I relate to so much of this. I left a well paying corporate job after feeling like I didn’t want to live anymore. I took all of my savings and in the space of 4 months build a med spa with goals of creating an accessible franchise system. I’m not doing this for money. I’m not even doing it for freedom. I’m doing it for who I will need to become to pull this off. I felt suicidal because I knew I had so much more to offer, and that if I didn’t propel myself to a position that would command me to become my fullest self that none of this is even worth it. We’re all going to die anyways. Let’s live while we’re here.
YESS I'm so happy for you. I'm currently in my last year of college doing a degree (premed, not sure if I still wanna do med). And honestly, I am waiting to graduate, work and start my venture into business. Being 4 years into my entrepreneurial journey and hearing Alex talk about the difficulties of it actually motivates me more. I didn’t start a side hustle, I quit my job having no clue what I would do to make money and 2 years later during lockdown I was drinking champagne in Monaco. It’s far from easy and I was in a similar position to Alex mentally. I could not see myself doing anything else BUT entrepreneurship. There’s times it sucks, in fact a lot of times. But what you get back? Self belief and betting in yourself. There’s no feeling like it. When you know you could lose it all and restart again, you carry a different type of confidence around.
This hit hard. I was in a top medical school, had a nice apartment considering my situation, massive group of friends who were also doing well in life, and always had great women available to me. I was miserable. I ended up being diagnosed with severe depression. Ended up flunking out 3rd year because I didn't have it in me to put in the work required for medical school. It just wasn't for me and it was eating me up inside. I would look at older doctors and would be miserable thinking "is that really how I'm going to be in 20 years?" Anyway, I lost everything. I mean everything. It took years to beat my depression and now I'm on the path of actually chasing what I always wanted in life and not going after the safe option like I was. I feel a fire in me I've never felt before and you're helping me out tremendously. Honestly can't thank you enough.
@@MrBUGS713 that’s the goal. I plan on going into software and electronics, I have a few ideas I cannot not purse. Since I’ve spent my entire education pursuing medicine I don’t have the skill set required to pursue my current goals so I am studying my ass off everyday to attain them. I literally wake up at 4am and study programming for a minimum of 10hrs a day. I will do the same for electronics and math. Once I have learned enough I will get a programming job because I need the money, plus the experience. Once I have the required skill set, I will start on my business plans as a side hustle and grow it from there. There is no way I would have the time to gain the knowledge needed to pursue my dreams if I was still in medicine so I’m glad I’m out of that field.

I can appreciate your courage, I quit a low paying job that I was "comfortable" in and saw myself getting lazy and complacent. I chased after a higher paying job only to find out the hard way I didn't fit in with "the good 'ol boys" and their alcoholic escapades. Gave it my due dilligence but was let go for literally no reason, ( at will employment state ). I started a small glass repair business and headlight restoration service and made some money but advertising is challenging and have started to stagnate. I won't give up though, my vision is to scale it up to a full fledged franchise and garner a significant portion of the market I serve.

Wow. I had no idea how similar our story is. 22 I had 45k in savings, had a house, and would drive to work thinking about cutting the corner into the other lane. It took me a year to quit.ins you, I played a little more risky with it, and invested all and of my savings and then some into scaling a business that had created zero results, and that I honestly didn’t believe in. I’m in the middle of my Rocky Montage 2 year period where I make the best program in the world. I’m 25 now, and starting a biz has been rocky so far, mainly cause I was trying to be someone I’m not.
I'm a few months into my skincare business, but we all have reasons why we do what we do. I have an auto immune disease that makes my skin not heal, I found a gap in the Market and went all in on this. You won't make anything upfront unless you're trying to make a quick buck, just set up that long term success and work your way up the only ways you can think of till you gain the knowledge to break through.
Only thing I'd say is I went to school for economics and I started my own business during that time, it really helped with understanding how to price my product, having a unique product for demand inelasticity, but I never used anything like econometrics which is arguably supposed to be the most useful part of an econ degree
I wish my parents taught me the mentality of working for someone to learn instead of chasing various educational paths. This advice is pure gold for for many of us, but the effectiveness is reduced because of our age - Teach your kids so they can stand on our shoulders.
Getting paid to learn. Loved that. I see it that exact way. I'm 32 and I'm senior software engineer, but lack a lot of the other skills needed for business. So I'm trying to learn as much as I can from all the other roles, in my current job. Best place to learn. Love your videos! You are really real!

