Does the Order of Fossils Match Evolutionary Theory? - Dr. Kurt Wise

  • This video segment is from "Beyond Is Genesis History? Vol 1 : Rocks & Fossils," the follow-up to our feature-length film where we explore the impact of the global Flood on the Earth. Check it out on our website: bit.ly/BIGH-1.
Continuing on their trek through the Pocket Wilderness of Tennessee, Del Tackett and paleontologist Kurt Wise discuss the order in which major groups of fossil organisms first appear in the fossil record. While most do not first appear in the order expected by evolutionary theory, the order of fossil plants appear to do so. Dr. Wise argues that not only can the global Flood of Noah's time also explain the order of fossil plants, but that it can explain it better.
Dr. Wise earned his BA in geology from the University of Chicago, and his MA and PhD degrees in paleontology from Harvard University. He founded and directed the Center for Origins Research at Bryan College and taught biology there for 17 years. He then led the Center for Theology and Science at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for 3 years, before founding and directing the Center for Creation Research and teaching biology at Truett McConnell University for the last 7 years. His fieldwork has included research in early Flood rocks in the Death Valley region, late Flood rocks in Wyoming, and post-Flood caves in Tennessee.

One minor problem with the flood hypothesis. My grandfather was a deep coal miner, his pit had 41 separate coal seams separated by different rock types including shale, sand, clay and gravel all rock types that are well known for not floating above wood. unless there were 41 different floods separated by enough time to build up enough vegetation mass to produce each coal seam (several over 2 meters thick) the hypothesis fails.

We have seen how underwater seismic activity can produce multiple tsunami receding waves. We saw a double tsunami in 2011 in Japan, where all kinds of things (cars, building parts) got deposited very rapidly, layer after layer. As the flood waters deposited the debris over the world, the different substrates settled out just as what happens when you put sand, clay, gravel and other marerial in a jar and spin (centrifuge) it. It will all separate and deposit as individual layers as we see in the Grand Canyon.

      @davebrown6552 5 месяцев назад

@@marktapley7571 The BIG problem with that explanation is that when you do that experiment everything gets sorted by density. The rocks in the grand canyon and other areas have multiple layers of low density material (eg wood and shale) under layers of much more dense rocks (eg sand and limestone). This cannot and never does happen in the experiment if the materials are being mixed at the same time.
for example the strata in the North East of England has 21 distinct coal layers under and in between sand shale and other rock layers.

    • @marktapley7571

@@davebrown6552 There are multiply layers where debris was caught in different strata as when long tree trunks are extended across “millions of years” of strata. Naturally not everything is going to separate like it was centrifuged but it was clearly not laid down over millions of years. Not only are the normal wear patterns and erosion not present that would be evident in millennial time spans but neither are the usual animal diggings and tree roots. There are many reasons that the earth is young and cannot be millions of years old. The Dover Cliffs of England have receded ap. 3 miles since Roman times. If this rate of erosion had gone on for millions of years there would be no English Island.

Floating vegetative masses are not really a discovery, but in this video, it is hypothesized that the ancient floating vegetative masses were much larger than assumed and that they were INSTRUMENTAL with certain fossil findings. Those fossil findings do not explain evolution, they provide proof of certain species that existed in certain habitats. In other words, fish did not 'evolve' to crawl on land....they already existed.
The way you use "missing link" is incorrect. The "missing link" phrase is used by evolutionary 'experts' who can't prove connections so they gloss over the enormous false conclusions between man and ape. Similar creatures are not same creatures....and this is, and has been, the glaring problem with the theory of evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a proven set of facts. Even Darwin, in his writings, admitted his theory/theories were very flawed.

But seeds are very resilient and can germinate even after a forest fire.
In fact, some plants actually depend on forest fires to propagate...
I don't personally accept the idea that the deluge was *global* and the Bible does not actually teach that.
But God did not require Noah to pack every kind of seed to germinate, nor marine life... Just a set of clean and unclean animals, seven pairs of clean and two pairs of unclean.
And on disembarking, Noah made an altar and offered a sacrifice to the Lord.

      @@alantasman8273 Cheers.
I don't subscribe to the concept of a global deluge, and I'll be happy to explain why, purely from scripture.
But the ecosystem did undergo massive change, evidenced by the fact that
. lifespans drastically fell post deluge.
. God granted animal flesh as food where previously plants had been sustenance. God explicitly says this to Noah when they disembark.
. God uses a rainbow 🌈 as a sign of his covenant that He would never again engage in a judgement via a flood.
That's not to say that rainbows had never appeared before that, as some would maintain.
There is scripture that points to a very different ecosystem in the creation account
"For the Lord God had not sent rain upon the Earth, but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the land".
And there are those that argue that a "water vapour canopy" existed and its collapse was contributory to the deluge. It doesn't stack up though. People tend to read more into scripture than the language can bear. I abandoned the "water vapour canopy" idea, decades ago.
It was largely based on the "mist went up" verse and the "waters above the firmament" separated from the "waters below the firmament" in Genesis 1.
People tend to "fill in the gaps" with their imaginations. That's not such a bad thing, but it's best to be wary of leaping to conclusions. You can be looking for a story and join the dots... add two and two and arrive at five... So I'm much more circumspect about that.
But, repopulating the land is not a problem... It's no challenge to the scriptural account.

