The Vegas area is such a nice place...lived there for most of 95' and the memories are wonderful. Rented an apartment across from Highlands and within easy walk to old town. Had no idea until then that Red Dawn was filmed there. Much love for Las Vegas, New Mexico!
Las Vegas, I thought, had 3 cultures. But, it has several more. It is like living in a foreign nation. The old Spanish Patron culture. The Anglo merchant/banker class. The retired anglos. The Professor/Student class. The angry divorced/single women from out of state who have made themselves "protectors" of the indigenous and Patron culture (as if they needed protection), the new Spanish/American class of Americanized folk, the tourist class. The ranches and cowboy class.
Yes, you are right. Las Vegas does have Sonic and McDonald's, I was referring to the major full formal dining restaurants like OutBack, Chili's, Appleby's, and so on. Different kind of food and setting to Taco Bell.
@benboothe I appreciate your enthusiasm, and there are indeed some great local-style restaurants here, but where did you get the idea there are no national chains? You mean not counting fast food restaurants? Because we have lots of those. Every town does.
I remember as a kid being confused by the 2 Los Vegas' I love Tom Mix' Cord. One of the house looked FL Wright inspired. A Prarie House. Favorited. Right -at 8:30
sorry - didn't see this message til just now (May 8) Anyhow, interesting list of interests you've got there (on your channel). I assume that you spend your time in Hollywood depositing big checks from your screenplays, etc.
Fair enough question. I don't think anyone said it was a good thing. I think I used the word "interesting" or "fascinating." Maybe interesting that it once was and isn't any more - not exactly, anyhow. By the way, whose lap are you dancing on top of? ka-boom!
Idk how people say it's for old people but this is my home town and I love it it's just so beautiful and still is everyone is so nice

The best town to live in now and then.

Also seen in the Parade scene in "Ezy Rider". I stopped there on tour one time and hung around the spooky Castaneda Hotel.
One of the big houses shown is across the street from my Grandparents House!
Perhaps the most genuinely "American" town I've ever known about.

mild - not deserty hot like Albuquerque etc. High mountain elevation, more like Santa Fe. You can find actual climate figures on the web...
