I was offered to be paid for removing a Yelp review once. I said no and added to my review that I was contacted and offered essentially a bribe to remove my review.
If a salon asked me to remove my review for refund I would screen shot, and agree. After getting the money I would repost the review WITH PHOTOS of the interaction
@smanthakavanagh7034 that is actually illegal. If you accepted the money to remove the review then were to do what you suggested you were going to do. There is nothing illegal to negotiate a settlement. But reposting a review would break the confidentiality and non disclosure. Neither side could admit fault and that the parties can only say the dispute was mutually resolved

@@mela5821 sue me 🤷🏼♀️ with no contracts GOODLUCK. If the payment was to remove the original comment, that does not IMPLY you can never post a secondary review- or share the fact that they pay reviewers to remove negative feedback skewing their reviews to the positive side. Those things would have to be explicitly agreed upon..... to which I would just not accept the money and still post additional reviews stating they ASKED me to remove a review for payment. I never said it was illegal to ask or to pay, it's just shady business and I think anyone spending their money in any establishment where they decided to check the reviews shouldn't be lied to and should be presented a fair representation of the consumers experience.!
I just got home from a bad hair color and it’s beyond frustrating. I thought I had found “the one” (LOL) but now I need a new stylist. Ugh. This video made me feel less alone!
Thank you Sam for including my story! Definitely understand about the outside products and not bringing them in, makes sense! I was torn about deleting the review, but the owner said because of covid the salon was already struggling with making money and wouldn't want to hurt the stylist's future income during this crazy time. So I just felt bad :( . From what I was told the stylist was not new and had been doing hair there for many years, so I think it was more a combination of her slacking off, and me not speaking up during the process. Definitely a lesson learned like I said, and the salon I went to, to fix it, did an amazing job!
Thanks for sending it in! Augh, it’s sad that the owner manipulated you like that. MOST salons and stylists are struggling right now, but we’re still giving each client 110% and it’s no excuse to do a shitty job. Soooo shady and manipulative 🙄 And what about clients that are also struggling right now?! Some people wait a long time and have to save up to get their hair done - and after all of that, they’re potentially going to get their hair ruined and (if they don’t speak up) lose out on hundreds of dollars?! Not acceptable on their part, ESPECIALLY if the stylist has years of experience. So glad you shared!
What I can say is that negotiation, even the type you describe is not unheard of and generally not illegal. In fact when you hear of people or companies reaching a settlement (rather than a court judgement) this is much of what it comes down to... one party paying the other to stop accusing (disparaging) them of bad things, either in court or in the public sphere. One side gets money, the other side gets to say they never did anything wrong.
its so different in my country with the hair products. Here in the Dominican Republic pretty much everyone has a "salon bag" full of their shampoos, conditioners and other treatments. Also if a salon doesn't carry an specific line you could just bring your own and they'll use that no problem.
Consultation is so important! I can’t tell you how many young girls book a full highlight which takes a lot less time than a balayage and then they come in and show me multiple pictures of a balayage and not a traditional highlight and then I have to explain why the services are different and most of the time have to reschedule them because I don’t have enough time
Yes! This is why I always stress to our receptionist that people need to have a consultation before making an actual appointment because this has happened to me so many times! Many clients use buzz words to describe what they're getting done (thanks social media 🙄) and then show up and it turns out to be something different!
I was traumatized on several occasions at the salon, to the point where I barely go once a year and trim it myself most of the time. I am 38 and liked my hair done in a salon exactly 3 times throughout my life. No matter how expensive, how much explaination i give and pictures I show, they seem to not understand what I want. The worst was the one who cut my hair to the lenght of my jaw and gave me bangs when I just told her I want to keep it long enought to tie it up for my job and because I have nasty cowlicks in the front which makes short bangs impossible for me to style properly. Basically, my hair was 8inches shorter than I asked, all my gorgeous blonde balayage was gone and I felt the ugliest i ever felt.
When I went to a hair stylist I went to for a hair cut I chatted with the stylist about what colour I wanted I said what brand I used before. She went to the back and showed similar colours that they had, I was same as you set on a specific product and I showed her on my phone the product and she actually ordered it tried it on hair extensions first that I wanted and let's say I'm a regular now! Sometimes you just have to chat show them what you want as well!
