I am from London, England and enjoyed this short film about Santa Fe and I love the history of New Mexico. One day I'm coming to visit - soak it all up and realise my dream.
I am from Spain and i can't wait to visit this state. I mean, everybody that comes to the US for the holidays go to Florida, New York, California... But this state has so much beauty, cultural and historic sites it's worth coming to.
Never been more proud of my hometown. I love the history, the culture, and the community. Unfortunately, this video seems to only show the 'cutesy' side of Santa Fe: the side meant for tourists. There are so many places that I love and feel are a vital part of Santa Fe that aren't even mentioned here.
+marvel_lily Care to elaborate? I'm from New Orleans so i completely understand that what makes a special city special cannot be found at the top tourist attractions. I've been to Santa Fe once and would like to stay for a couple days on my way to Arizona later this month. I'd really appreciate some ideas for food and fun from a local. Thanks!
+Mindy Montague So sorry I didn't get to this sooner! I hope I didn't miss you - even though this place is kinda touristy, the Plaza Cafe is a MUST. for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even a slice of pie. if you happen to be there on a saturday or a tuesday, definitely go to the farmers market (and get some fresh apple cider ;) ) also, for coffee and for snacks go to Downtown Subscriptions just off of Canyon Road. they do the BEST chai lattes you will ever taste. if you want any more suggestions just ask!
Marvel lily, it does suck that they got rid of flying star but, the new movie theater is a lot better than Regal 14, also Second street Bruwery is there so it kind of makes up for it.

There is plenty to do in Northern NM. if your idea of "more to offer" is retail stores and chain restaurants , then move to Albuquerque or some bigger city out of state. If you can't see what Northern NM has to offer, then you are either young or blind.
I live on the east coast, and I have visited northern New Mexico several times, and never get tired of it. I don't live there. That's a different experience. But as a place to visit, it's terrific.
Santa Fe home to the Georgia O' Kiefe museum and the miraculous staircase at Loretto Chaple. Oldest church in the USA at San Miguel. Lots of celebrations on the plaza, Santa Fe fiesta, burning of Zozbra and Las posadas at Christmas.
I'm sure Santa Fe is great for outsiders and rich tourists. But in Albuquerque and elsewhere in the state, Santa Fe has this reputation of being for rich white retirees who like to 'experiene' Native American and Hispanic culture. This video does an excellent job of exemplifying that.
We our sick of the rich white people. Buying are home,s and puting native people out in the streets. We wise would leave for good. Tax,s are so high that we natives and old people our homeless.

@@mrq1701 You really cannot blame low-income people whose property taxes keep going up because their neighborhoods get higher and higher home appraisals. After a while they can no longer afford to live where they were long established. That gentrification happens all the time.

My first turn off in this video, the white women in ponchos and "cowboy" hats shopping at the flea. Yuck.
Having lived in Santa Fe off--and now living not too far from there--there is substantially more to Santa Fe than the Plaza. Yes, you should see it. Remember, Santa Fe is both the oldest AND highest capital city in the country. Still, there is much to do in Santa Fe County. Lots of old adobe homes and ruins, spectacular red rock cliffs in the country, Indian casinos just north of town, pueblos throughout the vicinity, the Santa Fe Opera... Nambe Falls is just a 20-minute drive north of the city, still in the county. Having lived in Nambe, it's a gorgeous (and haunted) area. It's also on the High Road to Taos. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed your trip. As the previous poster mentioned, the Anglo "cowboys" are not authentic to the area.
I'm a native of Santa Fe and honestly the people who have moved there from the west and east coasts have ruined Santa Fe. The historic beauty and unique culture have been destroyed and changed by their progressive philosophies. They have tried to corner the market with the native American and Hispanic arts and in doing so have ruined the market for the local artist. Native Santa Feans can no longer afford to live there because it has become a little San Francisco. A place never remains unique when you chose to move there and bring the outside views you were moving away from.

