- "A Good Life" is a documentary told by the Cowboys and Cowgirls of Northeastern NM. From their stories you will come to know the rich cultural heritage and history of this ranching community. Learn how a flood decimated what was once one of the biggest livestock centers in the southwest US. Hear the stories of George McJunkin, and how his discovery of the Folsom Point was one of the biggest Archaeological finds in history. Listen to first hand accounts of the 1930's dustbowl that caused many to lose their livestock and homesteads. Back in the time of Billy the Kid and gangs like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, there was Black Jack Ketchum. Black Jack was an outlaw of the Old West that was seized for train robbery and sentenced to death by hanging. Find out why people were shocked at the hanging when the trap door was opened. Learn the traditions and changes in current ranchers lives and the purpose to their hard days work. Take a look at some of the best pencil art this World has to offer and why Dino Cornay's southwest realism is so special. Listen to the sounds of silence; view the surreal landscapes, smell the unpolluted fresh air, touch the ground and feel the powerful force of nature.

Born on Sandia base... call Silver City New Mexico home... because the neighbors are these type people... when we moved there in 86.. my neighbor came and asked for a little help.. he was 98.. his younger brother was up on a ladder trying to replace drain pipes along the second floor roof.. he was 89.. a youngster..Con Henry, my neighbor retired from 3 jobs including the railroad, and worked part time at the lumber yard in town.. he died of a heart attack at 99.. working at the lumber yard.. RIP brother... he taught us what neighbors do.. this turned our lives around.. Blessings on he and his family forever ❤
thanks for sharing.. great video.. shared in my Pinterest pages

I love getting to talk with the older generation. There's so much to learn from them.
You BET because they've lived through it...good or bad. Thanks to God.
Definitely miss “Papo” Carlos Cornay. The true definition of a cowboy. Definitely one of the greatest men I’ve ever met. I had the privilege to be adopted into the Cornay family. I miss sitting there with Papo during hunting season and during the summer listening to stories you could never imagine. Dino is one of those great men who now drives on the legacy. I hope all these stories survive.
It’s a coincidence I found your channel my family was from Magdelina New Mexico and I have 150 years of Family history in that town all the stories I’ve heard the pictures I have remind me of all this. The farms my family owned in the mines they worked from sunrise to sunset. I wish it could’ve raised my kids this way love your channel I’ll be watching it from now on.
I have had the opportunity to spend time all over New Mexico. It is all very special, but that area of Northeastern New Mexico from Tucumcari to Raton to Taos may very well be my favorite. There is just something compelling about it.
Sorry I forgot to thank you for the wonderful story about our past. I hope there are more to come. This was wonderful.
A cowboys life is a hard life but as it says here ,it's a great job if you like animals and nature cause you get a lot of it. I walter buck loved working as a ranch hand most of my life and I thank God for the great blessing of my life
The Artist sketches absolutely blew me away! They look like ACTUAL PHOTOGRAPHS. INCREDIBLE WORKS!
These are priceless people and stories. Thank you!!!
A way of life very few are blessed to have lived this way.,🌹
My husband and I watched this video together, he is a Berry. I learned a lot about Folsom and he was amazed to see all the people in the video. He of course knows all of them. Such a rich history there. We will be watching for more from you, you are very talented.
That last line was the best. It will indeed give you some religion. Well said.
I love this. Real hardworking, decent, moral people. I admire them and their commitment to a pure way of life💞
Beautiful job on this project!! I’ve hunted on the Click ranch for 30 years or so and appreciate the beauty and passion of this land, your
Film shows your love for it! Thank you!
Joe Clark, California
Happiness is a warm gun, yes it is !!
Thank you from NW NM. Reminds me just why I still work Grandpa’s homestead. I’m glad to see these peoples stories. Thank you, and God Bless.
God bless ole Sally
That’s what you could call good all the way to the core
You can learn about yourself in a situation like that
When you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life. I think these folks love what they do and give it their all because it's who they are.