I'm 27 and the last time I went to a hairsalon was...when I was 13. I always felt like crying when i left so i just stopped trying at some point. And now that my hair is long and healthy, i'm even more scared of going to someone who is gonna ruin it all. I just ask my mum to trim it every now and then.
Who even looks at Yelp anymore they are extortionists and their site has no credibility. To my point, she went to the salon based on “great reviews” lmao
I had this happen to me 😆 refused to refund me unless I took down my review. They left a student unsupervised and went to lunch and he left bleach in my hair for 4 hours. My hair was fried. I agreed to delete it but posted it as soon as I got my partial refund. I wanted all of it refunded so that wasn’t the agreement in my eyes
Never believe in reviews and Instagram photos 100%, I had amazing experiences in a little salons with no reviews or Instagram and really bad once with top salons , always do research among friends and go first for consideration xx
This happens FAR too often. I just spent $370 and got splotchy foliage with lopsided much lighter pieces on my right side vs left, brassy and zero gray coverage. Obviously my new hairstylist is overcharging for her abilities
Where I live is completely common for the hairstylist to ask the client to bring in their preferred hair products, especially haircolor. To summarize, it's a cultural thing on your part.
It's SO Wrong for her to have deleted that review!!! Maybe this is why her hair is messed up 🤔 they've paid others to do the same.. u need potential clients to know the TRUTH! WOW!!!! Sam literally just said the same thing as I was typing LOL 😆 P.S. that girl needed to learn 1st thing, asap! As soon as she didn't part or brush it, I woulda BEEN gone.. 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️
I avoid going to a salon like some people avoid the dentist. I have insanely long, thick hair, so stylists hate me and make me feel guilty for making an appointment. The funny thing is, I always ask to book extra time because I have so much hair and am willing to pay more for the time, but it doesn't help. I always leave feeling like crap.
Oh me too !! And the few times I’ve gone they ALWAYS have to bring up the fact that i have long, thick curly hair, they make it sound as if I’m a hassle to work with
Actually, last time I had my roots touched up, the brown colour used looked so much better in yellow light (in my bathroom) than it did in natural light. It looked like a golden brown, as oppesed to just a boring brown colour in natural light.
A few years ago I finally got into the habit of having one stylist for cuts (curly specialist) and one stylist for color (lived-in color and vivid specialist) that way I know I’m getting the best results and not asking either professional to stretch outside of their comfort zone/specialty.
@@jennabenna6600 my medium brown virgin hair only at the top got turned orange during an appointment for extensions...I have no idea how or why. I went to a colorist who advised me to go darker but the color didn’t take or faded quick so I’m still orange 😂😂😂
Another hairstylist here! I have a couple of clients who bring their own shampoo bc they don't "trust" the ingredients on our (Schwarzkopf professional) shampoo... I personally don't mind using their own shampoo... do I like it? No, not at all. I know that the products we use are good and it always kinda hurts to use shampoo I don't know anything about / are from a drug store. This is my opinion and I'm curious about other stylists their opinions
My salon horror story happened just last week. I usually do my own hair(cuts, color, etc) because the few times I've gone to salons, they either didn't do AT ALL what I asked for or just flat out ruined my hair. Even though I'm not a professional I've always done a better job myself. Anyway, this time I had used some brown haircolor that turned out basically jet black and color removers didn't budge it. I didn't want to bleach it myself so I figured I'd be 'responsible' and go to a 5-star salon for a color correction. Well, they assigned me to their newest, youngest, fresh-out-of-beauty-school stylist who proceeded to leave bleach in my hair for NINE HOURS. Not exaggerating, she applied it at 11am and didn't rinse it out until 8pm. Needless to say, even though there was olaplex in the bleach my hair was destroyed. Platinum spots, orange spots, and some spots were still brown. She didn't tone it, she just put some "light brown" color on it which turned most of it a dingy orange and didn't even take on some parts so I have several platinum streaks mixed in with the orange. I initially wanted a bob along with the color correction, so she hacked most of it off and it wasn't even at all. By this point, we'd been in the salon for 12 hours and were both exhausted so I didn't even get a really good look at it until I got home. I basically had an orange helmet, it was absolutely fried and hideous. Falling out whenever I ran my fingers through it too. I cried for hours wondering wtf am I going to do with this mess, I couldn't go even out in public looking like this. I know lots of people get overdramatic about their hair but it was BAD. Like, worse than the bleach fails on tiktok bad. I called the salon the next morning and was told they can't give me a refund cause they don't directly employ the stylists, but they'd have their senior colorist take a look at my hair. She said it can be fixed with some toning and coloring so they rebooked me for this friday. Guess who with? The same girl who wrecked my hair to begin with. LMAO NOPE. Nope nope nope. She's my only option unless I want to pay one of the other stylists $70-$100 to fix it. I haven't cancelled the appt yet but I think I'm going to. I'm all about second chances, but I'm scared she's gonna ruin it all over again if I go back. My hair can't take another round of chemicals. I've done two olaplex treatments and several hair masks in the past week and it's finally starting to feel like actual hair again. Seriously thinking of just throwing some Manic Panic on it and wearing hats/wigs for the next few months whenever I have to go somewhere. I honestly thought that by researching salons beforehand and picking the one with the best reviews, it would turn out good. I even brought in a list of every product I'd used on my hair to ensure there wouldn't be any adverse reactions, but I guess that doesn't matter when you get a stylist who thinks it's okay to leave bleach on a client's hair for NINE @#$%ING HOURS. I'm taking this as a sign from the universe that I'm just not meant to go to salons.