That is often interpreted to mean that the nations were scattered but that is not what the literal words mean. That passage literally means that the land was separated."
I believe a single continent was divided shortly after the flood waters peaked (crested.) At that time the moutains rose, the valleys sank, and the flood water poured off the earth, which scoured the surface of the earth:
_"[The Lord] covered [the earth] with [water] as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. At your rebuke [the waters] fled; at the sound of your thunder [the waters] took to flight. The mountains rose, the [sea floors] sank down to the place that you appointed for them. You set a boundary [that the waters] may not pass, so that [the waters] might not again cover the earth." -- Ps 104:6-9 ESV_
The eroded sediment formed the continental shelf. Soon thereafter, there was an Ice Age (the only Ice Age.)
Later, in the days of Peleg, the ice melted, the water dried from off the earth, and the sea levels rose, closing the land bridges and sealing off the routes to the continents of Australia and the Americas, along with many islands.
The nations were scattered earlier in the days of Babel, and were led to their new habitats by angels:
_"Remember the days of old, consider the years for past ages: ask thy father, and he shall relate to thee, thine elders, and they shall tell thee. When the Most High divided the nations, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the nations according to the number of the angels of God." -- Deu 32:7-8 LXX_

Nothing about what you wrote about Peleg's time has anything to do with the land being divided, it is pure eisegesis instead of exegesis."
Your interpretation is pure eisegesis. Does it really say that the earth was split apart, or does it simply say the earth was *divided,* as in this passage:
_"[God] hath _*_divided_*_ a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man; To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?" -- Job __38:25__-27 KJV_
The most reasonable time for the single continent to split apart would have been when the flood waters peaked, which would provide a hydrodynamic "cushion" for the massive upheavals that were required to raise the mountains and drop the sea floors. At that time there was no life on the land, so there were no consequences, except to those living in the sea; and they seemed to come out okay.
Have you ever watched this video by Dr. Wise?
"In-depth Explanation of What Caused Noah's Flood"
The actual title is "The Geophysics of the Flood." He explains his theory of how the continents were formed and how the mountains were raised using Dr. John Baumgardner's TERRA modeling software. Pay particular attention at the 01:17:47 mark.
We do know that if the sea level was raised a couple of hundred feet, there would be a land bridge from Asia to the Americas, and one almost to Australia. We can surmise that the few areas where the water would be too deep to walk was the result of subsequent plate tectonics or a submarine avalanche. One good reason to speculate that there was once a land bridge from SE Asia to Australia is presence of a species of echidna (a monotreme) in Australia, New Guinea, and Indonesia. The world atlas also lists the same habitat for the deadly Eastern Brown Snake, but I question if it is found in Indonesia.

You make sense of things until you mention a trinity which is not spoken by the followers of Jesus in the new testament which always talks about 2 separate beings and introduces them in praise to our father and our lord Jesus Christ but not acknowledging the holy spirit as God in the letters. Jesus is also praying to another being as his father making them separate from one another and the father raising the son from the dead. Jesus said to Mary Magdalen that he was going back to the father not going back and inside the father but going at his right hand side making him separate from the father. The new testament always calls the holy spirit power and knowledge not a God but the power of God. In revelations the host of heaven are bowing and Worshiping 2 separate beings who are side by side at the time and one giving seals to another to open. These are 2 beings who agree as one yet are apart described in the word. Bible clearly talks about trinity pagan worship of babylon and Egypt of male, female and son worship was hated by God. The trinity does not come from the old and new testament beleavers but from pagan worship to the Roman catholic religion from Ceasars to popes just like the changing of God's 7th day of rest that he said in the 4th commandment to remember and keep holy which the catholic church decided not to remember and keep holy but to change to Sunday sun worship that the Romans worshiped which we know is the first day of the week not the 7th. Nowhere in the old and new testament do Isrealites or the jews worshiped Sunday but in all writings in the Bible clearly says they were teaching and reading on the sabbath Saturday.

And all of these biomes that reflect different places on Earth just happened to stack up in exactly the same stratigraphic order (sorry for the science, you creationists) everywhere on the planet. He must have gotten his PHD from the same trailer that Kent Hovind did

    • @SageSebastian7
      @SageSebastian7 2 года назад

That's the point he's making man. All of the biomes could have only stacked up in the same way across the planet if the same event was occurring at the same time on every corner of the globe. Meaning, if he's right about certain rocks being only formable underwater and at a very rapid pace, then that means there was a catestrophic flood on a massive global scale. I don't have the geological knowledge to fully dissect all the ways that these specific rocks can be formed, but this guy has a pretty well laid out and researched argument pointing towards young earth. He has another video where he talks for 90 minutes gong further in depth about the stratigraphic order as well as another video on his team's model of quickly moving tectonic plates going from pangea to modern day configurations. I personally think his arguments are fascinating and really point to some issues that should be researched.

The word "Dinosaur" didn't appear until the 1800s, but the Bible talks about "Dragons" throughout the texts.