Or its all they know and just get good at it
I was born and raised in Clayton and my Grandfather had a big ranch in San Jon NM I cowboy on for a long time, I loved the video thank you
You’re name sounds Familiar. I lived in and around Clayton for 18 yrs off and on. I’m a tree surgeon and a carpenter. I also drove truck At harvest time for some of the farmers in the Texline area and Delhart. Drove for Poole Chemical for a while. A lot of these folks in the documentary I know. This was interesting!!!
I wonder if you are any relation to Doyle & Thelma Price that owned the Gladstone Mercantile store & had a ranch near there ?
I miss Bess Isaacs. She was always so nice to my family ! On our 1 trip a month to town, we always visited the hardware store, even if we didn't need anything.
Dino's artwork is absolutely amazing! I would LOVE to have one of his pieces, especially one of the cowboy/horse drawings...Fantastic!
I agree. I love that type of art --- pencil, pen and ink, charcoal. And, his is SO realistic, so accurate. This guy is a treasure.
My Dad had a print of that man reading a Bible and he knew the artist.
If it wasn't for ranches we wouldn't have food on our tables my hats off for all farmers everywhere
AMEN!
You don't know any farmers. Farmers are the biggest group of scammers today. Not like the old days.
Love seeing a little slice of home. Really nice job setting up the story and the spirit of the area.
This was fantastic. It got me through that *looong* last half-hour of work tonight too. 👍 Great documentary!!
Great documentary. Much of that history is closely intertwined with the history of the folks in the Southwest part of the state as well. I really liked your doing older history and then highlighting a current artist who represents our state well.
Thanks.
What a wonderful tribute to the great
Cowboy traditions
I grew up in North Central New Mexico 30 miles due west of Taos and miss the history and all that goes with New Mexico. I live in Oklahoma now and would love to move back.
Thank you for this! John and Katherine are my aunt and uncle and I've always had the deepest respect for what they do.
Great Video. Epecially the end with the old man reading the Bible, and the rancher and his cathedral with his Creature God.
Wonderful video. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
This is the meaning of America… May the true “American Cowboy” meaning always exist.
Thank you for your time,
Fred C.
When I was born (1949), my parents worked for the Redd family in southeastern Utah. I have been told it was the 4th largest ranch in the United States at the time. We moved to Salt Lake City when I was still in my infancy, but our association with the brothers, Joe and Charlie Redd, persisted throughout my early childhood, and I remember them well. I often wonder how different my own life might have been had I grown up in La Sal on the ranch. I still have a longing to be there, but I don’t think the opportunity will ever arise. Thanks for this video. It made me think of home.
I too am from the "Redd Family" only in Raton, N.M. My younger brother (Keith) was always known by "Joe" and my name is "Charles" always gone by Chuck, small world! There was
a Redd that lived in Folsom around the time of the flood.
Amazing video! I grew up in a rural farming town in southeastern California, just in the border with Mexico and Arizona. I’ve lived in the city but felt emptiness in my heart. I came back to my roots and I would never think of living outside the countryside again ❤️
I was born and raised in SW New Mexico(Deming & Hachita).... and I love History..... I was homesick (now live in TX) and was searching youtube for NM stuff... really enjoyed this... loved the artwork at the end!!! THANKS
My dad was raised in Deming and graduated from DHS in 1932. My granddad worked for Southern Pacific in Afton and then Columbus but kept a home in Deming.
I am looking for a Rupert bit.
As a proud son of Colfax County, I thoroughly enjoyed this nostalgic and affectionate look at the people and land of my birth. Through the years when I would mention my "home" some would ask "is that part of the United States"? I remember being asked once; "what currency do they use there"?
Memories of the majestic skies over Northeastern New Mexico and the hills, plains and mesas will remain a part of me forever. Nice job Travis, thanks for your efforts.

Great documentary ... Saw a few folks I know ... Some I've heard of .