2 years ago i had a blunt bob and it started growing out so i went to the hair salon by my house for a simple trim (2 inches off). i sad down and told her what i wanted, which was just 2 inches off. as she was cutting my hair she literally was arguing with her dad on the phone and giving her phone to read her texts and help her send pictures bc she hardly knew how to work her own phone. i was helping her cause it was very strange and i was trying to be helpful. this wouldn’t have been too bad if i didn’t look up when she was done and she ACTUALLY GAVE HER HAIR CUT. she literally replicated the hair that was on her head and transported it to my head. it was very, very choppy layers and way too short and not at all what i asked for. she asked if i wanted to straighten it and i said yes bc i didn’t know it was gonna be $20 extra to get it straightened. IT WASNT EVEN STRAIGHT IT WAS STILL WAVY AND PUFFY AFTER SHE STRAIGHTENED IT. okay so i paid like $50 for this and i cried the whole way home so my mom felt so bad. my mom thinks everything looks good on me and even she thought this was bad. so she took me to another salon and they tried to salvage it, i was still upset though
I’ll be excited if you read my submission one day! I don’t think I added photos to it, but I’ll totally send you some to add to the story. I’ve definitely been through what the first client did with the unsettling feeling throughout the entire appointment ending with a bad result. I asked for a refund the next day and the stylist claimed they had cameras in the studio with audio that will prove that I said I was happy before I left 😞
Yikes! Thats such a weird thing to say. And like who cares? Either you were just saying you liked it then or you changed your mind, either way it's reasonable.
I have a question: is it rude to bring your own comb and hair brush and maybe some hair oil? I don’t mind the salon’s products at all, it’s just that my hair is waist length and bleached and I use a ton of hair oil, also I feel uncomfortable asking the hairstylist to use more oil or applying more from their oil myself, the only thing is that my hair breaks easily when wet so I carry a super wide comb or a special hair brush that is infused with oil. I also bring a silk cloth to dry my hair with. I explained all this to my hairstylist and he seemed curious about it, he was looking at what I’m doing and I said I’m sorry it’s just that my hair breaks easily with other combs and brushes. He didn’t seem to mind.
this reminds me of when i went to a salon 3 years ago to get a balayage. but instead of blonde hair i wanted BRIGHT red hair. and i mean BRIGHT RED like blood red. I wanted it to pop. I did a consultation and i felt like me and the stylist saw eye to eye and she even told me "i know exactly what you mean about bright red" and she even saw my reference photos and then SHE proceeded to show me other reference photos of what i wanted. I felt happy and thus scheduled an appointment....little did i know i would NOT be getting what i wanted. Instead of BRIGHT red i got a dark burgundy color. i was so shocked i didnt know what to say. I paid my bill, left a tip, and never went back. After the balayage started to fade to blonde I purchased red hair dye and dyed my own hair to achieve the look i wanted. It honestly sucks trying to find a hair stylist for my hair, whether it be for color or even for hair trims as i also get the comment "well your gonna have to pay more cuz you have curly hair and its time consuming to work on"...at this point i have learned to cut and bleach and dye my own hair in order to save money. paying $400 for that balayage was a mistake i will never make again
I’m you commented this a year ago but I’ve never heard someone say they will charge more bc of curly hair…. That’s ABSURD! I will not/ never charge someone more because they have curly hair! That’s crazy! As someone w curly hair i don’t want ppl to think it’s a burden bc it’s not!!