You told the story of Russell spelling out that you’re working a level 2 biz with level 10 skills. Those words, level 10 skills, woke up something in me. Skills. Duh! Can you break that down for us, and give us a clear vision, the what and how to learn/create level 10 skills?
My 2 cents. You don't have to make more money as an entrepreneur than your old occupation paid in order to be a success regardless if it is more stressful or not, and I would rather fail than never tried. Love it Alex keep it up. Also, an education is never wasted, academic or not, a person who sits still, still thinks based on their education.

Im very fortunate to have time to watch this video. Im 25 and have never fit into the gaps with other people. They live nonchalant and with little problems. I never had the mindset that they just make more. I understood very early that those people never risked anything so they never take losses. But they also never make monumental gains. I lost a lot and due to my own bad choices i was forced back to 0 many times. This time was different, somehow i managed to get it right.
Arnold was my idol too, and the wisdom and information being shared on this channel is invaluable regardless of that tidbit, but the fact that you idolized Arnold makes me so happy and oddly actually makes me love this channel even more.

The first 7 minutes of watching this video, I know immediately that you're not a fake guru like a lot of guys out there. The more I watch, I'm getting more sure you're legit. It's true that the stats are against you when you're starting a business. I'm 2 years in and the difficulty is not decreasing at all. Starting your own business can be the scariest gamble of your life. Living cheap is just one of many sacrifices.
I started a business that grew to quick, I scaled back then joined partners in a transportation biz. Made no money and literally got paid 500 bucks the first 3 months. My first business was easy because it wasn't marketed by me it was a side hustle (turo). The second business was split by 3 owners including me. I'm watching this in one of my trucks 30 degrees outside in north Texas... determined. I know I'll get this company net positive and gross a good income. I love entrepreneurship, I've learned so much in the transportation and logistics. I'm learning sales on my own right now and cutting cost on insurance, equipment and fuel. The trucks I acquired my self through an arbitrage agreement I learned and used to get turo cars in my first business. Now adding a branch to the company in logistics, giving me another skill and low over hang compared to adding trucks. Sales is key in any business, learn how to sell! You can literally add products, affiliates, courses, services with sales. This dude is legit he has studied alot on business I can tell. I'm married to this... not for the cash, for the challenge of building my own empire. You can do it decide and promise not to give up and get to a place in your mind and body you must seek and conquer this entrepreneur game.

Same thing. Just quit corporate about 2 months ago after 2 years of planning. Gave up a promotion that'd be about $350k/year to do this and I'm so glad I did. But that's only possible because I had a plan. I wrote down where I wanted to be in 3 years. Then I reverse engineered a plan to get there. You can do it. Start by envisioning what success means to you and then figure out how much money you need to make that a reality. Then start cutting things out of your life that aren't helping you get there and go chase it with reckless abandon.
I have always burned the boats so I had no retreat plan. If I didn’t I would not have gotten to where I am today. Not saying it’s anywhere special but it’s better than the alternative. By the way, thank you for sharing your videos!
Hey Alex, I just came across your channel and I'm a growing fan. I like how honest and unfiltered you deliver your content, and how insightful and useful the information is. I've only watched a handful of your vids so far, but will for sure consume more. I've been at that place with not deliberately looking to end things, but being ok if they did. Life vs death is what caused me to actually change. Sometimes it takes the worst, most unfair painful experiences and you have to choose life or death. You gotta fight through poverty, sickness, people that have privileges and a society that isn’t in your favour( my neurodivergent folks) Sounds dramatic but it’s exactly how it is. Choosing life has completely changed everything for me. No obstructions will cause me to quit anymore. It’s given me such a determination.
ya, I have been acquiring Ecom and marketing skills on the side for 2 years. Trying out stuff on my own while I still have a job. Consciously incompetent until I'm not.
I used to do government contracting in the same general location, but a little further south and understand why you quit. I quit in 4 weeks, rather than two years though (very stressful and not being paid enough, being on call for no reason, mean boss, etc). I am definitely not as successful as you though. I was, however, able to automate my work down to around 2 hours per month, and I have more than enough, so that is good.
hello i'm a student, where i live school is free so their is no problem with that my problem is that i like my studies but i don't know if it's going the thing that i want to do, i started learning copywriting and i like it a lot, i live in thirdwrold country so it's quiet hard to live as i've seen, most of really successfull people are leaving everything just for the buisness without knowing anything, now i don't really want to do that because i just have 2.5 years left to finish my degree and i don't want to quit now so i'll try to be inchallah the buisness owner that built his wealth while still having a traditional process the no choice mindset is really powerfull, you can make a humain beat a grizelly if he has no other choice but that, it's super valuable in the humain nature and i'll try to build this mindset, make it seem like you have no other choice