I think people that live in an amazing place always take it for granted because they've been there so long. When you go somewhere that has less to offer is when home starts looking more special. For the many times I spent several weeks in NM,I never really felt unsafe even when traveling by myself. I would now.
Wow i was expecting more from this video. I saw the tourist sights but that was about it. My family is from way northern nm. I've been in SF since i was 8 or 9 years old and I'm now 37 and there's more to Sf than food and art. Just stop and ask the locals that were raise here. They'll point you in the right direction. Great tourist attraction vid tho. P.s. the best northern nm restaurants are not on the plaza. Just fyi!
Close your eyes, come with me, where it’s clear and green and pretty. And they went and made a city out of clay. The moment that you get there, folks will walk right up and say: welcome home son! Welcome home to Santa Fe! PLANTIN’ crops SPILTTIN’ rails. Swapping tales around the fire, except for Sunday when you lie around all day.
I used to drive a Chevy, but now I drive a Ford. I used to have a girlfriend, but now I'm just plain bored because I lost my little lady, down around Santa Fe, oh I just got to find a woman to take this lonesome feeling away.
Great vid, makes me wish I was a rich white culture apropriating woman so I can fit-in! ...seriously tho, we're (my wife who happens to be black, and my white straight atheist self) interested in possibly moving near Pecos or down in Sandia/Tej area & would love to know what they are really like. Pls drop us some links, locals! & thx in advance!
Anyone planning to visit this Southwest gem should read Willa Cather's "Death Comes for the Archbishop" to learn about its historical depth. It is much more than just trinkets and coffee bars for the well-to-do. BTW, I find it sickening how this video shows the indigenous population serving white tourists (with a subservient big smile).
The elected officials not governing our city is creating chaos for the people visiting and people living in Santa Fe. The loud cars that take over our city day and night and the speeding cars and running red lights is an embarrassment to this city and the tax payers. There is no police presence to control any of this. In short, Santa Fe is going in the wrong direction. The officials are more interested with making the rail and art district another Disney park and not fixing problems at hand. I moved to Santa Fe over 14 years ago and love it, but the last few years of increased noise from the modified car mufflers have taken over the sound scape and is causing noise pollution that's unacceptable for most cities. My family and friends will no longer visit due to lack of sleep either in hotel rooms or at my place due to the noise. There are laws in place to curb the illegal cars but it's not being enforced. This is unfair and I don't know to approach it. I have contacted the governor's office and never received a reply, same with the mayor. Do our elected officials ever step outside to see what's going on in this city? This has been going on for a long time and there's been more than ample time to fix this.
Why is it alway YT people who are telling about history or culture of people that are not YT? You mean nobody else could really tell us about these cultures besides them? SMH
Many of the parents in Santa Fe ignore traffic laws with their kids. Many of these parents are civil servants. Youth in New Mexico deserve to see law-abiding, ethical and conscientious civil servants in their capitals. Their future depends on it. What do you think? Should traffic fines be doubled in capital cities? Imagine law-abiding streets in Santa Fe!!!

dude, i see the beautiful Akha tribal headdress to the left at 1:16
Wow i was expecting more from this video. Just fyi!
Dwi is a right of passage
I'm coming Santa Fe...
👍
oldest capital in us
They aren’t mud houses, there adobe houses
mystery keven they are stucco. Hardly an Adobe building in Santa Fe
Beautiful area but I hate how dusty it is. Shoes are constantly dirty.
Don’t forget MeowWolf!
I used to drive a Chevy, but now I drive a Ford. I used to have a girlfriend, but now I'm just plain bored because I lost my little lady, down around Santa Fe, oh I just got to find a woman to take this lonesome feeling away.
Bill C and . Miley??
Wait hold on, there is a NEW Mexico??!!?!?!
louis43233 someone skipped 4th grade history
:D
@@lonewanderer4248 Is it taught anymore?
Wwwwwwoooooowwwwww. Lol.
@@lonewanderer4248 That's a line from an old Simpsons episode, said by Mr. Burns.
And there’s gringos there too
Great vid, makes me wish I was a rich white culture apropriating woman so I can fit-in!
...seriously tho, we're (my wife who happens to be black, and my white straight atheist self) interested in possibly moving near Pecos or down in Sandia/Tej area & would love to know what they are really like. Pls drop us some links, locals! & thx in advance!
🙄
Anyone planning to visit this Southwest gem should read Willa Cather's "Death Comes for the Archbishop" to learn about its historical depth. It is much more than just trinkets and coffee bars for the well-to-do. BTW, I find it sickening how this video shows the indigenous population serving white tourists (with a subservient big smile).
Hey, this is only 6 minutes and 27 seconds! Clickbait!
New Mexico is beautiful and I'm proud that I am a resident.

Why is it alway YT people who are telling about history or culture of people that are not YT? You mean nobody else could really tell us about these cultures besides them? SMH
I didn't know that new Mexico existed
Flee market gone. It's another casino. One of many. If you just love throwing your money away
Well its not gone just in a different location. I saw it near the buffalo thunder resort.
@@bootsontheground1388 that's nice to know. Sure looks nice. Never visited it. Now don't live there. 😢
It's growing at the new location
BBQ?? T?
New Mexicans are very very friendly
Many of the parents in Santa Fe ignore traffic laws with their kids. Many of these parents are civil servants. Youth in New Mexico deserve to see law-abiding, ethical and conscientious civil servants in their capitals. Their future depends on it. What do you think? Should traffic fines be doubled in capital cities? Imagine law-abiding streets in Santa Fe!!!