That is true you could be using the wrong term. I asked for my daughters hair to be straighten and meant relaxed so they didn't do what I wanted. Why did I say straighten? Because when I was a teen you either got your hair straighten or permed. Meaning it was chemically straight or curly. Today straighten is taken as a flat iron look.so her hair was flatiron and when she wash it it was back is a 3C and we mad.
@@woodswitchprints that timing is wild. I literally just got home. She did a great job, they look great. I think I like them. But I'm in the shocked phase over having a big change 😂

I went to a salon asked for bangs and I should’ve known it was a red flag when she asked me if I was “this tan all year round” as if she had never seen a POC before with thick hair. I guess she’s only used to cutting thin haired white people because she took too much hair for my bangs and I ended up looking like I had a mullet absolutely terrible.
if you were getting color that question would make sense to make sure that the color matches but if you were getting a hair cut that’s a weird question
Ive recently decided to only go to salons for trims in the future. 9/10 bad experiences and the worst part is I end up paying like theyre doing Gods work. Ive had maybe one good experience in my entire life. These chicks will mess up your hair worse than you can do yourself at home. I went to a salon last week asking for mid brown and got black. The hairdresser than told me that it looks dark because of the light and that it will wash out. Its not going to wash out 17 shades. I can accidentally dye my hair black at home for 5 bucks. Ill just learn how to do everything myself.
Sometimes I think about cosmetology school because I have yet to figure out what I want to do but I don’t know if my social anxiety and introverted self could handle it. I have enough trouble making conversation when I’m the one in the chair. Plus I’m less social when I’m focused.
I’m a newer hairdresser and an introvert and it’s crazy how good I’ve gotten at small talk and just knowing how to have a conversation with people I don’t know at all. 😂 And I have social anxiety. So I’d just encourage you to go for it! It’s definitely a step outside of my comfort zone but so so worth it.
I’m the exact same way, trust me. And that was something I was worried about too. But as you get more experience and gain more confidence, it’ll come naturally and the social anxiety will subside.
@@oliviagiordano5987 that’s really encouraging to hear! I always assume people working with the public so much are just born With great social skills. Anxiety can feel isolating in that way, like you’re the only one. I guess I’ll never develop my social skills if I hide forever :) thanks!
@@styledbysamvay thank you! That makes me feel a lot better. Once you start getting really good at what you enjoy doing, it can probably get you out of your own head. The anticipation and constant worrying about what-ifs are probably the most challenging feelings to overcome when starting something new.
Interesting, most dominican hair salons in NYC don't care if u bring your own products, if anything they like it so that they take note to recommend to get it for the salon if it's really good.
Can’t wait to see more videos like this! Would love if you have the chance to answer this question... I have my hair toned to a dark, ashy blonde colour very similar to yours. It was previously bleached and the toner fades quickly. My hairstylist says the colour can only be achieved through toner and not dye to make it more permanent. Is this true? I love the colour but it doesn’t stay that way for long at all xx
Yes, that’s true. Ashy tones are really hard to maintain and they will ALWAYS wash out/ fade/ get brassy, which is what makes it really high maintenance.
This just happened to me. I searched for the best specialized dimensional blonding salon. Went home with great clips highlights to the scalp with banding. Whole point was to match me to my rooted extensions, I was close before I went. Now my hair is 11 colors. 😩
Soo im planning to diy some high lights onto my hair. I’ve dyed my hair a lot in the past and it’s never melted off or looked horrible, so I think I can manage but what I’m most afraid of is the damage that bleach can cause. Do you have any suggestions for shampoo, treatments or conditioners to keep my hair soft and healthy?
Hey. As a uk hairdresser. This video made me so happy and sad. But it’s real life. You opinion what you saying I said before you said it. Clients that think they know what they are doing. Very frustrating…….
