getting RSD scales which I am very very happy with. Quality workmanship and USA made. I'm sure it's the same with AWT only a bit cheaper. Al vs. Ti doesnt matter to me as long as i can benefit from the added rigidity. Almost near perfect to my ideal EDC. My only complaint about the bug out now...i think it's slightly too thick behind the edge. REally nit picking on that and debating some solutions... Anyways I dig this build! Love the color combo. Little bling never hurt no one!

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Richard, thanks so much for watching. Rockscale makes some amazing stuff. I don’t mind the factory scales, but good G10 or some sort of metal (Al or Ti) definitely makes a big difference. It may be a bit of a bit pick, but it would be cool to see a Bugout with a regrind to get it super thin bte, like 6 thousandths. That would be awesome.

    • @antoinedoinell
      @antoinedoinell 5 лет назад

      6 thousandths would be right on the money for me. I had one of my bugout edges convexed by a professional sharpener. It's ugly but boy does it slice well. You don't feel that initial drag when the material is moving past the shoulder of the bevel. Debating sending my other our for full regrind to see the difference in performance. We shall see. Great content. subbed to the channel! cheers

So im thinking I need a Ti and a micarta next!! Holy crap ... 15 bugouts ... you and Zach could open up a shop. I thought I had a problem 😬customs have taken over my accounts now. Hi Sean, After the mods I would consider this Bugout to be a safe queen. Are you planning to do a video with all your various Bugouts??? Have a great day.

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад

      Hi Barry! I plan on carrying this one for sure, I want to confirm (hopefully) that the scales are more durable than their previous recipe.
      I may do a video about my Bugouts. I’ve considered it several times. To be honest I can’t think of a way to do it without coming across as braggadocious. It could be fun and informative to see a bunch of different variants to show what options are out there for both factory and aftermarket configurations. I just don’t want to come off as an arrogant prick, lol.
      Side note: I filmed my Pilot Metropolitan video yesterday. I think it’s the 7th video in line to get uploaded, so expect to see that within the next couple weeks. It was a fun video to make!

    • @barrylevitt1170

      @@GearedTowardGear1 Hi Sean, it depends upon one's perspective, if you are bragging about your Bugout collection or are sharing the various designs for everyone to enjoy. The channel is yours, so produce the videos you want.
      I may have asked this before, but would the Micarta scales provide the most grip on the Bugout???
      I am looking forward to your Pilot Metroplitan review. Have a great day.

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад

      You know Barry, I don’t have micarta scales on any of my Bugouts. Of what I do own, I’d say that G10 scales provide the most grip, but I’d imagine micarta would be equal to or greater than G10 depending on the type of micarta. Thanks for the feedback on the Bugout video topic. Have a great weekend!

    Do metal scales fix the shitty lockup on the bugout?

  • @Motorcyclewindtherapy
    @Motorcyclewindtherapy 4 года назад

    This is late, but nice mod! I just got a bug out (blue/satin) to replace the 940 I TRIED to like. Aluminum scales are just a NO for me after 13 years of carrying a Spyderco knife with FRN scales. I just like the plastic and mine has been abused far more than any knife should and probably if it had Aluminum scales would not have made it 13 years and still be 100% perfect basically. My 940 lasted less than a week in my pocket and I will lose money, but I'll sell it on ebay soon.
    I wanted to go with a 100% American knife as I do my constant carry Leatherman Wave (PST ii before that) I've had for decades. I don't dislike Spyderco at all, just starter to bother me it was made overseas as a ton of their line is...and the warranty on Leatherman and Benchmade is far superior. I USED the Leatherman warranty 2x in 25 years, after major abuse I did...but they didn't charge me and in one case sent me a new Wave!
    I had an order for the olive drab/grey dlc Bugout in with a major online authorized dealer, but it got cancelled...seems inventory is suffering in covid times...so I went with the basic blue/silver which is in stock everywhere. I can't say I'll keep those gaudy blue scales especially after 13 years of the same knife in black FRN and a satin blade... but we shall see. I see some folks selling stock black Bugout scales on ebay if I want em.
    Sorry so long. I don't switch my stuff very often or almost at all. And I like the look of your new knife color wise. I hope it gives you a ton of satisfaction.
