Want to START a business? Go here: skool.com/games
If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
    How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
    Never quit,
    Alex
    FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

If you're not thinking about how to have a competitive advantage, best believe your competitor is.
I knew I was gonna win in my niche when I realized that my top competitor had 3 small children and had to hire people as soon as she hit 10 hours of work per week. I knew if a person like that could hit $250,000 revenue per year, so could I. And sure enough, 3 years later I overtook her because I could outwork her and had the competitive advantage.
So my advice - look for gaps and holes in other businesses. If you can find someone who isn't 100% committed to their business and they are showing signs of success even with that kind of commitment, you can ALWAYS outwork them.

I still watch Alex from time to time to see what he has to say, but yea I realized for my business to be successful it just comes down to getting good at a thing, then getting good at teaching that thing profitably. The "shortcut," is just doing it right just like he says.

Alex, first thank you for everything you do. I have watched nearly every video, read your book a few times, etc.
Second, you often cover skills and limiting beliefs. You do a great job explaining a lot of limiting beliefs.
I would love to see you dive a bit deeper into a skill stacking topic. I understand each business will be a little bit different. But a video explaining what the pyramid looks like in relation to skills even if its your own journey.
What, in your opinion, makes a really wide base for a person's skills to build the pyramid on, then what is each level above those at the next level.
    Thanks again, love ya brother.

@Tahmar Thomas yes I have seen them. I'm referencing more to the actual hard skills to be learned. Not the concept of skill stacking.

    • @AlexanderMoen
      @AlexanderMoen 2 года назад +12

He's mentioned that you don't bother learning about something until that problem comes up in your business. Otherwise, you're just fake busy. Don't read about hiring or training someone until that comes up,for example. When you're going hard in business and you hit a wall or come across an idea that's immediately applicable, it becomes kind of obvious that developing that particular skill will make sense. So, it's not that you plan out your skill stack, it's that you master the core ones you need to get started, then depending on your situation you expand your skill sets as the needs arise

Everything you say here is self-evidently true (and thank you for saying it!)- except one thing! That is that "you will enjoy what you're good at." It's a small point and not the most important part by far, but just to give a voice to those who find themselves not fitting there.... My family is full of people who are very good at what they do, and yet they don't love it. Some even hate it but they're in too deep for too many decades to want to risk plunging their lives into chaos to do something different, just because they dislike/hate their work. They are also all entrepreneurs who own their own (adequately) successful businesses. I don't know anyone in my family who enjoys their work, haha, and they chose it! It can happen. They do enjoy what their work affords them when they're not working, so that's not nothing and must be enough for them. I love what I do (I am a sahm); I've been my own boss for over 20 years, my clients seem to love my offers, but the pay is abysmal. 😂

I recently graduated and got my MBA plus a passion for software and also left my full-time job to work in the home improvement sector to solve a specific problem. The market size surpassed $762.9 billion in 2020 so not a bad field with a CAGR of over 4.3% till 2027.

I've been learning stamps for three years and went through the pain of trying to learn as an absolute beginner. DADA! That is the problem I am solving. Also, can't find information about stamps unless you want to troll through hundreds and hundreds of posts on stampboards. DADA laying it out to be able to find more easily. Going to take at least another year to get it up and running but I can only learn and write so fast.

I don’t think YC looks for people that have prior experience in the space they’re pursuing tho
    - Brian Chesky had no prior experience in hotels before building AirBnb
    - Patrick Collison had no experience in the payments space before building Stripe
    - Drew Houston had no experience in building a cloud storage business prior to Dropbox

Great Content... Instead of building a marketing agency like every 17 year old with no depth of understanding right now, I probably will do the boring work and write this comment to comeback to it a few years later when I have the industry exp.
    See y'all in 3-5 years ;)