Watching bad salon youtube vids right now to make myself feel better i went to a salon yesterday and they gave me the wrong colors (light brown and green) instead of sky blue and cotton candy pink. They didnt even wash the dye out well so its super uncomfortable on my hair rn. I want a refund since it was $300 but ik i probably wont get one haha
If your hair is left orange/copper/gold, the only option is to tone it a little darker or lighten it more to get out of that orange stage. But if you’re spending the money at a salon in the first place, I don’t think it’s worth the risk of messing it up at home. I would just look for a better salon that specializes in color. You might have to travel an hour or two out of your area for it, depending on where you live.
I ended up toning my hair darker to ensure that there wasn’t any orange/copper. Keep in mind I also didn’t want to go lighter so I didn’t mind having the darker hair.
Hi. I’m middle eastern and our hair has that problem. Over here we add a tiny dot of green (and sometimes blue as well) dye to cancel out the copper or orange we get in our hair when lightened. Check out Guy Tangs videos. He talks about it alot.
I wanted more highlights and lows highs and my hair stylist some how dyed all my hair blue black........ I was so upset, and she told me I looked like morticia adams......my hair was virgin hair with a few lights before....I have been color remover....but she definitely painted my existing highlights with blue black.
Hey girl I need some help!! Since the hair salons are closed over here 😭 I got my hair done I would say 2 months ago, and it’s like a highlighted balayage. I feel like it’s too blonde for me I would love to tone it down to a toffee/brown color and bring in the darker tones. I would say the front pieces of my hair are a level 8(neutral blonde) and the bottom is like a 7(warmer blonde) I can use the redken products I just need help on what colors I should get please help anyone !!💜💜
Hey girl, I’ve been binge watching a bunch of your videos I’m thinking of starting a cosmetology school, I’m a bit hesitant I’m scared that I’ll end up not liking but everytime I end up thinking maybe I should just do something else I end up coming back to this option the only thing that scares me is I’ll be in debt forever and not making good enough money to get by . What do you think I should do ? Look for something else or just go for it? This school also offers a eyelash extension course so I really feel like that’s a plus
You have two options: don’t go and always wonder “what if” and potentially waste more time and money trying something else - or just go for it. You’ll either love it and have a career that makes you fulfilled or you won’t, but then at least you’ll know... and you’ll also have an extra skill under your belt, which is never a bad thing.
I get highlights with my stylist here in AZ. The girl’s highlights are the less great version of how I have my hair, but I also pay my stylist $80 after tip. For them to charge you the $250 is ridiculous.
I have a salon in AZ $80 after tip is unusually cheap for a highlight. Unless it’s only a few foils. $250 for partial highlight/base color/haircut is pretty standard around here.
Not questioning your work or your knowledge as I am in no way hairstylist or have more than basic every day knowledge about it but I was always tild (by multiple hairstylist) thar roots always develop faster because of the heat of the scalp...so I'm taken by surprise to you saying opposite...are there different options about it or it's just a preference of the stylist?
Hi Sam, regarding taking your own products in - if you have, for example, an itchy scalp and you've found one specific shampoo which you know doesn't irritate it, would that be as big a "no" as taking in colour? This isn't something I would do, I'm just more curious than anything.
I think it depends on the salon and the stylist. But if you’re just going in for a haircut (not color or any kind of service that requires rinsing out product), you can always ask the stylist if it’s ok for you to wash it yourself at home first and just come in with wet hair.
Hey Sam! I have a yellow skin undertone and plan to get a balayage, do you have any suggestions on what tone/shade to get so I wouldn't look washed out? I don't have a cosmetology background so apologies for my terms 🤣
Hi! Typically an ashier/silver tone is most complimentary - but I would trust your stylist’s advice, because consultations are done best in person. Since I’m not seeing what you look like in person, I can’t say for sure.