Travis, this is a very beautifully shot and edited piece, congratulations on doing such a fantastic job. Thanks for sharing this. Dino actually did a drawing of me when I was about 16. Great people.
What a great family tribute video Dino. Your talent for pencil drawings tell the story of the ranching in the Hi-Lo country of New Mexico. Would really like to meet you when we come thru your country on our way to Raton and Colorado each year.
Wish I'd moved from Dallas, TX to a ranch when I was young. These are salt of the earth folks.
Excellent documentary.
This is awesome . A glimpse of what life was like for my family way back when
Thank you Miss Sally and Mr. George, you were/are heroes! Beautiful documentary 🌻
I loved this video! Dino does beautiful artwork!👍🤠🇺🇸🙏✝️
I have nothing but respect and admiration for the ranchers and farmers, great people.
Great video!
Floods are just going to get worse, because for every house, commercial building, apartment complex, road, and parking lot that’s built, they represent 100% runoff of rainwater. Cutting down forests in plowing fields also contributes to a lot of runoff. It’s worse today, than ever.
So awesome to see these stories and people that I have heard so much about.
My dad was from the Raton/ Folsom area. so many of these names are familiar
stories. thank you for making This !
I'm highly impressed with the story and I love every bit of it.
Thank you for this documentary. I really love New Mexico. I have lived in Arizona but it is New Mexico that I belong in.
Very interesting - thanks for sharing!
I recognize some of the people in this excellent documentary my father, Vic Taylor knew all of them pretty much before he passed. This brought back many great memories of my time spent in Northeast New Mexico, thanks for that.
Not what I expected, I expected more stories like Jack Black's, but still very interesting nonetheless! I've lived in Eastern NM my entire life more center than north though! Have become quite interested in the history of NM! Always loved the freedom ppl had back in this time, u could just get on a horse and ride to wherever u wanted to go! Feel like I was born n the wrong era, I don't relate much to technology of today, I feel back then was where I was supposed to b!
Cowboys don't feel sorry for themselves
@@jondoe8022 I'm neither a cowboy nor feeling sorry for myself so not sure where u r going with that!
Wow my family was born on the rancho in Canjilon New Mexico ,I was born in Utah .thank for the video.
Ive been to Canjilon a lot as a kid . Camping , fishing trips! Beautiful area! I hope the fires this yr didnt make it there!
This is gold
Great job!!!
The art is INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL!!! Thanku for this video ♡
It's a beautiful state and place. I lived in New Mexico for six years and traveled this area often. Magnificent desolation is my phrase for many of these parts.
Beautiful story's about the old west.
that man's art work is scary good....... dammmmmmmn
Wonderful video
My grandparents were dairy farmers
Very hatd work
Peaceful place
I worked ranch and livestock exchange barns and let me tell you the are no 15 min breaks constantly always working. For little pay but the food is good and plenty of beer.

New mexico is heaven on earth. I was stationed there four years and hope to return some day. Gods country. Very good docu
Excellent presentation. I learned a lot.
El coyote NM I use to live this kind of life so beautiful
My grandfather was one of seven to draw up the state constitution. He was a contractor to the army for feed to their horses. Many of these men are liars cheaters and killers. It's the story of my state but I'm still focused on the past
That artist is amazingly good
Damn Dino! Mighty fine drawings.
Great work!
What a wonderful artist from my home state. I am honored to be ur next county over in Colfax! I’m from Raton, 1954....
My grandfather owned a 17 section ranch in southwest New Mexico ( Cliff ) He died when I was 13 years old. My father and uncle didn't want to run it, so they sold it a few years later. It was the saddest day of my life. My grandfathers name was
Joseph Frances Bennett his wife, my grandmother, was Leona Fisher Bennett. They were the most hard working people I've ever known. They dedicated their lives to ranching. It is and always will be an honorable way of life. Does any one out there remember them? He died in 1969. He was born in Mexico to U S citizen parents. They owned the Bennett farms in Canutillo,NM before He bought the ranch in Cliff.