The getting paid to learn is really wise. In 2011 I started my own busines and failed after 3yrs. I had some small successes, but it just wasn't going anywhere. Then I got a job offer from a client and I said, F it since I was burned out and took a job doing what I had failed to do on my own. It taught me so much about myself and how to properly do the business. What my weaknesses and strengths were. But if you get caught up to much in the entrepreneur success motivation cycle, you think that it's a loser mentality to get a job. After 5yrs I saved up, had learned a ton, made contacts and went into business for myself a 2nd time and this time was way more successful. If I had to do it over, I would have spared myself the 3 yrs of being a moron and looked for companies doing what I wanted to do, and gone in with a learning attitude. See what works, what doesn't how stuff is done. LEARN. Get my own ideas, try some ideas. Then when I was ready and had saved some cash, split.
Something that always gives me some extra courage in this journey.. you can always go back to employment. You can always make money. Failure isn't final. So try it and keep trying until you are forced to go back to employment

This is a bit different for me because I was already making 6 figures in the U.K. working with multinationals by the age of 23. However, my dissatisfaction was that as a Christian I was not happy that I was making so much money while so many people around the world were living in poverty. So I quit my job and started a charitable enterprise. My motivations are 100% selfless.
Great advice. I was forced into it as well after open heart surgery. Glad I chose myself and this journey. On another note after 5 years getting to where Alex got is still fast. But it all depends on what your consider success. The journey and realizing what your capable of is the success. Giving yourself the purpose every day and to continue to reinvest in yourself. You got to do this for yourself never, ever, ever do this for status. You will find yourself very unhappy. Love the transparency and the way Alex tells a story and it's perfectly painted to match almost anyone's attributes, character and life. That to me is his success.

When your unemployed like i am there is not much risk involved. 49k sounds okay for me and they don't have my business plan. I knew i wanted my own business sense i was a kid so not doing it would make me regred not doing it and not believe in my self. It may fail but i am not going down without a fight. I have also set it up so the upside is big and the risk is low. Weather it will sell is another story.

I'm a few months into my skincare business, but we all have reasons why we do what we do. I have an auto immune disease that makes my skin not heal, I found a gap in the Market and went all in on this. You won't make anything upfront unless you're trying to make a quick buck, just set up that long term success and work your way up the only ways you can think of till you gain the knowledge to break through.
Only thing I'd say is I went to school for economics and I started my own business during that time, it really helped with understanding how to price my product, having a unique product for demand inelasticity, but I never used anything like econometrics which is arguably supposed to be the most useful part of an econ degree

I wish my parents taught me the mentality of working for someone to learn instead of chasing various educational paths.
This advice is pure gold for for many of us, but the effectiveness is reduced because of our age - Teach your kids so they can stand on our shoulders.
Getting paid to learn. Loved that. I see it that exact way. I'm 32 and I'm senior software engineer, but lack a lot of the other skills needed for business. So I'm trying to learn as much as I can from all the other roles, in my current job. Best place to learn.

Feeling this. Nothing like that pain barrier to go through, to keep pushing, when your financial expectations come crashing down in the first 3 months. Amazing with the same hours in a day what can be achieved by different people, not just money related. Everything is ultimately down to the individual and choices.