I’m so sad because I think I need to break up with my hair stylist . She one of the coolest nicest people I know and I would like to pursue a friendship outside of the salon with her which makes it hard . But the truth is I feel the need to stop going to her for the time being due to a few reasons. I try to have a 70s shag/curtain bangs style with layers and I dye my hair different colors between natural and fun shades . When I first moved to my area I went a woman who did my bangs just how I wanted but she unfortunately retired . The lady I go to now just can’t seem to get the style of bang cut down and the colors lately have been in the ballpark of what I want but not quite close enough (she will show me the color in the bowl and ask me if she can make any changes and i ask for a little lighter or a little brighter or a little more of a certain shade and she is happy to remix it but even after that the color is not quite there but I feel like I can’t just keep asking her to adjust it) whenever I dyed my own hair in the past I always matched the exact shade that I wanted (if I go back to dyeing myself I won’t use box dye I promise) lately I also will end up having my roots coming in and my ends in need of a trim for too long because of work schedule or not having the funds at the time to spend on an appointment. With me being in college and saving up for other expenses I think I need to find someone new to just do my bangs and trims and then I can dye my own hair. I’m so nervous to leave her and I have her on social media so she will definitely see the way my hair changes. How do I ensure her that it’s nothing personal and that I need to stop going to her to save money , have regular upkeep and have the cut I want ?
She’s a professional and has to accept that clients don’t always stay with you forever, it’s part of the biz. You’re not the first and you won’t be the last…
Hey Sam! I was on Instagram and saw a post about hairstylists who run late. Some people say that their stylists were behind schedule up to an hour or more😔 They were saying they should give the following customer a discount. What are your thoughts?
Running 10-15 minutes behind is totally fine, it happens. But over an hour?? If it’s happening regularly, it sounds like the stylist needs to change how they’re scheduling their clients or hire an assistant. I don’t think a discount solves the problem. Instead, if they know they’re likely going to be more than 15 minutes behind, they can call the client and give them the option to either wait, come back later, or reschedule. But ultimately they need to find a solution ASAP so it doesn’t happen again.
@@styledbysamvay Definitely agree. Unfortunately there's some stylists that don't care. I went to a new stylist a couple months ago and the stylist was so friendly and punctual. She finished with my haircut but felt like it still needed a few touches and she kept on working on it eventhough her next client was there. It was only about 5 extra minutes but it felt so nice not to be rushed out of there lol
Being a good hair stylist takes experience, skills and TALENT. I hate when stylist aren't good, because you're paying them to ruin your hair. Please if you aren't good at cutting, coloring and/or styling hair, choose a different profession.
The rating of the salon is meaningless. You need to research the stylist that’s actually going to be doing your hair. If you walk into (or call) a 5 star salon and don’t ask for a specific stylist, guess what? You’re a walk-in. And do you know who gets “walk ins?” That’s right, the new stylists, who aren’t booked. Not saying they can’t do hair, but don’t expect the level of talent and knowledge that a seasoned colorist brings to the table. Do expect to be there all day tho!
First off why in the hell are these girls paying for what they didnt ask for and tipping at that..as a hairstylist u KNOW when u fuck up and a lot of them pressure u into paying which is fucked up and greedy..if a client is not happy u do everything in ur power to fix it and if u know u fucked up why would u want to ruin someone experience and make them pay..word of advice if ur not signing any papers before u start sue their ass period..that my time and hard work bs is all talk because if that really mattered they would have paid attention in the first place
Okay stylist here and all I can see is red flags from the client in the first story. Like girl pump the breaks, take a step back and be the client. Not saying her stylist wasn’t in the wrong either (sounds like she was fresh out of school to me) But still just from hearing the story would not make me want to do her hair
I totally get what you’re saying. It is frustrating when a client comes in and starts telling you what to do or makes suggestions as far as application. And I completelyyyy agree that the stylist does sound very new or just inexperienced and nervous. The whole deleting the review in exchange for a refund though is where the salon/stylist totally lost me.
Sam Vay Yes the reviews part is definitely sketchy. But the cosmo school I went to would also delete bad reviews of the school so people would still go through them for their license 😅
Hi! I actually had submitted the first story (ty Sam for including it!!) and I'm not sure how I didn't take a step back considering I said nothing to her while she did my hair lol? I only told her what I wanted to do when I came in, which is that I wanted to darken my roots and bring that dark color down but still leave out lighter pieces. The only other time I spoke to her during the process was when she asked if I wanted to add in lighter pieces through a balayage or highlight after washing/drying out that first color.
@@alexeis3532 I think it shows in the question you asked before the horror story but there is also the fact that you used technical words (Sam had to explain and I'm glad she did because i was lost) and kind of told her what to do, to be fair (and it seems like it would have been the thing to do but maybe she wasn't experienced enough).