I knew the Bennets. . They had several children , two boys if I remember right. One was a steel worker. Had a house in Silver city . And flew an old style stick plane that had a cloth covering instead of metal. He had several children may 2 or three. I went to school with them. The brother that was in Cliff I didn't know so well. I think the Joe you speak of was their dad.
I do remember that Joe was respected by the community though.
Some of the folks that were neighbors were cousins of mine, the McCauleys and Norisses. Only Curly and those much younger are left now. If you remember him. Many ranches have sold now.
340 north San Gorgonio ave Banning CA 92220
Wow great story.
That lifestyle has always been my dream as long as I can remember which is over 50 yrs
Really great video!
So good.
good job - your video quality seems to be pretty good. Dino your work is amazing
Someone who's taking responsibility
My Dad step mom and two brothers live in mosquer New Mexico we have ranch down in Masquer canyon l go out and visit them twice a year. If me and my wife didn't own land in GEORGIA I would definitely be living in New Mexico i love it out there
I've wanted to go down into mosquero canyon for a long time to look for snakes and just check out the scenery but whoever owns that land now (perhaps ur relatives) have it as private property now
cool. as i come down raton pass and look left i see the folsom country. 1st time we came s from Cheyenne where is grew up after leaving mora at 5yrs old, my dad said that is where "aunt annie lived" did not know know much about the Cassidy's or the Doherty's. learned a lot since! still look left as i come down the pass the beauty u guys know
Incredible Artist.
My Grama grew up in Cimarrón in the early 1900s. She was a cowgirl & worked the CS Ranch.
Awesome
That is some very beautiful Artistry work. It's almost like it's I'm looking at a photograph. This man does such excellent work I've never seen anything like it. He definitely does do the West in the Cowboys great Justice. Excellent work. I can't see anyone who does not want to have any one of his drawings. I would be honored to have one. Although I don't think I would be able to afford one.
Well done...
great video
I've played music with Dino. Tell him hi!
I like documentary's like this, but could you keep the music turned down a wee bit pls, it's almost as loud as the people are takling
Hay my family in from new Mexico too, I’m a Kennedy too, my people are from the Holland Kennedy clan are you part of our clan , ??? We all had a farm / ranch out side of Portales New Mexico East, in a little one church town called arch New Mexico, your story is net ,and my family’s story is kinda like this one , just different names, you have a good Day and be blessed, thanks BigAl California.
Really really enjoyed this and would love to have one of those drawings.
As an outsider looking in at NM - I'll always see it as Johnny Reb. You're looking at real people.
Amen~!
Oklahoma here. Cattle and Oil but still 3 times the cattle to people here in rural south. Miss the days, when I was a child, and see the cowboys working cattle. I never got to do that on horse back but I rode and mended a ton of fences with my brother.
I think technology came too fast and we lost so much of what we were. We still hang on to those values here in Southern Oklahoma and know they were learned by sweat and family.
My grandfather a New Mexico North Eastern German rancher wore the same hat.

Hey Dino, the Lujan’s say hi! Good job!
Wauw ! .
heard great cowboy stories from old cowboy named "WISHBONE" miss him..11-07-2020
Life style only a few people know anything about. Not many like this are left. Certainly not in our cities. As they say: the code of the west.
Thanks Mr Travis for putting this together! I am Bill Hughes from Clayton. From the Mclaughlin pedigree on my Moms side! We still have the original ranch north ofClayton and a few mis east of Folsom! Spent lots of time there growing up. My Grandma Mac was the best! Kind and strong and a cowgirl hall of fame member! Inducted in the late 70’s! A proud moment for our family! Was nice to see Bess Isaac in the video! She was always a good friend! I thought the whole thing was well put together contrary to a few trolls in the comments! So what! we can see them coming for miles right?
The Dust Bowel by Ken Burns is worth watching also.
If you do a Kickstarter, I'll chip in.