Alex I’m really getting a lot out of your vids. Thanks. At 64 I’ve squandered a majority of my life. But waking up now I see it’s not too late to achieve some great things. You told the story of Russell spelling out that you’re working a level 2 biz with level 10 skills. Those words, level 10 skills, woke up something in me. Skills. Duh! Can you break that down for us, and give us a clear vision, the what and how to learn/create level 10 skills?

My 2 cents. You don't have to make more money as an entrepreneur than your old occupation paid in order to be a success regardless if it is more stressful or not, and I would rather fail than never tried. Love it Alex keep it up. Also, an education is never wasted, academic or not, a person who sits still, still thinks based on their education.

This makes me feel good about not being an entrepreneur. We see this alot on your tube and you start to believe it, then this video brings it into reality. Instead I have double down on my coding skills...been studying after work everyday
Im very fortunate to have time to watch this video. Im 25 and have never fit into the gaps with other people. They live nonchalant and with little problems. I never had the mindset that they just make more. I understood very early that those people never risked anything so they never take losses. But they also never make monumental gains. I lost a lot and due to my own bad choices i was forced back to 0 many times. This time was different, somehow i managed to get it right.

I have often thought about that from a slightly different perspective because I'm actually have ancestors that were slaves and thought nothing is as bad as what they had to endure at least in this moment and my job is to ensure that I keep it that way that's my mission. You have to acquire sooo many skills to run a business. Fact brotha. Preach it. Soooo true. No one really talks about that part.
The first 7 minutes of watching this video, I know immediately that you're not a fake guru like a lot of guys out there. The more I watch, I'm getting more sure you're legit. It's true that the stats are against you when you're starting a business. I'm 2 years in and the difficulty is not decreasing at all. Starting your own business can be the scariest gamble of your life. Living cheap is just one of many sacrifices.

I started a business that grew to quick, I scaled back then joined partners in a transportation biz. Made no money and literally got paid 500 bucks the first 3 months. My first business was easy because it wasn't marketed by me it was a side hustle (turo). The second business was split by 3 owners including me. I'm watching this in one of my trucks 30 degrees outside in north Texas... determined. I know I'll get this company net positive and gross a good income. I love entrepreneurship, I've learned so much in the transportation and logistics. I'm learning sales on my own right now and cutting cost on insurance, equipment and fuel. The trucks I acquired my self through an arbitrage agreement I learned and used to get turo cars in my first business. Now adding a branch to the company in logistics, giving me another skill and low over hang compared to adding trucks. Sales is key in any business, learn how to sell! You can literally add products, affiliates, courses, services with sales. This dude is legit he has studied alot on business I can tell. I'm married to this... not for the cash, for the challenge of building my own empire. You can do it decide and promise not to give up and get to a place in your mind and body you must seek and conquer this entrepreneur game.
I never make comment, but.....this time I couldn't help myself. Reason is, I've seen alot of guru's talk through self-help, finance etc for over 10years now, and what strikes me more than anything about you specifically Alex, it's how you come across as a very genuine and authentic bloke (Aussie slang for 'guy'). You can clearly see you want to help people, It comes across clearly.! SO thankyou for being so generous, your content is going to help a lot of people, I just wish I saw this 10years ago. This was me for so many years, had a good job, a nice house, and was «sucessful» in others eyes. But inside I was empty and I just did things to please others and the society standards. But not what I wanted. Im still not there but realizing it and actually doing things to change my state also has helped me feel more. Again super great content,

Same thing. Just quit corporate about 2 months ago after 2 years of planning. Gave up a promotion that'd be about $350k/year to do this and I'm so glad I did. But that's only possible because I had a plan. I wrote down where I wanted to be in 3 years. Then I reverse engineered a plan to get there. You can do it. Start by envisioning what success means to you and then figure out how much money you need to make that a reality. Then start cutting things out of your life that aren't helping you get there and go chase it with reckless abandon.
I have always burned the boats so I had no retreat plan. If I didn’t I would not have gotten to where I am today. Not saying it’s anywhere special but it’s better than the alternative.