I feel like this entire video was you trying to stick up for these shitty stylists. These people had bad experiences, maybe they're just not a good stylist. Why can't you just leave it at that. And in both cases, these were very knowledgable consumers who did their part and you're telling them they should have done more (going for the consultations, excess research)
How was I defending the stylist?? I felt it was quite the opposite, actually. The whole point of the video was to share these experiences and then also share what we can learn from them - and mainly, how these situations can be avoided in the future. Yeah, the stylists are 100% to blame in both scenarios, no doubt there. The reality is that there are shitty stylists... so how can clients spot the red flags and avoid getting in those situations and how can they find a better stylist moving forward? And the only solution is to go in for consultations first and do thorough research when looking for a stylist. It’s obvious the stylists didn’t do a good job. Me just pointing out the obvious would be totally useless, don’t you think?

If the payment was to remove the original comment, that does not IMPLY you can never post a secondary review- or share the fact that they pay reviewers to remove negative feedback skewing their reviews to the positive side. Those things would have to be explicitly agreed upon..... to which I would just not accept the money and still post additional reviews stating they ASKED me to remove a review for payment.
I never said it was illegal to ask or to pay, it's just shady business and I think anyone spending their money in any establishment where they decided to check the reviews shouldn't be lied to and should be presented a fair representation of the consumers experience.!
i dont work as a hair stylist/ nor do I ever plan to but still watching coz its sooo entertaining.
Same! I just love watching
SAME!! 😁🥰
You took the words out of my mouth I brought products to my Dominican hair stylist all the time like hair treatments it’s normal honestly
Basically, my hair was 8inches shorter than I asked, all my gorgeous blonde balayage was gone and I felt the ugliest i ever felt.
same here, traumatized many times and i decided i will no longer go to the salon. i always have come back crying and heartbroken
I completely understand that, but I’m sorry to hear it! :( I hope one day you can find a stylist you trust!!
I'm sorry but practically bribing someone with a refund to get rid of a negative review leaves a yicky taste in my mouth imo
Couldn’t agree more!! Sketchyyyyyy!
I would have taken the refund then made a new account to write another review on lol. it's not fair to future customers to not have accurate reviews
That’s not a bribe. That is settling a dispute.
i wouldve got the refund canceled my card and then put the same review up wth😂
You actually can’t do that. That is definitely against the law. She agreed to pay.
WOW!!!! Sam literally just said the same thing as I was typing LOL 😆
P.S. that girl needed to learn 1st thing, asap!
And the few times I’ve gone they ALWAYS have to bring up the fact that i have long, thick curly hair, they make it sound as if I’m a hassle to work with
I’ve had this too. My hair isn’t long but it’s thick. I had a girl complain about having to mix up more color cause of it. I felt so embarrassed
The same, only I had long curly hair (half my back).
Actually, last time I had my roots touched up, the brown colour used looked so much better in yellow light (in my bathroom) than it did in natural light. It looked like a golden brown, as oppesed to just a boring brown colour in natural light.
When the client knows more about the proper application of product than the “professional” that’s embarrassing.
A few years ago I finally got into the habit of having one stylist for cuts (curly specialist) and one stylist for color (lived-in color and vivid specialist) that way I know I’m getting the best results and not asking either professional to stretch outside of their comfort zone/specialty.
So glad you are doing sit down videos!! I love these! I’ve been working so much I missed you for a few weeks!! 💕💕💕
oh wow some of these were roughhhh 😅😅 i hope everyone in this videos hair has made a full recovery 💗💗
I recently had a hair horror story. I’ve been wearing headbands and hats for months, let me get some confidence and email you 😂😂
Ugh same, she basically gave me a bowl cut so I can’t even put it up 😭
@@jennabenna6600 my medium brown virgin hair only at the top got turned orange during an appointment for extensions...I have no idea how or why.
I really likes this Sam! I’m excited to see more! 💜
Refund 'if' you remove the review...? Nope, you spent your time and damaged your hair... Not a fair exchange really and that seems shady as hell
Btw, most security cameras don't have audio, and even if they did, it's illegal in most states to record conversations.
just got back from some much needed time in nature and was so glad to see your name pop up when I got home!!!!

This is why I’m scared to go into a full service salon! 😅

Thank you! :)
I love watching your videos. Imma nail tech but love all the beauty industry. You are just so positive and helpful.
On Facebook you can ask for recommendations from friends and family or the public instead of reading reviews
And yeah it’s okay to be focused and not worry about talking as much. People get it. :)
I’m the exact same way, trust me. And that was something I was worried about too. But as you get more experience and gain more confidence, it’ll come naturally and the social anxiety will subside.

@@styledbysamvay thank you so so much for taking the time to reply!

The best way to find a great stylist is to ask someone who has great hair where they go.
Watching bad salon youtube vids right now to make myself feel better
i went to a salon yesterday and they gave me the wrong colors (light brown and green) instead of sky blue and cotton candy pink. They didnt even wash the dye out well so its super uncomfortable on my hair rn. I want a refund since it was $300 but ik i probably wont get one haha
I don’t think I’ve been this early before! Love your videos Sam!

Salons I go to can't seem to get the orange tone or copper tones out of my hair after they lighten it. Can you tell me what I can do to fix it myself?
Not to mention you wouldn’t have any of the SDS for the products if anything went wrong
Hey girl I need some help!! Since the hair salons are closed over here 😭 I got my hair done I would say 2 months ago, and it’s like a highlighted balayage. I feel like it’s too blonde for me I would love to tone it down to a toffee/brown color and bring in the darker tones.
Wow I wish it was that cheap in California 😅
I have a salon in AZ $80 after tip is unusually cheap for a highlight. Unless it’s only a few foils. $250 for partial highlight/base color/haircut is pretty standard around here.
@@azhaircountess9798 DANG. Yeah my stylist def gives me a discount. I get a full head of foils
That’s true when you’re going lighter. But when going darker, it’s the opposite. :)
@@styledbysamvay tnx for replying 😊 now I know a bit more 😁
I've heard that you do need to apply to ends first, because the heat from your scalp makes your roots lighten faster?
They were going darker. So opposite.
Correct, when you’re going lighter. But when you’re going darker, it’s the opposite. :)
I went to get bob braids, they ruuuiiineeddd ittt, and I paid a lot of money, I decided never to go back to them
It really gets me mad when I feel the tools aren't cleaned. Then the stylist reused the comes on someone else.😢
@@styledbysamvay Thank you for responding. That makes perfect sense - I was just curious, that was all! I hope you're having a good day :)

I have just had a bad bad experience 😢 I thought it was a good place due to reviews and instragram etc. Yes I've been crying since it happend
When it comes to color, consultation should be mandatory🤓
Being a good hair stylist takes experience, skills and TALENT. I hate when stylist aren't good, because you're paying them to ruin your hair. Please if you aren't good at cutting, coloring and/or styling hair, choose a different profession.
Hey could you do your favorite Haircare products pleaseeeee!!!❤️
@6:37 4his is the exact same shit im going through right now withthe exact dane reason of keaving my faviurite stylist!
Could you make a video about the process of going lighter?
ruclips.net/video/1z1AJBG2Pc4/видео.html
I can do an updated version too though!
18:52 THAT part
Love your videos! I’m also a hairstylist (10 years.)
Thank you :)
Where is the puppy video? :)
I’m near Philly do you have a Stylist you recommend?
I
First off why in the hell are these girls paying for what they didnt ask for and tipping at that..as a hairstylist u KNOW when u fuck up and a lot of them pressure u into paying which is fucked up and greedy..if a client is not happy u do everything in ur power to fix it and if u know u fucked up why would u want to ruin someone experience and make them pay..word of advice if ur not signing any papers before u start sue their ass period..that my time and hard work bs is all talk because if that really mattered they would have paid attention in the first place
I want to submit a story to you with pictures, it’s BAD - how can I send it to you!?
To the email address that's mentioned twice in the video and is in the description ;)
I wonder if any of the stylist that are responsible for these mess ups have ever watched your videos 🤔😂
Is she still talking stories? I have a “horror” story and I have no idea if I was the asshole. If I was that’s fine, but I really want to know
How am I this early
Sweatshirt deets please!!!
Zara :)
Okay stylist here and all I can see is red flags from the client in the first story. Like girl pump the breaks, take a step back and be the client. Not saying her stylist wasn’t in the wrong either (sounds like she was fresh out of school to me) But still just from hearing the story would not make me want to do her hair
Lol what? How is the client in the wrong??
Wtf? She literally talked about how these stylists did everything wrong lol.