Hey Alex, I just came across your channel and I'm a growing fan. I like how honest and unfiltered you deliver your content, and how insightful and useful the information is. I've only watched a handful of your vids so far, but will for sure consume more.
I've been at that place with not deliberately looking to end things, but being ok if they did. It's a dark place to be. I didn't get out until I changed how I viewed the world, what I said to my self and taking responsibility for all of it.
I'm in the first stages of building something, but I'm sure our paths will cross one day. I'm looking forward to it. Keep up the great work.

Life vs death is what caused me to actually change. Sometimes it takes the worst, most unfair painful experiences and you have to choose life or death. You gotta fight through poverty, sickness, people that have privileges and a society that isn’t in your favour( my neurodivergent folks) Sounds dramatic but it’s exactly how it is. Choosing life has completely changed everything for me. No obstructions will cause me to quit anymore. It’s given me such a determination.

I used to do government contracting in the same general location, but a little further south and understand why you quit. I quit in 4 weeks, rather than two years though (very stressful and not being paid enough, being on call for no reason, mean boss, etc). I am definitely not as successful as you though. I was, however, able to automate my work down to around 2 hours per month, and I have more than enough, so that is good.

my problem is that i like my studies but i don't know if it's going the thing that i want to do, i started learning copywriting and i like it a lot, i live in thirdwrold country so it's quiet hard to live
as i've seen, most of really successfull people are leaving everything just for the buisness without knowing anything, now i don't really want to do that because i just have 2.5 years left to finish my degree and i don't want to quit now so i'll try to be inchallah the buisness owner that built his wealth while still having a traditional process
the no choice mindset is really powerfull, you can make a humain beat a grizelly if he has no other choice but that, it's super valuable in the humain nature and i'll try to build this mindset, make it seem like you have no other choice
Saddest thing is people opetaing in their bubbles and after buying a condo still dont see the true meaning of life which is helping others. Thats when you become rich.
The getting paid to learn is really wise. In 2011 I started my own busines and failed after 3yrs. I had some small successes, but it just wasn't going anywhere. Then I got a job offer from a client and I said, F it since I was burned out and took a job doing what I had failed to do on my own. It taught me so much about myself and how to properly do the business. What my weaknesses and strengths were. But if you get caught up to much in the entrepreneur success motivation cycle, you think that it's a loser mentality to get a job. After 5yrs I saved up, had learned a ton, made contacts and went into business for myself a 2nd time and this time was way more successful.
If I had to do it over, I would have spared myself the 3 yrs of being a moron and looked for companies doing what I wanted to do, and gone in with a learning attitude. See what works, what doesn't how stuff is done. LEARN. Get my own ideas, try some ideas. Then when I was ready and had saved some cash, split.
Something that always gives me some extra courage in this journey.. you can always go back to employment. You can always make money. Failure isn't final. So try it and keep trying until you are forced to go back to employment
You and Leilan are one of my favorite people right now. I needed to hear this today. Being an entrepreneur is excruciating some days. But it's rewarding at the same time because I love doing it.

To the viewers: (Keep in mind that it can also take a decade or longer. It took 16 years of being in business before I figured out how to make my first $1m in sales of an actual product.) If I had mentors that knew what I know now because of the experience, I would have made many, many millions more! That's just how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

This is a bit different for me because I was already making 6 figures in the U.K. working with multinationals by the age of 23.
However, my dissatisfaction was that as a Christian I was not happy that I was making so much money while so many people around the world were living in poverty.
So I quit my job and started a charitable enterprise.
My motivations are 100% selfless.

Great advice. I was forced into it as well after open heart surgery. Glad I chose myself and this journey.
On another note after 5 years getting to where Alex got is still fast. But it all depends on what your consider success. The journey and realizing what your capable of is the success. Giving yourself the purpose every day and to continue to reinvest in yourself.
You got to do this for yourself never, ever, ever do this for status. You will find yourself very unhappy.

When your unemployed like i am there is not much risk involved. 49k sounds okay for me and they don't have my business plan. I knew i wanted my own business sense i was a kid so not doing it would make me regred not doing it and not believe in my self. It may fail but i am not going down without a fight. I have also set it up so the upside is big and the risk is low. Weather it will sell is another story.
"Stay broke" - one of my biggest challenges and opportunities.
